Correction: "Firecracker" Report Came from Captain and Passengers
— Ace

I asked in my last post on this which official -- and of course I was implying someone taking orders from the White House -- put out the word that this was a case of "firecrackers."

I wasn't just wrong but I could have seen that question wasn't well-founded if I'd read what I needed to read about the matter. Several papers quote passengers or the captain offering this description.

Sorry about that, got very careless, made an error. Tossed out a badly-founded implication without doing the minimum amount of homework necessary to do so.

1 Well, it must've been a big firecracker if the Captain heard it all the way up in the flight station.

OT(?):  Just bought some beer, booze, and boolits.  And dropped off my laundry.  Didn't buy and firecrackers and pillowcases though.  Still a productive day.

I wonder if the administration thinks people getting blown out of the sky by "a case of firecrackers" somehow makes it ok?

3 Wasn't someone (Hotair or RedState?) reporting that MSNBC had retracted the story because of the "its just firecrackers" floating around?  It may not have been the WH, but some of its sympathizers certainly wanted the idea that it wasn't really terrorism out there.

4 Don't worry.  You still have more journalistic integrity than AP, NYTimes, WaPo, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS and ABC combined.

Well, that may not be too comforting.

I am sure that the Obama administration will see this as a crisis that they won't waste.

Is this post meant to counteract the insinuation in the second Dickless Detonator Dude thread that the false firecracker story, used to downplay the incident, was first made by a (Muslim?) BBC hack working the Beeb's Washington beat?

BTW, the earliest Canadian (private) CTV News link I put up about the event also made the firecrackers-only claim. (I think I posted it around 10 p.m.)

17 >>>Was the delay in informing Obama aspect of the story accurate? Seems to be. Politico reported it too, and even the WaPo's helpful edit still has the timeframe available, though they've made it as difficult as possible for you to figure out the length of the delay. The WaPo's new adjusted number seems -- well, they're confusing me. The plane landed at 11:53 EST and they say Obama was informed between 9 and 9:30 Hawaiian time, which is five hours behind EST, so... seems (if my math is right) they are noting a 2+ to 2.5 + hour delay. Politico sticks with three.

25 You didn't toss a careless question. I asked the same thing. In fact, I believe I even posted it on this blog comments last night. I simply refuse to believe anything I see in the media today regarding terrorism because the media being Leftys, have been caught too many times covering for terrorists. Example: Hasan mass murdering troops and of course the ever-constant spinning of 911.

I think you miss the point of the correction.

Blogs build their credibility one post at a time. It is, in fact, a waste of the readers time for a blogger to continually post shit he has to retract and constantly correct.

There are many fine conservative blogs on the internet that don't have anywhere near the ratio of incorrect, retracted or corrected posts. I've commented from time to time on this, but doesn't seem to do much good.

Ace, sloppy as ever, isn't even asking the correct questions.

The correct  question isn't "who shouted firecracker."

The correct question is: Why did the US State Department give a known terrorist a visa to enter our country.

You cannot board a flight in Amsterdam bound for Detroit without first receiving permission from the US Department of State.

So, not only does ACE waste time with stupid factually incorrect questions, he's not even asking the correct questions.

So I'd really like to know who the hell started putting out the word to the media that this was just a matter of some "firecrackers."
I didn't know Ace was referencing this sentence of his. I thought he was worried about the MSM's unfounded claims that it was only firecrackers and not a "serious" explosive device being used to downplay the incident out of pro-Islamic p.c. that in his comments section blamed a specific BBC hack. Viz.

It was this guy, from the BBC. Imtiaz Tyab.

Jeez. I basically missed this entire story (I'm at the in-laws for the holidays, zero time allotted for news watching/net use). Finally getting caught up. I think I have the sequence of events understood pretty well.

Thrilled that this time the good guys prevailed, but we are living on borrowed time. Our government simply isn't serious about protecting us from Islamist madmen, that much is clear. Whatever list this dung-stain was on, it didn't do one bit of good.

Obama should think long and hard about this incident. If this terrorist had taken a page from that Salahi duo, it could be Obama himself in the hospital (or worse) rather than the passenger(s?) that subdued the worm.   I know Obama loathes history, but he really should learn from it. We're weakening at the stress points just when we should be strengthening them.

53 What pisses me off is this guy has known terrorist connections and he's not on a no-fly list. My real name is the same as a Fox News anchor, and because some liberal idiot, after 9/11, turned in many Fox news employees names as potential terrorist threats, I am on said no-fly lists. My bags get opened every time and I get hard glances initially ( And I don't look the part). One inspector told me that unless I had political pull that this will be my flying experience indefinitely. Well, at least Abdul got on the plane with no hassles.

Posted by: Usful Ijit at December 26, 2009 11:54 AM (28286)

54 It wasn't reports that it sounded like a firecracker that were bothersome but that some were insinuating that it WAS firecrackers, or something equally as innocuous. Richard Reid's dud shoe bomb didn't seem like much, either.

One of our big problems, of course, is that we don't treat attempts like this the way we should. They only failed because of some extenuating circumstances, and we got lucky in the process. They should be treated as if they had successfully carried out their mission, and our reaction should also be commensurate with the reaction to a successful such attack.

Individualistic laws of civilized societies do not extend willy-nilly into the aether. They serve for policing individualistic societies which cherish individual liberty, not for ordering the savage, ruthless world in a way that it neither understands nor cares about.

No attacks v. USA in the 7 years of Bush post 9/11 - what did Bush miss exactly re counterterrorism?

Under Obama, we now have two successful domestic attacks and one near miss yesterday on Christmas - so how is that better than Bush, exactly?

Obama's weakness and apology tours are encouraging terror attacks on the United States.  Those are facts, not claims.

Regardless, we are where we are now - perhaps a dozen separate Obama public speeches of apology and butt kissing to "the Muslim world", and now at least three US Domestic terror attacks since Obama's arrival:

1. Murder of soldier in Little Rock by Islamic extremist

2. Murder of 13 soldiers and unborn child by Islamic extremist at FT Hood, and now

3. Attempted bombing of a plane in Michigan

Obviously, the kiss Muslim butt strategy is not working.

97 Actually, the firecracker story is being pushed, just not by anyone sane. If you want to don a double bag set of full body condoms, head over to Democratic Underground. They are positing that it is a case of abuse of an innocent Nigerian first time visitor to our country who was merely following the ancient and hallowed Nigerian ritual of shooting off fireworks at Christmas. The things that the enemy will decide to believe in order to preserve "The Narrative". Subotai Bahadur

If this means we have to now drop trow and have our underwear tested at the TSA checkpoint, air travel is going to become decidedly less attractive.

103 The first news cycle usually includes an FBI spokesman downplaying terrorism as a motive.

The first thing reporters do is call the FBI for a statement.

The MSM was aware that it was much more serious than a few firecrackers - and they knew it on the leading edge of the first cycle.

Now that's some serious focus post terror attack.

Thank goodness he's in there instead of McCain.

He should be back in DC in the situation room.  That's what the MSM would say if Bush was in Texas out cutting brush, right?

and this Nigerian is a rich spoiled kid, son of a rich banker - which EXPLODES the leftist myth of the poor, economically deprived suicide bomber.

KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) — President Barack Obama is playing golf with friends from Hawaii and Chicago on the second full day of his Hawaii vacation.

The president's motorcade traveled a few minutes from his vacation home to the golf course at the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe Bay on Saturday morning.

The Kaneohe Klipper golf course overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and is well-known among island golfers as a scenic course.

Obama is playing with Greg Orme, Mike Ramos, and Bobby Titcomb — all from Hawaii — and Eric Whitaker, a friend from Chicago.

Earlier in the day, Obama and his wife worked out at the Marine Corps base gym.

The president's family arrived in Hawaii on Christmas Eve.

maybe it was a mercy killing attempt.

Maybe Wee Wee's healthcare destruction plan contracted  the Death Panels out to the man-made-distasterists, and this guy convened the first one.

114 Everyone was celebrating yesterday but there is always the one guy who knows what is going on at all times.   This is the guy who announced to everyone about the incident then everywhere once someone says "hey guys, there's been an incident" then the tv went on.  They originally reported fireworks and that means there must have been a really loud sound.  So does that mean the intent failed and made the sound of a firecracker.

Also, how come there were immediate pictures on twitter.

How come jet blue is taking off the screen today, an hour before landing? (per CNN)

Obama's fraudulent butt is on TV 10 times a week pushing his socialist programs so much that even leftists are getting tired of seeing his mug drone on about "bending the cost curve"

Now, after a near miss terrorist attack on Christmas, Obama refuses to go on TV to reassure the nation that they can continue to travel safely and that everythign's cool? That's what the fucking President is SUPPOSED TO DO, as opposed to the 10X a week domestic policy speeches bullshit he does.

big, big sigh.

126 Why can't we just use registered sex offenders as TSA gropers? They have more experience and certainly would enjoy their work. And I'll bet those fuckers could tell explosives from a testicle. And Richard Quest at CNNi would be all over a storyline like that. Andy Cooper, too.

All is well, Wee Wee spoke to his henchmen in D.C. for an entire FIFTEEN MINUTES this morning!  It is completely safe to fly, Barack Hussein Obama has decreed it to be so.

Washington spoke with Obama at 6:20 a.m. by secure telephone conference call at the first family's rented vacation home. The call lasted less than 15 minutes.
