— Gabriel Malor John Hinderaker at PowerLine have been doing a great job digging through the emails leaked from the the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit.
The "tricks" to obscure climate data weren't just being used ten years ago. Here John notes a September 28, 2009, email on a researcher's efforts to massage the data to get an arbitrarily chosen "blip" in the data.
At the same link, John points out the emails reveal the less-than-scientific interests of the researchers:
What they reveal, more than anything, is a bunker mentality. These pro-global warming scientists see themselves as under siege, and they view AGW skeptics as bitter enemies. They are often mean-spirited; the web site American Thinker is referred to as "American Stinker;" at one point an emailer exults in the death of a global warming skeptic; another one suggests that the Ph.D. of a prominent skeptic should be revoked because of an error he made decades ago in his dissertation; another says that he is tempted to "beat the crap out of" the same scientist. The emails show beyond any reasonable doubt that these individuals are engaged in politics, not science.
In this post John tracks how the researchers responded to critique by circling the wagons and then slandering the critic.
And here he lists the discussion which led to the deletion of emails in the face of a FOI request.
Each post is highly recommended reading.

The entire Washington Post opinion section today was about "Climate Change" and desperation (except for George Will who says the U.S. has plenty of its own oil). It even scolds Obama for not working "quickly" enough. They may sense that their time is running out.
What they reveal, more than anything, is a bunker mentality. These pro-global warming scientists Marxists see themselves as under siege, and they view AGW skeptics as bitter enemies. They are often mean-spirited; the web site American Thinker is referred to as "American Stinker;" at one point an emailer exults in the death of a global warming skeptic; another one suggests that the Ph.D. of a prominent skeptic should be revoked because of an error he made decades ago in his dissertation; another says that he is tempted to "beat the crap out of" the same scientist capitalist . The emails show beyond any reasonable doubt that these individuals are engaged in politics, not science.
They are just old fashioned Marxists. Using a different tool.

Therefore, the average drone won't even hear about it. What they'll hear instead is more doomsday GW propaganda, from the MSM and the schools.
We are winning the debate on the facts and the merits. But they are winning the larger, more important, debate through endless propaganda and indoctrination.

I don't think Chuckles wants to go all-in Kos and D.U. Once Chucks admits he is further to the left than Kos, he dooms himself to immediate blog obscurity. His only relevance now is as a tool for the left to demonstrate how 'sane' conservatives are vicimized by the 'right-wing fringe'.

I'm pessimistic because I TALK to people out in the real world who aren't right-wingers like you and me. IOW, a majority of the public.
And you can show these people all the facts and figures and graphs in the world, but it doesn't fucking matter. They would rather believe the LIE they've been told 500 times than believe the TRUTH that only you are telling them.
That's because of basic human psychology. It's easier for the human psyche to dismiss the "subjective" opinion of one person - even if he is a person you know and trust - than it is for the human psyche to reject the "objective" "facts" of 100 "credible" MSM outlets.
You must understand: The election of 0bama isn't some "canary in a coal mine" that warns us about a vanguard of leftists who are about to try to take over the country.
No, the election of 0bama was the next-to-last stage in the complete annihilation of our country and our Constitution and our freedoms and liberties.
IOW, they haven't picked a fight just now. The fight is basically all over, but for the crying (and the re-education camps).
When Glenn Beck says we have literally months to save our country, that may sound like hyperbole to you. It sounds like reality to me.

It seems the very scientific jazz musician is somewhat less open to questioning global warming alarmism than lefty German paper Der Spiegel.
Stagnating TemperaturesClimatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out
By Gerald Traufetter
Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years. Some attribute the trend to a lack of sunspots, while others explain it through ocean currents.
At least the weather in Copenhagen is likely to be cooperating. The Danish Meteorological Institute predicts that temperatures in December, when the city will host the United Nations Climate Change Conference, will be one degree above the long-term average.
Otherwise, however, not much is happening with global warming at the moment. The Earth's average temperatures have stopped climbing since the beginning of the millennium, and it even looks as though global warming could come to a standstill this year.
Ironically, climate change appears to have stalled in the run-up to the upcoming world summit in the Danish capital, where thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, scientists, business leaders and environmental activists plan to negotiate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations.

Apologists for this AGW cabal talk about the giant and relentless threat of AGW skeptics, how the skeptics have the upper hand; that this is why this group were forced to communicate amongst themselves in this way.
In fact, expressing AGW skepticism is generally not allowed in the MSM, and powerful politicians insist that the science is settled, and there is an attempt to sideline any skeptics as nutcases. Skeptical scientists usually keep their mouths shut to avoid trouble - they've learned to do this. Look at the word they use: "deniers." Not "skeptics," "deniers;" evil ones who threaten the future of the human race.
Raging, rampant skeptics at the gates. What a god damned inversion of reality. What drives the fear of the AGW industry is not that somebody is going to tell lies about them, it's that the hidden weakness of their work might become an issue. They've been living in a house of cards and they know it.
The bottom line is that whether there is a real AGW effect, or isn't, you'll never get a reliable answer from these assholes.
"The politics are settled."

I read a science/tech website Arstechnica.com, they normally keep up pretty well. This hack and posting of emails hasn't gotten a peep, which compares to huge writeups when a company gets a mean press release issued against it. The only talk on that website is a user started thread in the forums that spent the entire first page being shouted down as a nonissue before a mod moved it from news to science talk and burried.
Reading these emails has done a lot to educate me to how science is done today, I was still under the highschool science class impression of how things are repeatable, had no idea they were so one off and "take our word for it".

>>78 Islamic extremism? Never heard of it...Posted by: Charles Gibson..
>>90...HAS JUMPED THE SHARK, HORRIFICALLY..Posted by: Diversity Kills
I walked down the street recently in Barcelona, and suddenly discovered a terrible truth - Europe died in Auschwitz..
Europe killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz they burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. They destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world and whose religion is the root of Christianity.
The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people who were burned.
And under the pretense of tolerance, and because they wanted to prove to themselves that they were cured of the disease of racism, they opened the gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought them stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty, due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.
They have blown up trains and turned beautiful cities into the third
world, drowning in filth and crime. Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.
And thus, in their misery, they have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.
They have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs.
What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe.
A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves. Keep fighting these Globalists, AlWhore, etc. Our freedom is threatened like never before.

I think she has to take that position to be consistent with the outrage over Palin's emails. We can't be taking the position that criminal action is okay because it exposes worse criminal action, though we still don't know who the 'hackers' were. I've seen suggestions that it was insiders or possibly the Russians (who don't want to see their ability to sell oil diminished).

First:
All-out civil war at LGF? Mandy and Sharmuta left to fend for themselves?
Interestingly, Sharmuta signed up at LGF 2 days after I did., and, while being much better known, seems to be lasting only a few extra (and painful) months.
Sharm, If you¡¯re reading this, being banned for posting contrary opinions that could only be down-dinged, not rebutted, is far less painful than what you¡¯re going through. The picture of the polar bear stuck on the ice (-berg? -pedestal? -pole?) comes to mind. 10 minutes and a beer later, and I was ok.
¡¡
Second:
Michelle Malkin is calling for the heads of the hackers and demanding that they be prosecuted to "the fullest extent of the law".
I checked, and it¡¯s one sentence.
"First things first: The alleged hackers need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
I suspect she needs to say this, simply for protection. Her next sentence is:
"That said: The crimes revealed in the e-mails promise to be the global warming scandal of the century ¡ª and have massive bearing on the climate change legislation being considered by our lawmakers here at home."
I think that, in this case, what the hackers did, while wrong, exposed a titanic fraud that puts the lives of hundreds of millions of people and indeed much of Western Civilization at risk, as do all confidence swindles, and should be protected by one or more whistle-blower laws.
We all knew that AGW was a pile of dog logs, now we have prof that the dog knew too.

NEW YORK (AP) - A lawyer for one of five men facing trial for the Sept. 11 attacks says the men plan to plead not guilty and use the trial to express their political views.
Attorney Scott Fenstermaker says his client Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali and the others will not deny their role in the 2001 attacks but will tell the jury "why they did it."
He says the men will explain "their assessment of American foreign policy."
Fenstermaker met with Ali last week at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay. He says the men, including professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have discussed the trial among themselves.

1) A lie is a lie is a lie. It's pretty clear when these guys are discussing how to manipulate numbers, delete emails, hide funds, etc.
2) If they ever tell you you're not a scientist and thus shouldn't be throwing barbs, ask them if THEY are scientists. I bet they're not either, in which case repeat point 1 above, tell them there's oh, twenty five examples of point 1 at the minimum, and they can just go STFU.

The emails, data, and code need a lot more time for analysis. Even the internet can't fully digest that much stuff and connect all the dots in a few days. I think it will take at least two months, possibly longer, before the full story is known.
All we see now is a quick random sampling, not a whiteboarded out evolution of the process and where the players fit into it..
There's a huge amount of cross referencing of stuff external to this data dump that needs to be done. Its all very detailed and painstaking forensic work.
Ace was right when he called it the "Rosetta Stone".

Neither of you, nor Michelle, knows who hacked (or leaked) the files. An internal leaker might be protected under UK whistleblower laws. Who knows, for example, whether the person also sent the files to a UK agency to rat out the CRU people? Or what if his defense is, "I didn't send it to the authorities because I knew from the files that certain agencies would protect the CRU people, and not me." If the hacker is in Russia, are there any laws to be prosecuted "to the fullest extent of"?
Until all the facts come out, you're just riffing. Most likely, MM was just engaged in pro-forma boilerplate.
Or would you rather she verbally fist-bumped the hackers, and clearly contradict her stance vis a vis Palin?

I find it interesting that most degreed conservatives are in the fields of Business, Engineering, and Medicine. (These careers require them to perform with measurable metrics and proven success.
Liberals on the other hand, have degrees in Liberal Arts, Literature, Journalism, Education, Politics, Law, and now Environmental "science". (None of these have ANY measurable metric with which to base success or failure, yet they are allowed to thrive).
Tell me which group is really capable of even having a discussion based on Facts and Truth. (I'll give you a hint - its not hippy anti-american, anti-conservative, anti-family, anti-responsibility, anti-religion whiners who have free time every day to protest).
