Democrats becoming radioactive to...democrats.
— Purple Avenger

I wish I had a Hitler in the bunker mashup ready to go with this.

...Forty percent of self-identified Democratic voters say they are "not likely" or "definitely" won't vote in next year's Congressional elections, according to a little-noticed poll released over the Thanksgiving weekend...

...self-identified Republicans were three times more likely to say they were going to vote next year. The results suggest perilous fights for Democrats in the midterm elections...

Sounds like the Hope/Change Express has morphed into the Crazy Train Suicide Express.

7 Winston Churchill's favorite joke was the one with the punchline, "Let's walk down and have them all."

The Democrats fell for the Rahm Emanuel thing about not letting a good crisis go to waste.  They rushed to screw as many taxpayers as much as they could, when all they had to do was to take their time and they could have screwed us all seven ways from Sunday.

8 There's a fairly cool graphic of this at Kos, where they're all taking themselves to task over the Enthusiasm Gap and wondering what's become of Today's Youth.

The bare naked graphic is linked below (skip it if you want to give zero traffic to the kos domain) :

10 "self-identified Republicans were three times more likely to say they were going to vote next year."

56% of Democrats say they -will- vote next year, and Republicans are three times as likely to say the same?  So, 168% of Republicans say they will vote next year?

The MSM, once again displaying their AWESOME math skillz.

14 Wait til the freebies and such start flying to the ghettos around election time. I guarantee that will happen in '12, then four more years of Barry. I wish only taxpaying citizens without a felony criminal record could vote. Permanent Republican majority, if that were the case.

15 Posted by: Qwinn at December 01, 2009 02:22 AM (SxA2Q)

Yes, I believe the correct statistic is that only one-third as many Republicans have declared they won't vote in 2010 as have Democrats.

Posted by: stuiec at November 30, 2009 10:33 PM (Ate22)

16 Among self-identified Republican voters, 81% are either "definitely" voting next year or "probably" voting, while 14% are "not likely" to vote or will "definitely" not vote.

Among self-identified Independent voters, 65% are either "definitely" voting next year or "probably" voting, while 23% are "not likely" to vote or will "definitely" not vote.

And among self-identified Democratic voters, 56% are either "definitely" voting next year or "probably" voting, while 40% are "not likely" to vote or will "definitely" not vote.

So technically roughly three times as many Democrats aren't going to vote as Republicans aren't going to vote.  So by the new math double negative transverse law of multiplication, that's the same as three times as many Republicans planning to vote.  Or something.

17 Poll numbers are to Obamacare as Any Weather Changes are to Global Warming

Any weather condition is proof of global warming/cooling or whatever term they need to fit the weather forecast for the day.

Now any poll shows Obamacare must pass.  If the poll is good, the public wants it, if the poll stays the same, the public is starting to warm up to it, if it is bad its because the public doesn't think it will pass.

I think there is an 8th level of hell Dante missed for media spin-meisters.

Relying on the "youth" again, eh? The only reason the youngins came out in 2008 was that Dems offered them a Snickers bar if they voted for Obama. I took the Snickers, told them to piss off and voted Palin/Old Dude. Don't trust young people. Especially if you've run out of Snickers.

22 Heh, Daily Kos is worried about lack of enthusiasm. All polls are bogus, but this one is delightful! Heh, 40% of the brainwashed faithful staying home next year, eh? Let's see ACORN and SEIU and others raise enough zombies to balance that loss! (Go ahead, try it, guys. Breitbart has a hose o' holy water waiting for you.) Lessee, Republicans are three times more likely to vote, which makes it about 60% turnout by usual standards. Maybe we ought to go for the holy water after all....
Drizzle: If Obaka dumps stimulus $$ in the cities again, he is just re-buying the votes he already had. It will be the lack of votes elsewhere that will ensure Teh Won has no coattails. The way I see it, having the Dems spend $$ re-wooing their base instead of extending their reach to to others again as per '08 is just fine.
TexMex: Darn it, no one offered me a Snickers bar bribe last year, cheap-ass Ohio pols.... It would have had the same lack of effect, but it would have been yummy.

33 @20, do you really think the blacks would change their vote because of unemployment? I'm not being snippy, but look at the black cities with black mayors. Still in shambles, still corrupt to the core, still broken families, rampant poverty, record unemployment, drug wars, turf wars, gang wars, rape, arson, etc. and they blame everyone but themselves.
If some community activist group a la ACORN gets their act together between now and the summer, the Democrats are going to have the majority again. But I will go on the record to doubt this will happen because unlike last time, you aren't seeing the push to vote in ONE black President. It would have to be broken down into dozens of black, female, Jewish, white and Puerto Rican candidates across the country.

That play has been run before. In 2006, the House Republicans were convinced "earmarks" were going to save them. They spread enough pork around to make Oscar Meyer envious. In the end, it only backfired.

Mallamutt is right about gerrymandering;  when it comes to creating safe seats, elected Democrats and elected Republicans are all members of the Incumbent Party.

2010 is more important than the 2012 beauty pageant.  We desperately need to take the House away from Pelosi and the "Progressives".  We should support Republicans challenging Blue Dog Democrats, where they can win, and Independent Conservatives where they can't.  These are roughly the middle 1/3rd of the Democrats in the House.  The districts are rural and suburban districts, mostly MidWest through NorthEast, that are more conservative then their representatives but not willing to vote for a Republican.

We have a list.

Voted my first, in 68 years, straight 'R' ticket in Nov and that will continue, and I will vote in every local, state and federal election.

52. Unemployment effects less than 10% of blacks since the rest have never and will never work. The welfare gravy train is too fluid and attractive. They only poll them to drive the stats in whatever direction the fringe (former and dying MSM) media desires.

Posted by: NunyaBizness at December 01, 2009 08:28 AM (NNXtX)

52 "safe seats" are only safe to the tune of 10-20% margin or so.  If you get a large disparity in turnout as this poll suggests, even a gerrymandered "safe seat" can become vulnerable.

Remember - the Gerrymandering process was designed to retain seats during normal times.  For the hundreds of ordinary congressmen out there, these are not normal times.

Of course the royalty, like Pelosi, will have truly safe seats, but even there, that comes at the expense of weakening the hold on other districts in the area.
