— Ace Peggy Noonan's column is worth reading in full.
Support it or not, you cannot look at ObamaCare and call it anything but a huge, historic mess. It is also utterly unique in the annals of American lawmaking and government administration. Its biggest proponent in Congress, the Democratic speaker of the House, literally said—blithely, mindlessly, but in a way forthcomingly—that we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it. It is a cliché to note this. But really, Nancy Pelosi's statement was a historic admission that she was fighting hard for something she herself didn't understand, but she had every confidence regulators and bureaucratic interpreters would tell her in time what she'd done. This is how we make laws now.
Her comments alarmed congressional Republicans but inspired Democrats, who for the next three years would carry on like blithering idiots making believe they'd read the bill and understood its implications. They were later taken aback by complaints from their constituents.
The White House, on the other hand, seems to have understood what the bill would do, and lied in a way so specific it showed they knew exactly what to spin and how. "If you like your health-care plan, you can keep your health-care plan, period." "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor, period." That of course was the president, misrepresenting the facts of his signature legislative effort. That was historic, too. If you liked your doctor, your plan, your network, your coverage, your deductible you could not keep it. Your existing policy had to pass muster with the administration, which would fight to the death to ensure that 60-year-old women have pediatric dental coverage.
The leaders of our government have not felt, throughout the process, that they had any responsibility to be honest and forthcoming about the major aspects of the program, from its exact nature to its exact cost. We are not being told the cost of anything—all those ads, all the consultants and computer work, even the cost of the essential program itself.
Ben Domenech is skeptical that Obamacare's managing to sign up 7 million people (for some definitions of "sign up") when it was originally projected to sign up (as in "really sign up") double that is somehow a major success.
Have you heard? Obamacare survived! It got to that magic number it was looking for to make everything right!Or rather, it got to half the number the Congressional Budget Office predicted it would get to after the Supreme Court ruling.
Either way, itÂ’s totally okay now and is absolutely going to survive and be the law of the land forever and ever despite anything those nasty opponents of the law tell you.
...
This is why talk of the 7 million figure as salvation from supporters of the law is completely bonkers: all you did was meet your lowered policy expectations.
By failing so catastrophically early, their recent failure is, by comparison, a relative success.
So here is what Obama and his supporters now call a "success:"

Obama asked for a primetime network shot to announce his Big Victory, and the red diaper babies of the networks actually refused him.
I'm not sure if this is just about the bottom line, or if the networks (and especially their news divisions) are feeling a bit used for repeatedly bending over for Obama whenever he sexts them a booty call, but otherwise treating them like the Town Pumps they are.
And maybe they've noticed that Obama's people always claim to only know the numbers they're interested in promoting, while claiming to have no idea about the ones that might not be so attractive.

I don't remember Noonan voting for Obama?
First time. She fell for the hopey change. She's been brilliant on a lot of stuff ever since, but the Horde is not forgiving of apostasy.
Try reading this piece with your thumb over her name and reading it as just words that appeared in a forest, unconnected to any actual human. The words are good words.

"He has within him the possibility to change the direction and tone of American foreign policy, which need changing; his rise will serve as a practical rebuke to the past five years, which need rebuking; his victory would provide a fresh start in a nation in which a fresh start would come as a national relief.
He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts.
He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make."
Oh, not that Peggy Noonan column.....

I really have no time or patience for such people any longer. What is due is a hugely embarrassed public recantation and self-denouncement. Not further comment or analysis.
Leave those to people who got it right originally, and who had correctly figured Obama for a dangerous choice. Such as, for example, this blog's proprietor.

The bulletins from the Imperial Japanese General Staff in 1944 were more grounded in reality than the statements from the Obama Administration on the success of ObamaCare.
I'm think the way to attack it is to go after it piece-meal. A little bit here, do something that is popular to "fix" a problem, but the fix will actually hasten ObamaCare's end. It will be much easier to do this with the election coming up and it will make opposition to these "fixes" seem irrational and expose the "mend it, don't end it" mantra as a lie.

Never mind that it's going to bust budgets at the state and national level. (IIRC, it's 6k/year average spent on a Medicaid patient. Let's cut that in half to assume they're below average, unlikely, but still. Right there, $9bil/year that has to come from somewhere and we're not done yet.)
The Department of Health and Human Services has a proposed FY2015 budget of just a hair over $1 trillion. Roughly 85% of that will be Medicare and Medicaid, so about $850 billion.

I had my perfect insurance canceled by the fascists at covered california, then I had to buy it all over again from the all new "Blue Shield" quote unquote. Blue shield actually doesn't exist anymore in Obamas fascist America.
Ive got an ongoing problem that requires bi monthly injections.. I cannot miss them. I never had a problem before. - But now, with fascistcare, they have been sending my DR and myself so much paperwork about it that they still haven't approved one injection since I sent in my first payment mid december. I will lose my job if this continues.. and if i'm having problems then I know a whole lotta others are having the same.
This is absolute tyranny and I am embarrassed for my country. Its been taken over by a usurper without a fight. The LIVs, guilt-ridden public educated whites, and hipsters voted for this asshole because it was a down payment for guilt relief... for 400 years of oppression and thought crimes.. or something. HURRAY!! AMERICA!!!!

A few of the less timid economists out there are starting to suggest it's time to play the old "That's All Folks!" cartoon music. That the expansion of the current global economic cycle is as strong now as it is ever going to get and that it's all downhill from this point for jobs and growth.
Awwwww, darn it. Just when things were getting really good, huh?

It's like the people I work with preening about meeting their performance indicator goals every year. Most of the time they DON'T reach their goals, but they come within the minimum threshold, meaning they didn't reach their goal 100%, but they got within 90%.
MWR (or Beth, if you will): Well we didn't hit our goal here. so we should think about how to fix that.
COWORKER: What do you mean we didn't hit our goal. Sure we did!
MWR: No, we reached 92% of our goal. That's different than reaching our goal.
COWORKER: The 90% threshold IS our goal. As long as we make that we're fine.
MWR: No, the 90% threshold is the minimum we can make without incurring a penalty. We should be trying to reach the ACTUAL goal, not settling for barely scraping by.
COWORKER: *looks confused* But we MET our goal.
MWR: *beats head against desk*

Speaking of selling Buicks, or not selling them, anyone else notice that auto dealer lot inventories are getting absolutely out of control again?
Government Motors in particular are just cranking out product like crazy, but the product is not moving off the lots.
I was out and about recently in a part of the SF Bay Area I haven't been to at street level in a while. There's a big old multiplex theater, with the typical enormous parking lot, next to an auto dealership.
Well, the theater is now closed, and the huge parking apron has now apparently been taken over by the car dealership for overflow inventory, and they have ten metric fucktons of said inventory just sitting there.
And this is in a comparatively economically vibrant region of the country!
So yeah, when I hear economists musing about how this business cycle has topped out, the plain proofs of everyday life are backing it up as well.

Exactly. Like I've said previously, I will support anybody saying things that I believe to be true and valuable. If Juan McLame got up on the senate floor and started calling Hairy Reed a g-ddamned liar and a hateful little puke, I would absolutely cheer him on. But that doesn't mean I have to listen to everything he says, or agree with him, and CERTAINLY not respect him.
I don't believe Peggy Noonan has ever said, "I was wrong," about her Obamagasms, and I'm almost certain she'll vote for Hillary if it comes to that. Until she redeems herself for those transgressions she is nothing but a useful voice for eloquently stating certain things, not an oracle to whom conservatives or Republicans should turn for guidance.

Did you know she _hunts animals_? She does! With a _gun_? A big one too! And then after she kills those animals, she... _cooks them and feeds them to her children_?
How impossibly declasse! One cannot think about it without having to move to one's fainting couch, clutching one's pearls. There to think calming comforting thoughts about impeccable trouser creases, instead.
Meanwhile, in the real world, the awful ignorant backward bigoted illiterate snowbilly bitch turns out to have been absolutely correct about pretty much everything. Including the Obamacare fiasco which Noonan is decrying today.

I've got an insurance card! yay!
If I actually need treatment though? "well, if you could just fill out these forms and wait 60 business days for a decision on your cancer treatment"
So much better than my 'bad apple' insurance I had before. Doctors could actually do things and they would get paid. We don't want that. No sir. Now it all exists to keep the bureaucracy going. Makes me so ill and sad I don't believe its actually happening

See, I don't know if she actually pulled the lever for him. I vaguely recall that right before election day she wrote a column with a half-hearted, last minute endorsement of McCain.
But it hardly matters. She spent the entire campaign season, from the GOP convention to the moment of that final column (if I haven't imagined it) doing two things: (1) snickering about Sarah Palin on MSNBC; and (2) slobbering over Obama as if she were Christopher Buckley herself.

Fact of the day: more American voters than not AGREE WITH HER ON THIS. Still. More than five years after Bush departed the White House.
Remember the old caution the hotshot pilots shared with one another from the movie _The Right Stuff_: "Don't screw the pooch."
One-time jet pilot Bush screwed the pooch. An epochal financial wipeout happened on his watch. Making the Bush brand enormously toxic in the public mind., and also badly damaging the brand of the party under whose banner he stood.
Now the party establishment braintrust are talking about running yet another Bush. Since the first two Bushes were such amazing successes. And with the sour taste still on the public's palate from the last one of the two. Utter brilliance right there.

This is because Palin is prettier than Noonan, and that made Noonan jealous.
No, I'm dead serious. The jealousy of someone pretty and talented and engaging being picked out of seeming obscurity to run for VP made Noonan's blood BOIL.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there's an interesting little tidbit that popped up about that woman the Capitol Police shot in the back of the head last October for driving too close to the White Hut. Seems there's a connection to the First Grifters.

Peggy Nooner took great delight in honking O'Bama's love stick and denigrating the conservative nominee much to the delight of the Washington/New York cocktail crowd.
She stands no chance of rehabilitating her image with true conservatives, and will be forced to live her life knowing she sucked Obama's cock to the detriment of the republican party and its loyal followers.
Peg should be splayed like a fattened pig and roasted on the spit till well done, and served to her progressive admirers with a slice of crow pie with a dollop of Obama cream.

Not necessarily. 1) SCOAMFcare provided for states to expand eligibility to people who make too much money to qualify previously and 2) The heathcare[sic].gov website was automatically signing up people for Medicaid when they wanted to purchase a (subsidized, yes, but not as much as Medicaid) policy.

I don't even look at her column as an indictment of Obammycare (because it's not, as has been stated) so much as an indictment of the process by which Obammycare was foisted on the masses and continues to be foisted on us every day as if we should be GRATEFUL for it.
I've no doubt Peggy would LOVE socialized medicine and just doesn't like how this particular law is being carried out. But I don't really care about that, and if she ever comes out and says so I'll be first in line to tell her to eat shit (as I've done in the past). But when it comes to talking about the PROCESS and its baseness and unconstitutionality? Yeah, she got it right.

Oh uh O/T but maybe a hordesourcey thing
I know a person who was diagnosed with, guessing, stage 4 cancer but I'm not told what/where, maybe they mean everywhere. My mom who isn't wrapped too tight says the Dr. just offered painkillers and nothing else, but I'm kinda doubting that. Probably referred her out and gave her those for the meawhile, but I digress
They want to take her to the Cancer Ctrs of 'Merica joint thats always advertised everywhere and want to collect moneys and such for that. Which I'm not getting. Couldn't they send her MRs there, if she orders that? And doesn't CCofA accept insurance?
As I'm understanding it, the woman in question lives kinda rural and just got insurance for the first time in forever, went in and voila. Might that be playing a role?

We here are going to cost Peggy Noonan and the WSJ what exactly? Again, I disagree that she isn't influential. She reaches more people than this website does and influences more people, especially people who are not as ideological as the people here. She can put it into words that will get before them, words that can convince those people, the ones that need to be convinced if anything is to be done.
Ace is a good writer, but he does not have that reach.

Except Noonan hasn't really recanted per se.
Late one winter night, we're discussing what road to take to get home. I flatly insist on a particular route. Not long after we turn off at that exit, it becomes clear that the road is in dangerous condition, unlit, no signage, goes through bad areas.
Several hours later we're hopelessly lost, the car is stuck and out of gas, a blizzard has descended, and we're shivering painfully and realizing that we may never be safely found.
I say, observantly, "It's starting to get really cold."
Is my mere description of the shitty conditions into which my decision helped land us, without any apology regarding that decision, considered a "recantation"?

The guy says, " I'm a Republican and I had to enroll into Obamacare and I found it was very easy and my premiums were way lower than before and the I get way more services covered. I have to tell my conservative friends and it makes me sad."
The bartender says, " Wow, really?"
The guy laughs and says , " Of course not I'm just fucking with you"

Hey now, if we tried something like that it might make them sad pandas.
Speaking of which, wait until you see the amnesty package we are going to push through after you guys give us the Senate!

I like her writing style *and* I think she's kind of hot for an older lady.
I still think it's appropriate to jump up and down upon her over and over and over and over and over for her role in this "catastrophe."

Obama is one of the biggest liars this country has ever seen.
Ever.
His entire fucking life is one huge lie, so what is it to go out and lie more?
He seemingly can't help himself. the guy is really a messed up dude.
It is a scary thought that he got elected so goddamn easily.
Soviet shit.

This also has to be the biggest fraud perpetrated in US history.
From top to bottom, a fraud that Madoff or Corzine could only dream of putting over.
Worse than wrestling.
Is it an isolated thing the creator of javascript getting axed over his views?
I tend to think this is one continuum, due to the lawlessness at the top.
It all flows from the garbage the dumbass is putting out, and the hordes of commies he has unleashed on the US.

"Bush fucked us"
He definitely did with his Commie Lite soup of the day.
And the idiots who run the GOP are carrying on his legacy of dumbfucked decisions.
John Boner, but hey, conservative guy, small business guy, fightin for ya, all the time.
Same with Paul Ryan, who read Ayn Rand! He really did.

"Even though McCain was, and continues to be, a worthless POS,"
The entire GOP is worthless.
They can't strategerize any comeback to this gigantic fraud, and just let it ride?
Really? It's that hard, huh?
What kind of people do that, get elected, then totally fuck over the people who elected them?
I'll tell you...
Assholes who secretly want to play the game. They are frauds as much as the jugeheaded moron.
It is damned disappointing.

Yeah, annnnnd? Democrats are not going to vote for a Republican President—EVAH! My Democratic friends, who I consider very intelligent people, have bought into the war on wymens, conservatives hate the zipster cause he's black, and that Republicans want to deny people health care and minorities the right to vote. They hear is everyday on the news and read it in the paper. They wouldn't watch Faux News if their life depended on it.

I wonder if Peggy ever say Soylent Green.
You know, that movie, with Chuck Heston...the distopia with a ruling class that is feeding humans with chopped and processed human crackers?
Really, if you sit down and think in the manner of a sci-fi author, you could lay out a path for that to happen with the current methods of the government.
It wouldn't be as much of a stretch as we may have thought a few years ago, but with the rampant communismism going on, the future comes into better focus.
I think this whole country is totally fucked.

My only hope is, and it's a faint one, that by midterms everyone will have had a chance to use their new "insurance" and will be suitably pissed off and will vote against any Democrat running for anything.
Then we get a dominant GOP in congress. Hurrah? That's when the real praying should start.

Anybody who wrote such solid praise of Reagan as she did in When Character Was King: A Story of Ronald Reagan can't be all bad. And she has a sweet way with words, too.

I personally wish them a painful death. May their corporations crumble and with them, their destructive, despicable, dishonest propagandists. May they become ashes in the dust bin of history and a lesson for everyone who attempts that vocation in the future. . A truly "free" press cannot stand without honesty and truth. Without it, you've become collaborators in exterminating a nation. Good riddance, Neither me nor my family for generations will ever read or watch their tripe, or see it beyond the partisan exercise in prevarication it is,
