Director Of ClimateGate Unit To Step Down Temporarily
— DrewM

The science suspension is settled.

Britain's University of East Anglia says the director of its prestigious Climatic Research Unit is stepping down pending an investigation into allegations that he overstated the case for man-made climate change.

The university says Phil Jones will relinquish his position until the completion of an independent review into allegations that he worked to alter the way in which global temperature data was presented.

Fuller story here.

Until about what, two weeks ago? This guy was one of the leading figures in the AGW world and now he's on his way out.

And so begins the great unraveling.

One great upside to this...the media embargo has to break. This guy is to big to just step aside without being commented upon. Now, the stories will be slanted and idiotic but the truth will start to seep out in drips and drabs.

How long until Charles Johnson releases one of those sobbing internet videos imploring the world to just "Leave Phil Jones ALONE!"?

Thanks to Jean (who is a guy) in the comments for the heads up.

Well, the people organizing the independent inquiry will need to find someone to chair it who's an expert in the matters the East Anglia CRU deals with.  And as it happens, Dr. Phil Jones has recently become free to take that engagement, and he's obviously the world's leading expert on what goes on inside the East Anglia CRU.

40 The best this "investigation" could generate is an administrative slap on the wrist, because to do anything worse would subject the "judgment" of those higher up the chain than Jones to question and they're not looking for that.

At this point, all the university is looking for is some temporary political cover.

They also need to largely exonerate Jones or else some uppity MP's might start some crazy talk about cutting back funds to the university if actual fraud were determined.

Sloppy science, bad judgment, poor record keeping can all be forgiven, "fraud" has legal implications that go beyond internal university politics or the scientific community.

I will not believe ANY whitewash by the leftist university system. All the data and studies, with methodology should be published for one year prior to ANY new laws being passed.

After the AGW scam is made apparant ALL laws already passed should be repealed and the people who took federal dollars for their fraudulent work should be jailed. Or at the very least, forced to repay with interrest all the grant money they got.

I have a better idea.  How about a "criminal investigation" with like..prosecutors and detectives and search warrants?

Some of the money this faux institute of scientific inquiry comes from U.S. government sources (e.g. Nasa) IIRC), so let's do one here...maybe that Hansen douchebag would like to get him some of that "settled science" Federal-pound-me-in-ass-prison style.

Our troll has a theme song:

Four, tres, two, uno

Listen up y'all ‘cause this is it
The doll that I'm bangin' is delicious

Ergalicious definition:
Make them knuckleheads loco
They want my ass canned
So they search my trash can for my photo

You can see me, you can't squeeze me
I ain't cheesy, I ain't wheezy
I got reasons why I tease 'em
Blogs just come and go like seasons

Ergalicious
(So delicious)
But I ain't repetitious
And if you was suspicious
All that shit is fictitious

I post pisses
(Ewww)
That puts wingnuts on rock, rock
And they be linin? down the block
Just to watch what I got
(Four, tres, two, uno)

So pernicious
(It's crock, crock)
So pernicious
(I put them ‘nuts on rock, rock)
So pernicious
(They want to kick my ass for my rot)
IÂ’m Ergalicious

Climate science had a strong basis stretching back 200 years, while evidence for global warming came from a number of different sources including ice cores which went back as far as 800,000 years into the past, he said.

''This is evidence that is overwhelming, from all sources, that's the kind of climate science we're talking about,'' he said.

Yeah! See! Not the crummy junky kind of climate science. Now go rot in hell you bible thumping deniers.

Phil Jones being forced to acknowledge  his lies/failures over the entire lifetime of GW hysteria will be inavaluably illuminating. I assume there will be a massive attempt to whitewash, but their ship already has a hundred holes in it. They can't patch them all before it sinks.

True, there are potential pitfalls ahead.  But potentially the most important part of Climategate is that these sciientists (with untold millions of dollars, vast bureacracies, a massive political arm, etc.) could NOT find catastrophic AGW. Makes one think it's not out there to be found. Whoever comes next will have to do legitimate science, which will make the whole operation useless to the Left.

Posted by: Roadking at December 01, 2009 11:44 AM (DvkHj)

134 Evidently, Penn State is looking into an investigation of their own pseudo-scientist, too. Amazing that Mann's insane hockey stick (and the resulting smackdown of that idiocy) didn't prompt it, but that's what federal funding will do ... Good old government. It is the anti-Midas.

There's actually a better chance that Jones will be fully investigated than what Imhofe will uncover.  First, unlike the USA, a recent poll before ClimateGate, 54% of Brits thought AGW was a crook.

The skeptics in Britain, not only scientists, but politicians.  Some came out quickly asking for an "independent" investigation bny those completely outside either the pro or con AGW researcher - else, no support.

Anyone hear any update on the Kiwis?  Caught "massaging" their data to fit the "concensus", and had promised an explanation one week ago.
