Friday Night NFL - Chargers and Titans
— Dave in Texas

Hope everybody had a great day today. I just got back from visiting my family up in Dallas, and witnessing the remnants of the first white Christmas there I ever saw in 40 years (am told there were a few in the area, officially DFW recorded the first one this year).

I blame Gore.

Friday night game on the stupid NFL network tonight. Here's some Christmas cheer to go with it.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your AoS experience this year. 2009 was kinda sucky for a lot of morons, so I'll raise a glass to each of you for the coming year...and likely spill whatever this is on my head.

All the best, ya meatheads.

1 You were in Dallas?

Next time up, swing by your alma mater and I will be glad to host you for steaks and beverages of your choice.

2 Thank you for the NFL thread, DiT!

I have the stupid NFL network (and, yes, the broadcasts are pretty amateurish, but at least it's football).  Need a monster night from Chris Johnson for Mr. Y-not's FFL team.

I saw somewhere earlier Dave that said this was the first white global warming Christmas that Dallas has had in over eighty years.

That blonde needs some Orthodontic work...seriously, though.

Thanks for always being there for us morons. Even if we have to pretend we're happy to watch/discuss NFL games rather than NHL.

Today, the Universe managed to sneak yet one more layer of crap onto the Shit Sandwich that has been my year. Showed up for Christmas dinner with my family and they were just finishing up their meal, no place setting for me, no food left, and the gifts had all been exchanged!?!?

 I RSVP'd and showed up on time...Merry Christmas - G.

Looking forward to 2010...bring it on motherfucker!

Man, that's terrible, garrett.  Did they at least have the good manners to act apologetic about it?

Every year Mr. Y-not and I hear people's stories of visiting their families at Thanksgiving and Christmas and every year we decide to continue our tradition of staying home (our home) for the holidays.  We started our tradition out of necessity (poor newlyweds while I was in grad school), but continue it willingly now.  If family wants to visit us, they're more than welcome.

15 @16

Yeah, they stink.  At least 5 times each game they get things absolutely backwards.  If one of them was drunk, it'd be like listening to Harry Caray.

Did you catch the game earlier in the year when the sound was out for half of the first quarter?

Usually there's either a sound or video problem during every broadcast.

27 So far this game Rivers has a passing rating of 112.0, Young has a passing rating of 3.0.
I kid you not.

Let me be the first to grade Young - B +

Posted by: Chargers Fan at December 25, 2009 05:28 PM (BGZTJ)

39 Now Matt's doing alliterations using the player's names.

If he starts pronouncing the player's names as they'd sound spelled backwards and bitching about the package from 'Nuts On Clark,' we'll know he's channeling Harry.

I miss the drunk Harry

Gawd, I remember him wishing Steve Stone a Happy Easter.

And the interviews with Luis Gonzalez, whose name he pronounced in an exaggerated way...  looEESS gunZAleez.  Luis always looked like he hated Harry.

One of the best moments was when they had just finished plugging Nuts on Clark, a local business that often sent them treats to the booth, and Harry thought the mic was off and proceeds to swear about the effin nuts.

At the time that I was following the Cubs (80s), I was also following the Mets (and rooting for the Cards).  I do miss how good those Cubs broadcasts were.  Really well-produced.  They had better super slow mo than the national broadcasts.  Such a joy to watch the day games, particularly compared to those lousy ill-lit Mets games with the jet engines blaring away during the game.

49 If the D holds, they probably sit LT and Rivers will have one last drive.

As far as Harry moments, the best was when the panned the stands and he would comment, look at that hottie.  Only Harry could get away with calling someone barely in high school a hottie without getting arrested and fired on TV like that.

What was truely disgusting was how Steve got shit on after correctly calling out the Cubs for their lack of effort on the field.

53 Ladanian Thomlinson is 0 for 1 passing which is a stellar performance compared to the Titans QB. LT is a running back.

54 What was truely disgusting was how Steve got shit on

I really liked Steve as an announcer.  I learned a lot about baseball, especially pitching, from his comments.

You know who's an over-rated broadcaster?  Joe Buck.

Skip Caray was pretty lousy back in the day (is he still calling the Braves' games?).  He used to put me to sleep.  Something about his voice.

Posted by: Y-not at December 25, 2009 05:54 PM (sey23)

Joe Buck is the Troy Aikman of announcing

Posted by: fartbubble at December 25, 2009 05:55 PM (cBeTr)

57 The Cubs players bitched and there was a bunch of stuff that went on in the backroom.  I think Chip was forced out and Steve gave the Cubs the middle finger and bolted.  Its a shame, Steve was good enough that he should have been dictating terms.  No announcer has the insight that Steve does when doing a game.  He should be doing baseball tonight, everyone on that show is an amature compared to him.

Yeah, they only put the games online to try and get people to tell Time Warner to carry the NFL network. But i doubt many people are going to switch to satellite just so they can get the eight thursday night games from NFL network, most will just sign up for a NFL package.

66 #70 especially after the patriots/giants game a bit back.  The NFL has shown that they will lose the game of chicken with the cable companies and cave and allow the networks to carry the big games.

I was shocked that the NFL put their fans above their business interests.
