— Russ from Winterset FIFTEEN INCHES of snow reported in Winterset this morning. I just turned on the front porch light, and the drifts have taken over our whole front yard.
Now I'm not saying that this is an epic blizzard, but the pack of wolves rampaging down our street hunting for unlucky morons who dare go out in the elements are all wearing little knitted booties on their paws.
I was promised Global Warming. Where is it?

Here in SE Minnesota, I woke up to about 18 inches, with a stiff 30-40MPH wind blowing it around. My front door is blocked halfway up; I'll have to tunnel out. Oh, and the temp? -3F straight temp, -30F with wind-chill. Fun times.

I just cleared off 12 inches of global warming from my driveway and it's still coming down. Winds will pick up today and it will get down to -5 F tonight. I'm just north of Iowa City. I work at the University of Iowa and it's closed today. They rarely close.
Damn that global warming!

LOL, today it is in SC. Supposed to get to 72°F here today. Problem is that it is storming like hell. We are getting a thunderstorm right now and there is a tornado watch out.
But tomorrow supposed to get 27°F. And to all you porr folks living up there in the North, there is a reason that when I sent out resumes after I got out of the Navy that none went to a location any higher than Southern Tennessee.
In addition none went to any area with a city larger than 15,000 people.

They like to push that crap out there when there are only two places that have an accurate temp monitoring system, the U.S. and Europe. So where are they getting this data for the "rest" of the world? It comes from that magic tree that absolutely refutes all of the real world data that was collected.
The same thing goes for NASA. Markey on TV yesterday lying his ass off. He maintained the climaquidick emails mean nothing because NASA shows heating. Evidently the stupid cockholster didn't read that NASA's chief source for their fraud was also implicated in the emails.

Good morning Alex. Same here. This has been the coldest summer that I can recall since moving here in 1977.
In any case, last year about this time over one of those slow posting weekend days I did an experiment for local mean temperatures and found that the monthly averages for Oct and Nov were about 2.5°F lower that the numbers during the same months 10 years earlier. I published that and several Morons from different places all over the country did the same thing for their areas. They ALL came out lower than the previous 10 year numbers. The NW in the Seattle area had the largest drop with a 5°F average lower temp.
Of course those numbers haven't been "normalized" by NASA or NOAA.

First of all, doesn't it seem a tad convenient to say that the earth was hotter in places where NOBODY IS? We're supposed to buy that? Yeah, you may have been colder but we have a thermometer being read by a marxist in asia that says something else.
The medieval warming period produced so much more food than before that the population exploded leading to the plague, rise of cities, end of feudalism, crusades, etc.
I don't believe it's warming, I don't believe that if it is warming (which it isn't) it's man-made, AND I don't believe that if it's warming and man made (which it isn't) that it's a bad thing. It's probably a good thing especially in those areas that grow food instead of sand.

#60,
"First of all, doesn't it seem a tad convenient to say that the earth was hotter in places where NOBODY IS"
There's more truth there than you know. For example, today's Washington Post has a top of the fold/A1 story on Climate Change in Australia. It's 100% false, but since so few know which end is up in Oz, the story gets legs.
I was involved w/a similar WaPo hitpiece last year when they A1'd a story on the previous winter being "completely snow free" in parts of Eastern Europe. I emailed photos I had taken the 1st week of Jan that year in Budapest, Bratislava, and a few other towns & cities (some showing over 1.5 meters snow)
The then ombudsman replied to me that my photos were "unvetted" and therefore "questionable".
They're not interested in either "truth" or "reality".

Ah, Vic that is seriously messed up.
Well, my husband just left for his second day of attempted travel. How's the weather in Ohio?? Sunny and warm, right?
You would have to see how it snows in upstate NY, especially that year. On the typical morning all you saw in the parking lot of the apartment that I lived in were snow covered humps. You would find "your" hump, brush snow off the fenders and look at it, seeing the correct color you commenced digging. After I got it dug out, I brushed the snow off the driver's side door and got my key in it only to find the door would not open. Clearing the glass I saw that it wasn't my car but it was the same shape and color.
As for Ohio, I wouldn't know. It has been a few years since I have been there. I am in SC. And it is warm and rainy here.

The Gorebal "Warming" ended up in Milwaukee, where, thanks to Lake Michigan keeping things warm, it rained between 1 am and 6 am, breaking up the snow into two batches.
To the west and north of my bunker, however, it's a "slightly" different story. They got what you got - wet and heavy snow all night long.

With the publication of damaging e-mails from a climate research center in Britain, the radical environmental movement appears to face a tipping point. The revelation of appalling actions by so-called climate change experts allows the American public to finally understand the concerns so many of us have articulated on this issue.
Climate-gate,” as the e-mails and other documents from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia have become known, exposes a highly politicized scientific circle — the same circle whose work underlies efforts at the Copenhagen climate change conference. The agenda-driven policies being pushed in Copenhagen won’t change the weather, but they would change our economy for the worse.
The e-mails reveal that leading climate “experts” deliberately destroyed records, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and tried to silence their critics by preventing them from publishing in peer-reviewed journals. What’s more, the documents show that there was no real consensus even within the CRU crowd. Some scientists had strong doubts about the accuracy of estimates of temperatures from centuries ago, estimates used to back claims that more recent temperatures are rising at an alarming rate.
This scandal obviously calls into question the proposals being pushed in Copenhagen. I’ve always believed that policy should be based on sound science, not politics. As governor of Alaska, I took a stand against politicized science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population had more than doubled. I got clobbered for my actions by radical environmentalists nationwide, but I stood by my view that adding a healthy species to the endangered list under the guise of “climate change impacts” was an abuse of the Endangered Species Act. This would have irreversibly hurt both Alaska’s economy and the nation’s, while also reducing opportunities for responsible development.
Our representatives in Copenhagen should remember that good environmental policymaking is about weighing real-world costs and benefits — not pursuing a political agenda. That’s not to say I deny the reality of some changes in climate — far from it. I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. I was one of the first governors to create a subcabinet to deal specifically with the issue and to recommend common-sense policies to respond to the coastal erosion, thawing permafrost and retreating sea ice that affect Alaska’s communities and infrastructure.
But while we recognize the occurrence of these natural, cyclical environmental trends, we can’t say with assurance that man’s activities cause weather changes. We can say, however, that any potential benefits of proposed emissions reduction policies are far outweighed by their economic costs. And those costs are real. Unlike the proposals China and India offered prior to Copenhagen — which actually allow them to increase their emissions — President Obama’s proposal calls for serious cuts in our own long-term carbon emissions. Meeting such targets would require Congress to pass its cap-and-tax plans, which will result in job losses and higher energy costs (as Obama admitted during the campaign). That’s not exactly what most Americans are hoping for these days. And as public opposition continues to stall Congress’s cap-and-tax legislation, Environmental Protection Agency bureaucrats plan to regulate carbon emissions themselves, doing an end run around the American people.
In fact, weÂ’re not the only nation whose people are questioning climate change schemes. In the European Union, energy prices skyrocketed after it began a cap-and-tax program. Meanwhile, AustraliaÂ’s Parliament recently defeated a cap-and-tax bill. Surely other nations will follow suit, particularly as the climate e-mail scandal continues to unfold.
In his inaugural address, President Obama declared his intention to “restore science to its rightful place.” But instead of staying home from Copenhagen and sending a message that the United States will not be a party to fraudulent scientific practices, the president has upped the ante. He plans to fly in at the climax of the conference in hopes of sealing a “deal.” Whatever deal he gets, it will be no deal for the American people. What Obama really hopes to bring home from Copenhagen is more pressure to pass the Democrats’ cap-and-tax proposal. This is a political move. The last thing America needs is misguided legislation that will raise taxes and cost jobs — particularly when the push for such legislation rests on agenda-driven science.
Without trustworthy science and with so much at stake, Americans should be wary about what comes out of this politicized conference. The president should boycott Copenhagen.
The writer was the 2008 Republican nominee for vice president and governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009.

Actually they are mostly upset that the "powers" have decided that with a major recession in progress that the citizens will not stomach sending huge sums of money to third world dictators.
This conference could be a good thing. If these third world asshats get too po'd they could start ratting them all out and exposing the fraud on a scale that the media simply can not ignore.
After all, if they are not getting their cut, why should the big ears get his cut.

97 PP,
yeah let's keep the debate honest....
the contention is that man through his original sin of technology has caused "global warming" the window necessary for snow is 32 degrees or so with the normal atmospheric conditions that lead to that ground condition....
now we had several mild winters back home in Ohio that "proved" "abrupt climate change" but when those same areas experience their "weather norm" it is evidence that the "global" warming took a detour and decided to hide 200 degrees or so of heat increase in the geological equivalent of a "backyard".....
actually that kind of nails it....
the warmists are asking us to believe that the US is somehow colder but the Gobi is warmer because that's why and for proof they use the equivalent of taking a city block's temperature readings off the guy who has a bonfire raging in his backyard's place....

Michael, let's remember to ban mention of snow from all periodicals. The damn denialists keep using the fact that it is colder now then it was to argue against it being warmer. I mean, here we are trying to do science, and they keep trying to test our theories with data. Who do they think they are?
Posted by: Phil Jones at December 09, 2009 05:52 AM (bgcml)
Can't compete with the tales of 1 foot+ snow, but waking up to 1/2 inch of slush covering everything was also a nasty surprise. Here in southern Michigan we're told that a big blizzard in on its way to cover and freeze over all the mushy stuff, providing a lovely blanket of thick snow over an ice sheet. Driving in to work tomorrow should be a great time (/sarc).

#123,
Why can't you admit that a major Blizzard the 1st week of Dec. in that region is a very, very rare event (at least in the past century & 1/2)?
Ever been to Iowa?

We're in flyover country, so I'm guessing....no.
I mean, it's just been reported as the worst storm in what, 20 to 30 years? No big deal, we oughta be used to it. Just like PP would ignore the fact that we enjoyed a toasty July and August this year (why, I think it hit 70 a coupla times, didn't it? It was a nice break from all those 60's highs and let me put my light jacket away for a few days), or last winter we had that long streak of temps hovering around -40 before the wind chill kicked in.
Forget about the floods about two years ago following another year of heavy snow. I don't think that made the news out there, because there weren't any fake reports of cannibalism in Cedar Rapids or Des Moines from Anderson Cooper/Shep Smith to sex it up.
Yep, nothing to see here, it's all flukes, move along please....it's still getting warmer in the Gobi Desert and Bangladesh needs the international climate change tax money more than anyone else and that's all that matters.
Besides, Iowa....Idaho....Ohio....all those states with too many vowels are pretty much all alike, right?

BC, PP, you aren't making a very good showing of it...
If you're thinking that most people on the coasts would say "no big deal, doesn't always snow in Iowa?", then you're probably correct.
So what? Reality is a b***ch. It's a rare event. Can't help it that some are stupid.
Posted by: Jess at December 09, 2009 06:28 AM (Ths7h)
Where I live (upper peninsula of Michigan) we are notorious for heavy snow. Lots and lots of it. But this storm (18 inches so far) is lots more snow than we usually get . Our yearly total is 175 inches, or there abouts, but the snow acumulates between November and May-so even for us, this is unusual. In fact, we rarely get school snow days-they only cancel school for extreme temperatures (usually -7 and below) but today is a snow day.

The other day I heard several democrat pundits explain (with straight faces) that the economy will not get fixed without the health care bill passing. I honestly don't know how they didn't at least smirk.

First I got a call from the shift manager to see if I could be at work at 10 because she can't get out. I said I couldn't until the snow plows got around here. Then she called back to tell me that only 3 stores at the mall were going to open today so not to bother to come in.
More funemployment for me!

I think i can see Russia from my back porch. Here in Calgary, the wind chill went to -30 C. Poor rottie cano nearly froze his ----- off. We need the snow pack for the Olympics in Feb.
One of our gold medal hopes for the downhill just had a career ending injury. Poor kid.
Vancouver is now starting to brag about the Winter Games, after many Calgarians showed them how to organize.
I'm telling the Canuck fans that their hockey team is like the Titanic. They look great till they hit the ice.
Now i gotta build courage to shovel the walks.

(Oh, and it was also mid-teens this morning with a steady 15-20 mph wind. Good times!)

But we have no confidence that they are not still using contrived numbers, such as the Arizona stunt of averaging an inaccurate city measurement (influenced by increased pavements) with the accurate rural one. All we know is that their contrived data continues to report higher numbers.
Gaia has kindly warmed the chilly world and removed glaciers from Illinois. She is now being angered by her pseudo worshipers who take her name in vain, and who are trying to cool earth and take over her job. I burned a tire in defiance of the Gore proselytes, and gave thanks to Gaia for the long term warming trend.
She smiled on that, and sent the snow just north of me to Iowa.
Praise Mother Gaia.

What I find amusing as a long-term visitor is the touching ability of the State(Columbia's democratic alternative to wait a sec there is no other paper) to call for Sanford's head while ignoring the Baucus story....

Well, it depends on what there definition of fixed is, doesn't it.
If fixed means reducing unemployment and raising real wages, then indeed, Obamacare will NOT fix the economy.
If fixed means setting up a technocratic structure where loyalty to the government party is the primary means of career advancement and a large body of people are kept on the government dole to ensure the election of government party hacks, then oh yes, Obamcare will indeed fix the economy very well.

I used to get that paper, mainly at my wife's bidding. It got to where I just could not stand it any more. They are nothing more than a PR rag for the Democrat Party. I told them that when I cancelled my subscription. Also, the local paper in my small town was bought out by the outfit in Florence. It turned in to a PR rag for the Democrat Party. I canceled them as well.
We currently have no papers left that are not rags for the Dems now.

Temp has dropped about 8 degrees since I got to work, it's 48 outside. The great thing about the global-warming caused snow last friday was that it froze long enough to kill most of the mosquitos.

I was promised Global Warming. Where is it?
Answer: Shhhh!!!! We are hiding the decline. How can you do this with fifteen inches of snow on your yard? Simple. Think like a liberal - ask yourself is that really snow or a product of the VRWC. Blame Bush, and then put on you swim suit and jump into your pool. When you get pneumonia, never fear, the democrats have passed the public option so that you can go to the local hospital for free care. Hint, you must speak spanish.
