Gordon Brown, meet Tommy Atkins
— Russ from Winterset

Oh dear. THIS is bad. Really bad. Even if you think Gordon Brown and his merry band of mental defectives deserve every bit of the ass chewing they got from a bunch of pissed off soldiers, its never good when a military force has this level of contempt for their political leaders.

I know its hard to be shocked by anything coming out of Britain these days, what with the Islamicization & their authorities having a hard-on for anyone who dares defend their lives & property from drunken yobs or "YOUEE"*, but even during the darkest days of "the Blitz" or during the wasteful offensives in 1916 you never saw this sort of thing happening.

(h/t Instapundit, and extended entry inspired by commenter "Michael Eagen" at the original Times Online article)

* - YOUEE = Youth Of Undetermined Ethnic Extraction.

TOMMY
by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936)

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

6   Actually, I don't think that this is something that we want to encourage, enoxo.  Our military has a long & proud history of political non-involvement, and this sort of thing, while it would sure as hell feel good, threatens to turn it all on its head.  Hopefully, all of us out of uniform can make enough of a fuss so that the guys in uniform don't have to go to these lengths to get their point across.

8 They want to cut support for wounded troops. Meanwhile, they have Islamists raising a dozen kids on the public dole, and they're paying other people to stay at home because they're too fat to work.

Priorities.

I think a lot of our troops have contempt for Obama.  They also have enough class to keep it under their hats.

And that, of course, is not a slam to the British soldiers.  They have plenty of reasons to do what they did to Brown - a man who couldn't care less about them or their needs.

We've never had an America-hating enemy as CinC. We've had a couple of Presidents who were hostile to the military, but never any that had the goal of actually destroying the US, as The Precedent is clearly all about.

Personally, I'm amazed that none of the general staff has resigned over the way this Precedent and his band of stooges are trying to screw the US. The dithering on Afghanistan IS the strategy (if this wasn't obvious to people at the start, it should be by now) and it is directed against us.

Seems unlikely at this point. A large percentage of the population has become a rent-seeking constituent, only concerned with protecting government jobs and handouts. Few anti-statist politicians can be elected in this situation. Coupled with a post-modern PC outlook, the UK is skirting dangerously close to the point where a violent backlash seems possible.

Then again, it's possible they just muddle along into a quiet decline where immigration slows and emigration becomes the operating word for the few dynamic youngsters.

21 Brown's government hasn't given the soldiers anything, and he's butchered every attempt to meet with them and their families. The worst was the letter to a soldier's mother earlier this yr, the structure of which made it sound like he had no respect for the military. No wonder they despise him.

29 Russ is right.  You guys cheering this need to realize this doesn't mean the Brits are going to start supporting their troops in Afghanistan - the war is even more unpopular with the public than it is with the troops.  The most likely scenario has them pulling their troops out entirely and continuing to slash the military budget.  Hell, Tommy'll be lucky to get a ride home.  From our perspective this is bad news.

This whole scam may have started with Silent Spring and other New Age blathering but now it's all about the money.

From logprof's linked article:

Russia is the worldÂ’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and lags behind many Western countries in greening its industry.

However, its emissions plunged in the Nineties as its economy collapsed and it now sits on a treasure trove of unused carbon emission permits that could be sold to other countries.

THE WIDOW'S PARTY
"Where have you been this while away,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
'Long with the rest on a picnic lay,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
They called us out of the barrack-yard
To Gawd knows where from Gosport Hard,
And you can't refuse when you get the card,
And the Widow gives the party.
       (Bugle:  Ta--rara--ra-ra-rara!)

"What did you get to eat and drink,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
Standing water as thick as ink,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
A bit o' beef that were three year stored,
A bit o' mutton as tough as a board,
And a fowl we killed with a sergeant's sword,
When the Widow give the party.

"What did you do for knives and forks,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
We carries 'em with us wherever we walks,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
And some was sliced and some was halved,
And some was crimped and some was carved,
And some was gutted and some was starved,
When the Widow give the party.

"What ha' you done with half your mess,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
They couldn't do more and they wouldn't do less,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
They ate their whack and they drank their fill,
And I think the rations has made them ill,
For half my comp'ny's lying still
Where the Widow give the party.

"How did you get away--away,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
On the broad o' my back at the end o' the day,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
I comed away like a bleedin' toff,
For I got four n*ggers to carry me off,
As I lay in the bight of a canvas trough,
When the Widow give the party.

"What was the end of all the show,
    Johnnie, Johnnie?"
Ask my Colonel, for I don't know,
    Johnnie, my Johnnie, aha!
We broke a King and we built a road--
A court-house stands where the reg'ment goed.
And the river's clean where the raw blood flowed
When the Widow give the party.

One thing to remember is that the British PM is not their CinC.  The CinC is the Queen.  So British troops don't feel they're honor bound to show Brown the respect US troops are bound to show Obama.

And Brown has drastically cut spending on military equipment and supplies, while increasing the social welfare programs at home.  So some of those soldiers feel Brown has some responsibility for why they're lying here without an leg or arm.

Michael Yon reported on Britain's SAS troops a while back and he said those guys were awesome.

Here's a song my father's uncle taught him (he was a wounded survivor of the bloody mess known as The Battle of the Somme).

Gassed last night and gassed the night before,
Going to get gassed tonight if we never get gassed any more.
When we're gassed we're sick as we can be,
'Cos phosgene and mustard gas is much too much for me.
They're warning us, they're warning us,
One respirator for the four of us.
Thank your lucky stars that three of us can run,
So one of us can use it all alone.

Bombed last night and bombed the night before,
Going to get bombed tonight if we never get bombed any more.
When we're bombed we're scared as we can be.
God strafe the bombing planes from High Germany.
They're over us, they're over us,
One shell hole for just the four of us.
Thank your lucky stars there are no more of us,
'Cos one of us could fill it all alone.

63 Wounded soldiers have earned the right to pull their curtains closed  for those who have shown them contempt.  In hospital one is not obliged to speak to visitors who upset them or interfere with healing.  When contempt is shown to those who volunteer to spill their own blood on behalf of those who sit and whine at home, it is no surprise to see contempt returned. Contrary to popular belief, soldiers are not machines, nor are they robots. They are human beings.  To act like one is a great achievement.

64 I would like to  know what morons think of this tidbit I read today:

If you check Obama's last trip over seas. His wife left just after their visit to France as stated below. She has yet to accompany him to any Arab country. Think about it.

I was at a Blockbusters renting videos, and as I was going along the wall, there was a video called "Obama". There were two men next to me. We talked about Obama.
These guys were Arabs and I asked them why they thought Michele Obama headed home following her visit in France instead of traveling on to Saudi Arabia and Turkey with her husband..
They told me she couldn't go to Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Iraq.
I said "Laura Bush went to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Dubai."
They said that Obama is a Muslim, and by Muslim law he would not be allowed to bring his wife into countries that accept Sharia Law.
I just thought it was interesting that two Arabs at Blockbusters accept the idea that we're being led by a Muslim who follows the Islamic creed.

They also said that's the reason he bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia. It was a signal to the Muslim world.

65 Britain has hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Moslem countries who have no intention of learning English or otherwise assimilating. They have lots of children and Her Majesty's government gives them generous welfare cheques.

Meanwhile, the freedoms of British citizenry are being curtailed left and right (all in the name of "safety" or "the children") and they just shrug and get used to it.

For a long time, I wondered when the British would simply say "Enough", but now I believe they never will.

Consider: Compare/contrast this reaction by combat veterans to a political leader who exhibits obvious disdain and/or indifference to their needs and the quality of their service to the attitude of vets towards other national politicos.

For instance, although in many other respects George W. Bush is rather clearly wanting in regards to national leadership, it has always been quite apparent that he respected and honored the U.S. military, not just as an organization, but as the individuals within that organization, and did everything he could reasonably do to address their needs and to properly value their service. Therefore, it is unimaginable that he would ever be treated by vets in the manner Brown was (rightfully, in my view) treated.

I wonder, though: Is Western civilization, for the nonce, disappearing?

"He also bowed to the Emperor of Japan, and I'm pretty sure he's not Shinto.  Not defending the guy, but I'm pretty sure he's just spineless."

I don't think that The One is Muslim either.  I 'm pretty sure that he was raised as a Muslim, but he's a leftist now.  Apparently, it's not that big of a conversion.  He's on pretty good terms with the Nation of Islam types.

In any case, it's pretty significant if there are a lot Muslims who believe he is.

I just watched The Huckabee Show on Fox. I find it hard to argue with the guy. Is the opinion of huck often put out on this blog, real?

Would you rather O'wun another 4+3 years? Besides Palin, Who Else Has A Shot at dumping the assjackers? Who?  I know the messm will use the pardon thing, not to mention a LOT of folks on my side. (I understand the cop killer was 16, when convicted, and sentanced to 100+ years)

What do you want?  Who would you rather have in charge?

I'd take a chance on a Palin or Huck, We really Have nothing to loose at this stage. Make a difference.

I agree with most of your statement, but not with  " George W. Bush is rather clearly wanting in regards to national leadership."  I think history will show, that while being relatively myopic towards seeing only what it took to keep the military solution on track, he gave in to the opposition when that was compromised. That, and the fact that he is humbled by what he sees as his past indiscretions, kept him from blowing his own horn loud enough to be more dominate in the domestic front.  I think he took a long hard look at what was important after 911 and did what he thought was best for the nation.

He certainly was raised a Muslim. He spent his formative years (ages 5-10) in the largest muslim country in the world, registered as a muslim, with a muslim stepfather. It's pretty tough to get more of a muslim upbringing than that.

In any case, it's pretty significant if there are a lot Muslims who believe he is.

Posted by: RayJ at December 06, 2009 08:57 PM (YcjCJ)

Just as someone with a Jewish parent would be considered a Jew (even if it's a Jewish father, which wouldn't make him a halachic Jew) whether that person were raised a Jew, or not. But, The Precedent was registered as a muslim at one of his Indonesian schools and his biological father (so far as we know he is) and later stepfather were both muslims, so I don't see where anyone can have any doubt about how the Indonesian imbecile was raised. The only people who seem to have any doubts about the deep muslim connections (and obvious sympathies) The Precedent has, are whites.

I doubt that The Precedent is still a muslim, but I have no doubts that he was filled with the sort of third-world thinking that one would expect of one who grew up in Indonesia. He has a great hate of the West and is concerned with nothing more than than our destruction - as has been overt in all of his policies, aside from the mind-numbing stupidity that pervades his retarded thoughts and ideas.

Muslims rightly regard the Indonesian imbecile as a muslim by birth and upbringing - which there is no question about. It is only idiots who refuse to utter his name, 'hussein', who have some sort of problem admitting the obvious. But, their refusal to say his name just goes to show that they know what he is.

As to his bowing to the Saudi king, there's little question in my mind that that was due to a muslim connection from his childhood - sort of like seeing an old grade school teacher after many years and still calling her "Mrs. Jones". The Precedent's bowing to the Japanese emperor was due to a different situation - the cultural stupidity of The Precedent. He thought he was being cool and non-Western. Instead, he was just his usual foolish and imbecilic self. He is, after all, a retard whose IQ is only barely into double digits.

In the end, there is one thing that should be perfectly clear to all, The Precedent is in no way American in his sensibilities and has not a clue what our nation or culture is about. He is a third worlder who sees himself as the avenging angel of the third world, brought to power here to exact revenge on the West for our productivity, creativity and over-achievement. America, unfortunately, feels the same way and voted for national suicide on Nov 4th. We are in the aggregate, in the words of the impenetrable nincompoop Ehud Olmert, "tired of winning".

Ever been to a third-world country?

Trust me:  We have a LOT more to lose.

As for Huckabee...The fact that Jesus forgave you doesn't mean the state should.  He is, after all, in Heaven, and thus won't have to run for his life if you decide to shoot up a coffee shop.

I can't believe that we're getting hijacked to answer a Huck question, but I'll try:

Mike Huckabee is inherently untrustworthy.  He lied about his position on immigration, he lied about his actions with regard to clemencies/commutations/pardons, and he lied about his intentional anti-Mormon shitstirring ("Don't THOSE PEOPLE think Jesus and Satan were brothers?").  I think he probably lied about his support for more taxes & fees, the use of state funds and acceptance of gifts through a HUGE loophole in Arkansas law (can't take gifts unless they're wedding gifts?  RENEW YOUR VOWS!), but the evidence for these isn't conclusive enough to call him a liar.

He also demonstrated cluelessness on foreign policy (he attacked Bush's actions on Iran based solely on the fraudulent National Security report about Iran's lack of a nuclear program), and he's got an incredible gift for telling the wrong joke at the wrong time.

Combine all that with his smarmy "I'm the only Christian Candidate" attitude, and yes, I think Mike Huckabee would be an EPIC FAIL as a candidate.  The only way he could possibly get elected is because Obama's screwed the pooch so badly that even someone who gives Biden a run for his money as a window-licker could win, and if the approximately 4,500 other Republicans who are more qualified to be President were suddenly stricken with a disabling illness or killed in a meteor strike.

I don't think that even with those extraordinary conditions that Huckleberry Hound could win. As you say, there has to be thousands of more electable Republicans in the wings, and many of them are conservative enough to be the contrast we need to win.

"Nissssh"?

Does that mean, "You're wrong", or "I disagree"?

The country is in a bind.  This much is obvious.  However, the OMG WE'RE DOOMED is counterproductive, as well as being factually incorrect.  As Russ points out, there are problems with Huck--not the least of which is the fact that, in this day and age in this country, the 'Jesus is my BFF' candidate just ain't gonna win, dude.

No worries, ls.  You didn't do a major threadjack, and it IS sort of in context.  We're all good.

I think that electing as many Conservative Republicans to office in '10 will help offset quite a bit of the damage that O will do executively.  Then, when he doesn't have a Democratic congress to give him cover on some issues, he'll have to crank his wheel HARD left and expose himself as the exact opposite of what he campaigned as, giving us a better chance in '12.

87 Secundus,
I don't think the Christian thing is Hucks' downfall.  The majority of the population of the US is Christian, and always has been. I'm not, personally, but I don't have any problems with his religious views. I've got lots of problems with his liberal, any way the wind blows politics! A Christian should apologize to no one for his views.

We should concentrate on peoples actual shortfalls, not our imagined and assigned ones.

88 I don't think the British are ripe for a military coup but the Tories have no balls these days and are damn near as corrupt as Labour.

I've said it before - I'll gladly vote for Sarah, I'll vote for Mitt, I expect I'd vote for Pawlenty, but I will never vote for Huckabee.

He's GWB without the mumbles.  More 'compassionate conservatism'. Don't need another one of those.

91 I wouldn't want our military to disrespect the President except in the (hopefully highly unlikely, but who knows with Obama) circumstance that their oath to defend the constitution requires it.  As I understand it, the British PM is elected to parliament by his district (or whatever the British equivalent is), and is elected to the office of PM by his party if they hold the majority in parliament.  Since our President is elected by the entire country, I feel that his office deserves more deference as the means by which our military is subject to civilian leadership than is the British PM.  Just my two cents.

Huh? Is there another Donna on this thread besides me?  I haven't said anything yet  about Huckabee on this thread.

For the record, there is no way I would vote for the Huckster.  I haven't been able to stand him ever since he stirred up bigotry against Mormons during the primary.  And he's a soft-on-crime, big spending RINO to boot. And I'm a believing Catholic, but Huck probably doesn't think we're Christians either.

I completely agree with you. I argued the same thing in my county caucus last time. Then that derelict that didn't even run in Iowa got made our choice to vote for, and I had to deal with the old lesser of two evils paradigm.
We need to keep up the Tea Party pressure and let the nobles know that we exist. We can take this country, but only if we try! Pale pastel candidates do nothing for our country.

Can we trade our pos for some of those Brit tommies and those Brit civvies who are worth a damn?  Kinda like an exchange -- yeah, we can give Gordo an equal number of moonbats and anarchists (hey, they hate America anyway, bet they'd love Britain) in exchange for those Brits (not like he likes them anyway).

Everybody wins, no?

In local news, the flaming leftists on my local paper are driving me sick: a "conservative" calls for protest marches and (peaceful) civil disobedience, and "all right wingers are treasonous, violent troglodytes, blindly worshipping the idiot snowbilly and obviously want to kill the President and overthrow the government...they really should be imprisoned, the lot of them"...all the guy asked for was a protest and read a list of demands to Congress...

Oh, and the military MUST do what the President orders!!
