Heisman Watch UPDATED
— Dave in Texas

UPDATE: Mark Ingram, The University of Alabama

On ESPN now.

Quarterbacks Tebow or McCoy? Running backs Gerhart or Ingram? Or defensive monster Suh? Last defensive player to win the award was Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997.

My guess? Here's a clue.

Navy QB, Heisman winner, 1963.

1 I voted for Barry several times. He deserves it as much as did the Nobel Prize.

2 If the Huskers had an Offense; it would be Suh's.

3 I'm cynical: Tebow will take it. Obama will finish number two.

Someone might have had a better season than Tebow (I do not watch college football) but he seems to make alot of plays like this...

5 Obama will win.  I've run the numbers.

6 Should be Suh's anyway, especially after the TU game.  But they just showed Torretta, thus reinforcing it's all about BS.

8 I don't think the voters will give it to Tebow or Ingram. I think the finalists are McCoy and Suh. I was born in Alabama, so I'd shamelessly vote for Ingram, but I think in the end it goes to Obama.

In the end, it is all about Teh Won.

9 I don't follow college football but am watching this ceremony. I would totally vote for this Stanford guy. He is smart and talented and the way underdog. I'm a Seattle sports fan so I'm used to cheering for the underdog.

Tiger is cheating on his wife with 10+ women and Tebow is taking a sick girl with a brain tumor that causes her to shake to an awards show. On his arm on the red carpet. The egomaniacal athletes of today could learn something from him.

13 wow.

14 Ingram looked pretty good last game, but I think McCoy gets the Heisman, Kanye grabs it from him and says that Ingram was the best running back. TV award show drama will play out yet again.

Suh got robbed.  The fact that Nebraska even made it to the Big 12 championship was because he single-handedly destroyed several offenses during the season, in contrast to his own team's popgun offense.  Take Suh out of the lineup, Nebraska wins 3 games, tops.

Ingram's VERY good--this isn't a Gino Torreta-over-Marshall Faulk type screwjob--but Alabama would still be a BCS-worthy team without him.  The bias against defensive players is ridiculous; Woodson only won the Heisman because he returned kicks and played on offense once in a while so he could get some touchdown highlights on ESPN for his candidacy.  He was a magnificent defensive player and should have won based on  that alone, not because he had to be an all-purpose player to get extra Hesiman consideration.

Oh well.  Suh will likely be the #1 pick in the draft and will be set for life, but there isn't a doubt in my mind he's the best player in the country.

27 Yes!!  Now I hope this doesn't mess with his head.  There's a big game still to go.

32 Woodson only won the Heisman because he returned kicks and played on offense once in a while so he could get some touchdown highlights on ESPN for his candidacy. He was a magnificent defensive player and should have won based on that alone, not because he had to be an all-purpose player to get extra Hesiman consideration. Actually, he should have lost big to Manning, but that's ancient history now.

33 Barry didn't win the Heisman?!?!! I demand a full investigation by ACORN.

Posted by: TheQuietMan at December 12, 2009 07:04 PM (1X+Yj)

34 McCoy finishing ahead of Suh in the voting is a travesty.  Really can't argue with either Ingram or Gerhart.  The Heisman is pretty much a joke these days anyway.

Posted by: mcassill at December 12, 2009 07:45 PM (n7Du2)

35 Ingram played (and won) against 6 of the Top 20 defensive teams. He also had more receiving yards and receiving touchdowns than Gerhart. Suh shoulda been 3rd. McCoy is gonna be so mad, he'll choke in the Bama game. I predict 4 INT's in a rout to end the "Age of the Quarterback" and to usher in the new "Age of" whatever it'll be. I predict that Suh just opened the door for Rolando McClain, a linebacker that also plays for The Tide, to walk through next year. In the history of tradition-rich Alabama, we had never had a Heisman winner even with names like Stabler, Namath, Starr, Cornelius Bennett, Derrick Thomas, Ozzie, and Hannah wearing Crimson. Now that the moment has passed and memories have been made, our team can now return to Monday's practice with clear heads to try to finish the trifecta of perfection while playing in the toughest division, in the toughest conference in America: SEC Champs, Heisman Winner, National Champions. Rarely does a team even have a shot at "The Trifecta" and it should be a phenominal game IF McCoy and Ingram play the way a the winningest Quarterback EVER and two-time Heisman candidate and the third Sophmore ever to win should play head-to-head, offensive weapon vs. offensive weapon, #1 defense vs. #2 defense, and tradition vs. tradition. If history is any guide, Texas will win as they are 7-0-1 all-time against Alabama. But this year's team seems like they are determinedto make history, rather than remember history. R.M.F.T. FOREVER!!

36 It's pretty amazing he's the 1st Alabama player to win ine, given all great teams they've had.

It was a charity vote. Boohoo crimson tide doesn't have a heisman trophy winner. (and Ingram didn't win 6 of 20...his team did. Perhaps u missed where there is no "I" in team. Must be a Messiah fan)

Ingram didn't deserve that trophy. He had a good game against FL, but not impressive and the Heisman is not won on one game alone. It's built on an entire season. McCoy won all the other offensive awards. Suh won all the defensive awards and should have been higher on the list. I'm a PAC-10 fan, and bias leads me to want to see Gerhart take it. However stats say that McCoy and Suh should have led the pack.
