— Ace With... adults. The most liberal Democrat friendly sample there is.
Here's another finding: The public likes the idea of pulling troops out of Afghanistan, but they seem to get what a bad idea it is to announce a bug-out date:
20. President Obama also announced that he plans to start removing U.S. troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2011. Thinking specifically about that policy and not about Obama's decision to announce it at this time, do you favor or oppose Obama's plan to start removing troops fromAfghanistan in 2011?
Dec. 2-3
2009
Favor 66%
Oppose 32%
No opinion 2%
21. And regardless of how you feel about the plan to start removing troops in 2011, do you think it was a good idea or a bad idea for Obama to announce that policy at this time?
Dec. 2-3
2009
Good idea 39%
Bad idea 59%
No opinion 2%
Bad idea, 59%.
Thanks to AHFF Geoff.

I agree with every one of them. And not a single gratuitous Republican figure made the list. In other words, it's a good list, for once.

What would have been a good idea is to keep the announcement private between himself and Karzai (or however you spell it).
My knees are starting to hurt from all this ball-dipping.
This is one joy of getting old. The balls droop down to dipping level, requiring less knee-bending. God is smart.

Nobody gives a shit torturing islamists or keeping terrorists in Gitmo. The Republicans need to fight back on these two points instead of running away from them.

As soon as managers get next year's budget and need to trim even more of their skeletal staff, and the holiday hires are back at the unemployment office, his numbers will plummet again.

My take on why people want out of Afghanistan is that they look around the world and see failed states. Failed states - states with shit like pirate stock exchanges - that are pretty scary. Afghanistan, dispite our having been there for 8 years, is well down the road to failuredom. Pakistan is already there. People look at these places and they look unsalvageable. They look at the underlying reason, the wave of religiously driven radical savages breaking over this region that is threatening to carry away even the previously western friendly secular regimes like Turkey and Egypt, and they can't see, after what we've done so far, the least glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
Ironically, that is the same picture that people who think we should stay see. Try to hold back the wave of evil until something changes, something that would make victory possible. Kinda like the 300 Spartans. And the Persian armies aren't even engaged yet.
My bet is that unless there is something secret out there that we don't know about, we are going to wish we had a whole bunch of those F-22s in our back pocket.

Gallup hasn't polled well in years, so I wouldn't look at that number and just look at the longer term trend from them, its down and thats all you need to worry about from Gallup. Some folks may (temporarily) become aware there really is no such thing as Santa Claus (or a free lunch). Don't expect too many from the political spectrum to make much about how there isn't a Santa Claus. To many politicians make living trying to be a year round Santa Claus, buying votes with money taken from other hard working taxpayers.
