Doinnnnggg! CNN: Obama Underwater, 48 Approve, 50% Disapprove
— Ace

With... adults. The most liberal Democrat friendly sample there is.

Here's another finding: The public likes the idea of pulling troops out of Afghanistan, but they seem to get what a bad idea it is to announce a bug-out date:

20. President Obama also announced that he plans to start removing U.S. troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2011. Thinking specifically about that policy and not about Obama's decision to announce it at this time, do you favor or oppose Obama's plan to start removing troops from

Afghanistan in 2011?

Dec. 2-3

2009

Favor 66%

Oppose 32%

No opinion 2%

21. And regardless of how you feel about the plan to start removing troops in 2011, do you think it was a good idea or a bad idea for Obama to announce that policy at this time?

Dec. 2-3

2009

Good idea 39%

Bad idea 59%

No opinion 2%

Bad idea, 59%.

Thanks to AHFF Geoff.

I agree with every one of them. And not a single gratuitous Republican figure made the list. In other words, it's a good list, for once.

What would have been a good idea is to keep the announcement private between himself and Karzai (or however you spell it).

This is one joy of getting old.  The balls droop down to dipping level, requiring less knee-bending.  God is smart.

I'll give him this, however, his incompetence and the related decline in his approval rating truly is unprecedented.

For now.  Holiday hiring has temporarily decreased unemployment, and his West Point speach has certain squishy segments of the electorate giving him another benefit of the doubt.  As soon as managers get next year's budget and need to trim even more of their skeletal staff, and the holiday hires are back at the unemployment office, his numbers will plummet again.

My take on why people want out of Afghanistan is that they look around the world and see failed states.  Failed states - states with shit like pirate stock exchanges - that are pretty scary.  Afghanistan, dispite our having been there for 8 years, is well down the road to failuredom.  Pakistan is already there.  People look at these places and they look unsalvageable.  They look at the underlying reason, the wave of religiously driven radical savages breaking over this region that is threatening to carry away even the previously western friendly secular regimes like Turkey and Egypt, and they can't see, after what we've done so far, the least glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Ironically, that is the same picture that people who think we should stay see.  Try to hold back the wave of evil until something changes, something that would make victory possible.  Kinda like the 300 Spartans.  And the Persian armies aren't even engaged yet.

My bet is that unless there is something secret out there that we don't know about, we are going to wish we had a whole bunch of those F-22s in our back pocket.

Thank all the gods.

96 97.  Yup.  37% favorable is usually fatal for incumbents.  Hopefully the GOP doesn't find yet another way to f*** that one up.

During my time at Fort Sam in the late 60s there was a snowfall. Maybe an inch. Cars were on the sidewalks and everyplace else you don't expect them to be. Being from Colorado I found it amusing.

I posted it to the Headlines thread yesterday.   Yeah, the whole country is going down like a Dansk Prostitueret on Phil Jones, but at least when we're starving to death in the dark, we'll know it's all worth it because Michelle's kids look adorable.

I thought most of the accessories looked like cat toys.  Criminally overpriced cat toys.

139 "In the meantime Gallup and Rasmussen have President Wonderfuck creeping up."

Ras is in a range of 45-47.  The range used to be 47-49.  He's not moving up.  Gallup hasn't polled well in years, so I wouldn't look at that number and just look at the longer term trend from them, its down and thats all you need to worry about from Gallup.  Even kos is having trouble making up good numbers for Obama.  I wonder just how bad the internal polls look for Obama.

The question is, what is the magic number that finally kills the health care takeover?

Posted by: Just Another Poster at December 04, 2009 01:24 PM (NgoAe)

140 Christmas time clarifies the economic and jobs problems more than any other time of year -- folks can't just go out and fill up Santa's bag like normal.

Some folks may (temporarily) become aware there really is no such thing as Santa Claus (or a free lunch).  Don't expect too many from the political spectrum to make much about how there isn't a Santa Claus.   To many politicians make living trying to be a year round Santa Claus, buying votes with money taken from other hard working taxpayers.

142 "The question is, what is the magic number that finally kills the health care takeover?" 40% or lower - they're still trying to fudge for him but the trend is unmistakable and downward. Remember there's a reason that he wanted all of this stuff passed so quickly. My guess is that he know the economic picture is only going to get worse (or else he knows the Bibi takes a dump on Iran in January) so expect some cranky pics of Obama in the months to come.
