Independence Day Weekend
— Dave in Texas

Morning Morons!

A friend of mine, Mrs. Peel, tipped me this pic and it's old but f'n' awesome.

America, Bitch.jpg

I hope you are all gearing up for a great weekend. I am planning on BBQ later, then a baseball game tonight, Astros and the Red Sox, with family and friends.

I will be wearing a helmet for most of it. Safety first.

Have a good weekend you goobers, and remember those who are deployed in harm's way, and their families. Especially our moron friends who have that going on right now. God bless em all.

10 8, One day is not enough to celebrate our great Nation. The Fate of Unborn Millions. . ." "The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army-Our cruel and unrelenting Enemy leaves us no choice but a brave resistance, or the most abject submission; that is all we can expect-We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die." -- George Washington to his troops before the Battle of Long Island.

18 The more I read Pre-revolutionary war speeches. The more I see the only thing that is different between then and now are the dates they were written. This is not one of them. But it rings true. "Colonial rebellions throughout the modern world have been acts of shared political imagination. Unless unhappy people develop the capacity to trust other unhappy people, protest remains a local affair easily silenced by traditional authority. Usually, however, a moment arrives when large numbers of men and women realize for the first time that they enjoy the support of strangers, ordinary people much like themselves who happen to live in distant places and whom under normal circumstances they would never meet. It is an intoxicating discovery. A common language of resistance suddenly opens to those who are most vulnerable to painful retribution the possibility of creating a new community. As the conviction of solidarity grows, parochial issues and aspirations merge imperceptibly with a compelling national agenda which only a short time before may have been the dream of only a few. For many Americans colonists this moment occurred late in the spring of 1774." -- T.H. Breen,

23 Unfortunately for us, we are not able to be in our really small town America home location this weekend and will miss the Fourth enthusiasm.  There are multiple local parades and celebrations planned throughout the area (none of which will include an apology to the British after the reading of the Declaration of Independence).  Why it is almost like these people are still patriotic or something.  I am sure that the Rural Council EO will help to make these parades fairer (or demand that they be canceled).
God Bless America!

25 And finally the last bit of writing I wish to share with you. This is written by a fine, patriotic American that has withstood the bullying of the Federal Government since the Clinton Admin. This is no small thing, to restore a republic after it has fallen into corruption. I have studied history for years and I cannot recall it ever happening. It may be that our task is impossible. Yet, if we do not try then how will we know it can't be done? And if we do not try, it most certainly won't be done. The Founders' Republic, and the larger war for western civilization, will be lost. But I tell you this: We will not go gently into that bloody collectivist good night. Indeed, we will make with our defiance such a sound as ALL history from that day forward will be forced to note, even if they despise us in the writing of it. And when we are gone, the scattered, free survivors hiding in the ruins of our once-great republic will sing of our deeds in forbidden songs, tending the flickering flame of individual liberty until it bursts forth again, as it must, generations later. We will live forever, like the Spartans at Thermopylae, in sacred memory. -- Mike Vanderboegh, The Lessons of Mumbai eath Cults, the "Socialism of Imbeciles" and Refusing to Submit, 1 December 2008

28 Yesterday, July 1st, was Canadian 4th of July -- or as they call it up there, Canada Day.

Apparently, there was a big to-do in the Great White North because this year the Canada Day weekend fell amidst the annual Gay Pride bacchanalia, so politicians and others were getting heat from gay-nadians for attending Canada Day events or spending time with their families, instead of hitting the "correct" events.

40 I guess I'm becoming an emotional sap as I age, but I've gotten to where I love seeing the flags everywhere on the 4th of July.

I started getting mushy about it when the picture came out of the firemen raising the flag over the ruins of the World Trade Center after 9/11.

I remember thinking....

"...the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that the flag was still there.... the flag was still there, you bastards..... the flag is still there."

Sigh.... sort made me feel kinda all patriotic n' shit.... and for all our troubles I still get that way on the 4th.

54 By depose I mean remove from power.  I understand that the Iraqi reconstruction was fucked up forever, but wasn't the real war part, where we defeated their army and took the capital, over in a matter of weeks, or am I not remembering correctly?

The reason I ask is that I seem to recall that Saddam had, what, the fifth or sixth largest army in the world and we dealt on him militarily in only a short period of time.

If NATO is actually targeting Quaddafy with assassination attempts then why isn't he dead already and why aren't our allies already in Tripoli?  Is this just a function of an aerial-only campaign not being able to close the deal, or are the rebels so hopelessly incompetent we're looking at months more of this embarrassment until someone finally kills the Colonel?

56 Another good line:

"Colonel Qaddafi is not impressed by an indictment from The Hague, and so far he is not backing down in the face of the combined air power of France and Britain. Qaddafi fears no new Napoleon or second Wellington, and he will leave only if the United States, for either good or bad reasons, decides to lend Europe the military wherewithal to end the Libyan regime."

66 The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

American Atheists is sponsoring July 4th aerial banner planes reading "Atheism is Patriotic" and "God-LESS America." Dave Silverman, President of American Atheists, said that the purpose of the banners is to "highlight the fact that atheists are everywhere, in every parade, on every beach, and in every state, city, and town." While the group was aiming to have planes fly with their message in all fifty states, about half unpatriotically declined American Atheists' request to exercise their free speech with this message.

My "Honor Student" niece, a candidate for admission to NYU, never read... hell, never HEARD of... 1984 and has NO idea what "Big Brother" means (other than some idiotic TV show). Only heard of Augustus Caesar because she happened to take Latin and (I guess) there was no way for her "prestigious private school" to avoid mentioning him. I used to be impressed by "name schools," the Ivy League, etc. Now I wonder if the majority of their "great students" so much as know what the American Revolution even WAS. Our public schools are among the best in the state, at least according to the statistics. But the curriculum seems to be designed for the convenience of the teachers and administrators, not the education of the students.

My youngest just finished her junior year, during which she watched more movies in class than I ever did. She also spent a lot of time making posters and simply sitting around because the "quarter's lessons are complete, and there is no point in moving ahead."

The teacher's unions are a blight on this country and will need to be crushed before we have any realistic chance of educating our children.

(Mama, you are serving too, it's just stateside, keeping homefires burning. Been there, done that, and I empathize completely.) Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, full of beer, watermelon, grilled stuff, and fireworks, if there are no burn bans in place. We have 'em, so we will be low key. Besides, our dogs are still traumatized from being kenneled when we went to WDW a couple of weeks ago. I think fireworks might put them over the edge.

90 Speaking of "The Star Spangled Banner," there's a commercial that makes me sad.  I can't remember what it's for, but it shows little kids who are about kindergarten age trying to sing it and they get all of the words messed up.  It's cute as hell, but yet disturbing to me because it makes me wonder how many kids know the words to at least the first stanza.  Same with the Pledge of Allegiance.

When I was in grade school, back when dirt was new, I remember this one kid Danny who got into an argument with the teacher that you were supposed to say "...and to the Republic, for Richard Stands..." because that's how his daddy had told him it went.

91 @91 didn't look at the sidebar but still felt like giving it a read. The Declaration was mainly concerned with the fact that the colonies were not governed with the consent of the governed, and yet today we frequently cede democratic control to unelected groups (and I think the Senate is debating or already passed a bill to reduce the number of appointees needing Senate confirmation).

111 CNN trying to make some kind of stupid correlation between the new illegal immigration law in GA and a shortage of farm workers to pick peaches etc. What BS. Quoted a "farmer" complaining because "locals" just wouldn't do the job.

1. They can get legal workers
2. They can get local workers.

The difference? They have to pay them a legal wage. CNN and the rest of the Democrap Party wants to flood the country with these "new voters". Of course once they become "legal" they will not work for slave wages either and the cycle starts over.

You know ... the 4th of July is really a lot like the 6th day of Ramadan.  This is not a mere coincidence, however, as we all know that it was a muslim-American who created the 4th of July during one particularly interesting Ramadan.

Soooo close to an actual op-ed in yesterday's Washington Post:

The Fourth of July: What does it mean to an American Muslim?
By Imam Johari Abdul-Malik

The Fourth of July has many meanings to this American Muslim.  It is both a source of pride, disappointment of a dream deferred and the hope of fulfillment of a universal promise of freedom - Independence - and equality for all.  History reminds us that on July 4th 1187 Sulahudeen Ayoubi liberated Jerusalem from the Crusaders and invited the expelled Jewish families to return to their homes in the Holy Land.

As a descendant of enslaved Africans, many of whom were Muslim, I recall that in over two hundred years of slavery Islam was systematically removed from my people until emancipation in1865.  In the post Malcolm X era (1965); after one hundred years of freedom, Islam is among the fastest growing traditional religions in America.  Faith flourishes in freedom.

The Fourth of July: What does it mean to an American Muslim?
By Imam Johari Abdul-Malik

If he's linking the Fourth of July to an Islamic "liberation" action (i.e. the retaking of Jerusalem, which the Muslims conquered from the native Christian and Jewish occupants centuries before), Imam Abdul-Malik is missing the point behind being a true "American Muslim".

As a descendant of enslaved Africans, many of whom were Muslim, I recall that in over two hundred years of slavery Islam was systematically removed from my people until emancipation in1865. The alternative was they could still be in Africa facing epidemic AIDS, genocide, living in third world conditions, or be drug chewing gunmen for drug lords.. Here they are in the world's greatest country where 20 million people have swam, ran and jumped across the border illegally to get here and they complain. Worthless POS.

Pay a decent wage, obey the freakin' law, and get that produce to the market at a price I'll pay for it! That's America. That's capitalism. Battle of Hattin July 4, 1187
Aftermath

The exhausted Christian captives were brought to Saladin's tent, where Guy was given a goblet of iced water as a sign of Saladin's generosity. When Guy passed the goblet to his fellow captive Raynald, Saladin allowed the old man to drink but shortly afterwards said that he had not offered water to Raynald and thus was not bound by the Muslim rules of hospitality.

When Saladin accused Raynald of being an oath breaker, Raynald replied "kings have always acted thus. I did nothing more." Saladin then executed Raynald himself, beheading him with his sword.

The True Cross was fixed upside down on a lance and sent to Damascus. Several of Saladin's men now left the army, taking Frankish prisoners with them as slaves.

Burch writes..... at July 02, 2011 10:54 AM (sJTmU) I just completed the two three-day weekends of Wood Badge training (advanced leadership training for Scouts and Scouters in the BSA). One if the many great aspects of this experience is that at each of the first four out of six day's flag raising ceremonies, a different flag in the path of our nation's flag evolution was raised after first having had it's history read aloud (e.g. John Paul Jones' "Serapis Flag" from the battle in which he captured the HMS Serapis while fighting in the USS Bonhomme Richard). The only sour note in the series occurred on the fifth day, when the "Ecology Flag" was feted.

139 On Monday, July 6, two days after the battle, the captured Templars and Hospitallers were given the choice of converting to Islam, or death.

The executions were by beheading. In an act of solidarity, many of the captured crusaders falsely claimed to be Templar knights, forcing Saladin's men to behead them as well.

"Saladin ordered that they should be beheaded, choosing to have them dead rather than in prison. With him was a whole band of scholars and sufis and a certain number of devout men and ascetics, each begged to be allowed to kill one of them, and drew his sword and rolled back his sleeve. Saladin, his face joyful, was sitting on his dais, the unbelievers showed black despair" – Imad ed-Din, Saladin's Secretary

150 Chattel slavery is still widely practiced in East Africa, The Middle East, and in China/Asia. But you would never know that if you rely on the MFM.

As for the illegals working for a few cents an hour you can call that "slavery" but it isn't chattel slavery.  Now instances of that with the illegals do exist but in most cases it is females that have been rounded up and who are kept in bondage for use as unpaid prostitutes.

SLED here busted a camp of these people somewhere here in SC a few years ago where these slave women were being used in that manner.

If I am not mistaken the charged the people running the camp with actually running a slave operation. And that carries some healthy prison time. I don't remember the outcome of the case though.

When I first got a pointer to VDH, I was amazed at his ability to capture not only the present scene but correlate it to historical events.  But, like you, I found his writings (although demonstrably true) to leave me with feelings of considerable anxiety.  I very rarely read his work anymore, because I fear he is too prescient.

Ever read any of VDH's books?  I've only had a chance to read Ripples of Battles and while I thought the third battle he used as an example of how one battle causes a ripple effect throughout history (Battle of Delium, 424BC) was a bit weaker than the rest (and he played the "what if" Socrates didn't survive the Battle of Delium game a bit too much), it is still a great read.

177 Er, Morons, may have have your attention for a sec? Teacher unions don't set the learning standards. The state department of ed does. The state also sets the testing schedule. School districts set the testing schedule and course of study/curricula. Often certain periods are used for testing, so teacher use supplemental materials, such as movies, for the periods that still meet. Good teachers have the students complete activities in conjunction with the film--essays, study guides, etc. I'm not defending the corruption of the unions at all, but citizens have more power than they realize to effect change by going to their local boards of education to review the curriculum.

Let's all wish DSK a Happy 4th of July. Offer him a hot dog and take him to a fireworks show with American patriotic music.

No hard feelings, huh, Kahn? What do ya say??

Well, let's see what we have.

1   Black female AIDS sufferer with job, child, and asylum status alleges rape by older white male. What's a New York prosecutor to do?

+

1    Turns out alleged victim is so full of lies and criminal connections (see NY Post and NY Times today -- it's devastating) that it's pretty clear she needs to be prosecuted.

=

2    This African scamster picked the wrong rich white guy to set up. It seems her crime network is very smart and does its homework well. For the future they might research political orientation and professional affiliations of their marks. This could have worked on either of the Koch brothers, but not on DSK.

As for DSK, he's guilty of solicitation of prostitution at a minimum. He also seems to have a genuine history of abuse and assault, so it's not as if a totally innocent man has been ruined or cosmic justice has been insulted.

I see this as a royal case of these foreign scamsters imposing on the goodwill and the sense of justice of American people. Some of the details are so sordid they make your skin crawl -- the maid memorizing a tape provided to her by some fellow scamster on how she was gang-raped in her homeland so as to increase her chance of gaining asylum status. By all rights this should lead to a massive investigation of the crime networks she had contact with and a huge review and rewriting of our visa application processing of nations that export criminals to America for the express purpose of robbing us by gaming our goodwill.

It's all fucking disgusting.

Yeah. Buy two. Unless your yard is measured in inches you'll need two of those things to mow the whole yard without recharging. 203 0.5 acre is the average suburban yard in the Southeast and much too large for an electric lawn mower. Only in CA (like where I used to live) are the lawns small enough for those things.

My lawn in Castro Valley was about 15 feet by 30 foot in the front and non-existent on the sides and back. (right side was barely wide enough to walk through, left side non-existent)

My current yard is 1.5 acres.
