— LauraW We're looking for strong challengers. We're looking ahead at what could be a Conservative blowout in 2010. This is an excellent moment to promote our best and get them into office, everywhere.
Going forward, please TELL US when you see a candidate who can confidently and clearly enunciate and defend Conservative principles and who needs some exposure. Tip me, or tip Ace or any of the other cobloggers.
Here is an electrifying address from Lt. Col. Allen West, who would very much like to represent Florida District 22 in the U.S. Congress.
An excerpt from his Wiki page (fair warning):
While serving in Taji, Iraq on August 20, 2003 as commander of the 2d Battalion 20th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel West was in charge of the interrogation of an Iraqi police officer who was suspected of having information about planned attacks on American forces. According to the Iraqi police officer, Yehiya Kadoori Hamoodi claimed that during the interrogation, soldiers under West's supervision assaulted him attempting to get him to talk. The police officer insisted that he did not know anything about planned attacks and was loyal to the United States Army. However, when the detainee didn't talk, Lieutenant Colonel West fired his 9mm pistol close to the man's head and at this point, the man, according to some mainstream media such as CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/12/12/sprj.nirq.west.ruling/), gave information about a planned ambush, resulting in its being thwarted. According to West, there were no further ambushes on U.S. forces in Taji until he was relieved of command on October 4, 2003.
FRICKIN AWESOME UPDATE: From the CNN article in the Wiki quote. Lt. Col. West's testimony at an Article 32 military hearing:
Asked if he would have act differently if under similar circumstances again, West testified, "If it's about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I'd go through hell with a gasoline can."

There's no reference/source for that "assault claim." Unsurprising. Basement trolls spend a lot of time inserting unsourced negative stuff into Wikipedia entries about conservative people. Dunno if they're paid by Axelrod, or they do it because they believe...

There's a "rule" that people aren't allowed to write/edit their own entry. But if he or his campaign or even one of us removed an unsourced slur, the roving bands of trolls would put it back in.

He is a former local football hero, played college ball for Michigan State and briefly played in the NFL.
This will probably guarantee a Dem in the Statehouse in 2011 just in time for redistricting. Especially after the newspapers have been non-stop on jumping on Sanford.

I like this guy a lot.
As far as other candidates go, here in CT, I've got to support Rob Simmons in the race for Dodd's seat. The Republican primary contender field seems to be thinning out a bit. It looks to be a three way race between Schiff, McMahon and Simmons.
Simmons is ex-military (Vietnam) and a former spook. He knows who the bad guys are and the lengths that they'll go. I'll admit, that there was a bit of squish as far as his fiscal discipline went in his two terms as Congressman, but in his defense, the entire party was spending money like drunken sailors.
Given Dodd's record, I doubt he can attack Simmons for deficit spending.

That is the kind of change I believe in.
I think the path to world piece lies in duels between world leaders. Much in the same was Greek armies would sometimes like their best soldiers fight to decide the day, our leaders should challenge foreign leaders to duels over policies.
Obviously we would not institute this policy until obama is out of office because I would be willing to bet he has never fired a gun.

by Rep. John Linder R-GA
For the last several years, when people have instructed me that human activity was causing a dangerous increase in global temperatures, my response has been, "Then tell me, what should the temperature be?" Should it be the temperatures that the planet experienced 1,000 years ago during which Greenland was settled as a farming community and during which wine grapes were grown in Scotland? Should it be the temperatures of 300 years ago when the Little Ice Age ended the inhabitation of Greenland and the Thames iced over? Should it be the temperatures of 829 A.D. when the Nile River froze? No response!

It's hard to know how others perceive it when a person mentions that they served in the military, but those of us who have served, and I am one of them, we know that it was an honor and a priviledge to do so. As I said above, when is a leftist sockpuppet a good parody, or offensive? Here, it seemed we had a sockpuppet reacting to a sockpuppet.

No, Curmudgeon, not the sock. And you know I love ya, but there's kind of an inappropriate, racist-y term in there - and they're trying pretty hard to avoid that kind of talk.

Thanks for the info. That's disgusting that they did that, but it confirms how everything this asshole president does is just one big photo op. I am surprised though that they knew what an F-22 looked like.

And please, address me as Senator. I've worked so hard to acquire that title.

Yes, but the Barbara Boxer sockpuppet just would not work as well if it doesn't use the offensive term, because the condescension of white leftists so badly *needs* to be underscored.
I understand this may be a gray area, but the delightful use of leftist sockpuppets on AOSHQ is what makes this place so great.

Not so much. There's a whole lot of blue collar areas, and those people are unemployed in droves and generally pissed off. It's going to be an uphill climb, but this may be as vulnerable as Barney has ever been with his pants on.
Barney also has the added burden of having to share a ballot with Hopenchange 1.0 next year.

I am looking at the map of MA-4. Gawd, how gerrymandered can you get? I hope you are right that the blue collar "Portagees" (meant with affection) of New Bedford can outvote the academic pansies of Newton, but I have my doubts.

The Michelle Obama thing was different because it cast her personally in a insulting racial stereotype. I thought the part where she was attracted to West and planning on throwing over Barack was kind of cute. But when the ghetto-talk started I got pretty pissed off.

LauraW,
I'm pretty well aquainted with Simmons' record. He used to represent my district before that commie, Courtney, beat him by like 80 votes. I suppose it gets back to the never ending debate about how much squish you're willing to swallow. Personally, I don't give a damn about abortion and his view on it. From a Constitutional viewpoint, yeah, it should be an issue left to the individual States. Other than that, meh. Ditto regarding gay rights/marriage, so I would applaud his position opposing a Federal DOMA.
His positions on health care, defense, 2nd Amendment and illegal immigration are pretty damned good. I can't see McMahon or Schiff (who I see as a bit Paulian) being anywhere near as good. Of course, we can all just vote for Dodd.

Asked if he would have act differently if under similar circumstances again, West testified, "If it's about the lives of my soldiers at stake, I'd go through hell with a gasoline can."
I'd love to see this guy have a successful career in politics. We need more of his type in the system. People who know the right decision and make it without worrying about what the lawyer scum might have to say about it. A few like him would show the limp-dick RINOs in charge of candidate selection that real men can win.

'Nam,
I was adopted myself back in the mid-60's prior to Roe V. Wade. If abortion had been the law of the land then, I would likely not be here. That said, I still can't get worked up about the issue, other than saying I believe it belongs to the States. It's not a deal breaker for me on an otherwise solid candidate.

As long as we don't defend Bush's immigration policy, yes. Ignore the LameSM, look carefully at exactly *when* Bush's ratings went into the toilet, and draw your own conclusions.

Brookline is the real problem. But New Bedford and Fall River are where the population is. If Sholley can do well there, he can beat Barney. In related news, MA is likely to lose a Congressional District next census.

Dear Friend:
Sincerely,
Jane Harman
Member of Congress
Attached to the email was a press release from 11/3/09 in which she celebrates her support for the wonderful "deficit neutral" house bill.
It's just a hunch, but I don't think Lt. Col. West would treat his constituents this way.

Question from a guy in a state which has never lost a congresscritter yet: What happens if there are ten reps for MA in the 2010 elections, but only 9 districts for 2012? Which incumbent gets sacked, and how?

I emailed my poopstain of a congresswoman a few weeks ago
Speaking of Jane Harman, did you know that she only won in 1994 by a few hundred votes, which appeared mysteriously?
CA has not lost a congresscritter yet, even though people are leaving the state in droves, because non-voters, legal and illegal, are counted in the Census. The effect is to create "rotten boroughs", where only a few hundred votes swing elections. This in a state of 30 odd million people.
It used to arguably be the best place on Earth to live, but the once Golden State is proving to be crumbling, tarnished brass.

Yup! Plus, very few people bother to vote. I've been voting at the same place for over 20 years. Except for last year's presidential election, I rarely see more than 3 or 4 people in front of me, regardless of time of day. Last year? OMG, they were lined up around the block, between the mocha messiah and the gay marriage thing.

#57 - Blaster - The point is, he didn't order his soldiers to participate. He did it himself. There were lots of joes that would have been happy to do it; LTC West knew it would get him prosecuted, so he did it himself. That is the crux of the issue - he took the responsibility himself, knowing it would end his career.
I would like to think I have the moral courage he does, but I'm probably just dreaming. He was an inspiration to me when his story came out, and when I deployed as a MiTT team chief. I was hoping back then that I would see him again.
It's damn good to see a real leader and a real man running for office. He'll get my money. If he comes back to Atlanta, he'll get my vote.
