— LauraW The headline was supposed to be Chaz Is A Liar, but I can't fault him for it anymore.
Because just as a beautiful butterfly emerging from the chrysalis can no longer conceive of its prior existence as a caterpillar, Chaz cannot remember his own life from just two years ago.
And it's not a lie if you really believe it.
Note the Lizard King's first sentence: "A few years ago, I used to doubt that there really were climate change denialists"Ummmm, Chuck, you were one of them....

"Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)"... in his "Goodbye cruel world" post.
Back in the middle of April, Stormfront was the only site he considered reliable concerning the Tea Parties. He rejected all first-hand accounts by attendees and instead pushed the Stormfront meme for weeks. I guess rabid right-wingers like Michelle Malkin and Fox News are worse that the actual Nazis. Charlie is a tool, but more importantly he's the biggest liar on the web. It's been fun watching his site wither and die.

It's interesting how ostensibly smart people can be rendered stupid by relentless subjectivity--their inabilty to reality test, to size-up who they are and how their thought processes fit in. They cannot step back and recognize a limbic-system driven filtering of incoming information. "I choose to see this and not that." "Possibility is probability depending upon utility in the moment."
For the true perception moron--not the wily truth-bender--this process remains hidden in the unconscious. Those processes typically take place at the edge of consciousness anyway, so it's understandable. For those not attempting to create an image of intellectual honesty. But people like Chaz cannot generate sufficient mental horsepower to drag it to the surface and deal with it. (Back to reality testing.) He's in good company, though. Many ostensibly smart people are like that. I've always called them "perception morons." Primitive stuff.

I looked at that LGF calendar that Johnson is selling. Every month's picture has a caption like,
"Santa Monica Beach: Racist hiding behind starfish."
"Arizona Desert: This is the whole earth in a couple of years."
"Clouds Over Westwood: Look closely and you can make out a swastika."
"Seagull On Pier Post: I bet he's disagreeing with me about something. Fucking bird."

I'm eagerly awaiting the reaction from his latest target group of donors (Koslings and assorted mental midgets) when he begins to treat them like shit. Most moderates/conservatives just walked away when Charlie went off his meds, but I bet the Lefties cry up a storm.
Careful, Charlie, your new "friends" are a mercurial and vengeful bunch. Once they see you for what you are, you've got nowhere left to go. Bad news for the "tip jar".
Posted by: lincolntf at December 06, 2009 06:28 AM (7XkqZ)
He's been heading down that road for a long time. Over a year, by my seat of the pants reckoning. He started with creationism, then somehow made a connection between that and everyone on the right, who are all nazis, racists, truthers, corporatists, car driving bicycle haters etc. The rest, as they say, is history.
Posted by: DngrMse at December 06, 2009 06:29 AM (LWPer)
Say a big advertiser (Soros backed) offered $200,000 to buy a right leaning guy with a large following. That would buy a nice bicycle.
And then he could just go so nutty, that he wouldn't really help the left, but would actually be an advertisement for the craziness of their radical positions.
or ...
He had a stroke in the logic part of his brain, and lefty emotional appeal now dominates him.
Fortunately I only read LGF for a little while, and only commented a few times, so I don't feel any sense of betrayal.

I'd say since the GOP lost Congress. He smelled a change in the wind and thought he'd start chasing the 'new thing' to maintain popularity. Now, he's alienated enough old readers that he needs to drag in the Lefties, so he's going over hardcore to court them and their calendar-buying ways.
He's a loser trying to maintain relevance, not anyone of a consistent philosophy.

He was a leftist before 9/11, became more right leaning in terms of the war on terror and the threat of Islam out of sheer terror at the attack, and when that fear faded, went back to type. I have no doubt that pressure from leftist friends and contempt for him by people he admires in the music industry and arts played a big part too.

His expected reply is obvious. "There they go again, taking my old post out of context."
See, here's what I saw happen. Lefties hardly ever used the term "out of context" until around 2003 or 2004. At that point in time, especially in the run-up to the 2004 elections, -they- really were taking everything out of context. This is the point in time when "Dowdification" became a word, when the left was blatantly reversing and twisting sentences every which way to make them appear as the complete opposite of what they really did. Even moreso than they are doing today.
And conservatives started calling out that shit. We ourselves started having to say "you ripped that blatantly out of context" almost every day because they were -doing- it every single day. And, because our arguments had merit, it started working. People really started to notice that context meant nothing to the left, that they'd blatantly misrepresent anything and everything conservatives said.
So they went into emergency meme mode, and decided to make the phrase "out of context" their own. They'd use it at the drop of a hat, every day, every time, against every single conservative argument, ALWAYS. Even if the conservative argument was 100% in context and the supposed context the evil wingnuts left out was utterly irrelevant, or even redundant, to the point being made. It's how they react whenever they start getting successfully tarred with anything negative - project it like a freaking fire hose until their victims become perceived as the aggressors.

PLEASE NOTE: Since this show was aired, serious questions have been raised about many of its assertions. For more, see: The Great Global Warming Swindle Debate.
The funny thing is the page Weaselzippers shows is dated Sun, Mar 4, 2007 while the page in his disclaimer links to is dated Sat, Dec 20, 2008. That's 19 months later. I have no clue when Charles added that update but I'll bet it was shortly after Weaselzippers exposed him.

Arnold told him that Santa Monica will be underwater unless we stop the climate from changing. Charles is simply concerned about his precious bike path and wants to do everything he can to save California.
I know some true beleivers of AGW and they really feel like AGW will ruin the Earth. I tell them that the politicians are on a much faster pace to destroy us with reckless spending and burdendsome government.
I sincerely hope that ClimateGate revelataions, if they ever get reported in the press, will wake up some moderates that had come to beleive AGW. (Arnold, your CA CO2 emissions cap plan is based on manipulated data and falsified science! That's my tax money dude. No wait, its my son's tax money in 20 years dude.)
Nobody should be in favor of pollution or wasting our natural resources. I personally think that the conservatives should steal the green agenda away from the Democrats. Republicans now are painted by the media and Democrats as haters of the enviroment. I say that is BS. Conservatives should own the conservation mantle. There is money to be made in alternaitve energy and in protecting our enviroment. Decreasing our dependence on foreign energy is a win-win political proposition. Van Jones was right that there can be a new economy based on clean energy technology. He was wrong about it origininating with the government. It needs to be a private market initiative and the only role the government should play is giving tax breaks to alternitve energy investment. Now is the time with ClimateGate revelations to stand up and reject that AGW science is settled. Now is the time to kill the fraudulent scheme that is Cap and Trade. But simultaneously we should say:"While we don't know if AGW is happening or not, we want a clean enviroment and a future without reliance on finite fossil fuels." The conservative movement should become champions of common sense enviromental protection.

I'm guessing that this sort of pressure was the biggest factor in Charles' return to Leftist orthodoxy. It's possible to wake up from a liberal past/stupor, but Charles' coterie of inarticulate Leftist prancers has filtered and distorted reality.
I recall after the 2008 election, Charles seemed more relieved than resigned that Obama won, sort of like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and I then saw a connection to some of his positions.
Charles "switched sides", if you will, at the wrong time and to the wrong side.
Leftist programs always fail.
AGW was always under legitimate suspicion: Al Gore, Michael (never met a hot link I didn't like and eat) Moore, . . . .
No one wants want Obamacare, except perhaps an elite few and professionsl welfare-check-cashers.
We've seen how Obama spends the money of others: Annenberg Challenge, Rezko's housing redevlopment project, the $1million(?) UofI Medical funding (i.e., Michelle's 192% raise), Cash-for-Clunkers , the Bailout (at least the GM-Chrysler-UAW bailout).
Problems more screamingly obvious BEFORE they happen than Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction when it happened.
Charles signed up for all this.

When this whole blog thing began to take off in 2001-2002 I regularly read Sullivan who then turned me on to LGF and Instapundit. So just compare and contrast the careers of Sully & CJ.
I believe Sully turned for the dough. He saw the potential for online mags etc. and since he was a lefty before he became a righty, the transition could be masked as a principled, man of conscience returning to his roots (the prodigal son motif). And it works for him. He doesn't have to hold a fundraiser to take off to P-Town anymore.
Charles has probably always been exactly what he is now. He saw the threat that the Islamists posed and to his credit he has been consistently outspoken toward the charlatans and PC cops on the left. But being a man of the evangelical atheist left he just couldn't abide that the Left villified him for Rathergate and called him a racist. He was trying to be somebody he wasn't and gaining acclaim from all the wrong people.
So he began the transition by barely mentioning "RoP" and switched almost entirely to a quixotic jihad against "Creationism" thereby alienating a certain segment of his readers but replacing them with the correct kind. But why stop there if you're truly a Lefty at heart? He doesn't want any conservatives in his midst. He always despised the rubes and only wanted their money to keep his blog going anyway. He's always tweaking his blog as a showcase for his programming skillz. Jazz music isn't exactly hot right now or since the mid 60's for that matter. And so now less people read him and care what he has to say but hey, he has something to show clients.
In short, he doesn't like us, never did, but he needed somebody to pay for his prototype. Stop going there. He doesn't like you or respect you and your utility to him is no longer extant.

Me too.
Never before have I been so sure that GW is a massive scam. I always believed it to be a scam (due to common sense and basic familiarity with earth sciences/natural history), and it was easy to find the errors and fear-mongering in individual stories of GW alrmism. But proving that the entire big picture was a fake took "Climategate". Especially the plans to delete data.
Nobody EVER hides evidence that they are RIGHT.

Listen. You DENIALISTS are the same as CREATIONISTS! As a matter of fact, 100 years from now, you'll be viewed as worse than the NAZIS!
Bringing up old posts OUT OF CONTEXT, is typical right wing BAD CRAZINESS. You and your whole neo nazi, Beck & Palin loving, Vlaams Belang mirror site, Stormfront linking blog are banned from the internets forever!
May Gaia have mercy on your collective souls.
BTW, don't forget to check out the great deals at Amazon.

When this whole blog thing began to take off in 2001-2002 I regularly read Sullivan who then turned me on to LGF and Instapundit. So just compare and contrast the careers of Sully & CJ.
Interesting...that's the same trajectory I followed, too.I believe Sully turned for the dough.
Nah... I think Sully turned during the 2004 election cycle when Bush became more vocally opposed to gay marriage in the lead up to the campaign.
LGF & CJ going off the rails is much worse than Sully. LGF -- at its best, during its heyday around RatherGate -- was a great blog, and was a huge factor in raising awareness about the reality of jihadism, lefty stupidity, and liberal bias.
I think what caused CJ to crack up was that he saw his newly found post-9/11 political sensibility attracted some strange bedfellows (e.g., creationists, etc.). I do think the continued charges that LGF was a "right-wing" "racist" "hate site" had an effect on him (esp. given his pedigree as a pre-9/11 liberal).
V the K had the best comment on this a few weeks back, something like, "if I'd told you in 2004 that Charles Johnson would be blogging about <some stupid lefty topic>, would you have taken that bet?"

Johnson's transformation reminds me of someone who became communist just in time for the Berlin Wall to fall, or a guy who jumped on to the lucrative horse buggy construction industry just in time for Ford to start mass producing Model Ts.
Yeah, talk about sucky timing. But back around the time of The One's Coronation in DC, the timing must have looked great to CJ. After all, the conventional wisdom was that the new Socialist Utopia had arrived and GOP was now a fringe party. There were about 20 conservatives left in the entire country, they had maybe 5 teeth among them and spent their Sundays handling snakes and speaking in tongues. So Chuck thought he was joining the winning team. Since he always was liberal on everything except the WoT, it wasn't difficult for him to switch.
Well, The Era of Obama hasn't gone quite the way the Lefties thought it was going to go, has it? They hadn't counted on the tea parties and town halls, Palin still being a factor, the massive loss of independents, the election results in NY and VA, Climategate, and most critically, the growing realization that bambi really doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
The really funny thing is that he apparently thinks a NY Times profile of him is going to save his sorry ass. Hey, Chuckie, nobody reads the friggin' Times anymore. And you used to know that.

If any of you still have an account you should dig up some of Chuck's old posts and see if you can get yourself banned by posting them verbatim without attributing them to him or letting anyone know where they came from. It would be the ultimate humiliation for him to in effect ban himself. Especially when everyone can chortle about it later here and elsewhere. And I bet it wouldn't be all that hard to do.
I stopped reading Sullivan soon after I started because it was clear to me that he was incapable of reason... even when he took positions with which I agreed. He had some sort of huge interventionist energy policy idea that was the final straw. It amazes me how people who know absolutely nothing about the industry in question or about the engineering and scientific realities associated with an industry can come out and advocate for imposing any policy at all. It would be like us all getting a vote on whether jazz musicians should be allowed to use diminished chords.
The world is run by idiots because the idea that the world can be run is idiotic.

Good to know. I remember science before this when skepticism was considered part of the routine. Those cold fusion guys got such trouble.
If they could have claimed their science was settled and no dissent was allowed; they could have gotten trillions of dollars for the new cold fusion power plants. Sadly skepticism was allowed so they were stopped before they could drain the coffers.
This won't happen to the climate change scientists. They will not allow skepticism to happen or facts to be determined. Proof will not be allowed. Only unwavering faith in their science will be permitted.
Good to see Charles has found the party line and has the unwavering faith required to believe in "science".

He started with Baron Bodissey and Paul Belein, then turned on Robert Spencer. His war with Pamela Geller he said was due to her friendships with "nazis" like Geert Wilders, but I have a hunch that Pam spurned his advances, didn't introduce him to her friends in publishing, and reminded him too much of the Jewish Princesses in Brentwood and Santa Monica who wouldn't give him the time of day.
His hatred of Ace and the morons is especially harsh since we mock him with deadly humor and parody. A man with zero sense of humor can't possibly fight back against that.

Tangentially related, here's an article linked by Drudge today:
Copenhagen Summit: ... Caviar Wedges
And here's part of an email to Ace on 11/22:
. . .
The AGW climate Nazis have lived lives of luxury, an incredibly wealthy, extravagant lifestyle. And they've worked to build an entire culture to support their expensive tastes. I've been trying to think about some of the payoffs:
-conferences (a/k/a "parties" in exotic locales)
-flash money (per diem money)
-"research" (in exotic locales)
-flash money
-cocktail parties (in exotic locales)
-flash money
-meetings (parties) (at the best hotels and restaurants, of course) (in exotic locales)
-sabbaticals (vacations) (in exotic locales)
-flash money
-lots of other paid time off
-hot co-eds
-control over how you use your time
-"non-monetary" (tax-free) compensation
-unlimited research slush funds
They have everything billionaires have except the large bank accounts. If they want to take a biz-jet to a Mongolian desert and catch a million-dollar helicopter to a four-star campsite, while wearing expense-account obtained clothing (they get to keep), they get to. All they have to do is fill-out a form, exaggerate and embellish a little bit on the purpose and benefit, and voila, another tax-free junket on our dime.
And flash money.

The success of Bush's Iraq surge drove a number of nominally rightish leaning bloggers nuts. A number of notable ones invested heavily in assuring everyone it would fail.
What the Surge proved was they had the analytical and observational prowess of a basket full of turnips.
When you've been proven to be a fool and your ego is shattered, you don't want to hang with a crowd that knows you to be a fool...you'll seek like minded people, who were similarly wrong, but won't admit it, because that allows you to hang onto your fiction thus avoiding cognitive dissonance.
The election of the Preznit made the flip that much easier for those of muddled mind.
