New White House Meme on Terrorism: "Message: I Care"
— Ace

The White House really wants you to know that they're on top of terrorism (this time), at least after some richly-deserved me-time with some Hawaiian waffles and pineapple mimosas.

The White House wants the public to know that President Obama, on vacation at a luxurious oceanfront home in Hawaii, has received conference call updates and is keeping close tabs on the situation.

"President Barack Obama's Christmas Day began with a briefing about a botched attack on an airliner in Detroit," began an Associated Press account published Christmas evening. "Obama's military aide told the president about an incident aboard a plane as it was landing in Detroit just after 9 a.m. here [in Hawaii]. The president phoned his homeland security adviser and the chief of staff to the National Security Council for a briefingÂ…'We believe this was an attempted act of terrorism,' one White House official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive situation."

Those details didn't come from nowhere. "Within a few hours of the Delta/Northwest Airlines flight touching down in Detroit, a senior administration official telephoned and e-mailed members of the White House press pool," writes the Atlantic's and CBS's Marc Ambinder, a reliable source of the White House perspective. The administration message: We're on the case. "The apparatus of government is in high gear now," Ambinder reported.

The White House messaging on the Flight 253 affair stands in stark contrast to its handling of the massacre at Ft. Hood, Texas in which Obama, on the day after the killings, cautioned the public against "jumping to conclusions" about the murders of 13 people, and then, a day later, declared that "we cannot fully know" accused killer Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's motives. Now, the administration is openly using the T-word.

Hah! Commenters noticed (I didn't) the White House's Strange New Respect for the word "terrorism."

Terrorism Never Prospers, For If Prospers, None Dare Call It Terrorism: I forget who it was, but a commenter here pointed out a while ago that successful terrorist attacks -- Ft. Hood -- are not called terrorism; the word is resisted there. Because they don't want to admit terrorism succeeded under their watch.

On the other hand, if a plot is foiled, or, as is the case here, a plot fails chiefly due to luck (plus some quick and courageous passenger action), suddenly they welcome the word "terrorism." Hey, there was this terrorism, and we protected you from it guys! Go team! Yay, us!

New Rules: And of course we can't have common-sense rules about sketchy characters who fit the profile of those who wish to kill us; no, we need a bunch of rules that apply to everyone. Like, now you can't get up and walk about the cabin, and you can't have anything on your lap, not even a laptop or pillow.

Thanks to Dave in Texas.

11 This is only because the White House knows it is SUPER vulnerable on this issue.

AP just confirmed that in November 2009, Obama's people were informed of this Nigerian muslim bastard's intent to kill Americans.

This Muslim Fanatic, who was turned in by his own family to US authorities, SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE NO FLY LIST.   OBAMA'S PEOPLE DROPPED THE BALL.  OBAMA'S PEOPLE KNEW IN NOVEMBER 2009 THIS ISLAMIC FANATIC WANTED TO KILL AMERICANS:

DOES OBAMA NEED A SIGNED CONFESSION BEFORE ACTING TO DEFEND AMERICA AGAINST OBVIOUSLY RADICALIZED, INSANE MUSLIMS?

By PAMELA HESS and MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writers Pamela Hess And Matthew Lee, Associated Press Writers – 42 mins ago

WASHINGTON – U.S. government officials tell The Associated Press that the Nigerian man charged with trying to destroy a jetliner came to the attention of U.S. intelligence in November when his father went to the U.S. embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, to express his concerns about his son.

A congressional official said Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian, popped up in U.S. intelligence reports about four weeks ago as having a connection to both al-Qaida and Yemen.

The Moron's willingness to call this terrorism and not the Hasan Massacre is more than because this one failed.

Knowledge of Hasan goes way up in the White House.  Somebody with his track record would be included in at least a briefing to the Homeland Security czar, and probably Holder and even the Moron.  Someday we may learn that Hasan knew the Moron directly.

And besides, this incident can also be pinned on Bush.  Lax TSA procedures, you know.

Thank goodness we can rest assured that the Health Care enema will be applied with a lot more skill than our monitoring procedures for flights.  Much more important to save money by pulling the plug on a few million grannies  than to find an occassional nutter you know.  Hey, a few dozen or hundred deaths a year from man-made catastropes is a small price to pay for great public relations with our Muslim betters.

65 Observations:

Note that when it's an African perpetrator, it's "terrorism", unsuccessful or not.

Note that Obama's aides didn't come to him for three hours.  On 9-11, Bush's aides whispered in his ear that a plane hit the WTC.  At the time, most people thought it was an accident.  By the time the second plane hit, Bush was on the move and in charge.

Think about this: He may have had to ground airplanes, close airports, maybe even shoot down airliners and even when they had the information, they didn't bother the president.

So who is in charge?  More importantly, who do his aides think is in charge?

Michael Moore made a movie and the lefty blogs had a field day about Bush not going !!!111!!!eleventy!!! after the first plane hit, let alone the second.  Obama not only does not make a speech ("so as not to raise the temperature and cause a panic") or even a timely personal statement (as he hasn't done with any of these crimes: 4 cops in WA, Ft. Hood, the soldier killed in Arkansas, etc. but he just continues golfing.

It's his second Hawaiian vacation in less than a year even though he no longer has family there and rarely visited while it was on his own dime.  Does he spend any time with his kids?  I guess Christmas doesn't mean much to him (you'd think Michelle would have some residual sentimentality from her youth) but you'd think he'd focus on the kids if he's going to leave Washington.

152 You know what else covers your lap in an airplane? The fold-down table on the seat in front of you. Why, a terrorist could be assembling a dickbomb right across the aisle while you're peacefully eating your potted meat sandwich, and you'd never know! The trays must be instantly removed from all planes. Meals (which must be paid for, of course) will henceforth be sucked through a hose that drops down from the overhead control panel, right next to the emergency oxygen mask.

154 Henceforth, all airline passengers will be rendered unconscious, wrapped in duct tape, and slotted into bomb-proof tubes for the duration of the flight. On arrival passengers will be shat out the rear of the plane into a pneumatic tube that leads to a tape removal and revival station. First class passengers are guaranteed complete lack of awareness for the entire flight process, until revival.

173 Prediction:

If a large-scale "successful" terrorist attack does occur on 0bama's watch, the administration and the media won't be able to pretend that it wasn't real terrorism. No, they'll be forced to switch to Plan B.

What they will do is immediately work to create the meme that 0bama is some sort of hyper-warrior against terrorism. 0bama won't actually invade any countries or push for regime change anywhere. Frankly, he won't actually do much of anything.

But he will talk (i.e., read from a teleprompter over commandeered airwaves) about his "efforts" to "defeat" the "enemies of progress" endlessly, and the media will praise him for fighting terrorism in a manner that is "smart" and "nuanced," unlike the mentally disabled, war-mongering cowboy Bushitler.

If you think I'm wrong in this prediction, please let me know what you disagree with.

Oh yes, the next thing the low-watt TSA has allegedly planned is a follow-up on that one-hour rule:

No getting out of your seat one hour before domestic flight landings either, so:

Just ask yourself, folks: other than for what has just transpired , and maybe cutting some slack about fears of a multi-plane plot over the holidays...

...just what the EFF reason is there for the new one-hour international rule?

An hour from landing in SFO or LAX, you're over the Pacific.  Coming into  Boston, Atlanta or JFK, you're over the Atlantic.  The last 30 minutes are already "in your seats" time.

If the rule were applied to domestic flights:

*   hop on the shuttle, and sit down & shaddap for the duration.  Two hours on the tarmac?  Shaddap!!  Head for the toilets after takeoff?   You'll be beaten to the floor!

*  hour-and-ten minute flight?  After takeoff you got ten minutes, pal, to get ahead a few squirts.  After that just use the barf bag as your urinal and hand it to the FA.

*  Laptop?   BWAAAAhahahahaha!!!!

*   Netbook?  What you hidin,' shorty?

*  Blanket?   BWAAAAhahahahaha!!!

*  Pillow?  You want lube with that?

Fly the Friendly Skies!!!

Real Islamist terrorists smart enough  to avoid the one-hour rule, internationally and domestically?

You are now free to move about the cabin.
