— DrewM It's snowing where I am so....starting a fire in the fireplace and settling in for a Band of Brothers DVD marathon. Out of respect, I'll let the fire die before Bastogne and The Breaking Point (if I get that far).
I wish the DVD extras were a little better with the series but that's a minute quibble when you consider how great the series is.
Interesting note...Band of Brothers premiered on HBO the night of September 9th...2001. Certainly a timely reminder just as we were about to need to call on the dedication and sacrifice of another generation of heroes.
What do you guys have going on today and tomorrow? FTR- I don't really care, I'm just trying to start the thread off.
Oh yeah....Happy New Year to all you wonderful degenerate morons!

Winds of War
War and Remembrance
Worth every minute of your time, plus there is romance for couple watching.
Fabulous mini-series....should be run in every junior and high school...it would combat the I hate America and I hate Jew junk that is being taught there. There is nudity (of the jews) but these kids are being taught how to "fist" so seeing people going in to be gassed without their clothes on shouldn't stop this viewing.

I got Band of Brothers two years ago from Mrs. Outlaw. Awesome set. I don't really check out extras anyway.
I took the tree down this morning. This evening will be like any night. I certainly won't be going out. It's fuckin' amatuer night, just like Saint Patrick's.
I plan on enjoying a relaxing long weekend though. Even though Christmas is my favorite time of year, I'm wiped from all the festivities.

On December 26, two days after Nigerian Omar Abdulmutallab allegedly attempted to use underwear packed with plastic explosives to blow up the Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight he was on, and as it became clear internally that the Administration had suffered perhaps its most embarrassing failure in the area of national security, senior Obama White House aides, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and new White House counsel Robert Bauer, ordered staff to begin researching similar breakdowns -- if any -- from the Bush Administration.
So the first order of business wasn't to find out where "the system" broke down, but to look for mistakes made by the Bush administration they could feed to Keefums?
Posted by: kbdabear at December 31, 2009 10:26 AM (sYxEE)
"The idea was that we'd show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could," says a staffer in the counsel's office. "We were told that classified material involving anything related to al Qaeda operating in Yemen or Nigeria was fair game and that we'd declassify it if necessary."

@114 - War is ugly. And not something to be celebrated. It is a sometimes necessary, ugly, evil thing. Almost always fomented by people with ugly, evil hearts. Of course, while I look forward to the day when all nations will "beat their swords into plowshares", I'm nowhere naive enough to think we're anywhere close to that day.

The afternoon thread is sappy (a good sap of course). Does that mean tears will be shed on the ONT tonight with all the alcohol consumption and thoughts of resolutions never achieved??
Oh dear....

Last year I resolved to drink beer. I think I did OK, although maybe I should have put some sort of metrics in there so I'd know if I achieved them or not.

After I get my helmet on, so as I can sit without too much fear in my backyard, I might get sappy.

Happy New Year to you too, DrewM (and all you other wonderful M&M's!)
Greg in Seattle, the name of the soup is Ozoni--it is the best and I absolutely looove it! Hopefully I'll be eating some tomorrow at my aunt's house provided I'm not working! (I'm on call tonight, and all day tomorrow, Sat. and Sun., except for the part of Sat. when my lovely co-worker picked up some of my call for me so that I can go to the Gloriana concert with my husband and 4 of my friends (Yea!) I can't wait to see them perform, they really are good (tight harmonies, foot stomping country music) and everyone in the band is ridiculously hot (2 brothers and 2 girls). Hopefully, it will be a quiet holiday, because I really don't want to work the whole time, but you never know--esp. with a blue moon and all!

Depends on your local rules of incorporation, I suppose. I'm debating expending some milsurp tracer at midnight, but am as of yet undecided. Between the standing snow and current rain, ignition's not a concern. I'll prolly just stick to the traditional double-ought Benelli salute, tho.

You gotta get Band of Brothers on Blu-Ray. It is like watching the series for the first time again. High level of detail, especially in the dark scenes.

Oh, just something for whereistherum.
I lived in LA for a long time.. One night I was working on New Yrs Eve, and was talking to a pair of Canadian nurses. I asked them what they were going to do the next day and they just said something like spend the day off. Turns out they lived in Altadena. I then inquired if they had to drive thru Pasadena in order to get home.
"Yes, we do, why do you ask?"
Imagine their chagrin when I told them what they were about to go through.
I learned later that it took forever for them to get home that day.

I will be at home, fretting over my son's first outing on New Years Eve with friends. I don't know how I'm going to get through stuff like this for the rest of my life.
Well I won't add to your fretting by telling you what happened to my son on his first New Years outing. Just say a prayer and leave him in God's hands.
Happy New Year all you M&M's. Love you guys and sure hope to meet some of you someday if there is ever a moron meet-up in my area. Stay safe tonight. We're just staying and getting shit faced.

I think this is going to be a good year. Okay so we may not take back the House but I'm really optimistic for what this year will bring. Think of where you were last year.
I remember being at a very crowded bar. There was a great band playing and everyone was having a great time. But when the clock struck midnight I just remember sighing and thinking "I'm dreading this year". Unfortunately my fear(s) were realized and it was truly a shiteous year. However...
We made it through and we're probably stronger than we could have imagined. I *never* imagined what has transpired in the conservative movement over the past year. And that gives me hope for the months to come.*
*pretty ghey post. no, I haevn't started drinking yet!

What in God's name compels a person to think it's a good idea to shoot a gun in the air?
Phospherous rounds just light shit on fire. It snowed today, no danger. Now ganbangers emptying 15 rd clips of 9mm, different story.

The other thing about shooting guns in the air. There used to be a video of the LAPD taking cover under a freeway overpass as all the guns went off on nrys eve.
The local stations in LA showed that for years.

Flash- he'll be okay. It was by Gods grace that my son made it thru that New Years several years ago. Been thru alot with him, but he's turned into a great young man. He's been unemployed for over a year now and that would tear down the spirit of even the strongest person. He always stays positive though and I'm very proud of him.

I've raised two great sons all by myself I might add, #1 will be 40 and #2 will be 27 different Moms, put them both through college and threatened them with death if they ever got in trouble while growing up (never happened), both are hardcore Conservative and making sinful paychecks every month, proud? You bet! There is a time you just have to trust them, it's hard but you have to for their sake. Not bragging at all just fortunate.

The annual New Year's Eve fireworks show over San Diego Bay has been canceled after an environmental group threatened to sue over pollution concerns, it was announced today. . . .
"This, of course, raises doubt about the future of the July 4th fireworks as well," said Sharon Cloward, president of the Port Tenants Association. "Fireworks over San Diego Bay may be a thing of the past."

Yeah, arhooley, gotta protect against global warming. It's going to get into the 20's overnight beginning this weekend in Savannah. For at least a week, maybe longer. I can't remember a winter quite like this (although it's 70 today).
