NY Senate Rejects Same Sex Marriage
— DrewM

There was some hope on the part of advocates for same sex marriage that NY would pass it today but the state Senate just rejected it by a vote of 24 yes, 38 no. The Assembly approved the bill last night and Gov. Paterson would have signed it.

This is NY ladies and gentlemen. All Democrats, all the time.

Can we get past the idea that only Christian Conservatives oppose the redefinition of this fundamental institution?

Frankly I'm stunned at the margin of defeat. I thought it would pass by a vote or two (I even had the post written and ready to go...Flaming Skull and all) but to be trounced like this is a crushing blow.

If you can't pass this by popular will in NY or CA, where exactly is this popular? DC I guess but that's not a state.

No word yet from leading opponent of same sex marriage...President Barack Obama.

I was kind of hoping for some non-violent car burning and looting myself.  But hey, that's just me.

8 This is is frakking funny because Markos, of Daily Kos insanity, tweeted on Monday: “Holy shit — big news coming tomorrow or Wednesday. GOOD news, for a change. And yes, I’ll remain annoyingly vague about it.” He pumped it up with much glamor on his twitter, so much confidence that it was a game changer! Turns out, it was today… and the “holy s~~t big news!!!!” that he shook the kook-liberal side, making them wait in anticipation… was that NY Senate was taking up gay marriage. And it just was rejected. Markos is currently weeping on his twitter page (twitter.com/markos) that it his big news was once again an abject failure.

This is NY ladies and gentlemen. All Democrats, all the time.

This is true but there is also a sizable popualtion of blacks and hispanics in NYC that are represented and don't actually dig on homosexual marriage, you dig?

For example, from the NY Post:

During debate, Democratic Sen. Ruben Diaz, a conservative minister from the Bronx, urged his colleagues to reject the bill.
Now combine those 'no' votes with the Republican (or what passes for Republican in NY) 'no' votes and you get this result.

True, and forget about this being pointed out by the media. I'm a New Yorker and don't know why anyone is surprised that gay marriage doesn't have the votes here.

26 Thank God my state still has some modicum of sense despite the fact that it's completely bankrupt now.

Really Patterson, with all the crap we go going on, you pick same sex marriage as the front and center issue of the day?  Keep boinking that chicken, dumbass.  This is why I wish to God Rudy would just run for governor PLEASE.  I can't take it anymore.

On the upside, I just checked gayboylover Markos' Twitter page, and noticed I have twice as many followers as he does, despite the fact that I am a noname dweebie virgin with an obscure blog.  That just makes me deliriously giddy for some reason.

29 Global Warming must be happening in Albany.  I think these flesh-sacks call NY Senators are starting to feel the heat from their constituents.  The media, in Buffalo at least, have been following  senators as they hold fundraisers while the state budget is in shambles.

They most likely don't want to loose their cushy jobs.  They make $150,000+ for what is considered a part time job, not to mention all the kick backs they are getting.    At least Patterson is still telling Obastard to stick it.  Should make for an entertaining election in 2010.

You keep attacking people's religious beliefs, and they keep telling you they don't like it.

Get the government out of the marriage business, and into the civil union business, and you win.

Morons.

It's just like the "Johnny has two Daddies" or "Joannie has two Mommies".
Can't they come up with some other term?

39 I'm confused about the "same sex marriage" debate.  I'm married and, since the wedding, it has been the same sex, same sex, same sex.  I guess that's why Tiger strayed from his hottie.

Posted by: Married Dude at December 02, 2009 02:04 PM (AYVD9)

40 I just wish people would stop pretending that two men can be "married" anyway. That's like being a "gay christian". You might be one, but you aint the other, now matter how much you keep repeating it.Two men plus a wedding does not equal "married". Not a comment on being gay, cause I dont give a big shit if a person is gay. Just keep it in the bedroom where it belongs, and if you are a gay man, act like a man and not a frigging sissy-boy. You invite scorn with that disgusting horse shit.

On another blog, a Euro twit was sneering about how in Europe these sort of things are not left for the majority to decide.  Just like nobody over there got to vote on capital punishment or gun control.

The peasants still take orders from the nobles over there and this dude thinks that that makes them superior to us.  (Of course, that's how American lefties think too.)

Man, am I glad my ancestors got on that boat.

43 As a conservative I am okay with gay civil unions. Marriage is a religious ceremony. It is funny to see DEMOCRATS turn on a core constituency. I really don't see how this is a big issue. I agree that is NOT a civil rights issue. However, we have gays, they have always been a part of our society, they always will be-and it's less than 3% of the population. Let em marry and then hire divorce attorneys like the rest of us. Separation of church and state is a good thing. In 10-20 years this will be moot. Most of the younger generation supports gay marriage.

Posted by: jeff at December 02, 2009 05:50 PM (Sx9Qk)

44 @46, There are so many ways to interpret the Bible that it is probably stupid to say that gays cannot be Christians. Only the man upstairs knows. I am willing to let him judge it not me.
