— Gabriel Malor Okay, so this is OLD (thanks Dave at GR), but it pinged my weird-shit-o-meter when I saw it. All the female bears in a German zoo have lost their fur.
Veterinarians are struggling to determine why the zoo's female spectacled bears have suddenly lost nearly all their fur, which is typically shaggy for both females and males of their species. There has been speculation that a genetic defect could be responsible, but beyond the obvious hair loss and its accompanying itchiness, no other symptoms have been noted in the affected bears.

Gaah!!

Your behind the curve report from BeckoningChasm: Heroes, Season 1.
Pretty good, and a nice emphasis on "honor" in the James Bowman sense. A definite sense of Right and Wrong. Interesting to see those gifted with extraordinary power, struggle with what they would do.
Makes me interested in season two, and that's pretty rare. Also, amkes me wonder how evil creatures like Reid, Pelosi and Obama would be portrayed in yer average anime.

This is clearly one of the yao guai from Fallout 3 and yes, it must be killed with fire.
My first thought as well. I lost about a month of my life last year playing Fallout 3, and my first death was at the hands of a Yao Guai that sneaked up on me near the Nuka Cola plant. Later in the game I was bemused, later in the game, to see a wasteland trader using a Yao Guai to pull his cart: apparently, they can be (partially) tamed. It was also fun to lure Yao Guais into throw-downs with Deathclaws. (The deathclaws usually won.)

Later in the game I was bemused, later in the game
Did I mention it was later in the game? Because it was later in the game. You know, because it might not have been clear from the context that it was later in the game.

Must have bagged his hobo at dusk last night and got a good nights sleep .
I cannot fathom why I woke up so early this morning. 6:30AM, and bing! Wide-awake and wondering, "What the hell?" I thought my phone had rung or someone was beating on the door, but no -- my body just decided that sleep was for chumps, apparently. And since I didn't go to bed until midnight last night, I'm sure that the inevitable crash will come: probably around 3 or 4 this afternoon.

Just a decade ago it all looked so different. President Bush—in one of history’s great miscalculations—believed that the world stood on the verge of a new American century. In fact, the opposite was the case. The defeat of the Soviet Union flattered only to deceive and mislead. In a world increasingly defined by the rise of the developing countries, most notably China, the United States was, in fact, in relative decline. It took the global financial crisis to begin to convince the U.S. that it could no longer take its global supremacy for granted. This dawning realisation has come desperately late in the day. Even now most of the country remains in denial. Never has a great power been less prepared or equipped to face its own decline.
Fortunately, in Barack Obama the nation has a president that possesses a rare characteristic for that office, humility. He has made it clear from the outset that the U.S. cannot run the world on its own but only in co-operation with others. In Beijing he welcomed ChinaÂ’s rise as a positive and sought a relationship of partnership with it. But as with the US financial crisis, Obama is making it up as he goes along. Like the rest of the ruling elite, he finds himself ambushed by American decline, a situation that his administration was entirely unprepared for. Those who criticised his performance in Beijing as being too weak are not even at the starting line: they refuse to face up to the reality of a fundamental shift in the balance of power with China
America must learn to Bow. @HA

I remember reading somewhere of some guy that was balancing the carburetors on his motorcycle using a manometer with mercury in it. He blipped the engine a little too much on verification, and some of the mercury got sucked into the engine and was burned as part of the air-fuel mixture. Supposedly, he ended up inhaling some of the exhaust fumes and his hair fell out.
