— Ace Anyone got anything?
Regarding tomorrow, if you have a 9/11 themed post, or want to post anything tomorrow, please put it into draft. 9/11 is such an important subject that those posts all have to be read and approved. And as for other topics-- I have to make sure they're appropriate, too. Can't have a silly sex post on 9/11. Just doesn't seem right.

A few days after 9/11 happened, I planted a group of trees.....as my own little sort of memorial.
It felt good to get outside, away from the TV, and get dirty doing something physical out in fresh air.
I planted them out in an open area of our property....in full sun. But there was also no cover there to help the baby trees survive in the sometimes harsh gowing conditions we have here in the midwestern plains.
They have survived tornadoes, straight-line winds, ice storms, droughts and temps ranging from below zero to sweltering 100+ degrees for weeks on end....when other more established trees were uprooted, split or killed by disease.
With very little more than water and a little tree-food every now and then, the baby trees have grown to be big healthy specimens now.
I was just outside looking at them.....my little tribute to the Tragedy that we all shared.

Hmm. There hasn't been a large-scale terrorist attack in this country since that horrible day. Whether that's because of Obama or despite Obama, the past 33 months have been his watch. I'd call that a success, and I'm glad for it.

Brian Williams might have mentioned that when interviewing the Traitor-in-Chief, but was too busy prostrating himself in from of the Anointed One.
I wish someone would run unedited coverage from 9/11/01 at the appropriate time instead of going for all the semi-related sob stories that try to make the day all about feelings and teddy bears and rainbows.
I wish someone would run the footage of Muzzie crowds cheering and throwing candy to each other to celebrate the destruction of the WTC.
Finally, I wish Bloomberg would go away, and allow a Ground Zero ceremony featuring those who were there, those who were involved, and their relatives/survivors instead of trying for a big touchy-feely fest. No Osama Obama, no celebs, but Bush 43 and the firefighters, cops and civilians who pitched in when the shit truly hit the fan.
Tomorrow is their day, and all the crap being spewed by SCoaMF, the media and everyone else who can jump on the bandwagon dishonors those who most deserve our thoughts, appreciation and prayers.
Of course it also allows those who have escaped punishment all along -- such as the Saudis -- to keep on doing so, but that will, sadly, always be so.

The Post Office can't close. From what I can tell, their union contract will not let workers be laid off. Well, I'm thinking that if they are that militant against layoffs, well then complete firings have to be out of the question.
So the Post Office has to live on. To keep their employees employed, and the pay their retirees pensions.
Of course, stamps will be $5 each, but that's a small price to pay for keeping union people employed.

I'll never forgive the NYC s-i-l who immediately e-mailed everyone while the dust was still settling that we needed to "understand why 'they' hate us." Just watched the History Channel documentary "Hotel at Ground Zero" which was about the people in the Marriott at the World Trade Center and how they escaped. What struck me was one man who was in his room on the 19th floor who thought he'd just go about his day, that what was happening in WTC 1 and 2 wouldn't affect him, the firefighters would go put out the fires and it would be fine. He was trapped in the building and was rescued by firefighters who were making their way down from the gym on the top floor of the hotel, luckily they were in the stairwell of the reinforced part of the hotel (reinforced after the 93 bombing damaged that part of the hotel).

Mitt Romney didn’t wait long to begin his attack on Rick Perry over Social Security—his campaign is doing door-to-door distribution of a flier attacking Perry on the issue.
The flier, which a campagn spokesman said is being left at the doors of Florida GOP primary voters, portrays the GOP primary as a two-candidate race—“Two candidates. Only one will protect what’s important to you,” is the headline.
Of those two, it says, Perry is “reckless and wrong on Social Security.” The bold-face tagline: “Rick Perry: How can we trust anyone who wants to kill Social Security?”
Romney, it says, favors “entitlement reform,” but “wants to save Social Security.”

I saw this screenshot on Lileks blog a year after Flight 93 passengers and crew made sure that plane didn't reach its primary target. Lileks had captioned it: Here was one moment when I just felt naked and dead
I startled a little because that was that was the same moment for me, the moment I felt real, sick fear instead of horror and shock.
And then the passengers and crew of Flight 93 saved us. They fought. They went down fighting to save us. They saved ME.
Their decision to stand and fight made me remember to get up, to stand and to fight and not crumple up in fear or with a broken heart. They turned the nadir of my spirit into hope and resolve.
Until I can remember nothing, I will remember their heroism, and thank them for it every day.

Illinois taxpayers and businesses would benefit from billions of dollars in investment and thousands of new jobs under President Barack ObamaÂ’s proposed jobs plan, Democratic lawmakers said Friday.
Republicans said they still need to see more details, including how it would be paid for.
The Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee released an analysis saying Obama’s American Jobs Act would invest $4.5 million in Illinois transit and building projects and provide money for teachers, police and firefighters — saving or creating up to 50,000 jobs. It also said 260,000 Illinois businesses would receive a payroll tax cut, while cuts to workers’ payroll taxes would save a typical Illinois household about $1,640.
Note all the nifty buzzwords like invest, investment, save or create, etc. The SCoaMF's crotch got a good lathering this day, you bet.

I think that reaction is pretty common because so many of us do not feel that what needs to be done has been definitively done:
1. Recognize and speak out about the evils of violent islamofascist ideology
2. Secure our borders including do not allow radicalized into this nation
3. Secure our future by creating energy resources here - real resources not fantasy resources (drill, refine, nuclear plants - not wind and unicorn farts)
4. Deal definitively with a nuclear Iran
And so on. I feel as vulnerable today as on September 12 - maybe more so because I do not think our current administration has our best interests at heart, or has the wisdom to see threats and the maturity to deal with them.

I can't fathom the horror yet I try to put myself in their place mentally. It humbles me and reminds me of the good in people to overcome the very bad in others. My heart, thoughts and prayers goes to those involved even in the slightest way.

Well, we ended up getting in to see him nearly 30 minutes late. He had called his dad in New York who described what was going on. By the time we left, the second plane had hit.
I pulled up to the school and saw teachers fighting back tears and kids looking confused. D'oh Boy never cried, he just said, "When I grow up I want to be a soldier and kill those bad guys." He was eleven then, and now ten years later he's training to do just that.

9/11 was my the horrible and violent beggining into my interests in politics. I thought of myself a Dem as a young 7th grader then but 9/11 made me actually look into stuff. I've discovered since what I believe and fight for. Too bad it had to be something so violent and tragic to start the path for me.

It was a typical shitty day at work for me. The gal in the office next to me (who was a real ditz) popped her head in my office and said turn on your radio. Something bad has happened. I did. I called me husband who ALWAYS had Fox News on but for some reason that morning didn't. He turned it on and not two minutes later he saw the second plane hit. We stayed on the phone with each other for 2 hours. I was crying. I knew everything had changed forever.

I pulled up to the school and saw teachers fighting back tears and kids looking confused. D'oh Boy never cried, he just said, "When I grow up I want to be a soldier and kill those bad guys." He was eleven then, and now ten years later he's training to do just that.
God bless him Jane. and you!! He fights the good fight.

When I came home from dropping the boy off at school, I found him red-faced, and knew he had been crying......something I've only seen him do once before, when I miscarried our second child.
He told me a month ago something I never knew. That he became so depressed afterwards he saw a doctor for it. He's the most positive, upbeat, glass half-full man I know. I was totally surprised.

#139, Hey, now!
Just for that remark, I'm going to elaborate: I was in the room at Hospice with my mom. I left to get a soda and passed the TV room where my sister and her boyfriend were saying something about a plane crashing into a building. I glanced at the TV and honestly thought they were just watching a movie and waved it off. I didn't find out until a few hours later, after I'd gone back to the house to eat, what had happened.

it may have been when he lectured us not to go lynch the nearest non-American native from the region?
Perhaps when it was when they were ruminating openly about censoring us from the stark reality that the people faced and their choice to die rather than burn?
There is a special place in hell for whatever shitheel politicized the news to the degree that showing citizens dying for the sin of our lack of readiness, allowing the footage of our troops being shot and lynched to death and now again an embargo on our troops dying but now as if when we are told...."go clean a beach or something...happy 9/11!" we get "allowed" to see what happened...
I knew what happened I saw it before Daddy Media took it away.

On 9/11 I was in 7th grade. I knew the President was in the state but I wasn't too into politics much those days. I thought I was a Dem cause everyone said Dems protect the poor. But still I was just a 7th grader thinking about the next episode of DragonBall Z for that day. My Homeroom teacher heard something happen so she turned it on. At 1st we thought it was some freak Plane accident. Then we realized it was TWO planes that hit. We realized it was terrorism.
Various teachers throughout the day dealt with the situation differently. Some teachers tried to act like it never happened to not scare the kids. Some had us watch the coverage. My Giography Teacher said We needed to watch this for perspective and History. He talked about how he had seen on TV the Chellenger disaster and the media coverage on it.
Kids were slowly taken by their parents out of class. My Mom picked me up after school and told me and my brother that she didn;t take us out because it would only let the terrorists win. That night I watched President Bush's speech. Suddenly this evil Republican didn;t seem so evil. My mom who cursed him for his 2000 win started changing her mind about him right there.
I knew something big had happen. But it never hit me how big until I heard a man on the TV crying about a friend who was in the tower when it crashed down. I couldn't be strong then. I fell asleep crying.
From there my slow change into a change in my political leanings began. Little did I know that in 10 years we would elect a guy who was associated w/ terrorists as President. That we would care about rights for these monsters who did this even though they wern't citizens. That the man who guided the nation that day would leave hated and reviled by many and came 1 state away from losing re-election. They say we should never forget 9/11; I'd argue we, as a country, did a while ago.

Just happened to be reading Dick Cheney's book this weekend. Today I got to the part about 9/11. Powerful stuff as told in the Vice President's understated tone. As I type this, Michagan played God Bless America and Notre Dame played the Star-Spangled Banner after the announcer made the 9/11 announcement at the start. Flags in the stands. Even had a fly-over. Although it was a C-47 I think. What's up with that?
OT - Hey rdbrewer, I watched the dog learns to howl video in the sidebar. Stuck around to read a few comments. One of them was "This video was posted in 2009. Why is everybody commenting now?" Looks like the Moron Nation showed up.

The plan was to tour the US Capitol building. I'd lived no further than Richmond most of my life, visiting DC often enough, but the 10 yo and I had never taken the tour and this was to be the day, and my husband had time enough to come with us.
I'd actually heard the news about a plane hitting the trade center on the radio alarm. I was thinking "litle biplane and guy with a heart attack" scale attack; NPR said it was a little plane ( I actually asked my husband to turn it off!) I was sure New York would manage and it would be big news but only in comparison to the summer of no news that had preceded. I was focused on our big plans.
While I got kid and self ready, Hubs ran a quick errand to pick up some sundries, cat food I think, and then we would be on our way. Only, the telephone rang when he was halfway to the store. He told me the nations under attack, a second plane had struck the other tower, to turn on the news.
We stood gawp-mouthed in front of the television for a while. For some reason I had the notion that one of the smoking towers was ....softening? It looked like is was part liquid. And then OMG. down, down down it went.
I saw my husband cry tears when my son was born. This was the other time.

Elected officials and party leaders at all levels said their worries have intensified as the economy has displayed new signs of weakness. They said the likelihood of a highly competitive 2012 race is increasing as the Republican field, once dismissed by many Democrats as too inexperienced and conservative to pose a serious threat, has started narrowing to two leading candidates, Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, who have executive experience and messages built around job creation.
And in a campaign cycle in which Democrats had entertained hopes of reversing losses from last yearÂ’s midterm elections, some in the party fear that Mr. ObamaÂ’s troubles could reverberate down the ballot into Congressional, state and local races.

It was just another day of work for me until my wife's friend called us early. I think about 6 am our time and said turn on the news. I remember the first tower burning and the newsies saying a small plane had hit the tower. When I got to work we all huddled around the small t.v. in the lunch room and saw the second plane hit and I knew it wasn't an accident and it sure as hell wasn't a small plane.
To say it was surreal at the time is an understatement. I think like all Amercians I never thought this would happen in our country.

by the time I was in 9th grade it really started to hit me all the political correctness around the situation. The 04 election was in full gear and teachers were going at it over who'd win the election and I watched as people claimed the terrorists deserved rights and that we desreved 9/11. It got real ugly that year and I remember that school year being a HUGE eye opener as to how the schools were in-line with the media which I was discovering were bias towards the left.
I'm also sad to say a lot of people who lived through 9/11 at my age turned against me and friendships were lost because they wanted to join the cool crowd and demand justice for rights and no war, jumping into the Kerry bandwagon. On election day, the Kerry shirts were out in full force amongst students and they reviled me because I made a makeshift Bush sticker on my shirt. The next day I rubbed the Bush win in their faces all day long.
But basically I'd say by 9th grade I started seeing the change and political correctness over the situation. I was stunned by how quick it felt people forgot.

What makes President Obama’s executive passivity so interesting is that it seems to be a symptom not of policy uncertainty, but of personal narcissism. The president is free to delegate the tasks of the president because he’s already done the important job of simply showing up. It’s the same impulse that leads him to make all sorts of claims about the singularity of his tenure. For instance, at an August 15 town hall event in Minnesota, he boasted that after his administration took control of General Motors and Chrysler, the two companies posted profits for the “first time in decades,” even though both companies were profitable as recently as 2004…
Bill ClintonÂ’s vanity was that he wished he could have been at the center of a world historical event. Barack ObamaÂ’s vanity is that he believes he is a world historical event. And the greatness of his being dwarfs any necessity to establish greatness through action. ThatÂ’s why, despite his passivity as president, weÂ’re likely to see a much more vigorous Obama in the coming months as he switches from governing to campaigning. However ambivalent he may be about leading the country, arguing for the indispensability of Barack Obama is the one project that has always commanded his full attention.

The next morning, for whatever reason, I woke up late. My mom usually had Fox News on, but she was getting ready for work and left the tv off that day. I jumped on the computer and got a message from a friend.
"Have you seen what's going on?"
"No, what?"
"Somebody's blown up the WTC and the Pentagon."
I turned the tv on. It was probably on USA, but it didn't matter because by that point every channel was showing the same thing. It was probably a minute or two after the first tower fell, but there was so much smoke and dust that I didn't realize it until they played the replay.
My brother was in the room and we both called for our mom. She yelled back that she was busy getting ready. We yelled at her to get in the living room and watch the tv. She finally decided it was important and came down the hall. Her reaction was what I remember clearest of all:
"Those motherfuckers!"

Having the courage to swim against the tide at a young age with regards to peer pressure is a fine quality and one I sought amongst my peers back when I was that young, a bit further back i assure you than 2003.
The thing about all of the efforts of our "leaders" to soften and control our emotions is that the only way they will abate and allow us to be healthy is to cope and let them be expressed so long as we are not hurting our fellow citizens.

Her body was never recovered.
We had several first responders from here leave for NYC immediately. Two of them took their rescue dog. They were on the pile for two weeks when the dog slipped and was being hung by its leash. They had to let it go and it fell two stories, breaking ribs. They returned to Savannah and the dog died a couple of years later.
Also, a couple of local restaurants shut down and set up shop to feed the workers on the site for free.
And yes, it chaps my ass when a certain princess says it was a NY thing and didn't affect the rest of us.

She said "no".
I hung up with the customer and we all took off for operations where we have a t.v. to keep track of weather conditions. As soon as we rounded the corner we saw that everything had come to a halt. We watched for a moment and then headed back to our desks to clear the queue. That's when the second plane hit. I was on the phone with a co-worker who was freaking out about the fact that other of our co-workers were supposed to be at the towers for a meeting that day. Then the tower fell. (our guys were okay)
I ran back to operations and saw grown men crying.
There were no questions...no demands...all but the critical staff simply left.
My daughter was attending a magnet school that was the central school for ESL and I worried what might take place when a bunch of hormone laden teen boys got wind of it. I picked her up and we spent the day glued to the t.v. (I'll tell you about the pissy secretary to the dean another time).
A couple of days later we were back at work when someone dropped a suspicious looking package next to our building. So....down 27 flights of stairs we went while the bomb squad did their duty...with the towers in our minds the whole way down. One woman bitched about taking the stairs and I lost it.
Thank God it isn't 105 flights! And thank God that there are stairs to take!
That's my story.

I have no clue if that was ever actually going to be the case. I dumped all my work stuff out and put my 1911 .45, 500 rounds of ammo and filled the rest of the bag up with MRE's and bottled water from my disaster tub. Then I put the disaster tub and more water in the back of my jeep and headed for work.

one can make the argument that our system requires a minimal level of partisan oversight even when the whole is at risk, but sadly I fear that what motivated the anger from the minority party at the time was not based on safeguarding the efficiency and clarity of our response but terror that they would be held to account for their party's actions against our intell community and be out of power for a decade.
The anger, while valid and a useful tool is a dangerous acid and should be used only when needed for clarity of purpose and resolve.....

not being precocious or trying to seem "big" I wrote something last night that helped a few people who were pre grieving...
The tragedy we all witnessed and the abyss we all looked into that week and dark Tuesday itself and at times since the media "safeguard the muslim world from US rage" it may almost seem the images of the heroism and loss that morning and into the night are hazy and could possibly sometimes we fear fade away.
They will not fade, and when needed they will focus. They will never be forgotten. Their killers will never be forgiven.
9/11 is not a day for service to some nebulous idea of a community that is everyday, it is a day for reflection, reverence, and nation.
Never forget they are who they are, we are who we are and they will meet us.
Times are tough, we're tougher.

“Why would they want to relive that day? I certainly don’t want to relive that day,” asked the imbecile principal. Organizers found one politician and one bureaucrat with empathy, common sense, balls and an actual interest in serving citizens, so the imbecile is put in his place.
I have a ritual for 9/11, which I had to skip last year. I'll be walking down Seventh Avenue from Midtown, so two hours to contemplate the hole in the sky and all that was lost. Walking back up Eighth, retracing my walk home that day (subways were shut down), so two hours to contemplate the future, and what's still left. No looking back.
If the times align, I'll probably visit Pamela Geller's event. Mainly to check out the rumors of a nice rack.

The only time prior that I had ever thought there was going to be a war was the situation with Korea in the late 90s. Death and destruction was also seemed like something that happened to other people. This was so obviously deliberate and my heart just hurt for my country and those who had lost their lives.
It was also unsettling because people knew that there was going to be a war but not how we would fight it. My history teacher told us the next day that our generation would be tasked with a call to serve, and I am so thankful to all those who have placed their lives in harm's way so that we may be free.

Another story that struck me was about the two best friends who had left for a girls' vacation in L.A., one with her little girl in tow, and took different planes because the first was booked up. Each took a plane that hit the tower where, coincidentally, one of their brothers was employed.
It boggles the mind.

Ding, ding. Suddenly I remember that, now you mention it.
Some of the people I worked with were a bit sneering about W not returning to DC immediately. I was astonished that they didn't get it that the first order of business was to keep the president safe, no matter who occupied that office. When I asked what they thought he could do from the WH that he couldn't do from AF1, they could only say 'he should be in DC!' I didn't say f*ck you to them but I wanted to.

I have a responsibility as a conservative that grew up poor for part of my childhood to do my part to help where and when I can. What angers the left is that rather than have them take from my purse through coercion and have my "donation" used under their oversight by donation I offer more efficient aid under my oversight. They enjoy power Orwell knew precisely what he was saying about the boot and the face.

Reverend Wright SEPT. 16, 2001:
“I heard Ambassador (Edward) Peck on an interview yesterday, did anybody else see him or hear him? He was on Fox News. This is a White man, and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. Did you see him, John? A White man. He pointed out, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true, that America’s chickens are coming home to roost.
“We took this country by terror away from the Sioux, the Apache, the Iroquois, the Comanche, the Arapaho, the Navajo. Terrorism. We took Africans from their country to build our way of ease and kept them enslaved and living in fear. Terrorism. We bombed Grenada and killed innocent civilians, babies, non-military personnel; we bombed the Black civilian community of Panama, with Stealth bombers, and killed unarmed teenagers and toddlers, pregnant mothers and hard-working fathers. We’ve bombed (Muammar) Gadhafi’s home and killed his child.
“Blessed are they who bash your children’s heads against the rocks. We bombed Iraq; we killed unarmed civilians trying to make a living. We bombed a plant in Sudan to pay back an attack on our embassy. Killed hundreds of hard-working people, mothers and fathers who left home to go that day, not knowing that they would never get back home.
“We’ve bombed Hiroshima, we’ve bombed Nagasaki, we’ve nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye. Kids playing in the playground, mothers picking up children after school, civilians not soldiers, people just trying to make it day by day.
“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans, and now we are indignant. Because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back into our own front yards.
“America’s chickens are coming home to roost. Violence begets violence. Hatred begets hatred and terrorism begets terrorism. A White ambassador said that, y’all, not a Black militant. Not a reverend who preaches about racism.

I was driving to another facility to pick up some equipment for a project when I heard the news about a plane hitting the WTC. Being a bit paranoid, I worried about a secondary explosion. Then I heard about the second plane at the second tower. At that point, my concern level went off scale.
My
daughter was working as a contractor based in the Pentagon. When I heard
about the crash there, I went home to sit with my wife as we tried to
contact my daughter. After what seemed like an interminable wait, my
son called from Florida to say that she had gotten through to him
(local cell calls were screwed up big time but somehow she was able to call out to Florida) and was all right.
Needless to say we said a prayer for her and all the others involved. We did not actually see her or hear from her until about 5:00 PM when she was able to stop by and assure us that she was all right.
We later found out that she had taken a short cut to a meeting and had walked through the impact corridor less than ten minutes before the plane hit.
One tale she told was that people were running away from the Pentagon after the impact, until someone shouted “We need to help those people in there!”. The majority of the crowd turned around and started running back towards the Pentagon to help.
I still thank God every day that she was uninjured, but ever since 9/11, I hate those muz bastards with a hate that will never cease.
I
will never forget that evil day, and I will never forgive the muz and
their sympathizers both foreign and domestic for their despicable and continuing cowardice, the deaths they so willingly chose to end, and the families they damaged by their inhuman actions

I was at work at undisclosed location and it was a beautiful day. If it wasn't for work, I would've been golfing. I was sitting at my desk when I noticed nobody was around. I finally found most of the office had congregated in front of the lone office TV. I saw one of the Twin Towers on fire and was told a plane ran into it. I asked if it was an accident and was told no. I looked back up at the TV and the second plane hit. I went back to the office, grabbed my stuff, and got ready to split. My coworker brought a second TV in and just as she turned it on, it showed the Pentagon on fire. 5 seconds later the announcement came down to evacuate. I started heading to the Metro wondering if it was even open. If not, its a long walk back home (11 miles +/-). It was open and eventually I got on the train as DC had emptied out and the trains were full. The train obviously didn't stop a the Pentagon. In fact the first stop was Crystal City I think. Anyway, when you get above ground finally (at RR National Aprt) you could see the smoke billowing up in the air. You can't see the Pentagon from that spot, but you could see the smoke. I finally got home, popped open a beer, call the folks and told them I'm fine. It took a while to get hold of my sister (She works in Rossylin VA. She can see the Pentagon from her office). She was in an utter panic. She had seen the plane go by her office. She was worried about her husband (whom she was picking up somewhere in Arlington) and me because she wasn't sure where I was. Thats when I nearly lost it. Up until then I was steady. I tried to watch the news but I was spent. So I had a few beers and sat on the balcony and watched the day pass by.
A bad day.

251 Did he not come home until the next day, Jane? I thought he came back on the night of 9/11, but now I'm not sure.

----------
President Bush returned to DC in the afternoon, on 09/11/01....and gave a speech that night from the oval office.

Someone said upthread that they will give Obama a temporary 'pass' for tomorrow because we haven't had another large scale attack here on US soil since 9/11.
I think that is more due to the well-oiled machinery that Bush put in place, and due to our intreped warriors who watch over us.....than anything that the SCofMF has done.
So I am not giving the sob a pass on a damn thing.
The only reason he has not sabotaged our military any more than he has.....is because he wants to get reelected..... His campaign started the minute he was sworn in.
If Barry is allowed to get a second term.......then we will see the real horrors that he has had in store for us all along.
Turning 9/11 into a "national day of service" is Obama's way of preying on this day to elevate his leftist propaganda..... The man has no respect for this country, evidenced by his agenda to 'fundamentally change it'.

A heartfelt and very non-ironic "USA, USA, USA" from this guy north of the 49th parallel
Flight 93 was on TV - at the end I wanted to join your army, even though I'm old and useless!
