— Open Blog Welcome to another edition of Cat
And yes tonight truly is Caturday night. Earlier this afternoon I had to retrieve my parents' kitteh out from under the house where she's been holed up for the last several sub-freezing days. Well anyway I succeeded but at the cost of a chewed up, bloody thumb. So I'm off to the urgent care to get tetanus, antibiotic shots, and (crossing fingers) some of the good painkillers. Good times, good times. So anyway I may or may not check in tonight so play nicely among yourselves.

Emma Peel's name comes from the writers trying to define her character. They wanted someone with "man appeal".
M-appeal.

Yes, Sassy, they are ultra comfy. My house is at that weird temp where if I go any higher it will be too warm; yet it's too cold right now so I'm wearing a scarf too. Weird, I know. I do it all the time.

It DOES and it HAS worked with Buffalo. The only down side to Buffalo, is the lack of fat. You have to cook it at a lower temperature for less time TOO!
But it is very healthy, very tasty and the lack of fat means you can season it with more of the seasonings that you prefer. Salt too.
I know a Buffalo rancher and I love Buffalo.

Buffalo makes a mean Wellington, but it makes a BIG wellington. Antelope backstraps are about the perfect size. There's a sweetness to the meat that also lends itself to such rich applications as a Welli.

I'm not clicking on any links here for awhile.
Sassy already knows this story but I got on helluva virus on my work pc on Thursday morning. I'm pretty sure it was from here as that was the only browser I had up and Vic had commented about getting the same one.
I don't how fucked my pc is. I had to call the IT people in to look at it. Needless to say it wasn't the best day - esp right before the holiday.
It was for something called "antivirus live". It will fuck your pc up--big time. It works as an anti-virus but it just wants you to put in your credit card info. I couldn't open anything w/out it telling me to subscribe as my files were infected.

I love Mythbusters too. And I loved a show that used to be on called Junkyard Wars.
IÂ’m not very much into the Food Network, I confess. But I did notice while I was visiting family that it was the one station that all of us, including my son, were willing to sit and watch together. We mocked GiadaÂ’s fancy party mercilessly (while my brothers-in-law ogled her low cut dress) and we moaned with hunger over InaÂ’s seafood stew.

Last week, we drove up to Santa Fe and through Socorro, New Mexico, where New Mexico Tech is located. That's where "Mythbusters" goes to blow up stuff with their biggest explosions - NMT has a great explosives department.
She got all excited and we went on campus, to the campus bookstore, where they had a number of textbooks about explosives. I demurred, imagining what one of those in my carry-on luggage would look like to someone with the TSA.
After yesterday, it looks like I guessed right..

Oh man, that happened to me too. Got bit by my aunts cat on the webbing between between my thumb and finger. It didn't look bad, so i just washed my hands and forgot about it. Woke up in the middle of the night with my hand throbbing in pain, looked at it and it was swollen up like a balloon and i couldn't move it at all. Had to go on antibiotics for a week and soak my hand in iodine twice a day.

Well, I met an old friend from HS. and his wife. nice lady. hot. she knows some professional ladies. lol. NOT what I would have thought. but i've been into the Long Island Ice Tea tonight. but i know she's into me, and wants me to visit her, and a couple of her friends.
Amazing what happens once I am seperated. wondering what else I've missed.

There's a hell of a lot there.I've been to the Trinity site several times, and I practically memorized the book. He was in close communication with Hans Bethe for years, and Bethe was able to simplify the complex nuclear chemistry and physics enough to be somewhat clear to the average reader.
I still constantly quote I. I. Rabi and Wolfgang Pauli from that book.

I got married late, and don't think that I would have the energy to go through a divorce. I hate dating divorced women, because of all the pent-up bitterness, but they told me that divorced men were worse. They constantly whined like sick cats about their exes, I was told.
I partied and shacked-up for years, and got most all of that out of me, thankfully.

Well, if I may impolitely stick my two cents in, choose carefully. You're around educated intelligent people - the same kind of people you came from, and good families matter for stability. I see a lot of romantic shit on this board about Marines, etc but find someone with a strong education and a good work ethic and not some fricking dumbass who'll be some fat slob in ten years. Background counts, culture counts, I've been very lucky.

Especially since it usually makes you feel better about your "family." Kind of like watching Jerry Springer, but you have to feel bad for these kids that never had a chance.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
I live on a lovely street. With the exception of the drunken slob living caddy-corner from my house. He was banging on my front door and then two other neighbor's doors. His mother, whom he lives with (of course) was outside trying to get him inside. Nice, your elderly mother has to come out in 30 degree weather to drag your drunk fat fuck assback inside the house. Loser.
Luckily my neighbor three houses down is a retired cop. He knows I'm living alone so he checks in on me and I have his number. That came in handy tonight.
I was having such a lovely evening. so much for my buzz.

Some people are just old-fashioned that way. In the case of grandma and her bf their not getting married may have something to do with his spoiled brat daughter throwing a hissy fit about the whole thing as it is. Those of us who are more mature aren't about to knock it; they've only known each other for about 60 years, so it's not like they just met on the internet or something.

He asks me out everytime I see him. (which he does with another woman on our street who's married!) . I started out being very polite to him and now it's deterioated to "you need to get the hell out of my face". I've had my cop neighbor talk to him. He's just a drunk and an overall menace.

wtr,
Single life gets more appealing as you get older. I nearly married a divorcee when I was in my late 30's. When we got engaged, it was as though I dated Jekyl and got engaged to Hyde. Whew! I'm just glad she showed that side before we got married. twenty years later I'm still single and lovin' it.

The trouble is when they hybridize on your FB page and suddenly, there is a war going on between one set of friends/family members and another.
It happened on my wife's Facebook page with my dumb lib cousin in Houston and my wife's conservaitve physician cousin in Dallas, over Obamacare. Very virulent and poisonous. Not good for a family.
My wife is pulling out of Facebook because of that.

Moral of the video: Don't store up bad karma by being mean to kittehs.
Todler-- think of the bad karma your ex is storing up. Hope a little humor helps.

A bunch of us have had to learn that. In the case of long-gone first wife, her parents and grandparents were still married but everything else about that family was a complete grease fire. And she was a needy psycho to boot. I wish Dr. Laura had been around in the early 90s; I might have figured that stuff out sooner.

Speaking of FB, I follow Michael Yon. He sends good updates on the situation in Afghanistan almost every night.
Probably that it is ridiculously unorganized. I know the FOB that my husband is going to in March is not ready for the influx of troop coming in due to the surge. Their calling the next year "the wild west."

Strangely not a lot about Obamacare lately. I didn't see any cheering. What's interesting is seeing the other FB friends you have that post something and THEIR lib friends jump into the discussion.
I try to avoid getting too political on my page since potential employers might see it and get the idea I'm some sort of shit stirrer.
One annoyance I find now is one on the right who joins just about every group going and sends out invites to them.

UT/Austin is quite strict with language requirements. If you graduated HS with a language, you may have to take up to 5 semesters in that same language for a BA. I got a BS, so I would have had to take 4 semesters of French - a language that I sucked in (5, if I went for a BA). So I took 3 semesters of Russian and German.
It wasn't fun, but I'm glad that I did it. I'm going a bit Scandi these days, and am studying Norwegian on my own.

The Commanding General of RC-South will move 5/2 SBCT HQ from Kandahar to another location, dangerously inhibiting Stryker combat and intelligence operations for several months. (About 50% of remaining tour.) This is like watching the Dallas Cowboys in the Super Bowl, only to see the coaches snatched from t...he game to re-arrange the locker room. HQ will be in disarray.

As a rule, it's best to avoid debates or arguments on posts that aren't yours as you don't know the relationship. On my own I let it ride unless it gets nasty or personal. I haven't had any big problems with it so far, but I delete any nasty comments no matter who made them.
The only time I stepped in was when one of our moronettes on FB was viciously insulted by her lefty gay brother. I interjected that his gayness didn't entitle him to be a total jerk. The guy was really off the wall, just goes to show you can pick your friends but not your family.

I know that James Joyce learned Norwegian to read Ibsen, and I work in areas with lots of Norwegians, and want to be able to read some of the Amundsen and Nansen literature, so I started to learn Norwegian recently. It's quite similar to German, of course, but more English-like in many ways. And the pronouncuation is a difficult for me.
I guess with Norwegian literature, there's Ibsen, Hamsun and not a whole lot else.

And each and every commenter there is dismissing Frum, an opponent of ObamaCare, as an idiot. Frum's point is that the GOP Senators who'd make such a vote calling it unconstitutional are pandering to their (often stupid, even though I agree with them on the actual underlying issues) base. So that isn't a plan.
A better plan would be to continue working to defeat the bill, democratically. 'Cause it is a real "game change" as Mark Steyn, another intelligent former Canadian, points out.
Oh, and that bedbug detector is a great idea. Now if only someone would invent a portable crab detector. Condoms don't do shit against those.

The bill does violate the constitution on a number of issues, including due process and the way that it forces people at the Federal level to buy the insurance versus the way that Medicare is managed. Federal laws cannot be "broken down" geographically. Frum obviously knows precisely dick about the US constitution and is a fucking idiot overall.

Even if they do, it will be limited to minor grounds and the majority of the bill will stand, and will transform American society in statist ways. It will consume so much of your budget that you'll find it difficult to manage much more than European levels of military preparedness, for example.
Which is just fine with Obama and his leftist ilk.

The bill will not stand, since it is a pack of unconstitutional compromises.
As one simple example, can you imagine the fallout if the majority of Americans who refuse to pay for abortions are then forced to after having their Senators lie to them? The bill will be tied up in District and Appeals courts for years. The Insurance industry will challenge it left and right, as will the state attorney generals. It will be a Mongolian Clusterfuck.
Remember, a relatively minor due process glitch lost Al Gore the Presidency. This bill has dozens of them, and it will barely get passed in the House.

According to the family members, Mutallab has been uncomfortable with the boy's extreme religious views and had six months ago reported his activities to United States' Embassy, Abuja and Nigerian security agencies. "The older Mutallab was said to be devastated on hearing the news of Abdul Farouk's attempted bombing and arrest. A source close to him said he was surprised that after his reports to the US authorities, the young man was allowed to travel to the United States.

Let me explain something: here, you can do both at the same time.
You can defeat the bill politically through the courts by stripping it apart. And the amount of anger from the states is always something that the courts take seriously.
There is not a damn thing that we can do politically until the 2010 elections. But stripping the law will destroy it both politically and legally, long before those elections. Delegitimizong it and educating the public, who already are opposed to it, will be reflected in the 2010 elections.
Frum is a spectacularily ignorant dunce. The two best-known Canadian RINOs, Brooks and Frum, are so pathetically misinformed on American conservatism that their opinions are useless.

Way off. I bought an HP calculator in late 1973 for $1000. Damn near broke me... It had the calculating power of a $9.99 TI-30.
Beat the shit out of my K&E slide rule, however..

I stand corrected. You techies fark me every time. No shite? A thousand bucks? I think I used a TI-32? for my stats class. Does that sound right?

They still sell those TI-32's. I later used the TI-58's in the late 70's, which were big and fat, with red LEDs and had to be charged a lot. They cost $100-120, which was still not cheap back then. My tuition at UT/Austin was only $400/ semester.
My TI-58's got so warm, I used to heat my hands up on them.
HPs had a gold motherboard and a strange way to enter the data. I found the TI's much more intuitive and still prefer them. They're cheap these days, but made like shit.

However, your modern courts don't tend to interpret things in line with the tenets of American conservatism, now do they?

The first commercially easily available Laser printer was the original Apple Laserwriter in 1985. It was 300 dpi black and white and about the size of a Smart Car. I had use of one, and it cost, I believe, around $4000.
With the humongous Laserwriter, original Aldus Pagemaker and a small Mac SE, you had your own desktop publishing revolution right on your desk.

Please don't feel that way. If you didn't charge for gas to the post office, ingredients, packing and mailing supplies and finally the cost of postage (and I hope a little extra for yourself) then people will take advantage of you and you will go broke doing nice things for people.
Been there, done that, ain't no fun.

Rummy,
I might be off on my TI-#. I took stats in '98 or '99, so it may have been a TI-Ninety something. Hell, I can't remember. I sold the damn thing to another student after I was done with the class. I haven't used anything I learned in that class since I took it. But I did like the course.
My memory grows foggier as I progress through this thread. It could be due to the fact that I just opened my fourth 24 ounce can of SR 211 (a gutter-level heavy lager that is 8.1 % alcohol, but tastes wonderful to me) or it could be the fault of the Boooosh administration. I'll check with MSNBC and let you know later.

They were beautiful and solid. I never liked the way you had to enter data, however, where the operation came after the numbers, if I remember correctly.
TI's were simple and stupid, like me. I was using them for engineering and geophysics courses, and I took two to every test, in case one ran out of juice or failed.
On my old TI-58, which had a card reader, we had some games that we could play, like "Lunar Lander". Remember, this was two years before "Asteroids" and four years before Pac-Man.

Good Morning, folks.
Burt Prelutsky @ Breitbart's Big Hollywood:
Frankly, I don’t know what it is about California, but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I’m not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we’re number one. There’s no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on “Macbeth”.
The three of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of speech. You donÂ’t know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words.
