— Open Blog Hello, hello all M&Ms. Welcome to your weekly Saturday night ONT.
Programming note - I'll be traveling again this week so the ONT may not go up until 10:30PM EST for a while. So hold off for a bit on the angry mobs search parties.
Four Lions: a Jihadi comedy
Here's a scene from an upcoming mockumentary by British satirist Chris Morris that follows a group of hapless UK Jihadi wannabes. If he has the balls to go all the way with this, it could be really funny.
And yeah I just noticed that ArthurK had posted this in the sidebar earlier. Oh well I guess double posting is part of the moron way.
For the moronettes. And yeah unauthorized reorganization of the cave and matching outfits are pretty annoying, but I wouldn't consider them dealbreakers.
HeLa Cells Still Aiding Researchers Today
Henrietta Lacks died in 1951 but her cancer cells are immortal, literally and figuratively.
Genius: Single serving pie in jar
Just enough and no one get cheated out of their fair share of crust.

British Scientists: The G-spot doesn't exist, French Scientists: Au contraire it certainly does
And the Frenchies add that the Brits are all a bunch of women-hating totalitarians.
The LOL-cat Family Tree
I can has history?

Miss Student Russia 2010
For you enjoyment. And with more interesting costumes than usual.
The Yahoo AoSHQ group. Bla bla bla.

Women always suggest that when they move out, the dishes pile up in the sink, the socks and underware are thrown about the floor, the coffee table is loaded with beer cans and Chinese take out cartons, and the toilet seat hasn't been lifted since the day she left.
All untrue, as the sloppy bastard moved to his mother's so he could eat.

My hs was more left the Berkeley. Seriously. It got so bad that they had to tone down the program the year after my class because parents were complaining. Our school was nicknamed Bi High because so many girls went lesbian after 11th grade due to the anti-patriarchy bullshit. The bad kind of lesbians, morons.

Zinn's influence on the kids of today (including the POTUS and many kids from his generation, it would seem--I don't know when Zinn's book came out), is one clear reason why schools are far more influential than running to be the Republican dogcatcher or Libertarian precinct captain or whatever stupid bullshit Gary North is peddling over in the "Advice for Sarah Palin" thread.

I read that bit about the Frogs researching the G spot. Found this gem:
Gynaecologist Odile Buisson went further, saying the British character was responsible for a 'totalitarian' attitude. She said: 'I don't want to stigmatise at all but I think the Protestant, liberal, Anglo-Saxon character means you are very pragmatic.
'There has to be a cause for everything, a gene for everything. It's totalitarian'.
What kind of lunatic says things like this? Must be a damn Leftist - only such a person would see simply cause-and-effect as a form of oppression. Next we'll be hearing about the totalitarianism of gravity and the injustice of the laws of thermodynamics.
We should have worked out a deal where the Germans had to keep France at the end of WW2. They're a bunch of idiots.

The "patriarchy" is nothing but a structure - the only women who can't do well in a patriarchal society are the stupid ones who can't figure out how a man's brain works and how to take advantage. (Like ugly, stupid, leftist women.) In some Latin American cultures they are quite "macho" and patriarchal, but the women get their way by understanding how to control what the men want and their means of getting it. The man may be the head of the family, etc, but the woman turns the head. Few things make a man as happy and content as a good woman who knows how to trick him into thinking he's in charge.

good for low altitude ( or ill-suited for high altitude, whichever you prefer).

I'm not an expert, but from what I hear it's becoming a lost art. My uncle has a woman friend, ethnic Chinese but formerly American, living in China. She claims to hate the men there, because they're all wussies - hen-pecked into submission by their domineering mates. Apparently their rarity gives Chinese women a huge amount of power - men are easily replaced and have nothing to bargain with. So they just take the abuse and live with it. She pines constantly for strong willed American men.
Of course, I think she has a crush on my uncle, so that might be B.S....

I believe it has the most air to air kills of any US Aircraft during WWII. Certainly the Soviets loved it more than they did the other USA single engine, single seat fighters we delivered to them. A lot of Russian pilots removed the wing mounted guns to improve its roll rate and a single round from the 37mm gun was sufficient to destroy any single engined aircraft it faced.
And Post-War it was beating P-51s in air races. The Mustang was less than stellar until the Brits mated the airframe with the Rolls Royce Merlin. In Alternate History, imagine the Airacobra mated with the same engine... Of course it probably would not have the range for bomber escort duties.

That's interesting. I noticed Chinese men, especially from Hong Kong, tend to act and look very effeminate, esp to our American perspectives. What puzzles me about what she says is the lack of men. China's been killing girl babies since the dawn of time. They have a severe lack of women in some provinces, so much so that men are raiding neighboring provinces for wives.

The thing has been a work in progress for quite a while, and still no production. The propellers (or whatever) for those things are huge. If they ever do get it running, no one within miles will be able to sleep at night. Those things have to create a ton of noise. Heh, I thought about moving to AK for the male to female ratio, except I don't like cold. And the whole "The odds are good but the goods are odd thing." Although the AK guys I talked to that worked with the cruise lines were very friendly. One was a merchant marine and spent half the year in MD.

I understand your logic re the ratio. But the bit about the "odd goods" is totally true. The last woman I dated, oh so long ago, was from AK. In some ways it was a very good kind of crazy. She taught me some things I would REALLY like to do again some day. On the other hand, it turned out she was sort of a loon. My woman friends still mock me about that sometimes. For example, one day she got a laugh out of stealing Christmas yard ornaments from around town and planting them in my yard.

Obama, who on Monday presents his budget proposals for the fiscal year starting October 1, has promised to tackle record deficits by initiating a spending freeze on some domestic programs and eliminating programs that are redundant.
The White House gave a preview of some of those cuts in a statement published on its blog on Saturday.
One of the proposals would eliminate the "Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit," which allows eligible taxpayers with children to get a portion of the a tax credit paid out in their paychecks throughout the year.
This is Bambi's idea of "saving" us money -- by finding a program that is "ineffective" and "prone to error" and getting rid of it. So he's "saving" us money by KEEPING MORE OF IT.
F-ing leftard.

I've made two forays into Pennsylvania and could not believe the night and day difference between the women there and in NY. The Americans also had a habit of pulling their aces back to the states for bond tours and the like. The Russians had to keep fighting or Stalin would have erased them from the history books.

Thanks for the "How to Lose a Man" tips -- I shall be trying to offer them up as suggestions to my daughter tomorrow (who doesn't want to lose that one, but I want her to...oy, kids).
Pregnancy tips -- hmm, depends upon the pregnancy: cranberry juice is a good thing, so are the pregger pillows, and a footstool and some peppermint foot cream are a godsend (make big daddy rub your feet -- that's his penance). And yes, women need to know how to manage men: first rule, let him think he's the king of the house (but the queen is the one everybody has to watch out for -- I refer you to Kipling for this); second, never contradict him in public (see first rule); third, be a loyal partner who abides by the golden rule (and make sure he knows the penalties for not reciprocating); make sure to do pleasant things for him (and praise him highly when he does the same for you -- that way he'll always do the pleasant things). There ya go, my preggers and marriage tips -- must be working I guess; plenty of kids and still married.

As a born and bred city girl, I appreciate NYC's gruff exterior and general unfriendliness. People pass each other on the sidewalk head down, shoulders hunched. No one makes eye contact. I love the anonymity.
When I lived in Upstate, my neighbors waved to me and I looked to see if it was actually me they were waving to because I'd never talked to them before. It freaks me out when people randomly say hello to me when I pass them (unless I'm at a Disney Park.)

I read an article in our local paper about a year ago discussing the "new China". Bascially it was about the young women of China now that divorce their husbands a lot more frequently than before for one reason or another. It said it is very easy to find a new husband or to just stay single and play the field. That says a lot about how far the culture has come. It used to be a big loss of face to not be a virgin when you got married.

I found it immensely creepy. However, I have three close friends that are now married that meet their spouses online. What's funny--they lie about how they met the significant other! Not one of them will fess up to having met online.

I think it has something to do with color psychology. The color red is proven to increase aggression in people. If you see that every morning in the mirror it probably affects your mind.

My only request re NYC is that I get to spend at least 3 hours at the Met (because I only got to go once) and I get to go to Dean and Deluca at least once.
Oh, and I would also like to visit the shoe floor at Saks again. No longer than 20 minutes or I'll walk out poor.

403 I can't speak for you, but I attract freaks. Therefore internet dating was downright scary. I had a good number of married guys trying to wink (or whatever the hell match called it--it's been awhile since I was on there) at me. Not quite sure what about my profile set off that vibe.
I think it can work for many and I certianly don't think people are losers if they try it. I mean, you get to a point where you think there is no other way to meet people. It just was not for me.

My opinion from...experimentation on the G-spot:
Most people don't know that the structure of the clitoris is like an iceberg: You see the tiniest fraction of it, well, above the surface. There is a huge part of it that extends behind the lower anterior wall of the vagina, and a place where it runs the closest is near the bladder sphincter.
I think this is what the G-spot actually is.

Lincoln,
I tried the internet dating crap one time. Met this gal who was about my age, and by her pics wasn't too bad. We had a lot in common, and she was in Springfield (about 90 miles away) so I took a shot.
What she didn't disclose on the dating site was that the pics she posted on the site were about 15 years old and she had had a stroke since then. Holy shit, she looked older than my mom, and walked with a cane! Never Again.

Sorry to make you have to revisit that. Reason I asked is that I have been told, sometimes rudely, that I have no business looking around until I am actually divorced (Damn year of legal separation in NC!) My wife squirreled away money for months before starting a big fight and ditching me, so reconciling with her is a non-starter, and hanging out alone all summer is a sucky proposition. I'm apparently the minority when it comes to hating San Fran. Spent too much time there as a kid because my grandparents lived there. We went up for Thanksgiving every year. The only thing that I like about SF is the fresh Dungeness crab at Fisherman's Wharf.

Don't worry about all that white globull warming. Teh Lindsey's gonna fix it for ya, 'cause Congress "needs a win." (From Gateway Pundit)
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said today that skeptical Republicans and Democrats should throw their support behind climate change legislation not only because itÂ’s good for the economy and the environment, but because Congress desperately needs a win under its belt.

I think you must have Batchelor mixed up with someone else. Cause I have never ever heard him predict WWIII or an kind of agressive act. He is more a reporter and a giver of anecdotes. But this Amazon thing sounds about right. The signing of McMillan coupled with the release of the Ipad ensures that the kindle will be all but dead. Guess amazon may be responding like a spoiled child cause they should be able to co exist with Apple.

When I was 16 my uncle took me on a tour of California for 2 weeks. Most of it was awesome. But one day we went to San Fran and walked around the "interesting" places. I was aghast at the manifold forms of social decadence/decay I saw there. I actually became physically ill from it and could not eat a bite until we'd crossed the bridge and got out of there.

Sarah Palin Bashing at Miss American pagent?
Miss Alaska says she "can't see Russia from her house
That's a pretty stupid things for her to say, considering that Palin's favorability ratings are on a steep rise back in Alaska and you never really know how a judge politically leans (even if you figure most of them are going to be lefties). I'm always dying of curiosity when Beck talks about the folks from Hollowood who call the show saying he's "right on" and that they listen every day but just can't come out of the closet.
I read a blog comment today from an Alaskan woman that basically said the majority of Alaskans would give their collective left nuts to have someone with her integrity back in the saddle.

Lincoln, I see one of our more astute morons already suggested hanging out at a Tea Party, but since they're few and far between, relatively speaking, what about your local GOP county (or state) organization? Not sure how out-of-age-range you might be, but what about college campus Young Republican meetings? That's as guaranteed conservative as you're going to get.
Now, if the real Dear Abby was still writing her column, she'd tell you to go to church to meet a nice girl, but that's no guarantee (of meeting a conservative) unless you're of the Evangelical persuasion. But either way, a dandy day brightener, no?

The pedals are made separately by a vendor. Your basic auto assembly plant is just that, assembling parts made by other companies to your specifications. Since a lot of Chinese vendors cut corners in other industries we deal with, I wonder if this one is Chinese too. Odds are that other companies that use them will come up with possible pedal problems too.
I remember the hysteria over Audi's sticky throttle problem in the late 70s which was overblown. This strikes me as overblown hysteria too.
Personally, I hate the "drive by wire" throttles they use nowadays. I just trust cable linkages more.

It's really frustrating, so much that sometimes I just hang out with the old guys and ask them if they have daughters who are still single. I check out conservative clubs and I cannot tell you how many times the girl (if there IS one) is ALWAYS married already with several kids. Everyone is married, or hooked with somebody else. Hmmm. If your finances are in such good order you should use mail order to get a woman from teh mysterious east! Get a cute little asian half breed with hard eyes, long dark hair, and a rockin' little body that has a low probability of getting at. One with just enough knowledge of English to recieve commands and communicate basic needs, but not enough to assault you with idle prattle. Mmmmm....

I think it's so we don't feel so damn lonely going to a wedding alone. Weddings usually have a lot of couples and it's all romantic and crap. I've never had a date for a wedding. I always go by myself or with family.

On the Eastern Front virtually the entire air war was a few hundred feet above the tanks. The piss-poor high-altitude performance of the Allison engine in the P-39/P-63 mattered little there, where it would have been crippling in bomber escort duty over France and Germany. The P-38 used Allisons but with a turbocharger installation unique to that application.
Curtiss spent no little bit of effort trying to wring better altitude performance out of the P-40, they eventually did a Packard Merlin version with a thinner wing, etc. but by then the Mustang was in production.
The Merlin went through a whole lot of versions, the Packard flavors that went into Mustangs were high-level engines but the Brits did a lot of low-altitude Merlins for the Spits in North Africa, etc.
And, of course, it all worked because the US of A flooded Britain in 130-octane avgas with a tetraethyl lead content that'd have greenies chewing paint chips in anger.

A friend of mine is planning to get married soon, and I'm trying to convince his to elope to Hawaii or something. Otherwise I'll be standing up there in a monkey suit again. Prolly after walking his wife-to-be's walrus-like friend up the aisle. Sigh...

Might be an age thing, too. Most of my friends aren't getting married or aren't married period. I guess if all your friends are/getting married you feel more left out and feel the need to show them you have someone, too. Or to stop them from pitying you.

Perhaps for some. Two of these weddings, I know I will be just about the only single girl there my age. Other than that, it'll be like 13 yr old girls vying for the boquet. I just make sure I'm in the bathroom or somewheere else out of sight when that wretched tradition rears its ugly head.
I never used to care but as I get older it's no longer fun thinking "oh I'll just go stag in case I meet someone". It would be nice to just already have the date and not worry about it.

An Atlas reader, Chuck, has a student in the eleventh grade in an Ohio High School. Her government class passed out this propaganda recruiting paper so students could sign up as interns for Obama's Organizing for America
Obama is using our public school system to recruit for his Alinsky-inspired private army. Organizing for America is (and I quote) recruiting in our high schools to "build on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda" ............of national socialism.

We have two engineers (one with a BS in EE and one with a BS in ME) working as maintenance techs. The up side is that they will be much better engineers because of it, but neither had a work history.

Looks like my plans are set! Thanks for the tip!

Hahahaha! What an apt show for V-Day, lol. I've only seen parts of episodes of Cheaters, though.
I also hate Valentine's Day. Dumb holiday. (And I even had a Valentine last year.)
This year it coincides with Chinese New Year. I'll be celebrating that instead.

All engineers can do with a little bit of experience fixing engineering screw ups.
I have talked to the local steel fabrication shops and none of they have laid off everyone except the illegals. Even some of the road construction projects are going slow.
Jeez, and I was hoping to make enough money to buy an AR or even an M1A plus mags and ammo.

Also, one year, I accidentally got flowers from someone. Thought I had a stalker. Scary, but the closest I've gotten to an actual Valentine (not counting internet-boy).

@855: "He who has no stomach for this fight, let him depart. We would not die in that man's company who fears his fellowship to die with us. etc, etc. My favorite Shakespeare scene, although I can't quote it from memory."
The St. Crispin's Day speech is good. The Harfleur speech is more intimidating, if a bit less moto:
"How yet resolves the governor of the town?
This is the latest parle we will admit;
Therefore to our best mercy give yourselves;
Or like to men proud of destruction
Defy us to our worst: for, as I am a soldier,
A name that in my thoughts becomes me best,
If I begin the battery once again,
I will not leave the half-achieved Harfleur
Till in her ashes she lie buried.
The gates of mercy shall be all shut up,
And the flesh'd soldier, rough and hard of heart,
In liberty of bloody hand shall range
With conscience wide as hell, mowing like grass
Your fresh-fair virgins and your flowering infants.
What is it then to me, if impious war,
Array'd in flames like to the prince of fiends,
Do, with his smirch'd complexion, all fell feats
Enlink'd to waste and desolation?
What is't to me, when you yourselves are cause,
If your pure maidens fall into the hand
Of hot and forcing violation?
What rein can hold licentious wickedness
When down the hill he holds his fierce career?
We may as bootless spend our vain command
Upon the enraged soldiers in their spoil
As send precepts to the leviathan
To come ashore. Therefore, you men of Harfleur,
Take pity of your town and of your people,
Whiles yet my soldiers are in my command;
Whiles yet the cool and temperate wind of grace
O'erblows the filthy and contagious clouds
Of heady murder, spoil and villany.
If not, why, in a moment look to see
The blind and bloody soldier with foul hand
Defile the locks of your shrill-shrieking daughters;
Your fathers taken by the silver beards,
And their most reverend heads dash'd to the walls,
Your naked infants spitted upon pikes,
Whiles the mad mothers with their howls confused
Do break the clouds, as did the wives of Jewry
At Herod's bloody-hunting slaughtermen.
What say you? will you yield, and this avoid,
Or, guilty in defence, be thus destroy'd?

The Dauphin, whom of succors we entreated,
Returns us that his powers are yet not ready
To raise so great a siege. Therefore, great king,
We yield our town and lives to thy soft mercy.
Enter our gates; dispose of us and ours;
For we no longer are defensible.

"Oh villains, Chiron and Demetrius. Here stands the spring whom you have stained with mud, this goodly summer with your winter mixed. You killed her husband, and for that vile fault two of her brothers were condemned to death, my hand cut off and made a merry jest, both her sweet hands, her tongue, and that more dear than hands or tongue, her spotless chastity, inhuman traitors, you constrained and forced. What would you say if I should let you speak? Villains, for shame, you could not beg for grace. Hark, wretches, how I mean to martyr you. This one hand yet is left to cut your throats whilst that Lavinia, 'tween her stumps doth hold the basin that receives your guilty blood. You know, your mother means to feast with me and calls herself Revenge and thinks me mad. Hark, villains. I shall grind your bones to dust, and with your blood and it I shall make a paste, and of the paste a coffin I will rear and make two pastries of your shameful heads. And bid that strumpet, your unhallowed dam, like to the earth, swallow her own increase! This is the feast I have bid her to, and this the banquet she shall surfeit on... And now prepare your throats."
Heh, that one puts Eric Cartman's "I made you eat your parents" to shame...

I wish I could remember more of the philosophy I read as a kid. Once college began, that got lost after the first year. One regret I still have.
My parents brought me up on reading philosophies (I remember Hegel and Nietzche were part of that among others) and my second highschool had a great books reading program during which we had great discussions. My college was more into kissing up to the instructors rather than actually discussing the material.
Looking back on childhood, I feel so much less intelligent than I used to be.

Good Morning Morons; I'm back. Yesterday during the 50 worse movies thread, as expected I lost power. Still my area didn't get hit as hard as most, we were sort of a "island in the sea of ice". Anyway saw this from Fox this morning;
TARP Cop: Some Bailout Goals Still Unmet
The governmentÂ’s top bailout cop said Sunday that more than a year after the financial crisis hit, many of the goals of WashingtonÂ’s $700 billion bank rescue program remain unmet and that policymakers still have not addressed fundamental problems that triggered the crisis, leaving the financial system vulnerable to another collapse.
Aha I says to myself, finally someone will start screaming about what caused this mess and what needs to be done! But alas, as I read further I see that this is a controlled leak. They just want more of the same crap that got us here. E.g. the evil banks are just not loaning enough money to people who canÂ’t pay it back.
In a 224-page quarterly report to Congress, Neil Barofsky, the Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program acknowledged that TARP had stabilized the financial system. But he said that it has so far failed to restore consumer and business lending and to significantly prevent home foreclosure.
If you are wondering why you never here nothing from the “loyal opposition” on why nothing is being done you need look no further than this paragraph:
The top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Sen. Susan Collins, (R-MA), said she was “deeply troubled” by the report.
Another reason why RINOs should be permanently banned from all committee assignments. Personally, anyone who is only “deeply troubled” by what the communists are doing in the banking industry is part of the damn problem.

More on Banking From Drudge/FT:
Bankers in favour of paying global fee
Some of the worldÂ’s most prominent bankers have come out in favour of a global bank wind-down fund, a concession from the industry after weeks of fighting proposals for new taxes in the US and Europe.
One wonders why EVERY damn problem in the world is answered with a new tax when the commie-crats are in charge?
Bank too big????? Answer split the bank into smaller parts (even though that is unconstitutional)? Of course not, make them pay a new tax! (which they will not mind at all since they will pass it on to customers).

The point is moonless skies have zero to do with security at a nuclear power plant. “quickly overpowering guards” is just pure bullshit speculation by an ignorant asshole.
Using explosives capable of destroying armored military vehicles, the terrorists blast a hole in the side of a huge concrete canister holding spent nuclear fuel. I can not explain in detail why this is pure bullshit. I will just say this; pure bullshit. No one is sure what could happen next. Well, first you have to accept the bullshit premise from the previous lie. However, even given the lie postulated above, everyone who knows anything about nuclear power knows exactly what would happen next; mostly NOTHING. Could the attack cause radiation to leak into the atmosphere? Would the release be enough to endanger the public? Should security, which was beefed up at nuclear plants after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, be bolstered even more?Study the absolute bullshittyness of the sentences above;
could printing this pack of lies influence anyone, would the influence be enough to cause them to advocate even more useless regulations, would those additional useless regulations increase the cost of generating electricity, is this article a leak by the Obama administration or is the author another green commie watermelon bastard?
This kind of bullshit is why nobody with a lick of sense takes the AGW scam seriously.
Repeat: First amendment has been rendered immaterial and irrelavent.

You are absolutely correct in your assessment of liberals always making outlandish statements about things that to properly rebut would involve declassifying information or sources and undermine our objectives. That's what was so frustrating to me during the war. I KNEW Democrats were lying through their teeth but could say nothing because it was classified.

The only risk I see is the mass hysteria that sets in when the power is out too long.
LOL, we were without power for many hours yesterday while it was in the 20s. Good thing I have gas logs.
Could the public be at risk if terrorists attacked a gas storage facility?

Looks like the Bush lawyers are going to be cleared in regard to the torture stuff. At least according to Isikoff at Newsweak. Good news for the right, bad news for Holder and Obama.
Actually they got what they wanted, another "evil Bush" news story. Look for this yto be brought up again in the fall.

From that link above:
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said today that skeptical Republicans and Democrats should throw their support behind climate change legislation not only because it's good for the economy and the environment, but because Congress desperately needs a win under its belt.
You can tell that asswipe was reelected in 2008 and has a long breathing spell.
BTW; several Republican local R caucuses in SC have issued censures to him. Everyone I know hates his sorry ass. I quit sending him letters long ago.
He is the very definition of a RINO who should be kicked out of the party.

Shorten URL firefox add-in makes shortened links with a right click of the mouse.
Tiny URL Generator lets you make shortened links with a right click of the mouse and also puts a little icon at the bottom right of your browser page -- you highlight the URL you want to shorten, left click the icon and you're ready to paste the shortened URL. I really like that add-on.

Having spent five years in Japan in my twenties and having come back with Mrs D, many years ago, let me offer this unsolicited advice: Cultural and language differences make things more difficult. The myth of the submissive Asian woman is just that. The cute, submissive exterior is a facade. Is a wimp going to give up her language and friends and home to move to a strange land to be with you?
You might be as lucky as I was. There were plenty of other girls in the English classes I taught, but none of them were the one. Many were quite nice, a few were stunning, and some were spoiled brats. I chose wisely, but I will be the first to admit it was mostly dumb luck that things turned out so well.
I don't think the mail order thing will work, but then somebody wins the lottery.

Meh, Pro Bowl -- for some reason the NFL just holds no attractions for me anymore; honestly, watching it makes me hate football (I know, wtf??). The high school field is a field away from our house -- I find their games more inspiring, if not as killer skillz wonderful. I don't even watch basketball anymore. I still can be talked into a pro level baseball or hockey game -- but even there, sometimes the college or minors is a lot more fun to go to. Pro sports suck anymore.
Back to the topic of last nights conversation: I see there are some lonely hearts out there...hmmm...Rum, sorry dear, I can't help you; although I do know of an infantryman, nice kid (well, he's a kid to me, he'd be a bit old-ish for you), great family -- how do you feel about farm boys? (he's not tall though, so if you like tall guys I'm afraid he doesn't cut it) The bonus would be that his mom would probably love you (and that is always a good thing).
Now, for the men: ok, any of you no older than 25, reasonably good looking, smart (!!! you cannot be stupid, sorry, I have standards here), no couch potatoes, must be willing and able to act like gentlemen, must be willing and able to be staunch, upright family men. and it would be nice if you were a bit on the tall-ish side because the family has a bit of a shortness curse thanks to my grandpa. Oh, and you have to be capable of not being intimidated by women in camo who know how to kill things -- probably wouldn't hurt if you were somewhat outdoorsy (did I mention no dumb guys?).
I've got 2 daughters who are getting to that age, one of which has a somebody right now...I don't like the somebody....basta, damn kids!

Alas, I'm sure you're right. Still, it's a pleasant fiction - harmless enough if one does not act upon it. Guess we're just going to keep waiting for the invention of convincing fembots.
Of course, it is possible that Japan's prosperity had some affect on your experience. The kind of typical mail order scenario I have in mind is one where you rescue the young lady from desperate poverty (rural Viet Nam or some such) and a culture that devalues females - especially those lovely half breeds...
I visited the D.R. last year, and met many American expat guys there. Most, even the old guys, were married up to pretty young Dominicanas. Both seemed happy enough - locally the other women would refer to the phenomenon by saying that so-and-so "found her gringo."

979 -- I can't say I "hate" the guy; under other circumstances I might like him (like if he was wanting to play smoochie with somebody other than my kid). I certainly no better than to rag on her about him, but still -- Romeo needs to rethink his plans with my kid; he's substandard material imho. I just gave her the head's up to that...because I'm her mother; I think I'll let Romeo know that I don't approve too...because I'm her mother and am old-fashioned like that.
I suppose I should be happy that she's definitely not the type to hook up with some scrawny, little noogie, and it took somebody older to pull the wool over her eyes, but still.

990 -- Hello? Fixed? No grandkids for me? (I'm old fashioned that way). Plus, my daughter has been a very, good soldier and a sharp cookie (her XO and the NCOs love her and hold her in high regard; good for her, and she's smart). This guy, he has really nothing to recommend himself. Nice enough guy, but not exactly a rocket scientist, nor a particularly good soldier...and he's got an ex-wife...and he's fixed. WTF!?
and to be quite honest I question his motives and goals with my kid -- no playing smoochie with my kids (I'm tempted to go visit her and yell some sense).
Plus, she is "married" to the U.S., in particular the U.S. Army for another 5 years (at least). If they wanted her to have a boyfriend they would have issued her one (you try to get this through to your kids....oy).

"Bank too big????? Answer split the bank into smaller parts (even though that is unconstitutional)? Of course not, make them pay a new tax! (which they will not mind at all since they will pass it on to customers)."
If you add a new class of bankruptcy, and refuse to interfere before they actually declare bankruptcy on their own, it would pass constitutional muster.
I'd add: The entire executive level gets fired, parachutes cut, contracts for stock, etc. voided.
If they're too freaking big to honestly be allowed to fail, then they're too freaking big. By putting in the executive punishment aspects, you get the people driving -all- big companies to be much more careful. Which is the freaking goal. You also put some downward pressure on size.

All that would do is trade one unconsituional law for a different one with a new name. My copy of the Consituion conatins no authority of the fed government to dictate bank size. (or bank anything for that matter)

Recently, I was hit with a piece of malware called Antivirus 2009
It got in, and disabled all my executable files (.exe)
You can read about it HERE... And, the in-depth technical aspects At this blog.
Almost all of your applications are executable files, including your browser.
What this means is, once it's in your computer, you can't get rid of it, without wiping out your hard drive, and reloading from scratch... If you're familiar with the DOS, you may be able to save some, or all, of your data, but you'll still have to reload any of your applications - imaging applications, your printer, and other hardware drivers.
It's a lot of work, to get yourself back up to where you were before the attack.
The bad guys are slick.
Let's say, you want to make reservations at a hotel.. You go to Google, and type in "Travelocity" for example... The bad guys have created a FAKE Travelocity page AND been able to get it to the top of the list on Google.
The reason, Google doesn't recognize the site as malicious is, they only scan the page itself, but not the LINKS contained ON the page... You click a link, and BINGO, you're infected... In other words, you are only two clicks away from getting infected.
You don't think you can get it?
My new Malware Protection application just stopped an attack that appears to have originated at Photobucket, through a banner ad.. And, I didn't click the ad, which means, it was most likely activated, simply by a "mouseover"
I'm not saying Photobucket for sure... I have several windows and tabs open.. It could have come from any one of them.. Photobucket was just the window I had on top at the time.
So, with that in mind, I suggest everyone download a protection program.
My local computer guy suggested this:
Malwarebytes.org
You can get a Free Version, but it's recommended you pay for the Full Version.
I don't know what you get in the Free version, but the Full Version can be set to automatically scan your computer as often as you want, (I set mine for once a day) and, it will automatically download updates.

I have Malwarebytes and 2 other like programs. It did not prevent me from getting that trojan from an ad on THIS site. It also would not remove the infected files.
I made the mistake of "clicking" on the x in the popup. The it wouldn't even allow me to stoip it using taskmanager. In the time it took to shutoff my machine it had already severely incted my computer.
I had to wipe the hard drive and reload from scratch.

Second time I was able to get Norton and Malware running before AV 2009 initialized and was able to kill the malware that way.
Some Malware merely disables Task Manager and there is a program that enables task manager. But some malware will continue to disable task manager every 15 seconds!
Malware programming should be punishable by death sentence, drawn and quartered is not barbaric enough to sate my blood thirst on this matter.
I switched to Firefox and it appears my infection rate has dropped by 90 percent.
Posted by: Holger at January 31, 2010 08:29 AM (8NGHm)
Yep,
I've gotten into the habit of reloading the page, instead of clicking the "x" to get rid of the popup.. Don't touch it, or mouseover it.

1010 -- ah, there's the rub: she's had to serve under some Westies already (and I may brag: overrode one of them with extreme prejudice, which probably saved the silly fool from getting blown up -- that's one of the people that would recommend her for anything she wanted; he loves her, in a nonromantic you-saved-my ass way). She is allowing her noncom prejudice to cloud her good sense, oy. It's Warrant that she wants, and I'm sure she can get it, but Romeo better not foul this up (argh, basta, basta, oy, oy).
Fortunately her sister is a bit more politic and not so stubborn -- but she's not the leader material her sister is (although she is an excellent soldier in her area -- excellent, not just "very good"...just not a leader).
