— Ace A party of cowards.
Six of the key seven there make sense: Casey, Donnelly, Heitkamp, Manchin, Pryor, and Walsh are all either red- or purple-staters and therefore leery of cuddling up to a guy whoÂ’s known for having defended Mumia Abu-Jamal. Coons is the outlier. HeÂ’s from deep-blue Delaware and doesnÂ’t face reelection for another two years....Another surprise is some of the red-state Democrats who did vote yes, including/especially red-staters who are up in November. What on earth were Mary Landrieu and Kay Hagan, whoÂ’s rocking a 33 percent approval rating these days in North Carolina, thinking?
There is a mystery here, as Allah explains. One Democrat apparently flipped from "yes" to "no" at the last minute. Joey Bidez was standing by to cast a tie-breaking 51st vote to put this nominee over the top-- but a Democrat decided to duck and vote "no" to avoid the spectacle of that.

A Snap Shot Perspective of My Views on Gun Ownership & The 2nd Amendment
The 2nd Amendment is inherent in America’s cultural DNALimiting magazine capacity is impracticalPunishing law abiding gun owners is not the solutionI believe everyone who owns a gun should attend a basic firearms & range safety qualifications course and that these courses should be standardizedThe NRA should be like PADI or NAUI and encourage gun ranges to only accept NRA basic qualified shooters on the range.Few people outside of America understand how important firearms ownership is to AmericansBackground checks are a good idea but should take minutes, not daysOften gun laws are made by people who don’t use, own, or understand firearmsMass shootings have to be dealt with head-on or America will face more gun restrictions and erosion of 2nd Amendment rights.NRA training needs to be brought up to date.Legislation on increasing the prevention of severely mentally ill folks (e.g. paranoid schizophrenia)from gaining access to firearms seems logical. Increase the early warning signsDogs/handlers at schools and colleges are better than armed guards, in my opinion. Dogs are an incredible resource to use in these situationsGuns aren’t the problem, mental illness is the problem. It’s like punishing responsible automobile owners (which kill more people annually) because of drunk drivers killing innocent people on the roadI believe we should be able to concealed-carry and open-carry where practical (e.g., not on an elementary school campus or an airplane)Guns are guns and people should be able to own and obtain a permit to own everything, short of an anti-tank weapon or WMD, if they’re properly trained/certifiedThe NRA should take a strong leadership position when it comes to legislation affecting ownership pro and con, not just a “supporter” of legislation. The perception from the left is that the NRA is an uncompromising organizationI think the current NRA Executive VP Wayne LaPierre, could do more to a lot more to improve how the NRA is viewed by the rest of America, especially the youth. If elected to the board I would be one of 76, but I would do my best to make sure we hold the elected leaders accountable, and work on ways to promote and engage the responsible youth in this country. They are the future, and you cannot ignore the decline in youth firearms participation and membership.I believe the 2nd Amendment is a right we should keep and hold dearI'm not seeing anything radical enough to raise red flags, unless he's said something different somewhere else.

Coons has a safe seat that--from what I've read--would likely remain safe even if he had voted yes to confirm, so I'm guessing it was a real-deal conscience vote. It's possible, even with Democratic politicians. At least it would be pretty to think so.

Obama wouldn't have to actually pardon Mumia. This is how it would happen:
EXTERIOR, White House Rose Garden - January 2, 2017
REPORTER (Bill): (with planted question) Mr. President! What do you plan to do now that you're entering your last few weeks in the White House?
OBAMA: Well, Bill, there's still a lot that I've got on my plate to clear up before moving on.
REPORTER: There's been a lot of discussion about the possibility of you pardoning Mumia Abu Jamal, who as you know is in jail in Pennsylvania for killing a police officer. Have you given that any consideration?
OBAMA: As President, Bill, I can't pardon individuals who are in prison for state crimes. My ability to pardon is limited only to federal crimes. That said, were I in a position to pardon Mumia Abu Jamal, I would do so. I think the evidence speaks for itself as to the unfairness and racially motivated reasons behind his arrest and incarceration, and ours is a country that believes in fixing its mistakes, not allowing them to linger.
Cue LEFTWING WHACKJOBS crowding around the PENNSYLVANIA GOVERNOR'S HOME, demanding Mumia be pardoned "Because Obama said so!"
Lower curtain, fade to black.

There's a difference between a man convicted and sitting in prison now, and the same man sitting in prison after the black President of the United States "pardons" him and the state "ignores" it.

Yep. I shoot at a nice indoor range with range masters who watch the shooters. If you don't know what you're doing, they teach you. If you want to learn more, they teach classes.
If you have required classes the states of Chicago and NYC and others that don't want you to have a gun will pull all sorts of shenanigans to make sure it's a hurdle you can't overcome.

Barry's approval rating is in the low 40s. The Ukraine news isn't going to help that. If the domestic and foreign policies are tits up, then whatever Left Coalition support the administration has left will probably hurt Obama more than it will help him. A Republican governor who defies the Administration based on solid Constitutional grounds will likely have a straight shot to higher office today.

Yes, but a state legislature could pass a motion to the effect of "We the legislature of (blah blah state) feel that it would be just and right (yadda yadda) to pardon (insert name of crook), and we encourage governor (so and so) to do so."
Look, I'm not saying it'll happen. I'm just saying anyone who thinks it COULDN'T happen -- today, in the era of Obammy, that sees people regularly arguing Stand Your Ground laws in cases that have NOTHING to do with standing one's ground, and where Dzokhar Tsarnaev was featuerd on the cover of Rolling Stone, and that has an AG who is still in contempt of Congress and doesn't seem to care -- then I think that that person is being much, much too trusting.

Plus, there is remarkably little support for Mumia in Philly itself. The city much prefers to pretend the whole Mumia/MOVE thing never happened.
Wild guess - you still think the country can crawl out of this mess politically, too. Got it.

Because a wholesale slaughter would be too obvious, do it piecemeal while preventing them from doing anything further in their positions. "Rubber room" them (like bad NY school teachers) by requiring a comprehensive and fact based self written work bio of: their specific qualifications for their positions, what they accomplished in the past 8 years, why those tasks were taken, who directed them to pursue those tasks and with specific identification of the benefits to the country, the expenses to the country and/or Americans and/or business, alternatives considered and rejected (and why), objections made by non-fellow travelers to courses of action and the specific factual reasons they were ignored etc. If they fail in their explanations, fire if you can or move them to the most inhospitable and worst departments where no further harm can be done.
I would add the the most egregious ones (e.g., IRS, EPA etc.) should be audited personally, their gov't expenses scrutinized and challenged with demands and/or lawsuits for restitution and criminal prosecution if warranted.

But if you're a governor, and you want to make it look like you've got the consent of the governed to do something deeply unpopular that All The Important People (tm) are telling you you have to do, and you've got enough goods on the people in your legislature that you can make them vote for some piece of shit, non-legally binding motion that gives you some cover, then you'd do it.

Mobsters, at least, have their code of leaving "innocents" alone. There are plenty of examples of gang-bangers taking revenge on families. The Philly Police, the PA (and NJ, and DE) State police, local cops and sheriffs, all take the Mumia support as a personal affront. Mumia is not some "run of the mill" cop killer, he's been elevated to demigiod status among his supporters.
I'm not going to tell you that a cop is just going to walk up and shoot him at the press conference, but I'm pretty confident that unless Cook gets straight on a plane to Cuba, he'll have some sort of accident.

This filibuster shows a hypocritical double standard. During the course of their long careers, both John Roberts and Debo Adegbile each performed a vital constitutional service by representing an unpopular client on death row. Roberts is now Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, but opponents of the Adegbile nomination twisted reality and resorted to some of the dirtiest attacks I’ve seen in my professional career. Instead of extolling his admirable record of service, as the American Bar Association did, extremists turned this family man into a ‘cop-killer defender’ and a buffoonish racialized caricature.
... filibuster !?! He lost .. there was no filibuster.
What a buffoonish racialized caricature of the events of the day.

Q-daffy gave up his chemical weapons when American threatened him.
Assad not only kept his chem weapons, but used them even after American threatened him.

Lesson: Get WMDs, never give them up, and use them at will. Smart. Diplomacy.

Democrat Says Republicans Would Support Abortion 'If Their Daughter Got Pregnant By a Black Man'
Puffington Host: http://tinyurl.com/olb7sje
The debate in the Alabama statehouse over a controversial new abortion restriction veered into racial territory on Tuesday when a Democratic opponent claimed that his Republican colleagues would support abortion “if their daughter got pregnant by a black man."
The Birmingham News reported that Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin (R-Indian Springs) kicked off the tussle by comparing the bill in question to the landmark 1954 Supreme Court ruling Brown vs. Board of Education, which declared segregation in schools was unconstitutional.
McClurkinÂ’s comments were met with a fierce response from Rep. Alvin Holmes (D-Montgomery).
“Ninety-nine percent of all of the white people in here are going to raise their hand that they are against abortion,” said Holmes, who is black. “On the other hand, 99 percent of the whites who are sitting in here now, if their daughter got pregnant by a black man, they are going to make their daughter have an abortion.
"You know, the truth sometimes hurts," Holmes continued. "All this stuff about abortion and this and that -- thatÂ’s just a con game. ThatÂ’s for whites, it ainÂ’t for blacks."...
I'm not even going to comment. I can't say anything that wouldn't put me on a no-fly list.

I remember that. Nearly every fucking dogshit thing the JEF does has it's roots in Slick's presidency. Anybody who thinks that rednosed predator looking like Bob Barker with STDs was anything less than a clusterfuck for the country is a moron of the wrong kind.

There was a guy who did this in the library a long time ago. Hung around the "new book" stacks and hoped someone would check it out! He later moved to Texas, y'all. I am not sure what this syndrome is. Possibly Harry Reid has it as well*
Harry Reid: Raciss prosonpagnosia with a soupcon of inappropriate priapism. Perhaps that is why he hides behind the podium! Viagra overdose caused the concussion and black eye! It is all making sense now...

Total agreement on that. The *wildly popular* Slick never got 50% of the popular vote, even against the inept Poppy Bush and Bob Dole.

Yep. Behold the churches of Europe. When you dance around the plain English of the Bible and deny its holy nature, you are done. End of story.

Serious question, I haven't been keep up with everything hateful that there is to hate. Is there reason to hate Abdegile other than that he defended a cop killer?
