— Purple Avenger The whole email exchange at this link is worth a read. It starts out at the bottom with our illustrious "science czar" John Holdren being CC:'d on the Sulphur Dioxide "plume stacks" cooling scheme that has been floating around, then towards the top morphs into Phil Jones wishing the damn cooling would just quit. Good stuff.

How best to hide the decline?
I suggest starving 100,000 Africans, sterilizing 200,000 Chinese, and aborting 400,000 Americans.

Archie: Wanda, do you have any idea what it's like being English? Being so correct all the time, being so stifled by this dread of, of doing the wrong thing, of saying to someone "Are you married?" and hearing "My wife left me this morning," or saying, uh, "Do you have children?" and being told they all burned to death on Wednesday. You see, Wanda, we'll all terrified of embarrassment. That's why we're so... dead. Most of my friends are dead, you know, we have these piles of corpses to dinner. But you're alive, God bless you, and I want to be, I'm so fed up with all this. I want to make love with you, Wanda. I'm a good lover - at least, used to be, back in the early 14th century. Can we go to bed?

I can't say that worries about explanations "wearing thin" ever appeared in the scientific processes I have seen. Maybe this "wearing thin"ness of explanations is their real contribution? It's radical ... Usually you have to traipse over to the sociology department to see that sort of stuff.
I would just suggest, as a backup to your prediction, that you also do some checking on the sulfate issue, just so you might have a quantified explanation in case the prediction is wrong.
Plan B, in the case the Earth survives. Good thinking. Prove that it MUST die, anyway.
Otherwise, the Skeptics will be all over us--the world is really cooling, the models are no good, etc.
LOL. This is insane. Earlier in the email, MacCracken is casually talking about ""geoengineering" to throw some sulfate clouds up here and there ... If you thought the left's social engineering has nearly ruined our monetary system, wait until you see what their geoengineering leaves in its wake. Whoa, boy! It'll be "Space or Die".

But, that would just be the beginning. Everytime their predictions would be wrong (which would be often) they would do something bigger. We see this in how they drive regulations. The CRA was not only not repealed, but they have been trying to double down on it, as I'm sure you're aware. Leftists are inherently unstable and very destabilizing to everything they touch because this is what they always do - try to stop the world and make it as static as the world of their childish imaginations is.

As an student in biochemistry I had to struggle with my experiements. If the data did not fit my hypothesis, I had to submit to the hard reality that the world as I concieved it may not be the world as it exists. I had to question the accuracy of my methods, question my hypothesis, and, in the worst case, start all over from scratch.
The enormity of coming up with original research that was doable, grant-worthy and based on a novel contribution was an ongoing lesion in humility. Science was an honorable pursuit, and the struggle to apprehend reality worth the pain.
Now I find out that all you have to do in science is make up shit.

Yep, until the taxes commence and the phony-baloney carbon limitations imposed upon the people. When people find out they need to buy a 'carbon credit' as a penalty to offset their purchase of a big car or truck, the politicians will face a serious backlash.
All this talk about 'going green' is fine and dandy until it starts digging into people's pockets.

I went to the Ask Jim Hansen a question site and left this;
Since Phil Jones has answered the FOIA process by saying he has no valid publishable raw station data to match to compare to the current ‘cooked’ dataset, And he has announced that the CRU has no idea what stations comprise their dataset, no reproducible methods, no published methods, and no record of how the CRU arrived at their current dataset, and your responses to similar requests for data and methods are the same as responses from Jones, Mann, et.al. then what on earth makes you think you are ‘doing science’? Science means published data and methods then DARING other scientists to disprove your theory. You, Mr Hansen, and your comrades at the CRU with all the secrecy and hidden data cooking, are not doing science at all. How do you respond?

They'll try, for sure. And I'm sure it will remain on some campuses forever. But it will always be divided into "B.C." and "A.C.". Before Climategate and After Climategate. Virtually all of the politicking/manipulating/legislating up to now has revolved around the data/predictions provided by the corrupt-to-the-core CRU/IPCC cabal. From now on, nobody who conducts research and hides their data can be taken seriously. GW hysteria depends on that hidden data. That spells doom for all but the most loony of the tenured enviro-nuts.

The general public already knows this. Most of the polls reflect a majority against AGW legislation now. If they somehow did an accurate poll it would probably be on the order of 2/3 against, 1/5 for and the rest "undecided" (stupid).
The fact is that the government has NEVER been one to be actually concerned with the environment. Their concern has always been advancing government power and socialism. AGW/Green has always been nothing more than a vehicle for that movement.
As long as they think that they can push this scam and STILL be reelected they will continue to push it. This is where the MSM comes in. If the media is not covering the story they will figure that the average person either knows nothing about the recent events or that they do not believe what they are hearing from the "wingers" on the right.
IOW, their reelection is assured.

Lift up a rock and another snake comes slithering out from the ongoing University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) scandal, now riding as “Climategate”.
Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRUÂ’s unfolding Climategate scandal. In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people.
The files contain so much material that it is going to take some time to put it all in context. However, enough is already known to underscore their explosive nature. It is already clear the entire claims and positions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are based on falsified manipulated material and is therefore completely compromised.
The fallout will be extensive as material continues to emerge. Reputations of the scientists involved are already destroyed, however fringe players will continue to be identified and their reputations destroyed or sullied.
While the mainstream media is bending into pretzels to keep the scandal under the rug, Climategate is already the biggest scientific scandal in history because of the global policy implications.

People have already been warned that their electric bills will go up by a minimum of 100% and could range as high as 500%. The problem is that those numbers are actually low ball numbers AND since they came from the Heritage Foundation "most" people never heard the warning.
They have NOT heard the warnings about the incredible costs associated with upgrading their homes. Not even Fox has reported that.
As for incandescent bulbs, they price will not go up so much as the bulbs will simply disappear. Like Freon-12, they will become the chief item smuggled across the Mexican border.

Like all other "green" scams, the us of CFL bulbs is only a PR stunt with minimum impact. The only place where lighting has a significant impact on the average consumer home is a small strip about 50 miles wide along the California coast. There they have no A/C and most homes use natural gas for heating, cooking, and hot water heaters.
That same area is where the majority of the nation's idiot greenies come from. They don't really give a damn how much electricity costs because they don't use any. This is why they also "think" that roof top solar panels is the answer to all the energy woes.
Most of the rest of the country, except the extreme North, have heat pumps for A/C and heating. (no coincidence that the North harbors a lot of the greenies as well). Also, most of the rest of the country use electricity for hot water.
Last year I spent $1800 on electricity at a rate of 7.1 cents/kw-hr. If that goes up by a factor of 5 it will go to $9000. Now I don't know about the rest of you Morons but I don't have that kind of money laying around to throw into a useless hole in the ground.
And that is ONLY for electricity. The price of EVERYTHING will go through the roof as energy prices go up. Remember the hyper inflation during the Carter years. A lot of that inflation was due to energy prices going up.
That was small compared to what the House bill will do to them. Of course, by the time people actually see the impact it will be too late. The government will blame the "evil" oil companies and the evil utilities. Then what little is left of these companies will be nationalized.
So why are these companies supporting the crap and tax. They have been bribed and CEOs now only look at the short term. They will be CEO for only 5 years at the most and that is ALL they care about.

Just as a reminder...the new politically correct term is "climate change". Global warming is so 2003. After all, the believers in the Church of Climatology got sick of all the "heathen non-believers" tossing up incidents of record cold in their faces. I mean, the dumb clucks didn't believe them when they said that extreme cold snaps were evidence that the planet was heating up. Climate change? Yeah....that would shut 'em up and keep the gravy train rolling.....
Now if they could only come up with a term to cover the lack of predicted superhurricanes hitting the coasts, they'd be so happy! (You mean Katrina wasn't a fluke????)

This is already, by far, the most expensive scandal in science and they want to make it extraordinarily more expensive.
I think we need to teach more geology in middle and high school science classes. Since life evolved on earth CO2 has ranged to much higher levels than now and life was thriving. The atmosphere is currently near the low end of the historical range.
Looking at the geologic record of estimated CO2 and temps, it does not seem that higher CO2 causes higher global temperatures. Higher CO2 levels would be beneficial to plant growth.

Global Warming, Al Gore and their supporters are soon going to be punch lines.
That will be a fitting way for history to remember them.

Hey, maybe it's magic or what was it.. a trick, a hat trick with a hockey stick? Please, when attempting to use logic, use your mind and not your dick or if you happen to be standing near a Republican he or she can help you out of your dogmatic left wing bleating. Your hope and change is fast becoming rope and chains!
Next time if ever, they will remember NOT to leave secure data on a forward facing server. This gives new meaning to cloud computing. I cannot help myself, I am elated, joyful, and thankful that these charlatans have been exposed. Joy to the world!

No problem. All those SO2 scrubbers that were retrofitted on to coal-burning power plants and copper smelters in the '70's? Turn 'em off.

Phil Jones says
"half the years to 2014 would exceed the warmest year currently on
> > record, 1998!"
The warmest year on record is NOT 1998; it is now recognised as 1934.

Daddy, why are we killing the polar bears with global warming ?
Oh sweetie, come here and sit down for a minute. You see, certain scientists told the world some lies about this thing called global warming. Then, leaders from around the world supported those lies and told more lies of their own. Even our leaders here in America told us lies to about how this made-up thing would hurt people.
Look peanut, these people did a really bad thing. Their lies have cost trillions of dollars and wasted peopleÂ’s time and energy all around the world. But now these bad people have been caught lying so donÂ’t worry, the polar bears will be fine and we will all be ok.
Now I want you to go out and play and stop thinking about this stuff some people at school and other places have put in your head. Go out and have fun and just remember, donÂ’t tell lies, they might affect the whole world someday.

I think what we really need to be teaching is skepticism and bullshit analysis.
Posted by: profligatewaste at November 28, 2009 06:11 AM (b3rrc)
It also has to do with competitive advantage. Walmart and GE, for example, can afford higher fines, fees, and taxes, which their smaller rivals could not. Don't be fooled: large corporations want nothing resembling a free market. Competition is bad for them, and extreme legislation is a powerful tool to keep them on top.

Not all schools teach the party line. I had a nephew attending UNC at Wilmington. He attended a required course in climatology and on his first day the instructor asked how many people believed in "global warming" and then how many believed it was caused by man.
He said nearly everyone raised their hands for both. When asked how many did NOT believe in it he said he was the only one who raised his hand.
The instructor then said he was the only one who was right. He then told them they would learn why he was right during the class.

Ah, and to think it was only a week ago that I first learned about this whole thing. And where did I learn it? On the ONT. And have then watched the whole deal unravel in real time.
Good times during a great week.
But I'll disagree about the MSM not covering this, at least so far. They are going to have no choice. Even now if you glance around, especially at the on-line sites of a number of papers, you see people jumping all over some fool editorial or story about GW. Here and in Britain. So against their will, the MSM will be dragged into this. The question of course will be how they handle it. This Sundays' talk shows should be interesting.
But I don't see it going away for the near future at all.

The indoctrination of our young'ns is pretty effective. My nieces' (ages 5 and 11) absolutely love a show called "Fetch" that airs on PBS in the afternoon.
I've been keeping an eye on it ever since I saw the show's characters talking about how driving cars and littering can be measured in pounds of carbon and how kids can help teach adults to reduce their carbon footprint, I shit you not.

They lied, we all know they lied, they know we know they lied - it is even in writing. But the gvt and the msm act as if GW is still fact and we are just to accept it and act accordingly.
Just like we are supposed to believe Islam is a religion of peace in spite of all their murdereous rampages accross the globe.
Posted by: lan sing at November 28, 2009 06:25 AM (cEOZd)
There is a common thread in all the important global issues that are facing the world. This common thread is world control. The world leaders are in effect being brain-washed into relinquishing their duties to protect their respective nations in the name of doing something for the higher good.
This would be all well and good if it could be believed that scientists are acting in the peopleÂ’s best interests. But, since when have scientists been assumed to be altruistic? Why is it accepted that they will only act in the best interests of humans? And why should it be accepted that the scientists are correct about human causes of global warming?
Are not scientists responsible for developing biological, chemical, nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction that have been used to control, bully, harm or destroy certain groups and places? It is not so far fetched to say that many scientific developments are amoral.
So, should world leaders turn over their moral consciences to scientists who are knowingly or unwittingly working for the ruling elite? The ruling elite have their own agenda, which is definitely not in the best interests of the people.
The carbon-trading schemes, and other emissions-based solutions presented by the ruling eliteÂ’s scientific doomsdayers, will not solve global warming climate change. But, if they get their way, they will change the lives of people for the worse. That is part of the ruling eliteÂ’s agenda.

The shocker was that NONE of the other panelists thought the emails showed that a fraud existed. The most that anyone would say was "if you beleieve the e-mails or not" it is still too expensive and we need to let the free market decide on cleaning up the carbon.
IOW, Fox is still pushing the AGW scam.
BTW, the previous topic was huge deficits. The Democrap scrunt said it was Bush's fault for spending too much on the military.

They lied, we all know they lied, they know we know they lied...
It's funny you say this and then mention Islam. Arabs, especially muslim arabs, are the biggest liars. It's part of their culture. You ever get into an argument with an Arab, perhaps a cab driver or a nitwit at a gas station? It's pointless. They lie to each other, they lie to outsiders. And they know we know it's all lies. As they say on The Wire: "It's how they do."
I've often compared today's Palestinians to the Leftists. Both groups lie their asses off, have no interest in coexisiting with other groups and wold rather enslave or kill their politcal/religious enemies, when they get caught doing evil they portray themselves as the victims, and use propaganda to advance their agenda.

The RNC needs to immediately put together a sensible actions list that discusses planet stewardship and conservation, things people certainly believe and will get behind. The list should emphasize AGW's hoaxieness, but that we can still be VOLUNTARY conservationists with regards to water, air, etc.
Let people be set their own course.

"I know the warming is on the decadal scale, but it would be nice to wear their smug grins away."
What he's saying here is that he knows he can still tell the rubes we're still warming because he can include 1998 in his numbers. He is well aware the clock is ticking on that one but for now it'll suffice as long as his audience is uninformed.
He really needs another fluke year like 1998 to pop up about now. Even though he's pretty flip in this mail, you can smell desperation.

"Thanks Keith,
I just read your email after reading the others. We actually eliminate records with negative correlations (this is mentioned breifly in the GRL article,), and we investigated a variety of weighting schemes to assure the basic robustness of the composite--but I certainly endorse your broader point here. Many of these records have some significant uncertainties or possible sources of bias, and this isn't the place to get into that." - Michael Mann, 24 Jun 2003.

But even when they do hear it, they seem to ignore it. The Indonesian imbecile said, "... under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket", and that was before the general election. Of course, this is the same third-world fool who claimed that 10,000 people were killed in the Kansas tornado (when the real number was 12), claimed that foot amputations cost "30,000, 40,000, even $50,000" (when the true cost is around $1,000), claimed that unemployment wouldn't go over 9% even if the Porkulus wasn't passed and would stay around 8% if it was, talked about "profit and earnings ratios" ...
I still don't understand how someone can say so many incredibly stupid things in public and still show his face. It's unbelievable.

A couple of years ago I looked at the code for NOAA's climate models(you had to apply to the priesthood to get access there too). They were no better than the Hack-O-Matic CRU stuff. Junk code full of bugs that looked like it was written by a college sophomore, completely ignorant of numerical methods, as a class project for a 2nd programming course.

"Fool. Their predictions that temperatures will rise again next summer are quite convincing."
I predict it will be colder. My predictions are as valid as theirs. Want to know why? Because both theirs and my data are made up.
The only difference between mine and theirs is that I admit it up front and they had to have a whistleblower\hacker expose them for the grifters they are.
You know what their "science" does? It makes their 30 years of data collection no better than my 25 seconds of "data collection".
Until they release ALL the raw data, methodology, algorithms, programs, data manipulations, and the justification the said manipulation, their "science" is no better than mine. Period.
A REAL scientist wil say the same.

You guys are absolutely correct. A real scientist who did not have a financial interest in the outcome would certainly hope that his or her doomsday prediction was wrong and would let every Tom Dick or Harry have a go at their method. But . . .
Posted by: Pelayo at November 28, 2009 05:27 PM (wwQxi)
Why? If you already have an effect from a technology (ie coal) that is known to be beneficial in a peculiar way, why wouldn't you want to maximize its effect at minimal cost compared to other proposals? (if indeed there really is a problem)
Coal may be "bad" for other reasons, but if its SO2 contribution overcomes its CO2 contribution, then for the duration that you're stuck with coal as a solution (think 20-30 year time frames), it makes perfect sense to optimize it.
