Quick Hits: Immunization Influencers Edition
— Ace

Who's offering this money to Instagram influencers to promote the vaccine?

CNN finds a religious figure it believes is worth coverage.

She's a leftwing pole dancer. So.

AP forbids use of the word "mistress," finding that it's gendered or sexist or whatever to call what is essentially a single-client prostitute by the kind euphemism "mistress."

Killer Cuomo, who has employed euthanasia/eugenics tactics against unwanted populations, also has an intense animosity towards Jews.

Go figure those two would be connected!

A leftwinger NPC is very Concerned that Greg Gutfeld is supposedly abandoning comedy in favor of political messaging.

As this guy points out: Weird, they never had a problem with Steven Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Samantha Bee, Seth Meyers, etc. doing just this.

"Scientific" American, which just last month announced its "scientific" findings that the release of true medical facts about the fatal overdose level of narcotics George Floyd swallowed might impact the trial of Derrick Chauvin, now makes the "scientific" announcement that they will henceforth refer to the theory of climate change as "climate emergency."

Good point: The panic pornographers who have ignored statistics for a year -- and imposed draconian lockdowns for a disease with a 99.8% survival rate, and continue keeping children out of school even though children cannot catch or transmit coronavirus at anything beyond a truly negligible, trivial rate -- are now fans of citing statistics to downplay the threat of clotting from the vaccines.

I agree with the basic idea that there are relatively few serious reactions to the vaccines, so the threat is minor.

Now, how about we apply this same statistics-based risk analysis to kids and schools?

Or nah?

Oh right, the teachers unions can't do math.

14 I don't know because I'm not on social media, but I imagine that paying social media "influencers" to pimp the vaccine is a pointless exercise. Aren't most people who follow these types on social media and likely to be influenced by them also more generally trend-followers or simps?

In other words, isn't paying social media "influencers" to flog the vaccine just ensuring that the government is paying good money to preach to the converted?

30 This is all being run from the shadows by Big Dictionary!
Forced for years to print the same book over and over, fighting the relative ease with which kids use google instead of their wood bricks, Webster's has engaged in a sinister, Machiavellian scheme to get all words changed from their original meaning to something else entirely.
This will boost sales by billions!, said Webster's CEO, Dick Sharpe

31 We've truly crossed the Rubicon. The media are no longer journalists and don't even feel compelled to be called such. They are openly advocates for the Democrat Party. The person who got the Brooklyn Center police chief fired was from the media. They objected to him calling it a "riot" which it clearly was. Same for the Brooklyn Center City Manager. Called out by someone in the media for calling a riot, a riot.
Why are Democrat Party advocates allowed to pose as, and be treated as impartial journalists? It's time to cancel these people.

Or just the abandonment of common sense risk balancing and context.

It's the abandonment of just about every bit of wisdom and science from a century of epidemiology and public health, things that basically started after the Spanish Flu, in their modern form.

"There are no historical observations or scientific studies that support the confinement by quarantine of groups of possibly infected people for extended periods of time in order to slow the spread of influenza."

53 Well, apparently the pastor does this pole dancing not in a raunchy club to supplement her pastoral salary but in a studio as a form of exercise, so it's not quite as bad as it seems. I did. laugh, though, that she does pole dancing-a full body workout-to" heal from the stresses of ministry." I am thankful-and everybody else would be too-that I DO NOT do pole dancing to heal from stress. I pray, meditate, read scripture, walk and look at nature. However, Rev. Moss is younger and fitter than I am.

152 For a long time, we have managed to allow anti-vaxxers (who normally fell in our liberal brethren's camp) to exist carefree in America b/c we have such a strong, supportive medical campaign for standard vaccines that the existing herd immunity can carry those not taking a shot.  All of those currently approved vaccines have risks to the takers, but most folks don't even give them a 2nd thought.  We just do them to maintain the public health, a public social good.
All of those standard diseases also originally had a "damn, this is still widely circulating" period until we got enough doses in enough arms.  Anything that slows that down now slows our path out of this - right now, everything, except Michigan and a few select places, was on a great track.
Maybe you want to stay on the sidelines, and you totally can do so.  But also advocating to others on the fence to stay on the sidelines just keeps us from getting to the final goal...and since we are out of power at all levels of the federal government, if we don't get to that goal, we risk much more than just a one-in-a-million chance of a rare side effect for ourselves and others.
Someone said Americans struggle with assessing risk...and we do (both personal risk and societal risk, in this case).  We also struggle with assessing reward, especially indirect ones for society.

Even so we have really had almost no disruption here at school from students or staff getting sick.
Vaccinations commenced in March. And many people have been getting them. I know because they can't shut up about it. I know vegans who are aren't as proud of their lifestyle choices than these people are about having chemicals tested on aborted babies injected into them.
So a lot of staff have been getting the jab. And apparently getting sick from it too because there have been a lot of subs and people at the doctor  More than ever had COVID. Enough that the superintendent sent out an email to everyone yesterday telling us all that sickness from the vaccine would be considered a"COVID related illness and to code their sick leave requests that way.

185 Since the "vaccines" were not tested as per usual, we are doing the actual testing now.
Thus it may be a few years before there is enough data on what the side effects are. Unless of course some become fatal.
There's a couple scientist at Harvard and MIT saying that the mRNA type "vaccines" do have the ability to change ones DNA. Apparently there can occur a reverse of what's supposed to happen and because it's unknown how any particular person's DNA was changed they can't tell what that may manifest as or when.

I have read that VAERS only captures about 1-2% of actual instances (human input required), and there are thousands of deaths, and tens of thousands of serious effects entered. It is disturbing how much pressure is being placed on injecting unapproved, never-before-used substances into humans.  I trust none of this.

Oh, I dunno about that, Ms. Harris. Could it be a factor that certain people - I'm not naming names, but they do *tend* to be aligned to a particular political party - have been denigrating black families, discouraging black reproduction and encouraging black abortion for so long? Could it possible be a factor that black reproductive health or encouraging prenatal care amongst the black population are not in any way, shape or form a policy priority because all policy efforts focus on abortion instead?

You know, kinda like this shit?

209 199 Chicken pox stats before vaccine...pretty much, only the immunocompromised had any real issues, unless you were really, really unlucky...but we found the common good worth it...
"The risk of complications from varicella varies with age. Complications are infrequent among healthy children. They occur much more frequently in persons older than age 15 years and infants younger than age 1 year. In the prevaccine era, approximately 10,500 persons with varicella required hospitalization each year. Hospitalization rates were approximately 1 to 2 per 1,000 cases among healthy children and 14 per 1,000 cases among adults. The fatality rate for varicella was approximately 1 per 100,000 cases among children age 1 through 14 years, 6 per 100,000 cases among persons age 15 through 19 years, and 21 per 100,000 cases among adults. Most deaths occur in immunocompetent children and adults. Since 1996, when the varicella vaccination program was implemented, hospitalizations and deaths from varicella have declined in the United States 93% and 94%, respectively."

234 Nova Loca, The problem with requiring vaccinations by law or by corporate/government fiat is that it is a blunt instrument.  People legitimately have different responses to vaccines, vaccines have differing levels of risks versus benefits, and last, but not least, vaccines have been given a special carveout to prevent vaccine manufacturers from being sued.  In addition, under rushed circumstances, a forced vaccination of people in order to keep their job, got to school, whatever, risks killing more people by side effects that it prevents in age groups that are very unlikely to have a serious case of Covid or death.
People under 60 have very low death rates even if they get Covid 19 and have a similar risk profile for hospitalization.  Furthermore, there is treatment for Covid that apparently works and prophylactics such as Ivermectin, Zithromax, and Plaquenil that are well tested and understood for reactions. That does not even include the newer Regeneron ,etc. treatments.
BTW, I got the vaccine because of my risk profile is abnormal due to prior medical conditions and my job exposes me to possible carriers.  Does not mean I would mandate or even shame others for making a different choice.
I seriously doubt you would like to volunteer for an experimental Ebola or HIV vaccination and that is basically what these vaccines are right now except for a much lower death rate overall.  Essentially the medical trial is being run on millions and we do not know what long term implications are of these vaccines. Those with a long life ahead of them and little risk of death or serious injury from getting Covid might well decide the risk of new untried vaccine technology is not worth it.  Someone who is in their seventies, has a different calculus of risk versus benefit.

They also used/use a vaccine using dead or weakened virus rather than the more complicated means of using a carrier to act on a cell to create a protein that is inimical to the targeted virus thus activating the immune system.
This may be proven a good thing as the old way of making a vaccine has lots of problems the main one these days being the time it takes to make them.Which is why if this mRNA vaccine proves out it will be a big moneymaker for whoever perfects it and patents it.
That said, we're part of the "Proving" that has to go on. Normally it would take years of well thought out tests using individuals selected and screened for both the control group and those that receive the vaccine. Out of an abundance of caution.
Which is why I have to laugh when they claim 6 people was enough for them to halt J&J. I'm guessing those are the documented cases but I bet they know of even more similar stories and that's why they're doing it for only 6.

testimonials as to the benefits of, and responsibility of getting the shot(s).

First out of the gate was the folksy redneck sounding dude. Followed by the vaguely Hispanic sounding couple. Next came the urban-sounding voices axing us to comply.
The current one is my favorite: Hollywood Indian. talking about elders, native culture responsibility to the tribe. At the end the native chants in the background lend an air of "authenticity".

I am eagerly awaiting the V 2.0 release of the last ad with the offer of a free blanket with every shot.

266 234 Exactly, I don't want any reason for anyone at the fed level to think any laws are needed right now to get us to the finish line.  But, it is the liberal playbook to think law and hammer 1st, and personal right 2nd.  Note where I live.  It's "seeing the field" and knowing we can get to herd immunity without the Biden folks thinking we need a hammer AND letting everyone who wants to pass on the vaccine pass.  As long as we don't rock the boat and start campaigning against.  It's one thing for folks to make their individual calls.  It's another to start a wave against.  Right now, if the feds were to use a hammer, I'm pretty sure the courts would support the hammer and then we'd have awful precedents that no court would ever overturn.
I support the vaccine, just like I did under Trump.  I support individual rights, just like I did under Trump.  I believe both can co-exist beautifully and do always.  I served in the military and got half of those vaccines no one else has ever heard of - maybe it's one reason I got blood cancer in my early 40's, but I doubt it.  Maybe it was the bases, but I doubt it.  Usually, I have much more faith in crappy genes being the cause of most crappy health outcomes.
PS - And with blood cancer, if there's more MRNA or dead virus vaccines even in test phase, I'm there.  I'll be 1st in line for the HIV one b/c I may need to use the blood supply in the future.

272 There are some areas in Africa that were the targets a few years ago for the vaccination push by NGOs backed by folks like Bill Gates that are being sued and getting some very bad pr from a lot of African DRs and Politicians who are saying that the vaccinations are/were responsible for an increase in infertility of women and that it was intentional.
You won't hear about this from our media and not much from western media at all. One thing to notice is that Africa is a low  virus area. They haven't done much (probably because they got put off vaccinations because of the above) and they don't have much which is what the states in the US who now have low death rates did too.
The states that have attacked the virus are the states with the most deaths and sickness.
Maybe just not isolating people has some advantages.

So I hear. I got it, because my college made me. I was exposed to chicken pox as a kid and I apparently contracted it in some form because I got (and it's on my paper medical records that my mom kept) one single solitary chicken pock.

My college (residential college with dorms) objected to my declaration that I had already contracted chicken pox and they insisted that I get vaccinated against it before they would matriculate me. It was safe and cheap and had a good track record so I didn't object - I just found it very curious.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at April 13, 2021 04:44 PM (Jsjd7)

287 I'm not here to tell you should get the vaccine... but... this:
188There are a lot of reactions (not just 6 blood clots), both serious and not, to all of the shots. I have read that VAERS only captures about 1-2% of actual instances (human input required), and there are thousands of deaths, and tens of thousands of serious effects entered. It is disturbing how much pressure is being placed on injecting unapproved, never-before-used substances into humans. I trust none of this.
Just doesn't track.  I can understand not trusting the government.  Most of us don't in some capacity or other.  But then complaining that a vaccine is 'unapproved'...

A:  Its been approved by the FDA or you wouldn't be able to inject it in the public.
B: It may not have gone through the normal redtape laced approval process, but thats not the same as unapproved.

The amount of conspiracy theory about the vaccines is kinda insane.  As are the stories it generates... almost like COVID itself.  If you start sounding like a Karen when explaining why you won't get a vaccination you should probably re-consider your reasoning.

Believing you yourself are not in a risk category, and are not worried about something with a fatality rate thats like .02 percent is enough.  You don't need to go looking for lizard people.

297 Back just to emphasize the "six clots" do not represent the depth and breadth of bleeding and clotting issues with J&J or even the mRNA vaccines.
It's a special kind of clotting, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, clots in the vessels draining the brain a deadly kind, unusual, because it occurs with low platelets and heparin is the absolute wrong treatment. One "feature"of is an antibody response to platelet factor 4 that develops in some individuals treated with heparin.
Astra Zeneca recipients had this same kind of rare clot, they haven't yet been seen with the mRNA vaccines, though all vaccines have had incidents of messed up platelets, clots and microclots, bruising, "COVID Toes" - and J&J recipients have anecdotally reported abnormal early and or heavy and or painful periods, and some incidents of uterine bleeding near the vaccination in post menopausal women who haven't had a period in years.
I don't blame any woman from hanging back from J&J until they sort out cause and effect, and who is susceptible and who can be tested to avoid risk.

Posted by: sarahw at April 13, 2021 06:25 PM (g1vnC)

298 Fwiw the menstrual cycle f-ups are not the kind of thing that a woman might necessarily connect to vaccination, so it might be under-reported in the voluntary follow-on forms recipients are invited to fill out.
The deadly "six clots" clogging up brain veins may only affect reare individuals but there might be some platelet issues that are more widespread.
