Rasmussen: Strong Disapproval Now Eclipses Barack's Total Approval, Strong and Weak
— Ace

The "intensity index" is at -21, the worst yet, as Obama's strong disapproval hits 46% and his strong approval is 25. Total approval 44%, total disapprove 56%.

In polling jargon, this is known as a "B+" rating:

For the second straight day, the update shows the highest level of Strong Disapproval yet recorded for this President. That negative rating had never topped 42% before yesterday. However, it has risen dramatically since the Senate found 60 votes to move forward with the proposed health care reform legislation. Most voters (55%) oppose the health care legislation and senior citizens are even more likely than younger voters to dislike the plan.

One bright spot in the numbers for the President is that 51% of voters still say former President George W. Bush is more to blame for the nationÂ’s economic woes. Just 41% point the finger of blame at the current President.

That's not really so bright. The number isn't high, and it will get lower, and as it does, Obama's numbers sink further.

I should say for a long time I've been sort of blowing off the intensity index, figuring it was mostly Rasmussen's attempt at branding, at providing its own stat. A pollster tells me no, this is a very common metric among pollsters, and Rasmussen's innovation here is pushing that number out to the public, rather just among clients commissioning the poll.

It doesn't matter, of course. Now that Obama has found 60 votes for a bill no one wants, his approval rating will skyrocket up to 60%, or something.

1 Shit - I would have killed to have a 44% count as a B+ in college...

Economic woes?

Why that makes no sense. Obama and the media have told us we've been in recovery since June. There are no more economic woes.

I think Obama has managed to con himself ...  most con artists are self aware enough to recognize their own scam and are careful to stay on message and be consistant with their story.  Obama has managed to be on the wrong side of every event of his young presidency.  From jobs, to the stimulus, to the health care debate he has managed to have a tin ear to the real world.  Every time he speaks in public he appears more and more disconnected from the real world and closer and closer to the world of Joe Biden.

He must have thought all he needed to do was keep up the facade until the election and then he could just do as he pleased once in the White House.

Who could have thought that a child with no real world management or business experience would be a rotten leader ?

Someday the Democrats will field a truely gifted African American leader and that man or woman will be saddled with the curse of possibly being "just another Obama" flash in the pan of all sizzle and no steak.

16 This Asshat is my Congressman. I attended two of the rowdy town halls. He took a lot of heat.  The key thing he kept repeating was that his vote is not for sale but then went on to explain the reason he voted for Nancy P was that she promised him a committee assignment.  I called his office everyday this past summer and I always ended the call with this question..... "if he is not for the Dem's agenda why is he a Democrat?"  They always answered with the line that more can be accomplished from within the party than from the outside.  There is no doubt he heard footsteps and decided to jump.  I do not like him but this is a good move for us as a conservative movement at this point in time.

I just PRAY that these low approval ratings stop congress from passing amnesty. If we get our economy back on track, with a good dose of energy independence we can handle thie debt.

BUT, if we give amnesty to 30 million illegals, then there is nothing we can do at that point. GOP is finished and the command and control economy will live forevor.

18 I have heard this called the "Abyss index". It's now at -2. What it means is that there are now fewer people who say "meh, he's OK" than "I hate that sonofabitch". These numbers are a huge change from yesterday. With the 3-day rolling average, that means either a blip or more to come. Since yesterday was a dip too, I'm thinking more to come. Gallup should reflect the same thing, probably in a few days.

19 Does this in any way affect Barry's solid B+?

Posted by: TheQuietman at December 22, 2009 08:08 AM (1Jaio)

20 When the Republicans take control of both houses why not pass a rule change that forbids anyone who is a member of the Democrat party from taking a seat in congress.

There is a precedent for that too.  While the Dems are all out of office they can then pass numerous constitutional amendments. There's precedent for that as well.

Ace:  Serious question:

This sounds good and all, but the RCP poll has the President's overall approval rating at around +5%.

Soooo...as one who is not all that wise when it comes to polls, is the RCP poll a composite (as I think it is), and if so, how to line it up with the Rasmussen poll?  How good/bad are they relatively speaking?

Posted by: The Laughing Man at December 22, 2009 09:32 AM (H9TYl)

28 rasmussen called the 2008 and 2004 elections almost exactly. I would trust them over an average of left wing polls.

The other polls are shit. Rass was the most accurate in the last two elections.  RCP leans left and likes the other polls.

Didn't Twain say something about 'lies, damned lies, and statistics'?

Polls - on both sides - mean zero. A president's poll numbers going down after he's elected is newsoworthy like the sun rising in the east. It's been happening since Eisenhower.
