Revealed: Obamacare is Still Very Unpopular, and No Prog "Unskewing" of the Polls Can Change That
— Ace

A much-publicized Washington Post/ABCNews poll claimed that Obamacare had suddenly garnered near-majority support from the country.

But a new USAToday poll finds that Obamacare is as unpopular as it's been for years, so that ABC poll was, as many suspected, simply an outlier, the 1-in-20 they mean when they warn that 1-in-20 times the poll will simply be wrong.

USAToday finds that Obamacare is at 37% approval, 50% disapproval, in line with all other polls. Except for that one ABC one.

And even worse, a majority says that Obamacare will have a major impact on how they vote this November.

Now progs are doing what progs will do, which to attempt to prove how clever they are by demonstrating that facts are not facts at all, but social constructs we invent in our minds to justify racism or something.

You prove your cleverness by saying things which aren't true, but which aren't true in a clever way.

They're claiming that a majority actually supports Obamacare... or, rather, supports either Obamacare or a more leftwing alternative. They're adding that 37% support for Obamacare to another figure that says something like 12% would prefer a "more liberal" law, and coming up with 49% in favor of Obamacare or something even worse.

You will not be surprised that the neutral, objective news organization CNN is pushing this Conspiracy Theory of Numbers.

At Mediaite, Noah Rothman calls this twaddle, citing, as his chief analyst, the rightwing hatchetmen at... Huffington Post and 538.com.

Recently, partnering with the polling firm YouGov, Huffington Post polling analyst Mark Blumenthal attempted to duplicate CNN’s method of divining support for the ACA among those who do not support the ACA. To clarify CNN’s findings, he performed one extra step. “In your own words,” HuffPost asked select respondents, “what do you mean when you say the health care law is not liberal enough?”

“[V]ery few said they opposed the law because they would prefer a ‘single payer’ system (6 percent of those answering) or would prefer either the ‘public option’ or an alternative to ensure “healthcare for all” (4 percent),” Blumenthal revealed.

A much larger portion of the not-liberal-enough group referenced high costs (15 percent), the mandate to purchase health insurance (12 percent), or more general complaints about a lack of choice or too much government control (13 percent).
“I don’t think forcing everyone to buy insurance is liberal at all,” one respondent told Blumenthal.

“Liberal means choice to me at least and it leaves us no choice, we are forced to buy insurance we may neither need or want,” another said.

These are not promising results for the set of ACA supporters who had convinced themselves they were members of a new silent majority.

Remember, there's a Wonk Gap, and there's a situation of Asymmetrical Stupidity, and they're just smarter than you, so shut your stupid mouths and go back to blowin' on your whiskey jugs, you unlettered, unshoed Unpeople.

Spoiler Alert: They don't seem to mean what progs believe they mean.

The fact that the occasional pollster gets too wired on coke or caffeine and lets their ideological winkie out of their pants does not make "normal" polls precisely representative or relevant. 41 I mentioned this yesterday, but I think it applies here. Some woman in Florida died. Apparently she made too little for the subsidy, yet too much for medicaid. Had Florida expanded medicaid, she presumably could have gotten coverage. Obviously, the liberals are blaming Republicans for not expanding medicaid, and not Obama and Co for writing the law with the gigantic coverage gap to begin with. It's percolating at Daily Kos/Huffpo/Some website called The Wire, but I'm sure it will be the next point of attack. You know, because Republicans are to blame for a law written by democrats, and passed by demorcrats, including this gap provision designed only to cheat the CBO scoring to make a cheap campaign applause line.

Given what we've been hearing about anticipated pricing for next year, all of those people are going to be in a very nasty mood come the 1st of November. The far left (and by extension the left in general) believe that Their Policies will eventually usher in Heaven on Earth. It is a form of religious belief. Now, part of the condition for this is We All Have To Work Together. If some people won't do that, they are literally Keeping Us Out Of Heaven. Which begins to explain the periodic madness of the left when they have near-total power over something, and yet they are clearly not in Heaven, so they start purging and slaughtering dissenters. I mean, let's say for a second another person could choose whether you went to Heaven or not, and they refused to cooperate. That's a pretty big deal, right? 79 13 percent of Republicans said Obamacare didnÂ’t go far enough in changing health care. true. Like, in deregulating it and decoupling subsidizes. Sort of, how I didn't go far enough in my last marathon, mostly because I didn't start it.

80 Teresa @45: I think it's a function of the extent to which the OCare and individual pool creates an influence on what I'll call "the rest of the risk pool". We already know that even if you had the 7.5m sign ups paid in full that the early demographic numbers were ugly concerning the number of young healthy people in the OCare pool, and that this would negatively influence prices in both this pool and the individual market. What isn't clear is the extent this will pressure higher rates on larger pool customers (those with coverage but exempt). If there is pressure, you're spot on.

I'm assuming that's because out here in the relatively low cost Midwest, we're subsidizing all the people in District one.

113 Somewhere way back I wrote a long essay examining the bizarre fallacy that intentionally skewing polls intended to sway public opinion simply doesn't work as the libs imagine it does. Here's a very small sampling from it: "Implicit in the Left's continuous attempts to exaggerate Obama's perceived support is the belief that "a crowd draws a crowd" and that undecided voters will be drawn to the Obama camp if they think "everyone else" is supporting him. But is that an accurate assessment? Is there any evidence that it's true? Well, actually, yes. There is evidence. Or should I use scare quotes: "evidence." I believe that a series of experiments carried out in the 1950s by social psychologist Solomon Asch were in fact the (now long-forgotten) inspiration for and justification for the current strategy, especially the strategy of online opinion-poll-stuffing after debates and other major news events. Starting in 1951, Asch, a professor at Swarthmore College, ran a series of unusual experiments to generate a quantitative measurement of the subjective term "conformity." The experiments, which many now consider somewhat unethical and a bit sadistic, went like this: A volunteer was recruited to participate in a vision test. He was brought to a room with seven other volunteers who were also to take the same test, in a group. Little did the volunteer know, however, that his fellow "volunteers" were all confederates of the experimenter, and the test was not a vision test but a psychological torture session designed to elicit conformist behavior. The experimenter would then unveil a pair of displays, one showing a single black line, and the other showing three black lines of varying lengths. The volunteer is told to simply state which of the three lines most closely matches the length of the single line. Sounds simple, right? In every instance, the correct answer was quite self-evident, as only one of the lines was even close to the correct length. The volunteer, who was always placed in the second-to-last position, was only allowed to state his answer after he had heard most of the other faux-volunteers give their answers. For the first two rounds, these confederates were instructed to give the obviously correct answer; in each instance, the test subject would then also give the correct answer. But starting on the third round, the confederates, as instructed by Asch, intentionally gave a consistently wrong answer; the goal of the experiment was to see if the volunteer would "break" and also begin to chime in with the wrong answer as well. Most volunteers would resist for a few rounds, but eventually the majority would cave in at least part of the time and give the wrong answers in complete defiance of their own perceptions. Overall, the test subjects gave the wrong answers 36.8% of the time -- an astonishing result. What would you do if you had the ability to conduct this "experiment" on a vast scale? And if the results of the experiment were not just of academic interest, but affected the real world? What would you do if you had a monopoly on the media, and could affect each individual's perception of how the general public felt? You could take the Asch experiment nationwide. You could deceive every single individual voter into thinking he was all alone in his opinions. And consequently, due to social pressures to conform, they'd change their allegiances. You could use it to win elections. That's the position in which the Left -- the Obama campaign, its supporters, and the liberal media -- imagine themselves to be. They're trying to use the principle of behaviorial conformity as a weapon in the campaign. But there is a terrible flaw in their plan. The Asch experiment doesn't work unless the test subject is unaware that he is being duped. And I'm telling the subject right now: you're being duped. " ...etc.

They're getting expensive HIV-AIDS drugs at a whopping four times the national average.

So, given that HIV-AIDS is essentially completely avoidable in 99% of instances with ordinarily prudent behavior, and has been that way for decades, what Obamacare comes down in this instance to is a massive subsidy to the imprudent idiots who shot up with dirty needles or screwed strangers without condoms. 212 So I said: "The other very interesting Obamacare news of the week is that data have begun to trickle in from the pharmaceutical fulfillment side of health care, about the type of prescriptions that Obamacare patrons are filing to be filled."

Also -- and who could have seen this shocking plot twist coming -- Obamacare patrons are also getting prescriptions for narcotic painkillers at way above the national average.

As anyone who is familiar with the Medicaid patient population will know, there is incredibly widespread abuse of that system by "disadvantaged patients to access and resell narcotics. Some docs shun Medicaid populations specifically because they don't want the hassle and the license risks of dealing with so many drug seekers in their office.

I've heard it called "pharming". People go to the doc, feign soft tissue injuries and chronic pain, get scripted for popular narcotics like Oxycontin, and they then turn around and resell the pills on the street for a large pocket profit.

So Obamacare is just further expanding that already well entrenched system of abuse, and sticking the rest of us with the bills for the discount pills that will be resold to junkies. A triumph of liberalism.

I suspect that once again, surplus French nuclear electricity is going to be the thing which saves the rest of Europe from outright energy supply disaster. But, there won't be enough of it to go round, and it can't replace gas for everything, so there are going to be hard, hard times coming.
