— Ace It's on.
Governor Charlie Crist and former state House Speaker Marco Rubio are now tied in the 2010 race for the Republican Senate nomination in Florida.A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely GOP Primary voters finds Crist and Rubio each with 43% of the vote. Five percent (5%) prefer another candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.
...RubioÂ’s name recognition has grown in recent months and he is now viewed Very Favorably by 34% of Likely Primary Voters. ThatÂ’s up from 18% in August. As his name recognition increased, RubioÂ’s support in the polls has jumped from 31% in August to 43% today.
Rubio's website, including donation page, is here.
No doubt David Frum is lying in the fetal position bemoaning the death of the GOPs big tent.

He's doing great. Just completed live fire week, started confidence course yesterday. Last two weeks of training are Day Movement, and then the "final exam", the Crucible. He's letters are filled with excitement and confidence. Just hope and pray he doesn't get injured at some point and have to be held back.
Was allowed to send him a "goody box" with his waterproof watch and some toiletries. Got that off today. Graduates in four more weeks. His dad and I can hardly wait.

And if Crist switches parties, as most people now expect, chalk this up as another lost Republican seat. I am getting so sick and fucking tired of people pushing a candidate that has much, much less of a chance to win in the general election because Crist, who is solidly fucking conservative the majority of the fucking time, pissed them of on a couple of issues. If Rubio wins the primary, get used to hearing Senator Meek or Senator Crist, because Crist will just fucking switch parties or declare himself an independent, and Rubio will lose.
We need all the Republican votes in the Senate we can get, but some people would rather the Democrats keep sixty fucking seats, a majority that can't be stopped, if it means that the Republican party is purged of people who can actually fucking win in various states. I despise David Frum and all his bullshit about how terrible the Republican Party is becoming, but sometimes the guy is fucking right. Idiots who declare "I am more concerned with defeating establishment Republicans than I am some far-left wacko Democrat" are not fucking helping anybody; that means you Erick Erickson. If we had an extra centrist Republican in the Senate, this health care bill would be going down in flames. Some people refuse to believe that it is more advisable to have someone who votes with you 80%, or even 60% of the time, than it is to have someone who never fucking votes with you ever and rubber stamps every statist piece of shit the Democrats push.
Crist will switch parties over this, guaranteed. Fuck, various blogs, such as Hotair, are gambling as to when it will happen rather than if. And when that happens, we lose another Republican seat.
Who are you people going to push next? Rand Paul in KY, my home state? He has about as much fucking chance of winning as I do.

Given the trend in the polling, IMO, Rubio has a much better chance than Crist in the general. As a Floridian in East Orlando, I can safely say a charismatic well-spoken Hispanic who wows the ladies while dishing all the right Republican principles will win 80% of the vote in my neighborhood. What you write actually makes some sense. But the problem is, it also cuts both ways. So sure maybe we get Senator RINO who's willing to vote no on socialized medicine. But we also get Senator RINO who deigns to lecture us about how uncooth and full of troglodytes his own base is. We also get Senator RINO who comes up with his own socialist hare-brained scheme - THAT HAS THE REPUBLICAN LABEL ON IT. And by doing so he tarnishes and brings down the reputation of all conservatives. Case in point: Medicare Part D. A bad bad BAD idea. And it will forever be remembered as a REPUBLICAN bad idea because REPUBLICANS were the ones who pushed it through, even though the idea comes straight from the Democrat playbook.
You cannot have one without the other.

Meek will not win, regardless of who the GOP nominee is. Crist will not switch parties in and run in the Dem primary. He just won't: although he is a RINO, he also has been a Republican all his political life and has a loyalty to the brand that, say, Arlen Specter, who was first elected Philadelphia DA as a Dem, doesn't have.
Given that, the alternative you seem to be proposing is 1) Crist and Rubio both stay in and file in the R primary, 2) Rubio wins the nomination and then 3) Crist runs as an independent, and either wins, or splits the vote to allow Meek to win. That isn't going to happen either, not least of which because the qualifying deadlines under Florida election law make it outright impossible.

"If Rubio wins the primary, get used to hearing Senator Meek or Senator Crist, because Crist will just fucking switch parties or declare himself an independent, and Rubio will lose."
(A) Both Crist and Rubio beat Meeks handily in all the polls I've seen. (B) Apparently, you aren't aware of something we Floridians call the "Sore Loser Law". See, if you switch parties close to an election, you are barred from the ballot. Crist is welcome to flip if he likes. But he would then torpedo his own campaign. May as well drop out instead.

A guy who would switch in a snit fit would switch after being elected with a nice committee chair or some other bribe. And after taking the bribe, Frum, Allah, and the other liberals would bemoan that we drove another "moderate" away.
Little Big Concern Troll knows that.

Rubio is an unknown entity in Florida. The problem that I have with him already is that he is being promoted by two radio talk show hosts, both of whom admit to being Libertarians, and both of whom have been known to exercise flaky judgement; e.g., they were McCain and not Bush supporters.
As I implied in post #172, I'm by no means a Crist supporter. But too little is known about Rubio to make a good evaluation of his potential.
Your comments about Meeks and his mother were funny, and right on the money.

I heard Rubio on the Jason Lweis show last week and the guy said all the right things. He was sharp, had a message that I agreed with, and could express himself clearly and assertively.
I thought to myself "this guy needs to be President." "Wouldn't it be awesome if he could win a Senate seat and then get elected POTUS two years after that."
Then I thought "naa. That could never happen."
Good luck Florida.

Frankly, I'm tired of the establishment Republicans taking advantage of conservatives. I, for one, am leaving that abusive relationship. All voting for establishment Republicans got us was a big, bloated federal government; just at a slower pace than the Democrats would have done.
Not being a Floridian, I'm unfamiliar with Rubio. However, knowing that Crist was the establisment Republican choice before the primary tells me that Crist is a douchebag. The fact that Crist is plummeting in the polls in Florida, tells me that Floridians think he is douchebag, too. That is enough for me to vector Rubio $25.
The establishment Republicans do not understand or do not have the mindset to comprehend that the United States is in a struggle for survival. The Founders intended the federal government to have limited powers. It has usurped those powers from the states. We need people that see that the individual liberty is being crushed for the "good" of the collective and be willing to fight for the rights of the individual. We don't need people whose goal is to be liked by Democrats.
