— DrewM Pretty much a foregone conclusion.
The only drama is will a Republican bail? Did history call?
They just wheeled Byrd in.
Sounds like all the Republicans stuck together (Collins and Snow stuck with the team), though I don't think Voinivich voted one way or the other. They are holding the vote because I don't think everyone got there.
It was a straight party line vote. Voinivich didn't vote but it didn't matter either way.
Just to be clear what this vote is...there's a motion to proceed on the floor. Under Senate rules the debate on that could go on forever. This is cloture motion allowing a vote on the motion to proceed.
While it's a cloture vote, it's not the one we normally think of. That one is to end debate and vote on the bill itself. That will be the next vote. It will come in a couple of weeks after debate and amendments.
Look, this is not good but there are at least 2 more 60 vote votes on this. The next will be on the cloture motion to end debate. That's when most of these things get killed (if they are going to) after that it will go to conference with the House, that will be another 60 vote opportunity.
This isn't good news but it's not the end by a long shot.

Sorry for the f bomb, but it is appropriate!! I will join whomever wins in the primary on the repub side in the fight against that monstrosity harry reid. one of my friends has a small biz, he has about 15 employees right now, he has no insurance coverage, but he made sure his employees have some coverage.
He's barely hanging on, he's cut hours, he's even cut some salaries, he is barely breaking even, barely. He told me last week, if they pass this shit of a bill with all the taxes and mandates, he will be be laying off 2 people within the next 2 weeks.
He doesn't want to, but has no choice, his revenues are way down, as are the the other businesses that order from him, they are all barely hanging on by a couple of threads, BARELY.
by next year, unemployment will be over 12%. and accelerating.
These fuckers have NO clue how hard it is to start, and grow and manage a business. Let the leeches have at it, more and more businesses will either go bancrupt or leave the country.

If the moderates always figure out a way to vote that allows the liberals to triumph, then they aren't really moderates, are they?
Rush has been calling passage of Obamacare and end-game showdown. I'll be interested to see if he retires when this passes.
Make no mistake, final passage is a foregone conclusion. Every step moderates allowed this to take was one step too many and we've slipped into the abyss.
And just think, Senator Snowe could have kept this thing locked up in committee, but thought her ability to say "no" later mattered. How's that working out for us, Senator?

If this bill passes, Democrats will get special health care, I'm sure. No one will tell Ted Kennedy or Robert Byrd, "Time's up!" If you're a conservative or a Republican (a non-RINO), too bad, looks like we're all out of that medicine.
That will certainly be an aspect of that. Not so much the "taking control of the stupid masses that elected me," stuff, but the polically motivated way health care will be distributed. "So, you had unprotected sex with schoolboys and your AIDS is worse now? Step right up! You, on the other hand, ate bacon a lot? William Wallace: Slaves are made in such ways. The last time Longshanks spoke of peace I was a boy. And many Scottish nobles, who would not be slaves, were lured by him under a flag of truce to a barn, where he had them hanged. I was very young, but I remember Longshanks' notion of peace.

last year, I have always been a conservative, but I am not a social conservative, which is why I registered as a democrat (I am now a registered independent). I could not vote for a friends-with-terrorists self-avowed Marxist.
There are only 2 republicans I voted for in my democrat-registered lifetime, Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin. These are the only 2 politicians I have ever felt will put the country before any damn party.

Sounds like wishful thinking, as there are some ways to get around that. Reconciliation for one thing. I don't think the socialists will mind not having the public option now if the machinery and new taxes are in place...
In the end, there will be only chaos.

Imagine our Army infiltrated by Hasan and other islamists until they made up 60% of the Officer Corps. They wouldn't feel the need to attack the Army internally. They would need to "help" the civilians with our domestic crime problem. Whether we wanted it or not.

the chinease are extremely worried. When has the US ever been questioned about it domestic policies when abroad?
a chinease stupid asked the Marxist how the deathcare bill would be paid for. Think about that for a second, another country asking about America's domestic policy and how America indeeds to pay for it?
umeployment will be between (just official numbers)12- 13 % next year, biz will leave this country, we will be about 14 trillion in debt, and the chinease will say essentially the US dollar can no longer be relied as the reserve currency, they will just declare it.

1. A Dem Senator with a Republican Gov resigns, has a heart attack, a DUI into the Potomac.
2. 30+ State Legislatures pass Article 5 instructions calling for a convention to get the Feds out of health care; and one Dem blinks.
3. The Health Insurance firms send out SOX notices of the risks and costs to every one of their customers and there are literally riots in the streets.
4. Complete economic collapse due to very weak holiday sales, negative T bill yields, another surge in foreclosures, higher unemployment, and an Iranian influenced oil spike - just overshadows it and there are riots in the streets.
5. One Dem Senator has a visitation.
6. Asteroid
Just some off-the-cuff happy thoughts.

I just find it so hard to believe that this vote is even legal. And I see the life that both my wife and I worked so hard to achieve circling the drain.
The only way it can be undone is with a super-majority vote to override what would be a guaranteed veto by ObamaÂ…. after 2012Â…. probably still a super-majority to overcome a filibuster by the democrats.

Bush was more conservative down here than in DC, so people thought Perry would follow in his footsteps. Perry has been more squishy than most would care to admit, but he seems to be regaining his footing. Regardless, some people down here feel a sense of betrayal.
2nd problem: Cheney endorsed Kay Bailey, & Sarah, Perry.
3rd: Debra Medina is more in-line w/ Ron Paul, but she does have small-government appeal.
I don't know what's going to happen w/ this one. It will be an interesting election.

At the end of the day, the people themselves are going to have to correct this by force, not just at the ballot box. That may not be good enough. Why do I think we are heading towards a real civil war? WeÂ’re at the breaking point.
Passage of this bill would not be the end of the legal conflicts. We have more to resent than the original founders suffered under King George. This is a similar threat to liberty itself–only worse. It is a step toward rationed care and governmental intrusion into the most private aspects of our lives. People are near the explosion-point as a consequence. I know I am.

If this passes I truly believe we will be in irreversible decline economically. There will be peaks and vallys but the trend will be down. Debt burden is too high, taxes too high, spending too high. It does not work.
Standard of living will decrease. Middle class will slowly shrivel.
I could go on but you get the idea.

Alaska - Mark Begich.

Arkansas - Mark Pryor.
Louisiana - Mary Landrieu.
Missouri - Claire McCaskill.
Montana - Max Baucus.
Montana - Jon Tester.

West Virginia - Robert Byrd.
West Virginia - Jay Rockefeller.
If the GOP had its act together enough to elect Republicans in six of these thirteen cases, Obamacare would be DOA.

National debt is 12 Trillion Dollars. I capitalized that because... it's.... big.
That's 1.2% of a QUADRILLION dollars.
And Obama's Democrats just more or less added trillions more in health care costs.

Most of Greece outside of Athens is a third world country. That ain't livin'.
Hell, Athens is a dump.
To be fair, Athens was never the same after Ares destroyed much of it and Athena (the patron goddess of Athens) was slain shortly afterwords.

Sort of dananjcon. It could be a lot of thing but would take levels of organizing that we've never seen the likes of in this country. It's basically getting state legislatures to petition Congress to convene to propose and amendment to the Constitution. The Federalism Amendment would be one way to go--essentially attempting to repeal the 16th amendment on income tax.
Hell, I'm a little loopy and I probably didn't explain that right. I'll try later when I have something other than booze in my bloodstream.

Drew~
According to Judd Gregg, there is only one more cloture vote, the one to end debate. Evidently, the bill coming out of conference can neither be amended nor filibustered.
The next cloture vote is the ONE.

Let me thank all the conservatives in Minnesota who were too pure to vote for McCain and stayed home in November 2008, thereby also not voting for Coleman, who should have beat Franken in a runaway..
And a shout-out to the conservative radio and TV personalities who got them thinking that way during the Spring and Summer of 2008, and then in October when they realized what a disaster Obama would be, it was too late to undo what they had started.
Well-done, all of you!

The Democrats have always had this warm and fuzzy image. They were the ones that sicced dogs on protesters, they were the ones always attracted to fascism, eugenics and all of the nasty stuff that went out of fashion.
Moreover, Democrats truly lie about what they intend to do. In fact, their base is perfectly comfortable with this deceit in a way that Republicans will not abide, even for strategy. What Republican runs to the left and then governs to the right? Nixon was famously slippery, but I would say that he governed to the left of his campaigning.
One thing I won't let people get away with is blaming this on "politicians". It isn't politicians. It's Democrats and it's non-conservative politicians generally. A genuine conservative may not be perfect, but his constituents will not long abide bad character.

Jean:
One more scenario for killing this....Recall petitions should be started in AR, LA and NE at the least. There is some controversy over whether or not you can recall a sitting U.S. Senator or Rep but if enough signatures were collected it might make them realize they are in serious trouble. The pressure on these Senators needs to come from inside their states.

It ain't just Minnesota. Lots of people treated their vote like a fat girl treats her virginity. She tells anybody who will listen that they aren't good enough to receive it long after even the most unattractive boys have stopped asking.
When conservatives tell a generally right-leaning politician that he isn't perfect enough to get their vote, he'll go elsewhere and there are plenty of middle-of-the-roaders who are mercurial enough to be convinced to switch.

...because they want to pressure any potentially wavering senators not to change their vote when it actually counts.

Ok, if this shitbag bill passes, and in 11 months conservatives take back congress can we repeal this bill, since it doesn't go into effect for like 4 years and we'll only be paying taxes for it until then???
Will it be possible?

Perhaps if Obama still isn't President because he would veto any legislation passed by a GOP-led Congress trying to repeal the health care bill. After all, it's highly unlikely that even if the GOP won back control of Congress in 2010 their margin would be enough to override a presidential veto.
I never have faith that a government entitlement/program will ever be repealed because the millions of shiftless losers in this country that like the "free" crap they get from the government will continue to support it by voting for the same morons in Congress that supported this lousy, economy crushing legislation. I'm sick and tired of the lives of the productive members of society being dictated so significantly by the losers that act irresponsibly and can't take care of themselves. It's one thing to help the truly disabled members of our society but those that are lazy, in the country illegally, etc., deserve nothing, especially when it comes at the expense of hard-working Americans.
This whole thing makes me sick to my stomach.

Abject, total FEAR.
The full Trig/Bristol Palin, Joe the Plumber treatment to ALL of them. Landrieu, Lincoln, ALL OF THEM.
Find ever dirty thing, underhanded deal, crooked bargain, corrupt arrangement, embarrassing detail, ugly scandal, involving the Senators, their spouses, their children, their business partners, their backers.
Go AFTER THEIR BACKERS. Big Time, as Cheney would say. Boycotts, protests, lawsuits, and publicize ever bit of human failing of their backers and their families. Only massive FEAR and intimidation, coming from an "Army of Davids" can push this thing back.
Lets be honest -- this is about rationing health care for Whites so Mexican nationals who stepped over the border a year ago can have free health care. You, your parents, your spouse, your children, will die ugly, painful deaths easily avoided so someone who came to this nation illegally a short time ago from Mexico gets free health care. So pretty much ANY legal action is morally justified and appropriate.
Because the solution to National Health Care will not be repeal, but a "Whites Only" National Health Care ala the British National Party (which opined that NHS can be saved if only all immigrants who are primarily Pakistani Muslims are kicked out).
