Three Days Ago: Murtha Says Al Qaeda No Threat

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you John Murtha, Chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee:

U.S. Rep. John Murtha told reporters Tuesday that he isnÂ’t convinced al-Qaida is still a threat to national security.
Murtha said he visited Kuwait and Afghanistan during Thanksgiving and approves of the militaryÂ’s strategy, but expressed a need to measure progress in Afghanistan.
Â“I donÂ’t agree there is a threat to national security,Â” Murtha said, while not ruling out the possibility that he could be wrong about al-QaidaÂ’s influence. Â“They keep saying theyÂ’ve defeated al-Qaida.Â”

Who is "they" and have "they" made any other statements about foreign policy or the War on Terrorism? 'Cause I'd really like to know who we can start ignoring as a matter of course.

And it would provide endless quivering joy deep in my weaselly little guts to start calling for congressional hearings on this patently inaccurate and politically motivated intelligence assessment by Democrats. Shoe is on the other foot now, biznitches!

4 Not goinng to happen. GarandFan. I am up the mountain near his district for the holidays, they all hate him (liberals, too). But, they understand the value of senority and a seat on Appropriations. I suspect many Dems up here would love it if he lost his voice and just voted with a thumbs up or down - but it will be a stray bit of bacon that gets him out of the House.
