>>Yet the market keeps climbing up because there is no where else to go.
Sort of illusory. The rise is linked to the dollar's fall, so investors are likely/mostly exploiting that.

Look to do your shopping on the 23rd. Shit'll be free, is my guess.

Also, did anyone notice the stadium the Detroit Lions played in [Silverdome?] had sold for ~$590K?
Yes, you read that right. Major sports arena selling for less than a McMansion. Detroit notwithstanding.

That'll be GREAT for my post-apocalyptic gladiatorial games between warring bands of future barbarians!
I figure Detroit hits that point next month.

This morning I saw a segment on Fox news w/ Bill Hemmer talking to some dude from a group of economists, and Dude was thrilled to tell Bill that economic recovery(!) would be solid in the second quarter of 2010. He stuck to that premise, too, even when Bill kept pointing out many of your points above.
I just can't understand how "economists" can emphatically say that kind of crap when all indications point to a prolonged period of decline. I'm certainly no economist, but please tell me how in the world we can see a turn around with all the above indicators (real estate, business, retail, dollar) being so bad?!

Pose a question to a panel of ten economists...get fifteen answers.

Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) -- New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's campaign fund took tens of thousands of dollars from law firms representing clients his office investigated or accused of wrongdoing, state records show.
Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP, a New York law firm led by David Boies, gave Cuomo $35,000 this year, records show. The firm represents former American International Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Maurice “Hank” Greenberg in a civil fraud case the attorney general is pursuing. Lawyers defending Dell Inc., Deutsche Bank AG and a former state political party chief in Cuomo cases also contributed to him, records show.
Cuomo’s donation forms ask contributors to sign a statement saying they have no “matter” pending with him. That rule “does not extend to attorneys representing persons or entities with matters before the NYS Attorney General’s office,” the form states, mirroring his predecessors’ policies. The exception creates the appearance of impropriety, ethics experts said.
If this were a Republican this might be a full out scandal. Since it's not, it's just the "appearance of impropriety".

Apparently it costs about 1 million to run the Silverdome for one game or one concert so it's due for some stimulus and a green jobs boondoggle.

Yes indeed Senator Nelson, I'm sure you don't want a big-government operation. That's why you voted the way you did on Saturday night.
Duplicitous liars, these "moderate" democrats.

Economics is the art of finding a best-fit straight line through a single data point.
I'm certainly no economist,
Ah, your IQ has 3 digits then.
Seriously, look at Geoff's chart. Made carefully by economists. Epic fail (except where Geoff puts the real data points).

Yes, we will see weeks of so-called "moderate Dems" speaking against the current bill they just assured will pass.
They are all whores and I pray that the voters in their individual districts will kick them out next year.

Now there's a shock. More of the rule of the law-government complex.
We need SINGLE-PAYER LEGAL CARE.
Let's see how lawyers like it.

In the '90's is was "Buy Real Estate.. You can't go wrong."
Now, they're saying "Buy Gold.. You can't go wrong."
How many times to they have to rerun the movie, before anyone remembers the ending?

It can probably be demolished and the wiring/piping/structural steel scrapped for far more than that.
Long ago when Penn Central still existed and was in trouble, the scrap value of the steel track was worth more than company.

I'd settle for "loser pays". That would stop most of the bogus fishing expeditions in their tracks.

Yes, Morons, it's that time again. Ho, ho, ho.
Send a Christmas card to the ACLU. Freeze up their operations for awhile while they scramble to open all those "donation enclosed" Christmas cards. Remember to enclose a Bible verse.

Heck, I'd buy the Detroit Lions football team for $16 and a water cooler to be named later.

Lawyers at least understand their own profession and since the Democrat party in Congress is almost exclusively lawyers, they would balk.
Moreover, it would get traction because
(a) lawyers are a Constitutional right, as they have told us in Miranda, so this makes a lot more sense than single-payer medicine
(b) nobody likes lawyers except when they need one, proving that it is a protection racket
(c) some lawyers make a lot of money and produce nothing in the economy: they are to an economy what friction is to a pinewood derby car
(d) lawyers learn all the wrong lessons: for them, paperwork is billable hours, for the rest of us, it is a distraction from productive activity.

66 On November 5th, Obama invited Black Panther leader, Malik Shabazz, to the White House? Do you know who Shabazz is? He is about as extreme as any loony extremist radical can be.
It is my carefully considered opinion that evidence will continue to accummulate that this president should be impeached on the grounds that he is dangerously psychotic. Malik Shabazz??? Geeez, that guy is a certifiable nut case (in my carefully considered opinion).
