HH, my mom is dealing with frozen fog, if you can believe that. It makes everything slippery.

I lived in and around Philly for years, so I'm no stranger to ice, sleet, frozen rain, wet snow and basically anything that can happen in 30-40 degree weather. Let me tell you about the Great Ice Storm of '94. Or was it '93??

35 JUST A BIT TOO CONVENIENT FOR MY TASTE:

Just a day or so, ADP came out with their job numbers and we lost over 100,000 jobs, pretty much as expected.

Today, the government comes out with THEIR numbers and we are SHOCKED to find that we only lost 10,000 jobs and are adjusting prior months losses downward another 160,000 jobs to get a nice clean 10%?

This is a MISS by economists of 120,000 jobs?  Huh?  And no one is questioning the veracity of these numbers?  From the same government that has just been exposed as cooking the books on AGW?

And we also learn that one of the BIG reasons for this AMAZING result is an increase in GREEN JOBS?  Lol, convenient much as we just had our "Jobs Summit" and Copenhagen is going on right now and the Dems are about to ram through Obamacare?

And NO ONE in the media is saying, "now wait a minute, this doesn't add up?"  How the hell did economists miss by 95%?  have the ever missed by that much before?

This number reeks of manipulation.

1994 was a baaad and icy winter in Philly, topped off by that snow storm that shut down the East Coast. Ever airport from Atlanta north was shut down, so I was effectively snowed in...in Hawaii. Had to stay 2 days longer. Tough, man.

Wow, you get some beautiful pictures if you search images for frozen fog...

39 I remember ice fog when I lived in Fairbanks.  Unfortunately, I seem to recall that it was made up of car exhaust that had somehow frozen and settled.

I agree. They've invented numbers of people who got jobs via the stimulus. This is just more of the same. I surprized that they haven't credited Barry's job's summit with the unemployment number going down.

45 From Urban Dictionary: liquid fog droplets that freeze to surfaces on contact forming white rime ice. Common on mountaintops which are exposed to low clouds. It is essentially the same as the ice frost that forms inside a freezer.

Well, when you live on a mountain for the cool summer temps...

48

Well, being in Kansas with luck I won't have to deal with Ice Fog. But of course the real pain is knowing you have to get in your car, drive somewheres, and there has been either sleet or freezing rain. Then when you get to your car, you can't get in because the damn car is frozen solid! Key won't fit in the lock, and even if you unlock the door it's still frozen shut.

Damn I hate that! Not to mention the driving on the roads if you managet to get in the car and sort of thaw it out.

And what's with this crap I always hear that people don't know how to drive in the snow? I hear that all the time. Me, I drop the car a couple of gears and take it slow and easy (I have a 4 speed automatic). When stopped at a red light I drop into 1st, then pull out slowly, and increase speed as needed. Works well for me when driving conditions are crap, and haven't had any kind of accident in inclement weather.

Posted by: RoadRunner at December 04, 2009 06:27 AM (D6P9o)

52 Me, I drop the car a couple of gears and take it slow and easy Actually, it is better to run in the highest gear possible with slow engine speed. That sends less torque to the drive wheels.

Posted by: fluffy at December 04, 2009 06:29 AM (4Kl5M)

53 And what's with this crap I always hear that people don't know how to drive in the snow? I hear that all the time.

I love the ones who go whizzing past me in SUVs or 4WD trucks when driving on packed snow or ice. "I have four-wheel drive! I'm immune to inertia!"

And then the truth hits them (or another car when they can't stop at a red light or stop sign).

Posted by: RoadRunner at December 04, 2009 06:31 AM (D6P9o)

54

Fluffy, from a dead stop on an icy road I would disagree.

I've tried both. 1st gear works, Drive just spins the wheels.

Posted by: HH at December 04, 2009 06:31 AM (+jvXp)

55 And then the truth hits them (or another car when they can't stop at a red light or stop sign).

59 Exactly.  Where's that global warming when you need it?  Monday evening, walking the dog with a railroad lantern and enjoying the balmy night.  Thursday, letting him out to his run and watching to ensure he doesn't freeze in place.  Dogs are like kids aren't they?  Absolutely no nerve endings.

66 ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Even as he trumpeted a slowdown in the nation's job losses Friday, President Barack Obama put finishing touches on a proposal he'll unveil next week to "jump-start" business hiring across America.

"We need to grow jobs and get America back to work as quickly as we can," Obama said Friday at an event at Lehigh Carbon Community College. "On Tuesday, I'm going to speak in greater detail about the ideas I'll be sending to Congress to help jump-start private sector hiring and get Americans back to work."

Full employment for all of us! Oh thank you lord Obama creator and saver of jobs!
