We are blessed to be living in Barry's economic golden age:
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Low interest rates will prevail through most of next year as the U.S. economy expands modestly and the unemployment rate remains stuck in double digits, the UCLA Anderson Forecast group said on Wednesday.
"Specifically, we forecast that after growing at 2.8 percent in the most recent and current quarters, real GDP growth will settle into a 2 percent growth path for much of 2010 and be closer to 3 percent in 2011," the forecasting unit said in its report.
"With such sluggish growth, the unemployment rate will likely peak at 10.5 percent in the first quarter and remain at or above 10 percent for almost all of next year," the closely watched report added.

"Low interest rates prevail" ?
"economy expands modestly" ?
"unemployment rate remains stuck in double digits" ?
Rather benign words to describe the mess we're in if you ask me. Can you imagine the apocolyptic language they'd be using to describe the same circumstances if GWB were still President?

Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Americans have grown gloomier about both the economy and the nationÂ’s direction over the past three months even as the U.S. shows signs of moving from recession to recovery.
Almost half the people now feel less financially secure than when President Barack Obama took office in January, a Bloomberg National Poll shows.
Those concerns have put consumers in a miserly mood as they head to the mall for holiday shopping, with half the country planning to spend less on gifts than last year and few buyers willing to run up credit-card debt for Christmas.
“The recession may be over, but the administration seems to be losing the battle when it comes to winning the hearts and minds of Americans,” says Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist for Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in New York.
How can anyone be gloomy during the glorious reign of lord Obama the creator and saver of jobs?

Initially when I asked him "Did you hear about the CRU data being manipulated to hid any temp decline?" His response was a very VERY puzzled look on his face followed with "Oh you mean the 'in fighting' by the scientists?" This man LIVES for NPR. He wakes up to it. He drives with it. Any activity in the house is done with NPR in the background. During this entire CRU SCAM not once has he heard anything about hiding the decline.
This does not surprise me, but it is scary as hell.

Yeah, that from AP. Actually Rass had something different to say as did that former Carter adviser on Beck. He said that the levels of anger at the politicians in BOTH parties are at levels he had never seen before in his history in the polling and political affairs. People are not gloomy, they are mad as hell.

I have to stop reading Ed's posts at HotAir on the subject. He's posting graphs that show temps dropping and being "homogenized" into increases...bu then writing "Is the Earth warming? Yes, since 1650, as Eschenbach reports. Is that warming trend natural? Perhaps, perhaps not."

No joke. Everyone I know is getting baked goods for Christmas. I can get five pounds of flour for a buck fifty-nine at Aldi. Drop a couple dollars on some walnuts and raisins, and hey, enjoy your cookies. Merry Christmas.

I tried that last year but because everyone I know is far away the shipping costs were killer. We're cutting back to gifts for only the essential folks (family) and cards for everyone else. And we only do stockings for each other now.
I had the pre-Christmas spirit a month ago, but now it's completely gone. I'm bummed. I love Christmas, but it's just not happening for me this year.

Those sorts of things invariably just make people uncomfortable. Every one I've ever attended just reinforces that "tolerance" is a myth. I'm a woman so I'm in a "protected class" but the crap I've gotten over the years for my gender has been, for the most part, stuff I could handle. (Yes, I did have a dude slap me on the rear, so that had to go up the chain, and I did actually have a boss say I didn't "need" the back-pay they owed me because I had a husband, but for the most part the normal things were easy to handle by myself.) The tolerance I would've liked all those years was for my political beliefs -- but those are not protected. I had to sit through years of faculty meetings, job interviews (including my own), and committee meetings listening to the vitriolic bullshit from liberals slamming conservatives/Republicans/Boosh, but I could never complain.
That's why it's ridiculous.
I think it's much more effective to let peer-pressure handle the occasional "over-the-line" comment. In my opinion, AoSHQ has been very good at doing just that... and the commentators are often hysterically funny even while they're slapping someone around for going over the line. I hope we don't lose that, but frankly, since I am not clear where the line is (and the one time I felt it was crossed, I was wrong), I am loathe to help police the comments.

The link you posted was about the lefty indoctrination at corporations under the guise of diversity training. Most lefties claim that there isn't a left wing bias in the media because they are owned by big corporations and all big corporations they claim are right wing which is total rubbish.

Look at pictures from past Christmases and talk about what fun they were.
Go to some school or church Christmas programs (those are usually free).
Watch some old-fashioned Christmas movies like "Miracle on 34th Street" or "White Christmas."
Read some Christmas stories (including the original).
Find the Christmas channel on your local radio and play the music.
Sometimes you have to get yourself in the mood, because things are gloomy . The worst year for this I had was the year of the Florida recount. After that, I resolved to never again let outside circumstances keep me from enjoying Christmas.

Someone in the Target buying office realized this would be a lean year, and did a good job finding inexpensive presents. I was over there last week looking for stocking stuffers for the grandkids and found the following items: knit hats, $1; packs of knit gloves $1 for 2 pairs; various Hello Kitty items for $1 each (sticker books, notebooks, stamp kits); a pedometer for $4.99; craft kits under $5; books marked way down; cookie cutters for $1. There was lots more. I bought a twin bedspread for $15, and didn't even check the sporting goods, women's and men's clothing, or kitchen areas very much.
Seeing Target's add reminded me of this, and I thought this might help those who are trying to do Christmas for kids on a limited budget.

Y-not -- good way to get the Christmas spirit back:
Play Santa Claus for some neighborhood kids. You don't have to buy any presents, just offer up your services to impersonate Santa for some neighbors with little kids. Little kids; the kind who still believe in Santa and actually get excited by Christmas. Or get an impromptu group of carolers -- it's fun. Or do something really nice for some nice old person in the neighborhood, or an older relative.
Doing stuff for Christmas is more fun than buying stuff.
I can't afford to buy much for Christmas this year -- the budget is just too tight and our truck decided to get a busted brake line, so there went what little present money we had. Add to that, one of my kids got overpaid by the Army, so to balance out the overpay, they just decided not to pay her the last two months -- so we've been helping her cover her travel expenses, that's her Christmas. Doesn't matter if there isn't jack under the tree this year.

Family (what's left of it) is on the East coast (we're in SoCal now), friends are also mostly back east, midwest, or Texas... It's basically just me and Mr. Y-not.
I'm going to go pick up some fresh greens this afternoon to see if that helps. Not sure about the tree... our pup likes to pull on vines in the yard, so we're afraid she'll go for the lights on a tree. Maybe a couple of table-top trees will help.
Nothing quite like killing a living organism to get that Christmas spirit, but since plants produce CO2 at night, I guess it's fine! Damn eco-polluters!

I think the article is disturbing by virtue of the lengths at which these corporations will go to indoctrinate their employees into thinking and doing what is "right" in the liberal mindset. I personally cannot relate to the large corporate world nor the push to force the masses to conform to the ideals of the "protected classes."
I grew up in a family construction business, I owned and operated my own restaurant in a foreign country for years, and the closest thing I've had to a large corporate job were several years as a chef at a Ritz-Carlton.
I don't recall a whole lot of diversity training going on and generally speaking I thought everyone got along quite well. We had an incredible cross-section of mankind: Hatian, Cuban, Turkish, every sort of European, homosexuals, handicapped and then me. A good ol' Southern boy, a handicap in its own right.
We never had any trouble between the races and the only difficulty that stood out in my mind was when a new executive chef arrived, a young Frenchman, who perved on the women, even fondling in some cases, and requisitioned bottles of Pernod and liquor for his own consumption. Several of the female employees went to HR to complain and it was not until they found our Chef de Partie, a pal of the Frenchman, passed out in the bushes about 40 yards from the front entrance one morning, was something done. Bye bye Frenchie and pal. Some things training will never fix.
My view is, most people know how to act right when required and don't need the shame of sitting in a circular group doing thumbs-up or thumbs-down to obviously racially-charged motivations with their peers. To me, this serves no purpose other than to shame. And the simple reality is that by having these seminars and so on, the corporations are only trying to protect themselves on a legal basis from massive discrimination lawsuits. Oh, but we had DIVERSITY training. . .
What's worse, letting people think and believe what they want? Or massaging their tiny brains with liberal indoctrination. Sadly, some people just don't know how to act like normal human beings, either left or right.

I can assure you having worked for a large corporation, that beginning in the early 90s the "diversity mantra" began just like it was described in that article.
The problem is with the courts. They eliminated finally the BS quota counting and the race based hiring policies. But they left in place hiring to achieve "diversity". They also left in place the BS EEOC office in DC that runs amuck when Dems are in office.
Large companies with deep pockets become a target for every disgruntled minority and their shark lawyers. That is what is behind all the diversity BS.
If we had a court that actually enforced the civil rights act as written this diversity crap would dry up and blow away.

We don't see as many raptors around here as we used to in Indiana. There we had a huge deck and our house was sitting on a hill so it was sort of a tree house effect. The biggest bird we ever got to see close up was a goshawk which perched on our deck for a bit. Amazing.
