It is widely believed that free-range chickens are far superior to captive ones, as they result in a more tender, juicy, healthful meal. Dick Cheney believes this too, but about homeless people. -- Commenter Andrew, back in the day.

Meme alert:

IT'S STILL A "PUBLIC OPTION".

"Americans will face steep premiums under the government-negotiated private plans and massive expansion of Medicare at the core of Harry Reid's new “public option.” A family of four making $54,000 would pay more than $825 per month for one federally-managed plan — that even after a $10,100 government subsidy.

A 55-year-old couple buying into the Medicare expansion could pay $15,200 per year under the Reid plan, and it remains unclear how much if any of that cost would be subsidized. The Medicare buy-in would only be available to individuals 55-and-over, not younger family members, and it would be attached to premium and financing structures separate from the rest of Medicare, with no cap on out-of-pocket expenses.

And these, alas, are only the direct costs of the bill."

feel the burn.

IS GOOGLE SEARCH SUDDENLY CENSORING "CLIMATEGATE"?

I'm not sure this is accurate, but, for the past few weeks I was impressed that "climategate" was the first suggestion when typing "climate" at google. In fact, I could type "clim" and "climategate" would be the top result. Now, today, not only is climategate nowhere to be found, but it remains missing as a suggestion EVEN AFTER typing in the entire word "climategate". Is this something just on my local machine or are others seeing the same thing? Bing is doing the same thing as google when just a week ago they also suggested "climategate" when just typing "climate"...

8 A 55-year-old couple buying into the Medicare expansion could pay $15,200 per year under the Reid plan

It will be interesting to see where all the money for this "plan" is going. The stated purpose of the health scam bill is to introduce "competition" in the insurance field. Charging 15K a year for a 55 y.o. couple is no competition that I can see.

There must be a lot of payoffs to unions and other Dem special interest groups.

In a recent article provokingly titled 'Ten Games to Cross off Your Child's Gift List,' the NYT names its list of big bads — the video games so foul, so gruesome, so perverse that we'd recommend you buy them immediately — for yourself. I wonder what kind of game the NYT would endorse? It's probably the type where there a no winners or losers. Because we know that having a winner disenfranchises the losers (boo f'n hoo). 39 I would like to make a comment about Obama's speech,  which apparently a lot of conservative pundits and such are praising.

People need to go read that speech.  He says that the US goes to war for "enlightened self-interest."  He equates Islamic terrorists with the Crusades.  He makes it sound like Reagan was a Gorbachev supporter, which he was not.  There is lots more stuff in that speech that should raise red flags.

It was a cleverly crafted speech with Bush atmospherics and Obama history-twisting and subtly undermining America.

It was the speech equivalent of his praising Hillary Clinton while scratching his face with his middle finger.

That dress reminds me of Spanish revival velvet sofas of the 1970's (The Era of Bad Taste).

Who Is To Blame For US And Global Economic Meltdown

In 1995 at the request of Obama and ACORN the Clinton administration revised the Community Reinvestment Act to permit sub-prime loans for high risk low income home loan candidates.  The Clinton administration then via the Federal Reserve made trillions of dollars available to Fannie and Freddie for lending to these high risk low income home loan candidates.  ACORN and the Clinton administration then pushed Fannie and Freddie to boost their lending to these high risk low income loan candidates while Barney Frank Chairman of Financial Services Committee rejected any attempt by the Bush Administration to increase banking and financial institution regulations.

In 2001, sub-prime loans totaled $330 billion, or about 15% of all loans.  By 2005, they had reached $1.4 trillion, or 48%.  Fannie and Freddie owned or guaranteed more than half of the nations $12 trillion in home mortgages.  By 2006 they reached near 70% - a record.  But it came at a price.  With the trillions of money in circulation the Federal Reserve had to control inflation by increasing the prime interest rates in 2004 through 2006.   The sub prime adjustable mortgage interest rates therefore increased exponentially.  As a result the low income high risk homeowners increasingly couldnÂ’t make their adjustable mortgage payments.  The housing industry fell apart and many banks were left holding billions in underwater mortgages.  Home prices fell, and homeowners suddenly found themselves with no more equity to borrow on.  The low income high risk homeowners that paid “little to nothing down” had no downside risk preventing them from walking and the resulting foreclosures.  With the trillions of dollars from the government, Fannie and Freddie now redefined as government owned institutions were also left holding trillions of dollars in underwater loans.  So what did they do but warehouse the underwater loans and sold them to global banks and investment institutions.

Important to note: The banks and financial institutions that were “to big to fail” and targeted with nearly $1 trillion in government bailout (TARP) money were the same banks and institutions ACORN and the Clinton administration pressured to boost lending to high risk low income home loan candidates!

In summary, the governments failure to influence adequate banking and financial regulatory regulations led to the home foreclosures, which caused bank cash flow problems, which caused banks freezing all loans, which caused business cash flow problems, which caused layoffs, which caused more foreclosures, which caused more banks freezing loans, which caused more business cash flow problems, which caused even more layoffs, which caused even more foreclosures, which caused even more Â…Â…Â…

As for solutions;

1) Replace the current income tax system with spending tax system

2) Eliminate adjustable mortgage/loans

3) Require at minimum 10% down to qualify for home loans

4) Implement tax cuts

5) Implement severe penalties for white collar crimes

6) Eliminate spending earmarks

7) Eliminate the Federal Reserve practice of printing non-secured money

Ensure all budgets include funding proposals and business plans

9) Anything that does what a bank does and has to be bailed out because they're too big to fail must be regulated like a bank

10) The one unanswered question is who regulates the regulators?
