There's nothing worse than an evil man who thinks he's good. A man has to know he is flawed and far from being good. He can do good things, but he'll never be good.

Dec. 14 (Bloomberg) --President Barack Obama said he is frustrated that “fat-cat bankers” continue to take large bonuses and fight his effort to revamp financial regulation.
“I did not run for office to be helping out a bunch of fat-cat bankers on Wall Street,” Obama said in an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” program.
Does he mean the ones who gave two to one to his campaign over McCain's? Does he mean the ones who they extended TARP to? Which fat cats is Comrade Chairman talking about?

When assigning tasks to officers, one must consider 4 basic types of personality:
(good and evil are too subjective to be useful)
1) stupid and lazy - these men can be used for simple repetitive tasks that are not challenging. You always need someone to do the paperwork.
2) intelligent and energetic: these men are capable, but prone to micromanagement and overcomplicated schemes. Thus these men make decent lower level officers but are unfit for high command.
3) stupid and energetic: these are the most dangerous men of all, far more dangerous than the 1st group. Because of their energy they will set themselves to constantly creating messes far faster than they can be cleaned up, and the entire organization will soon be focused on simply repairing what these men destroy. They are walking, talking, disaster creators and must be dismissed as soon as they are identified.
4) intelligent and lazy: this is the man fit for overall command of any organization. Why? Because he is smart enough to see what needs to be done but is also motivated by laziness to find the easiest, simplest way to succeed. And, of course, such an officer would never sully his hands with details, vastly preferring to delegate those concerns to the eager beaver types.
And this is how candidates for leadership are to be evaluated.

Terrible analogy.
The one deserves his B+... If his goals were our Goals he would deserve an F.
But his goals are radically different. In implementing his warped policy he has been very successful. If he had passed his healthcare he would have an A. He has done more damage to this country than any of our enemies.

Will they do this again is the question.
There is a word "perfectable". It means to make perfect.
When you start arguing whether man is perfectable or whether man is intrinsically good or evil you are unintentionally diving into the reformation arguments. Luther: Man is evil but can be saved through faith Catholics: Man is good with evil tendencies and will be saved through works and sacraments. I think most are good but many are intrinsically evil---gene malfunction. Politicians fall into the latter category.

"Avatar" ends up being a toothless rollercoaster of eye candy that sexes up war, the very thing it professes to detest. "Avatar" is the perfect film to desensitize young audiences before they get the call-up.
For every cliche – every colonel telling his troops that they're "not in Kansas anymore", every fight beginning with trash talk like "Let's dance", there are myriad moments of beauty and of poignancy. And the final battle is worth the price of your 3D glasses alone.
In the second half the U.S. military gets round to destroying much of the local fauna and flora in a fetishist display of firepower (although not as gun fetishist as CameronÂ’s Aliens).
The movie has a 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes but I would put that down to Cameron's clout. An astonishing number of the reviews pan it but give it a postive rating for visuals alone.

If it comes to that, I doubt whether it will be as simple as one side against another. There are so many special-interests, factions, and ideologies at play that it would be just a huge disorganized mess. Think of how bad it got in the mid-to-late 1960's in the inner-cities (riots in Watts, Detroit, and Trenton). Then expand that outward by a factor of 10.
There has been a process at work over the last 20 years or so that political analysts call "the great sorting". We've been sorting ourselves into enclaves defined by political, ethnic, and religious beliefs for a long while now: not over large geographical regions, necessarily, but within political boundaries. Cities have "red" and "blue" enclaves; even neighborhoods. This kind of division goes all the way up to the national level (the midwest and south are "redder" than the northeast and far west). Racial divisions are still very significant at the local level: there is, statistically, very little intermixing between white, black, and hispanic communities. (The "melting pot" hasn't really melted very much, in other words.)
Now: given this highly-heterogeneous mixture at the macro level, but highly-homogeneous mixture at the local level, and think about what it means in terms of conflicts -- not just political and social, but (possibly) violent. How would it play out?

One major, New York-based daily fears its rival has lost its objectivity:
But Mr. Murdoch and his lieutenants have made two significant bets: that the cachet and reputation of The Wall Street Journal are elastic enough to encompass a much broader array of news and that objectivity in a general-interest newspaper is a losing strategy.
You got to give The NY Times credit for sticking with its “We’re the only nonbiased news source” talking points even as its readers abandon it in droves.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court said on Monday that it rejected an appeal by four former Guantanamo Bay prisoners arguing that they should be able to proceed with their lawsuit against top Pentagon officials for torture and religious abuse.
The justices refused to review a U.S. appeals court ruling that dismissed the lawsuit by the four British citizens over their treatment at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba on the grounds the officials enjoyed immunity.

I saw that on Beck. What I would like to see is local communities allow people to drive those golf carts on the road for short diatnce runs to the store etc. There are a few places in CA that already do that but there are problems. For the cities and counties they lose property taxes unless they pass some kind f new law for putting tags on golf carts. They also lose gas taxes that are subsidizing mass transit.
Based on that, it will never happen.
Also, I am not sure that what Stossel was putting out was completely true. Yes you can get a tax credit for an all electric car but I think it is not designed for golf carts.
This is from a comment from someone who replied at the WSJ article and he appears to be in the know on this one:
None of the current big three golf cart makers (EZGO, Club Car, Yamaha) make a cart that qualifies for the tax brake. The NEVs that qualify can not be driven on a golf course. To meet the requirements you must have seat belts, lights, turn signals and most safety items that are on a car.

Re: Panin & Monty...
I've kind of been in that situation. The L.A. riots. When they broke out, and you could see the coverage on TV, see the smoke rising off to the southeast, and then start to smell the smoke and hear the helicopters flying around, it got strange. And depressing. I was just wondering how people can act like that?
But there was a bright side. Myself and a number of neighbors got together, and decided to organize. We kept a watch, to make sure no fires broke out in our several block area. We patroled the area, making our presence known. We also kind of discouraged some dickwads who seemed to want to either loot or attack our locally owned Korean Market down the street.
Bad as the riots were, I wound up making great friends with my neighbors, whom I really hadn't known before. This later paid off in spades when the Northridge Earthquake hit.
So yeah, I've seen how the scenario could well play out. The other funny thing was, even though most of my neighbors were Libs, I was surprised at how well armed they were. Mostly pistols and shot-guns, but stil...
I found that very interesting.

The Dems have a prisoners dilemma right now. If they all vote for health care, they are screwed since the public does not want this and the campaign adds from the Repubs will be brutal., If one or two defect, they are even more screwed because the special interests from the left will punish them good -- they will have primary challenges and brutal adds from both sides.. So they all play along waiting for someone to defect and save them.
Lieberman is the only one that has the balls to go against the leadership, since he has already looked into the void and survived. He is not a fiscal conservative, he is not a blue dog, he is just a Senator that is no longer afraid of the Dem leadership.
So, yea they are going after his family. That's what thugs do.

I've been in a revolving state of (drug induced)calm/drooling stupor to dancing around the living room attempting to claw my own eyeballs and intestines out (and this time it wasn't due to the socio-politico-economic condition of the country) -- since Friday.

Is anyone else uncomfortable with the way they are reporting the prez's meeting with the banksters saying that the banksters were "summoned to the White House". that word "summoned" doesn't sit well with me.
Yeah. Its gonna be a real comical meeting. On the one hand, Obama is going to tell them to lend more. Then, on the other hand, Obama is going to tell them to stop balking at tighter financial regulations which would make lending harder.
Bluntly, if I was one of these guys, I just say screw it. I make as much money as I could next year, watch the house of cards fold and skip out. Then, when I got "summoned" to appear before Congress, start by listing my banks campaign contributions to every one of these slimy s-o-bs and asking if their campaigns would return the money.

Aveeno has an outmeal bath. But you can just make oatmeal into a fine powder and put that in the bath tub too. Wear a pair of gloves, if you scratch yourself you will have a wicked scar.

As long as it pays a fair price, the government can seize your property to build projects such as a new road, school or police station.
But should that power, known as eminent domain, extend to buying land for a freeway interchange that's used for only one week, every five years or so, to serve traffic going to a major golf tournament?

Runningrn -- that (and some of my mom's industrial strength painkiller, that yes, I am taking without, gasp, a script for it) was the only thing that kept me from going to the hospital this weekend. Fortunately it has let up some (I can't take medication -- an Ibuprofen or Tylenol will make me sleepy; one kid's Benadryl will knock me out for 4 hours).
So please don't take much of anything I"ve written in the past 72 hours, or whatever will spew from my fingers, too seriously -- I'm pretty sure the Flying Spaghetti Monster is stealing cheese from my fridge right now.
A fair number of the "liberals" would rapidly change their tunes if push came to shove with their personal lives -- it's that hard core base that has to be dealt with, and the mob they could sway. They know this is the only way they can keep hold of power, and I think they would do it. They're very nihilistic, that lot -- very filled with hate (a bit like the character of Gollum if you want to get literary; Tolkien pegged them there). I do not trust them at all to act in any way rational or compassionate.

On the subject of Avatar, hereÂ’s what pisses me off, the movie is rated PG-13, yet once again they are heavily advertising it during the day on channels primarily for children and McDonalds has Avatar toys in their happy meals.
If you are a parent that still reads the PG-13 label as not really appropriate for children under 13 it is a big problem that they push the movie so heavily to kids under 13. And, when other parents ignore it entirely and fellow classmates get to see the movie in theaters that also leads to conflict.
Either clean the movies up enough to get the PG rating or donÂ’t push them at kids under 13.
