More signs that Barry's economic golden age is well under way:
Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- More Americans than anticipated filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week, a reminder that the labor market will take time to strengthen and may weigh on the economic recovery.
Initial jobless claims rose by 7,000 to 480,000 in the week ended Dec. 12, from a revised 473,000 the prior week, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The number of people receiving unemployment insurance was little changed in the prior week, while those getting extended payments increased.

At least Barry can count on good old AP to still bring the happy poll numbers
WASHINGTON – Budget deficits are in the stratosphere. Unemployment has hit 10 percent. The health care overhaul is incomplete.
Still, Americans appear to like President Barack Obama and the way he's doing his job.
The latest Associated Press-Gfk poll shows the president's popularity holding steady, with 56 percent of those polled approving of the way he's taking care of the country's business. His marks for handling the 8-year-old war in Afghanistan have jumped by double digits, with more than half now approving, since he capped a three-month strategy review by announcing a big troop increase.
Someone should ask Gibbsy if AP does their polls with crayons.

Re side bar item: Depressing - the slave trade is bigger now than before the Civil War.
I realize the intent of the article was to discuss the assertion by the U.N. that the slave trade is now bigger than it was in its heyday in the 1700Â’s. Keep in mind that there was a federal law prohibiting the importation of slaves into the U.S. that went into effect in 1807. In addition, every State except South Carolina had already prohibited further importation of slaves even before the act went into effect.
All that being said, the article makes a point of describing John Brown as some kind of olden day hero because he opposed slavery. Every time I see one of these articles that holds him up to be a hero I want to throw crap.
He was a terrorist and is one of the people most responsible for the war between the States. Think about it this way. The group ELF is considered to be an environmental terrorist group today because they have burned housing developments and new car lots doing millions in damage. To the eco-idiots this is a worthwhile thing. Now suppose we had to that the ELF people riding into a upper class housing development on motorcycles, terrorizing the residents, and hacking hundreds of them to death with sabers. After which they attack a national guard armory and steal weapons and explosives which they intend to distribute to more eco-idiots for starting a war.
Would you still consider them to be heroes?

Yeah, Vic, where I live, John Brown doesn't seem to be thougt of well in either Missouri OR Kansas.
Ironic, eh, that he has captured by Robert E. Lee, who was a Union Officer at the time.

What do you think the weighting was for the democrats?
Posted by: VELVET AMBITION at December 17, 2009 09:27 AM (xLMtq)
Well they found the ever popular Republican who is really a Democrat so that's some indication of who they polled.
"These were tough decisions this guy had to make," said Steve Pollaro, 67, a bus driver from Torrance, Calif., praising Obama for showing leadership. But Pollaro, a registered Republican who calls himself a recent Democratic convert, is lukewarm at best on the new strategy itself. He opposes a public timeline for beginning a withdrawal and reluctantly backs the troop increase — on grounds that Obama knows more than he does.

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration on Thursday will hand out the first $182 million of a $7.2 billion pot of stimulus money that will go toward building high-speed Internet networks and encouraging more Americans to use them.
In a speech in Dawsonville, Ga., Vice President Joe Biden will announce the first 18 projects that will receive federal funding to bring high-speed Internet connections to rural areas, poor neighborhoods and other underserved communities across the country.
Does Joe have the number to this web site?

Foreclosures are being put on hold.
Did you hear about this? Citbank or group or whatever they call themselves have put a 30-day moratorium on foreclosures.
Holy shit are we gonna have a terrible 1stQ in 2010. You think Obama's polls numbers are bad now? Just wait until tax day, April 15th. People will hate Barack Hussein Obama and his entire corrupt and incompetent administration.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after suffering serious injuries upon falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities describe as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

Why did the Crapenhagen conference fail? It's all Bush's fault of course
COPENHAGEN – The Copenhagen climate conference "failed" long before it even opened.
Every one of the thousands attending that U.N. conference saw the problem, however: The U.S. administration of President George W. Bush had blocked progress on climate change for seven years, and would do so for one more.
When President Barack Obama took charge last January, he had just 11 months to work with international partners to negotiate a successor agreement to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which had imposed modest emissions cuts on industrialized nations, and which the U.S. had rejected.
Poor poor Barry everything is just so unfair to him.

950 cases I didn't have to touch, just back in the door and they unload the whole truck.
Profit for me. 8.5 cents a case.
Drive through the hell that is the George Washington Bridge to Jersey City, N.J. to pick up a backhaul. Been there a half dozen times. Hard place to back into, but they're quick.
Get to the stop, they have their own truck in the dock, and a huge dumpster blocking the rest. They throw a pallet jack into the back of the truck so I can move the six pallets into the nose.
Only... because of the rules I work, I get case count for the pick-up, instead of working at an hourly rate while they unload me.
Profit to me. 2160 cases times 8.5 cents.
Good day. Good day.

Yeah, Someone who murders or destroys in the name of advancing a political scheme is a terrorist. It doesn't matter what the political thought is, or how worthy it is.
What John Brown accomplished, besides murdering innocent people in the name of his beliefs, is to convince the South that there were people in the anti-slave factions that wanted to cause a slave uprising. That was just one more stone on the secession menu.

YouÂ’re only as strong as the weakest link.
Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations.--Wall Street JournalDenial is no defense. Relying on electronic intelligence for national security is fraught with built in disaster, made in China. Next step, terrorists pirate the drones to attack our own troops.
ObamaÂ’s and GatesÂ’ national defense sensibility is to rely upon electronics, regardless of their ease for sabotage from chips and parts manufactured in China, to electromagnetic pulse destruction, to corruption via unprotected lines of communication.
The stupidity of this is illustrated by illicit and unprotected sexual intercourse with STD partners. Obama canÂ’t just abort this problem.
