In other St. Louis news, the laptop Occupy St. Louis was using to track donations was stolen (or was it redistributed to the more needy). Hope no one made a donation with a credit card.
Apparently Occupy St. Louis is fizzling badly, but their Facebook page is a hoot.

Maybe tomorrow or sometime next week the markets will figure out that a bailout with worthless currency isn't going to fix a damn thing.

I was at game 7 of the World Series in 1987 when Minnesota kicked Cardinal ass.
The fans are the rudest and most obnoxious people I've ever encountered.
Then again, I haven't been to occupy wallstreet.

Yea, for some reason, even though I was reading 70-90F I was thinking Celsius.
I'm dumb.
Posted by: KG at October 27, 2011 04:44 PM (LD21B)
Anyway, I've been reading some lately on the state of baseball and everything I'm reading seems very gloomy. Talking about low ratings, rising age of the fans, etc, etc.
Are things really that bad? I thought baseball had been semi-booming in recent year with great attendance. Granted, I wasn't paying much attention. My main complaint with MLB has always been that they over-rely on the Yankees.
Anyway, even though I haven't paid much attention, and haven't been to an MLB game in many, many years ... I have gone to some minor league games. I still enjoy the smell of the grass, and it's just a nice, relaxing way to spend a summer day or evening. As a kid I would have cared about the prospects of all the players, but now it's just soaking up the atmosphere.
Here's one question on the whole baseball demographics/decline issue -- how is baseball doing with the Mex-American fanbase? Obviously there are lots of Latin players -- but most of them seem to be from the Caribbean (Cuba, Dominican, Venezuela) while most American hispanics are Mexican.
Am I right about that fact? My impression is that Mex-Americans seem to not be producing many baseball stars. Or many elite athletes at all now that I think about it. Wait - boxers. Lots of elite Mexican boxers. But not many in the big 4 - baseball, football, basketball, or hockey.
Just wondering.

If you have a pizza stone, put it in the oven for 45 minutes at 100-125.
Shut the oven off, leave the door open for 5 min. and then proof your dough on a rack set above the stone.

Sacred Honor compels me to admit to having planted my flag firmly in Ms. Scabbia. It was a torrid affair that I'd rather not get into details about, suffice it to say that I had sexual intercourse with her various orifices.
Repeatedly.

They were high school sweethearts and married in 1967. She was drop dead gorgeous in her youth and still looks great
Nolan was still throwing in the high 90s at age 46, and he could handle himself when a youngun charged the mound. Every middle aged man in America smiled that night.
I remember that. Wasn't middle-aged (then), but smiled anyway. That video doesn't show it, but there was a photo from behind the catcher of Nolan standing up straight, bracing for contact. Looked ten feet tall, with shoulders almost as wide. You just know that kid charging him was wondering what happened to the old man that supposed to be on the mound.
Nolan let him off easy.
And if the Astros weren't the worst run club in the major leaques, they'd have kept Ryan until he retired, then put him into the front office, grooming him for ownership.
But then, this is the team that fired Tal Smith after he won baseball's Executive of the Year award. (Y+DPZ)

Cardinal fans = the Yankee fans of the Midwest, except prissier and more hypocritical. For months, I've had to endure pompous Cards fans lecturing me about what a disgrace Morgan aka T-Plush was, and how much more classy the Cards are. But it's apparently OK for Carpenter to scream "you're a fucking piece of shit" at Napoli.
The Achilles heel of the Cards - they can't hit lefty pitchers (see, Wolf, Randy). Holland's on the mound now.
The Cards will LOSE! AT HOME!!
Sweet!

It was from the division series against the Phillies. I can't remember who was up (Skip Shumaker's name is in my mind), but a squirrel ran across the batters foot in St. Louis. The fans wanted to make the squirrel into a rally squirrel, even though St. Louis was already up in the game, and they didn't give up the lead, and they won....

Squirel Reason -
In some almost-end-of regular-season game, the Cards were behind and a squirel ran out on the field. They shooed it off the field and the Cardinals proceeded to immediately come from behind and win the game. hence, the Rally Squirel

Well, I tried to post an NPR story lamenting that boo-hoo, when retired professional players run for office, they overwhelmingly are conservative Republicans, but I got the "tiny url, long urls are annoying" message and I lost the link and the post I had written, so f*** ace and his daintiness about long urls. The link is out there - fact: jocks and sportspeople generally tend to vote GOP. Is that a surprise?
This game really p.o.ed me. The Rangers could have won it-easily -and the a-holes muffed it. You dorks. Still rooting in game 7 for you, but for god's sake don't let PETA member and Bruce Springsteen's buddy LaRussa win this.

Yeah, like I said earlier, you do not give up on the Cards, because the Cards do not give up. They will battle until the last out of the 9th inning and beyond. Like Satan.
When the Cards win, the forces of ugliness, hypocrisy, and evil prevail. PETA wins. Liberalism (LaRussa's whining) wins.

JR: Like I said, all true conservatives are rooting for Texas. Your team has some admirable individuals (Pujols) and some real pieces of offal (Carpenter). Your manager is king of whining and paranoia, which explains why Bruce Springsteen and PETA love him. Cards fans are both disgusting, subhuman hypocrites and priggish church ladies ("ohh,my,that terrible Nyger Morgan!! Lowering the vaunted traditions of baseball! but it's quite alright when Carpenter calls Napoli a 'fucking piece of shit!' Oh, we excuse that!")
Washington's calls in game 6 were stupid beyond belief. That said, all kind and decent folks pray for a Texas win in 7. St. Louis people may be admirable in all aspects of their personal and professional lives. But the fact that they are Cards fans automatically renders them beneath the level of Manhattan bed bugs (otherwise known as Yankee fans).
Look, I confess, I have an interest here. I hold season tickets to the Brewers games. When the Brewers lost to the Cards I was very depressed for a day and then I thought "Well, at least we still have the Packers."
So, hey, if the Cards lose, can't you still say "Well, at least we still have the Rams!"
Err, no, you can't, can you?

When Washington refused to pinch hit for the pitcher (who wasn't pitching that well) with the bases loaded in the 4th? (3rd?), I turned to my wife and said, they're going to lose this one. He manages with is gut, I know, but tonight that was just gas rumbling not smart baseball noises.
Both teams looked like they were desperate to choke and give the game away; the Rangers just did a better job of that...which is a shame as good as this Series had been up until last night.

Donna, you're vitriole is amazing. Where does it come from? Seriously, it's out of thin air. Your conclusions, delusional.
I'm a tea partier, a conservative and having fun rooting for my transplanted 'home' team. I'm not a huge sports fan, but last night was fun. I would have called it a great game, even if we lost. It was a cliff hanger and you don't get those that often.
And the irony in this, my family is originally from WI and still have relatives there. I always root for the Brewers and the Packers. I don't give a damn about the Rams, even most season ticket holders here don't like the Rams. LMAO Last year when the Packers came and kicked our ass, season ticket holders were selling their tickets to Packer fans and even the sports anchors were laughing and talking about how they're great folks. There are no fans like Packer fans, truly. And we all have fun not liking the Cubs. Had the Cards not been in the series, I would have rooted for Texas. Had the Cards not been in the playoffs with the Brewers, I would have rooted for the Brewers. Had no team that I was interested in been in the series, I would have done laundry.
You're basically a nasty tool and I feel a bit sorry for you. All of those ugly conclusions and tone based on thin air? Anyone with that level of internal ugly probably needs a cookie. Eat a bag, adjust your life attitude.
