When I was in Junior High, I was in an academic contest and made it (by default - it was no accomplishment, I was just first in a field of 1 in my district) to the state runoff. It was at the University of Colorado at Boulder. My much older brother drove me because my folks weren't available.
I washed out early and we went to the big pedestrian mall (Pearl Street Mall) to get some lunch before going home. He was smoking a cigarette as we walked around looking for what to eat. At this time, Boulder was floating an outdoor smoking ban. A woman - we'd call her a Karen today - walked up to him and said, "you know, that's really rude!"
He eyed her up and down, paused, spat at her feet and said, "No, ma'am. *That* was really rude," and then we continued on our way while she stood there speechless.
This is likely applicable to the mask karens.

My suggestion? The left is starting up the "well-regulated militia" bullshit again, so run with it. "Well-regulated" means "in good working order" and the best way to ensure that is not through gun control, but mandatory gun ownership, along with a triennial mandatory proficiency test, physical fitness test, and first aid class. The sheriff departments can be responsible for overseeing all testing, maintaining militia rosters, and reporting failures/exemptions to the state government. Conscientious objectors can choose the alternative of owning more first aid supplies, and increased aid training.

i don't like the idea of a roster, but the rest is a good idea. the militia is the able bodied male population of the county. they should be armed and familiar with their weapons, but i don't think the sheriff or any other govt official should actually have a say in who is qualified or not.

Catherine what exactly is going on? I won't wear masks out of doors. Was just at a meet and I basically watched from like, trees and little nooks around the track rather than the stands, until some parents told me to just go ahead and sit on the stands. the school DID have people posted all around to enforce the masking tho. and this school was making all the track athletes mask the entire day. which is nuts.

I mask in their barn, and get out as quickly as possible as masks give me an instant headache. I've been told their policy is masks inside and out and it's not changing. My youngest tolerates the mask, but it's mind-bendingly stupid. I have just about lost all hope of a return to sanity; so I have to decide what it's worth.

That's part of why I'm torn. Their social development is set back by masks.BlackOrchid, they can take them off while on the horse. They have to wear them until mounting. The youngest doesn't know he can take it off; so he doesn't. I'm the one with the biggest issue. The idea of going another year without even being able to watch classes is frustrating.
I'm also annoyed with other things the center has been doing, like not allowing my competent rider to ride independently. And the youngest does not seem to get as much out of it. There are other centers, but it seems they have the same stupid rules. If we hadn't been involved with this center for ten years . . . ugh.

People have been driven insane by the lockdowns and paranoia driven by China virus propaganda. You see it in all walks and contexts. Add in that people who thought it would get better once BADORANGEMAN was gone realizing that it is actually worse than even we could imagine it would be, and presto, changeo, a bunch of people are snapping under the pressure.
The shooters are just doing what they were predisposed to do under, but hadn't, under lesser extremes of mental stress. That's my back of the envelope calculation, and I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Me too! Although my sisters in (citified) TX have actually had more issues than I have. Competitive swimmers being handed a mask as they get out after finishing a race . . . school boards holding on to mask rules after the governor drops them . . . being asked to leave Mass because they are not wearing masks . . .it is all just so insane. My parish has been awesome and other homeschool parents are just as done with it as I am. This is really my biggest issue, especially if nothing changes. We are committed through May, but I seriously want to bail then. They have a waiting list, MP4, or else I might have a small amount of pull.

New house, getting warm. I wanted to turn on the A/C. The fan blows ambient temperature air around just fine. The central air unit is *incredibly* old (early 90s vintage) and it worked during inspections and I have a home warranty, so I figured I might have lucked out and had it break during the coverage period.
But before burning a hundred bucks on a service call, I figured I'd do some troubleshooting of my own. The outdoor unit (the cooling bits) were doing ... nothing. Not even clicking. The breaker was on. There is also an outdoor sub-panel with nothing (so I thought) but a jumper block to connect in to out. The jumper block (so I thought) was removed. I figured this is because this ancient outdoor panel was legacy from the original unit and it had been bypassed and was being used as an elaborate junction box.
Out comes the current detector. Not so, I find. The top of the jumper block is hot, the bottom is not. it needs the jumper block. So then I think to myself, "why did someone pull it out?" So I throw the breaker and open up the sub-panel. It's fine. Wiring looks good, nothing rotten, no water incursion, no spider's test, nothing. All is well. So I inspected the jumper block itself, only to find that it also has fuses on each leg of the 240 line. Out comes the multimeter. They're fine - I get continuity through them and it doesn't appear that they're shorting. So I reinstalled the jumper (actually fuse) block, throw the breaker, turn on the A/C and it fired right up and is cooling the house down.
I am sure am pleased that someone removed that fuse block for me. That was really nice of them. Again, ARGH!

Sounds like the contacts not working properly.They're working fine. They worked much less well when the fuse block was removed and sitting on top of the sub-panel because someone removed it for some reason between the inspection (when the A/C worked) and when I moved in...
