Alvin Greene Is On The Scene
— DrewM

A must watch video shamelessly stolen from The Corner.

Allah has the answer to the mystery behind why Greene was discharged from the Air Force. There's no polite way to put this, Green's not very bright.

The reviewer also wrote Greene “required a daily to-do list” to perform basic duties and had a “consistent inability to follow instructions or maintain basic job knowledge.” Most seriously, the reviewer wrote that Greene would represent “a threat to others” because of his inability to grasp the basics of military training.

It's a fine line between laughing at a guy who honestly just doesn't seem all there and the mess the Democrats are in having nominated this guy. Let's be honest, a Republican wouldn't get any breaks. Besides, the Senate is mostly rich guys, not a Mensa chapter.

If this guy were running against Lindsay Graham, I'd send him money.

Idle thought...Greene's actually going to get a bunch of votes based on the publicity and the mood of the country (he's as close to "none of the above" as you're going to see). What percentage does he wind up with and if enough people decide to throw and pity/protest vote to him thinking, "he'll never win"...could he?

If it weren't at the expense of DeMint, I'd love to see Senator Greene.

Who's with me on the Greene in '14 bandwagon?

6 The Newspapers have turned around 180° on him now. He is their darling since he became "the candidate" of record. They just can't help themselves here.

The only votes he will get are the blacks and > 90 year old whites who have voted Dem since FDR and who will not change.

IOW, DeMint by 75% because even though 40% of the State is black Obama is not on the ballot and they will not turn out.

Some of us also know how easy it was to teach Poli Sci at USC, even if it was only for a year.

I had some pretty good students there to be honest. Though there were your share of slackers too, of course. But the department is an unmitigated clusterfuck of ego, stupidity, and liberalism, even by any social science department standard.

35 OK, a couple of serious comments away from snark at the social sciences.  As a conservative, I don't think we need super-smart ubermensches to solve our problems.  In fact, I think that's the worst thing we could have.  I like perfectly common people in positions of power.  Or at least, wisdom and common sense are better than academic credentials.  But this is really just pathetic, for a statehouse seat let alone a seat in the US Senate.

Look at the way the left is selective with regards to intellect.  Palin is "not smart" but whatever deficiencies that Greene has are not an issue. Cognative dissonance is not a problem for the left.

46 It's high time the South Carolina conservatives got behind a primary challenger to Lindsay Graham.

He had two challengers in 2008 primary and then a run-off against one.

Meanwhile all the polls were urging voters to vote in the Dem primary at the runoff level because the republicans offered no candidates in a lot of the races and if you didn't vote in the Dem primary you didn't get to vote for that office at all.

What is funny is that yes he won the primary by a wide margin but did not win the general election by much. His win was less than McCain's in taking the State. That meant that Republicans split their vote and did not vote for him.

You observation is spot on. The idea of QC in Political Science has me on the floor laughing. I was at a different school (a directional public university) where I was informed that PS majors/minors/anyone who declared an "interest" in the discipline in a survey should be treated differently than other students. I found out as time passed this included the removal of "hurdles" (or as I call them, assignments/expectations/grade scales) for these students so that they would stay/become majors/minors.

More Majors/Minors = more department funding. That's what mattered 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Not quality of education or challenge in the classroom.

Any actual natural born American would do less damage than the Indonesian Imbecile.  Even Americans who wanted to do damage, like Shrillary, would be less damaging, since they have subconscious ties to our culture that they cannot break.  Shrillary would have let the health scare die midway throught he town halls, just like she did last time.

The Indonesian shares nothing with American culture and had no problems breaking every tradition and taboo we have in his desire to destroy all of our institutions. That's why the Founders put that clause in and that's some of us have been railing about how important it is.

95 All of our jokes involved "a mathematician, a physicist, and an engineer ...".  We never sank down to poli sci.

Usually the punchline is "we reduce it to a previously-solved problem".

What I find amazing, though, is that almost all poli sci majors I have ever met (and they have been numerous) have had very little idea about the actual structure of our government or how it is unique in the world and different from just about all others.  I'm really not sure what they teach in political science, but it doesn't seem to be political science.

Activism, mostly.  At the undergraduate level, it's hard to tell one social science from another.  And they certainly don't teach the scientific method.

The regular scientific method is basically: You observe a natural phenomenon, develop a hypothesis as to why it occurs and test it against data.  If the test fails, you reject the hypothesis and try again.

Imagine Greene wins, and Obama has to invite him to the WH.

Yeah, I remember a point from Taubes. a real science journalist who's covered both particle physics and diet "science." When a particle physicist presents a paper, the audience questions everything and rips it to shreds. So there's a lot of retained truth in particle physics, because everything else has been ruthlessly filtered out. In diet "science", when you present a paper, the audience says "good job!"  Sort of like giving A's to everyone, and with similar garbage results. And social "science" is even worse.

47  Funny you should say that Amish.  I had a pretty rousing argument with a mechanical engineer (with a math minor no less) who insisted America was a democracy because she had read about how the founding fathers studied ancient democracies "and stuff", how we shouldn't be supporting Israel the way we are against the flotilla because "well I think it's wrong that they are starving people over there and we're helping them do that", and (the real kicker) "Bush totally made the federal government take over, like some communist country, and Obama is just creating all these czars and stuff and going around our inept Congress and Supreme Court to try and fix what the Republicans did and make our country free again".

O/T

Bill and Hillary sponsored a dinner at the White House and invited numerous guests to include F. Henry Throckmorton, republican attorney.

After dinner, Bill and Vernon Jordan formed the receiving line and bid the guests farewell.  When  Throckmorton was before Bill, he leaned forward and said, "Mr Throckmorton, your wife is the best piece of ass in Washington."

Attorney Throckmorton was stunned and quickly departed with his wife.  After they left, Bill Clinton leaned over to Vernon Jordan and said, "I told Throckmorton a lie. His wife isn't the best piece of ass in Washington but I didn't want to hurt his feelings."

119 He had two challengers in 2008 primary and then a run-off against one.

Posted by: Vic at July 22, 2010 06:34 PM (/jbAw)

What that tells me is that the South Carolina conservatives need to put a "laser-like" focus on defeating Graham in the primaries, ignoring any other ballot races.  And 2014, a mid-term, won't have Barack Obama on the ballot (I hope and pray he'll be an ex-President by then and enjoying six days a week of golf and pickup hoops) to skew the vote.

Let me say this:  This arbitrary age of 18 is bullshit, in many ways.  (We DO have to set an arbitrary age, of course, because there is no good method of announcing majority except with arbitrary limits).

18 is plenty old to know what's up, IF the kid is worldly; i.e., not raised by helicopter parents who just worry so much about their precious Sally-Wally.

Is he a perv?  Probably.  Is he a retard and do we have a responsibility to acknowledge that?  Yeah.  He just ain't so fucking bright.

Teach your girls about such critters and it's not a problem.  My oldest is ten.  Wave your wang in her face and she'll bring it home as a fucking trophy.  So many parents just don't want to deal with the reality of the world and its inhabitants.

Not so fine to me.  I'm far less comfortable snarking at Alvin Greene -- who may have made stupid mistakes in his life, and often sounds as though he's on the verge of announcing his intention to start a shrimping outfit, but does not appear to be a BAD guy -- than I am with some slimy douchenozzle like Will Folks out to cause purposeful harm to someone; let alone some 400+ members of Congress who are "unemployed" by virtue of never having held a real job in their lives; who have never served their country in uniform at all; and who will never have to worry about having to go back home to live with their parents because they've gotten RICH sucking the public trough dry.

161 Oh, and I work with a guy similar to this, only Greene is much nicer.  Was in the military, got out under similar circumstances, got fired from a previous job, sued and got a Bimmer out of the deal.  He craps on his customers daily, and his sole goal in life is getting paid as much for as little work as possible.  Now, that may describe many of us morons, but he uses his...genetically inborn attributes to actually make it happen.  He's managed to whittle his route down to 5 1/2 hours, while it's evaluated at 8.  The kicker is, he 'needs' an hour of help on top of that.  So he's yanking his pud for 3 1/2 hours a day, ever (*&%#@ing day.  Here's the best part, he's also our union steward, so he gets extra time to file mounds of grievances for...himself.  It has a downward effect on the rest of the office, why should we bust our asses when he's getting away with murder?

Posted by: bikermailman at July 22, 2010 03:52 PM (XNCeM)

162 135 Herr, the girl was 18 which is right at the border where the charge could have been very very serious.

Sounds funny from a homeschooler, doesn't it?  Except that said ten year old is hunting the internet for semen for our goats.  It's reality.....

Posted by: Herr Morgenholz at July 22, 2010 07:30 PM (RgXpA)

OT, but what is the most effect effect technique to teach a child (assuming they are responible kid)

1. TEMPLE – A very susceptibile vital spot. If struck with sufficient force, may cause unconsciousness or death.

2. NASION – This is the summit of the nose. If struck with sufficient force may cause death.

3. PHILTRUM – This is the area between the upper lip and the bottom of the nose. Attack to this area may also cause unconsciousness or death.

4. HOOK TO JAW – A powerful hook punch to the front side of jaw may snap an enemy’s neck. Fatal.

5. ADAM’S APPLE – A sharp blow here may cause enemy to asphyxiate.

170 Herr, the reason no one else will be the steward is this:  if I, as a union member, feel the union has failed to properly represent me, I can sue them in court.  None of us want to be on the receiving end of him suing the crap out of us (as individuals) because we told him he didn't have any grievance and to get the frak back to work.  I spoke with the PM about this recently, and he spoke to the chapter president over in Lubbock.  The union guy (who is sick of this POS too) suggested we vote to have the chapter give us a steward, who wouldn't be physically present except for when there's an actual case.  Which with our current local management (thankfully, we've had some awful ones before) is not very often.

Oh yeah, one more coinkidink here:  our own personal frakoff is named Alvin.

I play golf with a bunch of union guys every spring.  One of them a steward, who basically bitches about the pieces of shit that he's responsible for.  Sorry.

Fucking unions are a major, major liability on the economy. though, and especially in the government that the second-class-citizenry private sector is forced to pay for.

Posted by: bill at July 22, 2010 04:06 PM (XhUIv)

175 Nah, it's cool.  You're absolutely right about them being a drag.  We're trying to do some major changes so we can stay afloat, such as the five day delivery.  The union has spent a chunk of change for a media campaign to fight it.  They claim it's about saving our jobs, but if we ditch Sat delivery, they'll give an early out so there's no, or nearly no layoffs.  But the nat'l union will be missing the $35 mln/year in dues from the positions that will go away.

I could be wrong, but I think I saw an interview with the victim and her mother on TV a few weeks ago.

She was non-black.

Which rates a big so-what? from me. There doesn't seem to be a great sense of urgency in getting Alvin into the courthouse. That tells me two things: 1) the charges may be weak, and 2) he's a Democrat.

From the state level he would probably say, "Their choice.  Don't like it, move to another state."

From the federal government he would say that they have no business mucking around in state business ... and then let out some really choice slurs.

Alvin Greene had a degree, but he enlisted in the Air Force as an enlisted man, rising to E-3, Airman First Class.  I don't know how dumb you would have to be to be involuntarily separated from the USAF as an E-3, but it would be Pretty Frigging Dumb.  Most guys who get kicked out at that rank have done something bad, like drugs or a stickup, but it sounds like this guy wasn't smart enough to tie his shoes to do something bad.  Then he did it all over again in the Army, rising another rank to E-4.

However, that said, Alvin has far surpassed the minimum intellectual standard to be a Democratic Senator.  And really, would it be so bad to have a Democrat who was too stupid to do any harm?  Somebody you could give a red balloon, a bag of M&Ms, and a coloring book and he would just play in the corner by himself.

Is Obama going to endorse him or even show up?

If not, how does this affect the Black vote not only in SC, but in the country?

Looks like a great opportunity for a few ads from an anonymous 503 axing the same question.

"Why is Obama not supporting the ONLY Black candidate for the US Senate?"

Hmm, Karl crank it up my man!

As the mother of an autistic son, I am watching these "interviews" with Greene with a mixture of horror and pity.  Everything about him screams "undiagnosed," from his family's defensiveness about his mental capacity to his inability to follow basic directions in the Air Force.  If the Democrats have an ounce of pity, they'd use the pending criminal case to disqualify him from running, or simply concede the race to DeMint and not push Greene forward at all.

204 I have finally watched this video.

The motivation behind this could be many. One of them--my top pick--is a legitimate attempt to get the man as many votes in the black community as possible and/or mitigate the damage he has undergone. The part about mentioning the charges is the giveaway. The denial will be believed, because it will want to be believed.

If he was running against a lesser candidate than Demint, or if it was a House race, he might very well win--if he refused debates and limited public appearances.

We have a problem with the system. There may be a solution. Right now, it has no chance of seeing daylight.
