Andy Stern Resigning as Head of SEIU
— Ace

Why?

I hope it's wink-wink spending more time with the family and not really spending more time with the family.

Service Employees International Union President Andrew Stern, one of America's most prominent labor leaders, is set to resign, according to a member of the union's board and another SEIU official.

The President of an SEIU local based in Seattle, Diane Sosne, broke the news to her staffers at 11:35 this morning, local time.

"Last night I received confirmation that Andy Stern is resigning as President of SEIU. He has not yet made a public announcement; we will share the details as we become aware of them," Sosne wrote in an email obtained by POLITICO.

Sosne offered no explanation for the move, but another SEIU official speculated that Stern had finally tired of the draining job.

"Health care getting done is a good culmination," the official said.

An even better culmination? Getting caught with hookers and diet pills.

32 My guess is that he's the Old Guard making way for the new guard: Trumka. It could be a scandal I guess, but it would have to be of the "dead girl or live boy" variety to make an impact on Stern. I don't know of anyone who thinks the guy is anything other than a typical Union sleazebag. It may simply be that, his usefulness having been expended now that the health-care boondoggle is over, he's being put out to pasture.

From wikipedia:

Tom Balanoff is the president of Service Employees International Union Illinois Council and the Vice President of its International Executive Board, as well as the President of SEIU Local 1 with 40,000 janitors and security guards.

He comes from a family of labor union officials.  His father, James Balanoff, Jr, was the president of the largest steelworker's local in the country (Local 1010 based in Gary).  He received Master's degree in Labor from the University of Illinois.

Balanoff gave a speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention supporting Barack Obama for President.

Balanoff is believed to be the unnamed "SEIU official" mentined in the December 9, 2008 federal criminal complaint against Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

I should have been more clear in comment #76 - in comment #66 there was a link to a union email, and the union guys seem to think Tom Balanoff will get the Andy Stern job.  So I copied & pasted the wikipedia on Tom Balanoff.  The entire Balanoff family is well known in Chicago political & union circles.  There's apparently a connection between Blago & Tom Balanoff.

I've been thinking for awhile now that Blago & Mrs. Blago have decided to make themselves tv stars to keep the mob from offing them.  Make themselves too high-profile to touch.  You tick off the wrong people in chi-town next thing you know you're dropping dead from an aspirin overdose.

SCOTUS? Yea, I know its crazy, but I'm starting to believe our CINC is too and that he might actually have the audacity and be insane enough to do it. A libtard co-worker of mine seems to be under the impression that Easy Bake will nominate someone a little right of center to throw a bone to the Republicans and the tea-party crowd and paint himself as a moderate willing to reach across the aisle right before the elections this fall.

I told him he's full of shit, that Wee Wee would nominate someone that was just as far left as he is since he got Sotormayor through and he has the momentum on his side since the healthcare vote. Plus he can poison the court long after he's gone out of office.

I think he'll nominate someone who is as polarizing as Stern is, go the rounds in the nomination process and when the pick fails to get through push someone like a Sunstein through after all of the steam has gone out of the fight. In other words, shoot high, aim low.

If you look at all the news articles going down now you find that is a common theme among some of them. It has become their talking point and is nothing more than a smoke screen.

He will nominate another far left ideologue who is as close to a communist as he can get. This is his last chance before the election and he will not waste it.

I'm sure that Obama's Nuclear Summit will be just as effective as COP15 was. In fact, I'll bet that instead of eliminating nukes, Obama will just spread the wealth and start handing out warheads to third world dictators.

Just another one of those "what if" scenarios.  What if the same scenario evolved under the evil Bush?

119 when you read the comments at the union sites there are many furious people.....apparently their dues were raised like 300%.  There are a lot of comments about "political donations".   They have apparently only just realized that their union contributed, according tot them, more money than any other union to the prez's campaign.  A common theme seems to be that "their money shouldn't go to political donations"

121 Ok, folks, not to go into uber-paranoid mode this early in the morning, but remember how there is a cute little provision in new health care legislation allows the President to put together a para-military organization for use in times of "national emergency" without actually defining what any of that means?  Who better to lead your new cadre of brown shirts than a thug like Stern?

Your're right Vic: From 1st things:

Jim,

Scott Brown was on Howie CarrÂ’s radio show in Boston this afternoon and Howie asked him about why he isnÂ’t attending the rally. Brown just got back from a trip to Afghanistan which I believe was 3 weeks, and he just found out about the rally the other day and he just has too much going on. He mentioned that he missed his daughter AylaÂ’s last basketball game at Boston College because of the trip and his hectic schedule. Ayla is a senior this year so that was the last game of her career. He did mention heÂ’ll be at the upcoming Massachusetts State Republican Convention (I think this weekend).

Scott has really been very good at reaching out to the people who supported him. He went on all the radio shows after his election and went around the state for 4 or 5 days meeting with his supporters and the general public.

In the interview today, he mentioned that since his election he has received 3900 invitations for rallies or to speak to a group, etc. He said it still averages 300 to 400 per week. He is still hiring staff for his office too.

Thanks,
Craig.

OT: Ed Koch blasts obama on Israel - http://bit.ly/cyQAMU

Koch pointedly accused Obama of trying to "so weaken the resolve of the Jewish state and its leaders that it will be much easier to impose on Israel an American plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, leaving IsraelÂ’s needs for security and defensible borders in the lurch."

And he added, "I believe President Obama’s policy is to create a whole new relationship with the Arab states of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, and Iraq as a counter to Iran – The Tyrannosaurus Rex of the Muslim world which we are now prepared to see in possession of a nuclear weapon. If throwing Israel under the bus is needed to accomplish this alliance, so be it."

Reasons to like Confederate History Month:

1.) Toothless goobers get out of their '55 Chevy pick-up trucks, take off their baseball caps, put on nifty grey uniforms and march through town waving cool flags, replicas of the bumper stickers on their pick-up trucks.

2.) Got to see CNN's blowhard, Roland Martin, make a fool of himself (again).

3.)  Every now and then, someone makes a slip of the tongue and inadvertently mentions that it was about states' rights, not slavery.
