If only there were a crisis for which the correct solution was to play golf... -- from t-bird.
The RNC's attempt is below. I often find myself critical of the RNC's ads for the same reason: They try to sell things lightly, through humor. Often this is an effective technique, but some things are more serious than that, and if you try a soft-sell cutesy-funny ad it seems like you, the ad's author, are no more serious than Obama.
I know the first ad is very tough, very dramatic, and maybe that's a turn off, but on some of these you have to go hard, and not try to soften it too much with humor.

C'est vrai. I am amazed how the media isn't even covering this any more. Yeah, that whole "In the coming days and weeks, 90% of the oil will be captured." Whatever happened to that? I hate the media for not doing their job (you know they'd be on this like flies on poo if this happened under George Bush--contrast the coverage of this Gulf Crisis with Katrina). And yeah, Obama's not fit to lead anything, not even a Brownie troop. (Oops, was that racist? I ban myself!)

They both work, it's just a matter of audience targeting, although in this case I think the hard as nails/serious as a heart attack approach is correct for most people.

I would go so far as to say Hussein's obstruction in allowing states to protect their shoreline is criminal and worthy of impeachment. Governors whose states are impacted by the spill should defy the feds and do whats needed to protect their coast. If federal agents step in to obstruct arrest them or shoot them.

Only when the brutal nature of the oil spill is burned into the public consciousness will the true criminal incompetence of Osama Obama be apparent.
If this was the Traitor-in-Chief's sole screwup during his reign, it would be grounds for impeachment if he wasn't an affirmative-action "precedent-breaker."

Now on to a happier note:
Remember the California city of Maywood? The one that went broke, and ceased operations and had to fire all of their employees?
Maywood was the first California city with an elected Hispanic City Council, one of the first "sanctuary" cities for illegal aliens, the first city to pass a resolution calling for a boycott of Arizona after that state passed a law to enforce federal immigration laws, the first California city to order its police department not to enforce state laws requiring drivers to have licenses to drive, the first American city to call on Congress to grant amnesty to all illegals.

I hope you are writing this shit down in a notebook to remind yourself of how things are not to be handled. Every hour of every day of this clusterfuck is a master's course in what-not-to-do.
A few random lessons:
- Decide which agencies and dept are necessary. Clean up the ones that are necessary. Get competent people in place and make sure they are prepared for shit to happen.
- For better or worse we don't live in a patient age, so crises can't be left to fallow. OODA, emphasis on the act part. Search & destroy bottlenecks and incompetence especially if they lie within the Federal gov.
- Don't hold bullshit press conferences. Take your message directly to the citizens. Don't allow mealy-mouth, doublespeak to cross your lips. Tell it straight even if it is an unpopular message. Tell us we may dislike it but it's the best option among many poor ones.
- Don't fucking play golf. Period. Fucking find another activity.
- Above all else, don't be a Democrat. Don't even pretend to be one.

The feds have completely taken over state lands in the name of the EPA, Interior, and 'wetlands' (whatever those are). But the sight of Wee Wee's henchman arresting Jindal would be some pretty powerful imagery.

Actually, Nero played a harp-like instrument called a cithara, as fiddles hadn't been invented yet. Which fits: Barry likes to harp; Barry fancies himself quite the singer and stage presence, just like Nero. Nero put on public performances of singing and acting in order to improve his popularity after the great fire of Rome in AD 64. Nero's last words, according to Suetonius, were "Qualis artifex pereo," or "What an artist is now about to die!" Add "B.S." before "artist" and substitute the Gulf catastrophe for the fire of Rome and you've got our modern Nero.

JackStraw,
I think they'll win big-to-huge, depending on the breaks. The thing to concentrate on is the aftermath. No parties, no funny hats, no boasting. I want to see grim determination, (although a certain amount of score settling with the dems is inevitable). Teach the winners to watch their mouths when they've got cameras shoved in their faces. Unity, America first, cut spending & taxes. The rest will take care of itself.
Posted by: rickinstl at June 29, 2010 02:49 PM (iLoEX)
I think it was a mistake for the govt to assign authority to the federal govt under the Oil Pollution Act (1990). The growing size of bureaucracy has increased the difficulties in cleaning-up this spill. Individuals trying to control a problem outside their realm of expertise is also further complicating things.
As for Jindal, I wish he would tell the feds off & work with the proper experts to do what's necessary to clean-up the spill. (Wish the other Gulf governors would do the same.) If the president doesn't grant authority, then these state officials will just be left waiting solely on BP, & they don't have the time.

1. Obama didn't know the words to "Hey Jude". Guaranteed. He had some of his staffers get him up to speed on who the Beatles were b/c he was listening to crap people get stoned to; furthermore, the Na na na na was on the teleprompter
2. Who cares how effective the ad is? Who is going to see it besides morons? The damn crickets chirping all over the place tells me all I need to know. The MFM should be forced to listen to their caterwauling during Katrina, Clarence Thomas, and any other time someone other than a Marxist or Socialist screwed up. I would like to see anything they said or the Dems said over the past 8 years that directly impugns their actions today.

Plus asking BP & the other oil companies. Admiral Allen has to approve a majority of clean-up procedures before anyone can do anything, & it seems it would be much more helpful for the states to go to the experts instead of a long chain-of-command run by paper-pushers in multiple govt agencies.

Exactly. It seems like the perfect thing to assert states rights on, and think of the point it would make going forward. The fed refused to do the job they usurped, so the states took on their original constitutional duties and got the job done.

United States Patent 4593938
"A welding ring is made as a flat ring body, of internal diameter equal to e internal diameter of the parts to be assembled and of outer diameter in excess of the external diameter of the parts to be assembled by the mount of a peripheral edge on each face of which are regularly distributed alternately six locating reliefs which are placed in abutment against the outer diameters of the parts to be assembled. A method of welding with such a ring is also described."
