— Ace Horrific.
It's not just a religious war. It's a Range War style fight, with farmers against cattle-grazers. In this case, though, the farmers are almost all Christian and the cattle-grazers all Muslims.
Funerals took place for victims of the three-hour orgy of violence on Sunday in three Christian villages close to the northern city of Jos, blamed on members of the mainly Muslim Fulani ethnic group. While troops were deployed to the villages to prevent new attacks, security forces detained 95 suspects but faced bitter criticism over how the killers were able to go on the rampage at a time when a curfew was meant to be in force.
Media reported that Muslim residents of the villages in Plateau state had been warned by phone text message, two days prior to the attack, so they could make good their escape before the exit points were sealed off.
Survivors said the attackers were able to separate the Fulanis from members of the rival Berom group by chanting 'nagge', the Fulani word for cattle. Those who failed to respond in the same language were hacked to death.
One local paper said the gangs shouted Allah Akhbar (God is Great) before breaking into homes and setting them alight in the early hours of Sunday. Churches were among the buildings that were burned down.
...
"We have over 500 killed in three villages and the survivors are busy burying their dead," said state information commissioner Gregory Yenlong.
"People were attacked with axes, daggers and cutlasses -- many of them children, the aged and pregnant women."
Much of the violence was centred around the village of Dogo Nahawa, where gangs set fire to straw-thatched mud huts as they went on their rampage.
The explosion of violence is the latest between rival ethnic and religious groups. In January 326 people died in clashes in and around Jos, according to police although rights activists put the overall toll at more than 550.
"The attack is yet another jihad and provocation," the Plateau State Christian Elders Consulatative Forum (PSCEF) said.

They need to lager up, establish a communication system, put out OPs, and arm themselves. Step two, in the dry season - poison the water sources the Muslims use. Step three, have lots of kids - build more lagers. Step four, establish a non-free range source of cattle (feed lots, etc). Repeat for a decade or two.

I can't/won't speak for Baldilocks, but what I took away from her comment is that if we as civilized people can't comprehend this kind of violence then that is a problem in itself, as it means we have forgotten Man's propensity for evil. The Holocaust Museum serves to keep us from forgetting that.

It's interesting that European countries invited folks from Africa and the Middle East to immigrate. The reason they had to do this was because of the great masses of white Europeans who had been killed off by their "brothers" in the two world wars on battle fields, in gas chambers or in dank forests where no one would see...

Done and done. Where I think we can agree is that we had a great thing in this country in that we could disagree, but still talk about it, and accept it when we were voted down. But there are so many that have now made a god out of unreason and chaos, who worship a corpse-god that they drag out of the swamp of their own worst impulses. They cannot create anything of value, but they can sure as hell destroy. I can accept the type of religious feeling that is awed by the power of the mind and of the possibilities of free will. What I can't accept are those who reject logic and reason, who would either drag us back to a place that never was, or throw out the good with the bad and propel us forward off a cliff. "By their works, ye shall know them." I guess that's all we really have to go on.

Baldilocks, first I didn't realize you were a her. I will try to keep my genders straight. We are all on the same page. The quibble is on understanding vs accepting reality without understanding. I can't understand the mind of a sociopath. Saying God says its okay to commit acts of mayhem and cruelty is not acceptable, whether the voice in your head tells you to or it comes from your emam.
Hitler and his movement started small. It was tolerated or ignored untill it came to be feared. I rail against the cowardice of being politically correct.
Understanding at the deepest level the righteousness of the Islamist would be a like becoming an FBI profiler. One who immerses his mind into the cesspool of a monsters thought. I don't think this requires that level of thought by most people. Thank god there are people willing to do that when neccessary. I think a nail sticking out of a [post and the judicious use of a hammer would be more approbo. I drive the nail all the way in with the hammer to keep from it hurting my family of me. I don't need to understand the nail.
At some point we gave up trying to understand Hitler in all but a tactical sense and applied the force need to remove him as a threat. We are there now, in regards to Islamic terrorism. The Muslims standing on the sidelines either agree with the radicals freely or out of fear. We need to be feared more.
Raw power is respected, whether you understand it or not. You may not know how electricity works but almost anyone knows to stay away from a downed powerline.
I've not been to the Holocaust Museum but I have read accounts of Auschwitz, Dachau and Buchenwald. I have listened to survivors stories and had to choke back tears. I am aware of mans inhumanity to man. Islamo-Facism is just its latest reincarnation.

One of the persistent themes of human history is herding people attacking and conquering settled people. The herding life, particularly herding cattle, translates well into military campaigns. The same tactics used to shape and drive a herd of cattle are useful on the battlefield to outmaneuver the enemy. Generally, the farm folk are at the disadvantage.
The 13th century Muslim historian Ibn Khaldun pointed out this pattern of nomadic people conquering sedentary people in his book, The Muqqadimah. Much of Muslim jihad against the world follows this pattern of raids on settled people. In this respect, skyjacking airliners is little different than attacking camel caravans. Islam at its core is a vehicle for the values of Hejazi Bedouin raiders.

you guys seem to know alot about Islam.. I am sure that you must have read what they call their holy book the Quran.... right? I mean that is the only book that is supposed to contain everything that Islam says.... not some book from a 2nd rate author who presents his own point of view about religions....after all you are civilised people, literate and educated... you probably knew that...and it makes total sense to jump to conclusions about what "Islam" is by observing a minute number of people as compared to a total muslim population of 1657.6million right?... I am sure you also looked at how palestinians were killed, butchered, tortured and thrown out of their own land by some other religious fanatics.... or how about the hindus butchering more than half of the muslims when they were moving to pakistan from india (during the creation of pakistan).... how about what happens in Kashmir EVERY day?..... how about what happened in Iraq? all of you must know about the holocaust... that was a great deal too... and it was horrible!! what about the crusades.. for more than 200 years?.. so why is it that when muslim blood sheds (even before 9/11, not to mention the fact that most of us were stupid enough to believe whatever the media said at that time WITHOUT giving ANY proof) you don't care... and when someone who claims to be a muslim does something terrible you say "Islam is evil... ALL muslims are evil"..so do the crusades make all christians barbaric? how about the Iraq scenario? are all americans barbaric? apparently their soldiers were also involved in some awesome activites (with prisoners etc.) over there.... does it make all americans evil?.. i guess YOUR answers to these questions must be yes.. after all you will apply the same logic you applied in judging ALL muslims....
judaism, christianity, islam..(speaking of these as I know more about them) these religions do not allow killings/massacres of human beings at any cost.... anyone claiming to belong to these religions and doing what's being done out there does not know his/her own religion.... you wanna learn about these religions? pick up their authentic books and read... reading books from 2nd/3rd rate authors who don't even have the authority to speak about religions is not a good idea.... stop making useless, baseless, and illogical accusations.... and stop being idiots who believe the media blindly.... have the courage to think for yourself
sincerely,
-a comparative religion student
p.s. dont reply... i wont waste more time on this than I already have...
kisses to all of you
