Arizona Cop-Shooter Suspects Detained; Left Protests "Illegal Profiling" of Thugs Carrying AK-47s
— Ace

I made up that last part, but you know they're thinking it.

Seventeen people have been detained in the search for suspects in Fridays shooting of Pinal County Sheriffs Deputy Louis Puroll by suspected drug smugglers in an isolated area of south-central Arizona.

Pinal County Lt. Tami Villar says 14 of those detained are suspected of being illegal immigrants, while three match the description given of the shooters give by Puroll.

The 14 suspected illegal immigrants are being held by Border Patrol, while the three suspects are being questioned by the Pinal SheriffÂ’s office.

Background at Hot Air. They shot a cop and then shot at the helicopters tracking them.

But let's ignore this mayhem because it's politically inconvenient for our Cultural Masters in DC and it's better that Arizonans should die and be terrorized than that our Cultural Masters should be disturbed off their talking points.

Peggy Noonan's column is worth reading in full.

We are at a remarkable moment. We have an open, 2,000-mile border to our south, and the entity with the power to enforce the law and impose safety and order will not do it. Wall Street collapsed, taking Main Street's money with it, and the government can't really figure out what to do about it because the government itself was deeply implicated in the crash, and both political parties are full of people whose political careers have been made possible by Wall Street contributions. Meanwhile we pass huge laws, bills so comprehensive, omnibus and transformative that no one knows what's in them and no one—literally, no one—knows how exactly they will be executed or interpreted. Citizens search for new laws online, pore over them at night, and come away knowing no more than they did before they typed "dot-gov."

It is not that no one's in control. Washington is full of people who insist they're in control and who go to great lengths to display their power. It's that no one takes responsibility and authority. Washington daily delivers to the people two stark and utterly conflicting messages: "We control everything" and "You're on your own."

All this contributes to a deep and growing alienation between the people of America and the government of America in Washington.

...

The establishments of the American political parties, and the media, are full of people who think concern about illegal immigration is a mark of racism. If you were Freud you might say, "How odd that's where their minds so quickly go, how strange they're so eager to point an accusing finger. Could they be projecting onto others their own, heavily defended-against inner emotions?" But let's not do Freud, he's too interesting. Maybe they're just smug and sanctimonious.

The American president has the power to control America's borders if he wants to, but George W. Bush and Barack Obama did not and do not want to, and for the same reason, and we all know what it is. The fastest-growing demographic in America is the Hispanic vote, and if either party cracks down on illegal immigration, it risks losing that vote for generations.

But while the Democrats worry about the prospects of the Democrats and the Republicans about the well-being of the Republicans, who worries about America?

No one. Which the American people have noticed, and which adds to the dangerous alienation—actually it's at the heart of the alienation—of the age.

In the past four years, I have argued in this space that nothing can or should be done, no new federal law passed, until the border itself is secure. That is the predicate, the common sense first step. Once existing laws are enforced and the border made peaceful, everyone in the country will be able to breathe easier and consider, without an air of clamor and crisis, what should be done next. What might that be? How about relax, see where we are, and absorb. Pass a small, clear law—say, one granting citizenship to all who serve two years in the armed forces—and then go have a Coke. Not everything has to be settled right away. Only controlling the border has to be settled right away.

Instead, our national establishments deliberately allow the crisis to grow and fester, ignoring public unrest and amusing themselves by damning anyone's attempt to deal with the problem they fear to address.

Why does the federal government do this? Because so many within it are stupid and unimaginative and don't trust the American people. Which of course the American people have noticed.

If the federal government and our political parties were imaginative, they would understand that it is actually in their interests to restore peace and order to the border. It would be a way of demonstrating that our government is still capable of functioning, that it is still to some degree connected to the people's will, that it has the broader interests of the country in mind.

The American people fear they are losing their place and authority in the daily, unwinding drama of American history. They feel increasingly alienated from their government. And alienation, again, is often followed by deep animosity, and animosity by the breaking up of things. If our leaders were farsighted not only for themselves but for the country, they would fix the border.

Good Point: Allah notes at the end of this post on Connie Mack calling the Arizona law "Gestapo-like" that would presumably make the shooting of the cop moral and justified -- you're supposed to resist the Gestapo with force, right?

Noonan is only half right. Obama keeps the border open to expand his party's base. George Bush kept the border open to expand Tyson Chicken's bottom line.

Let's not sugar coat it: George Bush gave no shit about the future of the Republican party. He (and his asshole advisors) invented that silly farce about illegals doing the jobs Americans refuse to do.

The truth is Americans refuse to do those jobs...for peanuts. The illegals are willing to work for peanuts and that's why Bush allowed them in the country. I don't know if it was a convoluted plan to hurt the unions, or what, but it sure did help the businesses profit margin.

Perhaps related: One trait about Bush-43 was the way he approached Social Security reform: Baby steps. Start small, see how it works, the fixes will be small, take another step.

(And if sarcasm is permitted in the comments section, it's a good thing we had upstanding, disinterested public servants like the Honorable Senator Dodd to prevent Bush from accomplishing anything in that regard.)

12 >We are at a remarkable moment.

Er ... you're over a year late, Pegs.

>We have an open, 2,000-mile border to our south, and the entity with the power to enforce the law and impose safety and order will not do it.

A couple of things; the government doesn't impose safety, and the federal government is not just refusing to do its job, it's working against the citizenry and for the illegals, for an invading enemy.

>Wall Street collapsed, taking Main Street's money with it, and the government can't really figure out what to do about it because the government itself was deeply implicated in the crash, and both political parties are full of people whose political careers have been made possible by Wall Street contributions.

Again, Peggy has it wrong.  It's not campaign donations that are the source of the problem with our financial system, but lefty idiocy that knows no bounds.  That was the source of the problem and we have done nothing but move more and more leftward since the crisis hit.  Nice of Pegs to pretend that it's an apolitical issue, though.

>Meanwhile we pass huge laws, bills so comprehensive, omnibus and transformative that no one knows what's in them and no one—literally, no one—knows how exactly they will be executed or interpreted.

These bills are not comprehensive.  They are overreaching, which is a distinction that problem doesn't exist in Peg's world.  The fact that they are passed with the specific intent that no one shall read them before voting is the main problem, which Noonan once again trampled all over.

>It's that no one takes responsibility and authority. Washington daily delivers to the people two stark and utterly conflicting messages: "We control everything" and "You're on your own."

I caught the "We control everything" part, but I must have missed the "you're on your own" declaration.  I wish they said that.  What station does Peggy listen to.  Maybe the federal government sounds better on it than what I can gather over cable and the internet.

>All this contributes to a deep and growing alienation between the people of America and the government of America in Washington.

Boy, if Peggy really knew what was happening, she'd think that "a deep and growing alienation" had already long passed and that we were into 'the nation will split' territory, now.  Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

I would have to disagree.  Bush is a globalist who really doesn't like the idea of the nation-state.  That seems to be a long-standing Bush family problem.  His dad empowered the UN just as the USSR was disappearing from history - one of the dumbest moves of all time, and W. let the UN tear him a new one and still empowered them further.

As to Rove, I just can't figure that one out.  I don't think he's looking to Hispanics to be a natural constituency of Republicans, but I think he's scared that they'll become a totally Democrat group.  It doesn't matter, though, because to destroy the US in order to preserve some future votes is just stupid.  Of course, that's why Bush and Rove came in with the GOP having all of Washington and left with the GOP almost destroyed as a party (thanks to Shamnesty, for the most part, and Bush's refusal to fight wars correctly or tell the UN where to get off).

One huge assumption the "group think" demographers always make is that this coalition will always subvert their own interests. About the only thing they have in common is "the MAN", and once straight white males are disempowered, they'll start fighting among themselves. In many neighborhoods, hispanic gangs are killing blacks to drive the rest out. Blacks and Hispanics were the only groups that voted more than 50 percent for Prop 8, but the gays still target straight whites. How long will those poor peaceful muslims tolerate gays on "their streets"

Has anyone pointed out that a lot of illegals don't want citizenship?

Why would they? Why do they want to pay taxes when they can get paid under the table and have everything else picked up by the American taxpayer?

Many illegals work for part of the year and then go home to Mexico. I knew a chick in school who got married and was moving to Texas to go to law school. They were building a new house there and she complained to me that the construction workers essentially went home to Mexico over the winter and thus it was taking a lot longer to get the house finished.

I agree that Rove's concern is that the Hispanic vote will lock in the way the black vote has.  But I think he is wrong because this assumes that nothing else will change as a result.  If the black and Hispanic votes start marching in lockstep, my intuition is that a lot of current Dems will decide that they party is no longer for them.  You can compare it to the majority minority voting districts, where the candidates are way out on the fringe, and the majority of Americans want nothing to do with them.

Posted by: Garbonzo the Garrulous at May 01, 2010 02:51 PM (zgd5N)

Don't be sorry, Garbonzo.  Peggy's wrong.

The main problem that caused the credit crisis was the federal government's forced misvaluation of debt, which propagated through the whole debt market and eventually was rectified only through a massive collapse (though that was stopped by moving private liabilities onto the public books and totally depleting all monetary tools at our disposal - for only temporary relief).  That was what did it.  Wall street just jumped in after they were beaten over the head by the government to take the misvalued debt and treat like it was fine (the implicit guarantee of Fannie and Freddie and everyone assumed and was eventually made good).

Sure, there problems of regulation.  The fact that Vikram Pundithead could actually say that Citi didn't factor a stagnant or falling real estate market into their risk assessments (when we just came out of a real estate downturn less than 20 years ago) showed the extreme stupidity that was at work.  But, that had nothing to do with campaign contributions or politics.  That was just plain old retardation.

For the most part, the credit crisis (and related injury to our monetary system) was caused by the forced misvaluation of debt which was the result of social engineering by the left.  They did it without any overt federal expendtures and the crisis was the actual cost of their lunacy.

Do you mean like the law George W. Bush signed in 2004? Yeah I know it still happens, so does murder.

· Increase penalties by two years for anyone who commits A "aggravated identity theft" in order to commit another serious Federal offense (including immigration violations, false citizenship crimes, firearms offenses, Social Security fraud, government theft, and other serious crimes);

· Increase penalties by five years for anyone who commits identity theft for the purpose of committing a terrorist act;

· Expand the maximum penalty for identity theft under Federal law from three to five years;

· Clarify that the twenty-five year maximum sentence for identity theft in facilitating terrorism applies to both international and domestic terrorism; and

· Add the word "possess" to the Federal identity theft statute so that law enforcement can target individuals who possess identity documents with the intent to commit another crime.

· Direct the Sentencing Commission to amend its guidelines in order to punish insider offenses that involve an "abuse of trust" of the person's position.

· Authorize $2 million each year for fiscal years 2005 to 2009 to the Department of Justice for the investigation and prosecution of identity theft and related credit card and other fraud cases.

59 To the extent that Peggy Noonan has had any influence is one of the problems we have. She was warm and cuddly with the One when many of us true conservatives were warning about this clown the best we could. She had a platform, which she rides her high-horse on to push the mediocre middle of the road agenda. She should be shamed and avoided for this travesty in my opinion.

Since she is a person of influence, she is just as bad as those like McCain and Graham in my opinion.

Tell me where I am wrong? I am certainly willing and able to stand corrected, unlike the Nixonian people such as Noonan, McCain and Graham. (Uh, you could throw Steele in there as well.)

91 Comrades, dissent is no longer patriotic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – In a blunt caution to political friend and foe, President Barack Obama said Saturday that partisan rants and name-calling under the guise of legitimate discourse pose a serious danger to America's democracy, and may incite "extreme elements" to violence.

The comments, in a graduation speech at the University of Michigan's huge football stadium, were Obama's most direct take about the angry politics that have engulfed his young presidency after long clashes over health care, taxes and the role of government.

It's alright for Barry to threaten CEOs, industries and individuals but no one better dare even question Comrade Chairman MaObama

they get paid in cash.  They have no taxes to pay whatsoever.  They actually, if it were taxable income, make more than a lot of American citizens.   Just because you don't pay income tax does not mean that taxes don't come out of your paycheck.  There are taxes in your paycheck that are a gift to the government and are not returnable.

I heard a rumor that they are having trouble finding judges to appoint cause they all have illegal maids.   The problem is, they paid them in cash and didn't cover them with Worker's compensation.   Therefore, they can't be appointed to a judgeship or everyone would find out and go nuts.

97 Many illegals, if they want to become illegal at all do not want to stay here long term. I had a neighbor who was illegal and I did not find that out until I was fixing to move away. He had a ss card, a dl, and was working just like anyone else, but had forged documents.

He was building a house in Mexico and furnishing it and had plans to retire to Mexico after he earned enough money, since Mexico is dirt cheap compared to the USA. He, like many others, was renting a room for him and his wife from a widowed white woman. I wonder how many thousands of others are usurping and breaking the law like him and his culprit in crime, the lady that was housing him. Other houses on the street had house fulls of illegals but I never heard anyone in the neighborhood say or mention anything approaching any kind of concern. These neighborhoods many have a change in mindset once these illegals start causing the problems they are now doing.

I honestly thought the guy was legal and did not know until he drunkenly admitted it one night just before I moved away. I had known him for 7 years before this and had no idea that he was here illegally. He had been here for over 25 years!

I am to blame in not finding out and reporting him, but should I have just came out and asked him?

Del Rio was a low crime town with hard working people. Almost none of the problems you hear about in other border towns. And certainly no desire to be part of Mexico. We'd lived there for two years when we were driving along and saw a Mexican flag. My son didn't know what flag it was because we never saw them.

I don't think that was intended as such.

However, I will say that you can find copies of "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" at many bookstores in Mexico. It seems to fit into the low-brow conspiracy literature that is so popular down there. My Mexican Jewish friends just shrug it off.

I was in one of the only two bookstores in Nuevo Laredo years ago and found a copy of the book. I went up to the owner and asked him what the hell this was, he just shrugged and said he put it in the Astrology section with all the other crap.

We have lots of "hidden Jews" here on the border as well - they descended from the Jewish families back in the Inquisition days down in Mexico City.

Mexico was somewhat pro-Nazi back during WWII. Read "Under the Volcano", and it describes it. But they never exactly excelled at it, and many thousands of Jews settled in Mexico when they escaped from Europe in the thirties and were not permitted to enter the US.

And now, back to the topic at hand...which I think is Fraulein M's demand to see her parents' papers or something.

Whenever I  would work around that area I loved to go over to Ciudad Acuna

We never did go. It was a bit too much of a hassle just to go out to eat and/or shop with the kids, but it was sure popular to do.* They did have some problems there which led to Air Force people either having a curfew or not being allowed to cross over at all.

*Crossings went down a bunch when they new laws about needing passports and such went into effect.

No surprise.  The arabs claim that shooting guns in the air is part of their cultural traditions, but they haven't had guns for very long, and they have no history of ever producing guns or any intimate connection to them, either.  I hate to think of what the arab weddings used to look like 100 years ago, with all the lunatics throwing their swords in the air, hacking people every which way as the swords came craxhing down to Earth on the wedding parties.

Democrats got the black vote by a combination of the southern strategy by Nixon aids and the democrats started giving them more free stuff.

The democrats keep the black vote by keeping them trapped in the inner city by poverty forcing them to depend on the government freebies the democrats provide. Democrats are doing the same with latinos now. They don't want them to assimilate and enact programs to keep them as a seperate society they can control and keep in poverty.

Latinos and blacks are just like everyone else, if you let them escape the ghettos democrats want to keep them trapped in there vote changes to about 50/50. In latinos case it even skews republican. As long as you keep them trapped together in poverty like the democrats do they will vote together.

There is not a day that goes by in AZ that there isn't a police chase of vehicles filled with illegals. They either stop and like a clown car in a circus 15 or 20 will pore out of the vehicle and make a run for the desert. Or they drive like loons crash, scatter bodies all over the road and fill the emergency rooms for free medical care. Phoenix is the kidnap capitol of the world. Mexican Gangs are rampant, killings are commonplace. Drop houses are everywhere, illegals are held against their will, raped, threatened and forced to pay the coyotes large sums of money. The dirty secret is that most illegals are taken advantaged of by their fellow countryman. A few weeks ago there was a major smuggling ring busted in the Tucson/Phoenix area. The largest in US history. Look it up the MSN won't cover it. Look up the surnames of the shuttle bus companies. Like the country they come from the Patrones, the ruling class keep the peons uneducated and frightened, and economically rape their fellow countryman.

The cost to the citizens of AZ and the country is in the hundred of millions.

I don't know exactly why it's so different. It may be due to Operation Streamline. It may be because there is enough law enforcement, between the city police, the sheriff, BP, the base security, etc. etc. Whatever the reasons, it can be different.

159 A little nugget from the Indonesian Imbecile's commencement speech, today. He shows why universities love people with 83 IQs to instruct their graduates:
----------------------------------

But it was the last question from the last student in the letter that gave me pause. The student asked, “Are people being nice?” Are people being nice?

And people wonder why this retard was called "The Great Orator" ...

Well, if you turn on the news today, or yesterday, or a week ago, or a month ago –- particularly one of the cable channels -– (laughter) — you can see why even a kindergartener would ask this question. (Laughter.)

The Precedent joking with college kids about kindergarteners and Fox News. Yep, that's about right for them. All of them.

After that idiocy, the Indonesian Imbecile flails along some more and comes up with this gem:

And as our world grows smaller and more connected, you will live and work with more people who donÂ’t look like you or think like you or come from where you do.

"Come from where you do"??  Is that how they teach people to speak at Columbia and Harvard?  Clearly, this is Nobel Prize level speechifying.  But, he is correct in his assessment that they don't think as we think.  That's why the US is the greatest nation ever and theirs aren't.  People ought to take this idea of "[they don't] think like you" more seriously, as The Precedent is a product of Indonesian schools and he thinks as an Indonesian, not a natural born American.

That BS about the "Nixon Southern Strategy" is a lie propagated by the Demoncraps and spread by the media for them.

Southerners started abandoning the Democrap Party long before Nixon.  It actually started with Goldwater and it had a whole lot more to do with the Demoncraps turning into anti-military peacenicks as well as welfare pushers.

And yes, the blacks started switching to Dems with the LBJ rule when he began the "great society" which eventually destroyed the black family structure.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) was arrested outside the White House on Saturday during a May Day protest for immigration reform.

Guiterrez had been speaking to a crowd of hundreds at Lafayette Square when he announced that he was going to go to the White House fence with other protesters, sit down, and not move until he was arrested or until comprehensive immigration reform was signed.

On one hand, he's not in any real danger of repercussions (unlike the little people who got arrested with him... ) like job loss, jail time, or fines 'cause he's a D.  On the other, I kind of like seeing Ds bash each other.

Well, if this crisis ends up becoming what a lot of people think it will become, it's gonna make the Great Depression look like a bad day of sales at a lemonade stand.

And we all know what happened during the last Great Depression.

Do you mean McCain? Well, let's see:

My friends,

Vote McCain in 2010!

I'm proposing legislation requiring all foreigners to have identification numbers printed on their foreheads.

I've also petitioned the White House for a declaration of war against Mexico. This would require the use of nuclear weapons against all major metropolitan areas inside the Mexican border as well as the use of tactical nukes and biological and chemical weapons on the border.

Will you remember to vote for me in 2010?

Just so you know, I killed two illegal aliens before breakfast today. 209 Considering that I live in Seattle, the fact that the comments are like that leads me to believe that on this issue the politicians, celebrities, and illegal immigrant supporters have totally read the mood of the nation wrong.

Posted by: ParanoidGirlInSeattle at May 01, 2010 05:37 PM (RZ8pf)

The political and media classes are so far apart from the citizenry on illegal aliens that it is beyond amazing.  THe push for Shamnesty first killed the GOP and then, just one word from Shrillary about supporting Spitzer's treasonous "licenses for illegals" during a primary debate was enough to sink her candidacy, as well as dragging Spitzer down from approval ratings around 70% down to something like 35% in a couple of weeks.

America wants the illegals thrown out, as they have no right to be here and are spitting in our faces with every day they stay.  The politicians just don't get this, and they don't realize that the citizenry is much more powerful than a bunch of screaming illegals and hispanderers.

And all this "racial" bullshit is wearing on people's last nerve.  Every American knows that English as a mother tongue is pretty sure separator between Americans and non-Americans.  Some naturalized Americans will get caught in the net, but that's just tough.  But, these politicians are pushing to somehow convince people that it's impossible to understand what an average American is.  Of course, these are the same yahoos who allowed an ineligible Indonesian to take control of the Executive branch and run our nation into the toilet ...

It's not about money-- trust me on this one.  It's about commie politics.  Bishops are perfectly happy to empty the churches if it means more felt banners and tabernacles made to look like potted plants.  They don't care.

You will note that only single bishops came forward to denounce Obama's honorary degree at Notre Dame, a direct defiance of the bishops' order to Catholic colleges to only provide honors and a platform for those who support the aims of the Church.  You heard not a peep from the body as a whole.  Why?  Why, the BoyKing's his politics are proper, of course.  The only speakers that provision was meant to block are those who espouse conservative politics and are anti-illegal raaaaaaaaaaciiiiiiiiiists.

220 I think Peggy would now finally admit that Baracky himself is stupid. He is playing the politics of the '60s to an audience that is now largely not racist or homophobic or uneducated in the ways of Alinskyism. Yet he governs like an student SDS president of a state university.

His election marked the culmination of leftism in the US, not the beginning of it. His piss poor performance is a bad thing in one way but very good in another way. We now know conclusively that the boomer leftists are incompetent jackasses, not our moral and intellectual betters.

Buh-bye Baracky.

If a baseball coach gets caught perving on children, he's fired. That's a strong deterrent. I question your statistics, anyway, because the church doesn't report too many incidents.

Posted by: Tattoo De Plane at May 01, 2010 06:21 PM (mHQ7T)

235 Well, they're not "my" statistics-- rather, those of CA psychologist Thomas Plante, who's been on the notably pro-Catholic NPR.  The WaPo has published similar numbers.

Here's the thing:  The problem with the shuffling of priests from parish to parish happened after Vatican II when a bunch of leftist psychologists got involved and informed the Church that the compassionate thing to do was to ensure that sexually abusive priests should be "rehabilitated" rather than yanked from public contact.  The ridiculousness only began to be addressed when then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger began forcing the incompetent pro-shuffling US bishops to turn matters over to Rome.

The approach to the problem until recently wasn't at all acceptable, but in no way does that slur represent all priests, many of whom lead tireless, selfless lives.

Yeah, I got that, and it really doesn't move me. The Church can claim they're dealing with the problem as they see fit. But what they've been doing is hiding the problem until the scandal blew up. Coddling pedophiles was their policy.

Rather than slurring priests, I am pointing up a pattern of chronic dysfunction where political considerations are put ahead of the parishioners' welfare. The Catholic church has a long-standing history of hypocrisy. Winks and nods at abortion, encouraging theft and other crimes, covering up child abuse... it's not a pretty picture.

Connie Mack is a buffoon who either hasn't read the law in question or is seriously lacking in elementary reading comprehension.

"More likely he's a corporate shill that's been sitting around with the other traitors at the Chamber of Commerce laughing about how much they can undercut our salaries by flooding the nation with illegals."

Uh, it's both: they're not mutually exclusive.  Remember that this is Connie Mack IV, not his father the former senator: he is a mouth-breathing trustafarian imbecile whose head would fall off without his handlers to keep it on.  Seriously, the guy makes Linc Chafee look like a hard-working genius.

Emphasis on the past tense:  It WAS the (unspoken) policy.  And we are very much in agreement that it was in no way acceptable.

But your original comment was extremely broad, and caught in the thousands and thousands of priests who are in no way involved in this.  As Angry Beaver said, the enemy here is the left, and the left is using this ridiculous meme as a blunt weapon, even though the numbers on abuse in Protestant congregations is about the same. And I'm sorry, but wherever I see it, I'm going to speak up, even if it's against a fellow moron.
