Arrr, Landlubber News Bites
— Gabriel Malor

Ahoy, Brethren o' the Flaming Skull, it's Talk Like A Pirate Day and here's the word in dinghy-sized pieces:

Ahmadinejacket is in New York City. He's offering to return the two remaining U.S. citizen hikers in exchange for eight Iranians convicted here of violating sanctions. He also says the stories about that woman sentenced to lashes and stoning were propaganda by the American media.

Fox News has a bit of fun with Christine O'Donnell with the headline "Campaign: No Magical Explanation for O'Donnell's 'Witchcraft' Confession." According to O'Donnell's campaign, the witch video had nothing to do with her decision to back out of the Sunday shows. She wanted to attend church and a Republican Party picnic in Sussex County, which played a major role in her winning the nomination. The campaign says they didn't even know of the Maher video until Saturday afternoon.

The latest film to suggest that Boston is a deathtrap, Ben Affleck's The Town, is box office gold. Has Affleck finally earned his way back into our good graces after Pearl Harbor and Gigli? And, about Boston, eesh: Boondock Saints, The Departed, Mystic River, Gone, Baby, Gone. Movies don't lie; it's a place to run from, mateys (you thought I'd forgotten).

Finally, Legal Insurrection provides a sterling example of how not to end the intra-party feuding over O'Donnell's nomination. He's absolutely right that she's our candidate, so let's all act like it. He's absolutely a hypocrite to then slander his opponents by suggesting they opposed O'Donnell to get "high blog traffic." And he's out of his freakin' mind to then suggest that the Powerline guys or Patterico or, well, us don't want "to see our kids grow up in a nation in which the state is the servant not the master." As longtime moron It's Vintage, Duh observed to me, some people are demanding "unity" in the same sense that Democrats demand "bipartisanship."

Yeah, when we all know the way to end the feuding is to fist-fuck Leftist memes about her to death so [cough, cough] we can all keep up with what the MFM is saying about her.

See you all on other threads. This is the last one I look at with O'Donnell as a theme.

"As longtime moron It's Vintage, Duh observed to me, some people are demanding "unity" in the same sense that Democrats demand "bipartisanship.""

Except of course it was *YOU* who was demanding that all conservatives get behind McCain in 2008 because ... he was "our" candidate.

In fact you were pretty much in a fucking high dudgeon for weeks because conservatives like myself were still opposed to McCain and didn't want to support his lame old ass.  You want us to dig that shit up Mr. Fucking McFuck?

So don't give me any fucking shit about O'Donnell.

8 Heh, Boston is bad because they use guns. Try the half-assed "mini-Southies" in MA cities like Worcester, Springfield, Brockton, etc. I know families whose members have been fist fighting every time they see each other for generations. Hell, I'm in a running feud that's spanned at least 20 years.

fuck that, my comment is too good to be pushed down

We need to get rid of all (R)'s who are in favor of "working with Democrats" and coming up with "bipartisan" solutions.

First of all, no more solutions, please. You've done enough damage while fixing things, already. Second, I want conservative legislation coming out of Congress, not half-Republican, half-Democrat 2000-page pork-laden bills that do nothing but add more bureaucracy.

If this makes me a purity voter...it's time for a 3rd party.

In fact why don't you shut your stinking fucking piehole about O'Donnell completely for the entire election cycle?  Because I'm totally fucking sick of assholes like you shouting one fucking thing when it's your fucking candidate and then doing something else when it's not.

You're a hypocrite and I frankly don't want to hear it anymore.  And no, I'm not an O'Donnell supporter either.  I really don't give a rat's ass about her.  I'm just fucking sick of getting lectured by asshats like you.

I opposed McCain vigorously (and so did every other blogger here at the HQ), right up until he became the GOP nominee. Then we all took a deep breath, recognized that he would be better than Obama, and supported him.

Are you suggesting that we should have continued to oppose McCain, even after he won the GOP nomination? Because that's fucked up.

What Georgia said.  We've gone so far to the 'lets play nice with the other side' left that we ran McCain...A liberal (NOT a RINO, but someone 20 years ago would have been seen as leftist).

We keep conceding ground and giving in only to give in more and concede more.  Face it, we've been expected to be doormats.

I think it's bizarre that we let the MFM and Libs set the playing field, pick the music, tell everyone what to wear and we comply!

You just want high blog traffic.  That's how you're getting high blog traffic.

I wrote a long response in his comments this morning, and it wouldn't post:  "Your blah blah blah couldn't be verified" or whatever.  The gist was, I suggested the way to go about getting rid of his laundry list of bad things in the future would be to ensure we get control of the Senate.

And check the headlines re O'Donnell.  More news today about how she's been spending campaign money--even when she didn't have a campaign:  Bowling, pizza, etc.  Allegedly.  And allegedly "flat out illegal."

I hope that's not the case, because people didn't give her money to hit the lanes and eat cheeseburgers.  That would be a large breach of trust.

My convictions tell me to do all within my power to make sure that Fiorina, Rossi, Angle, Buck, Kirk, that guy in North Dakota with the hot daughter, Boozeman, Coats,Toomey,O'Donnell, Raese, McMahon, and DioGuardi get elected in November. That Kirk, O'Donnell, DioGuardi and Raese win to buffer in the Lame Duck. Fuck, if Hoffman and Wargotz can make it a race too in Oregon and Maryland my convictions say help them too. Fuck 51. My convictions say 55. That buffers us IF (and thats, despite media hype, a big if) Snowe AND Collins both bolt. Not to mention Webb, Nelson, Nelson, Testor, McCaskill and Sherrod Brown would begin shitting themselves on our monstertruck-steamroller rampage towards 60 in 2012. /// The shit over who said shit/didn't say shit, whether the shit is really shit or just that fake doggy poo from Things You Never Knew Existed, whether O'Donnell/Castle/Palin/etc is a RINO/RINOkiller, the purity campaign to purge RINOS NOT EVEN FUCKING UP THIS CYCLE, the attack on those who want to purge Rinos...all of this is just shoving our dicks deeper and deeper in wet cement. Why act like each snippet is some grand revelation? Bottom line it's from a stupid TV show 10 years ago who's format was an argument specifically designed so that the opposing sides took the most extreme positions and said the most extreme things. You don't have a show called Politically Incorrect and then have everybody make nice-nice.

The spending was already addressed on NRO, and by someone who had thought her to be a poor candidate. A politician is allowed to draw a salary from the campaign. I agree that incorrect spending is just that. If that is going on here, that could have been addressed long before this election. That it was not, and that she apparently survived one brush with the IRS tells me that there isn't much here. Certainly not the same league as Obama with AVS, or Rangel, or Hell, most of Obamas' cabinet.

Who says she didn't have a campaign? The woman ran in 2006 and 2008 and did better each time. I'm sure she announced the minute Biden resigned. So yes they are all campaign expenses. Somehow eating cheeseburgers and hitting the lanes are a breach of trust but flying your ass to NYC, staying in 5 star hotels and eating catered food for fundraisers on all the campaign's expense is all fine and dandy now? BS.

Exactly. You took a dim view of O'Donnell, as did I. The primary is over, and you are supporting the party choice, such as she is. Why some blogs are waging this war I don't know.  I realize that she is the candidate and what is more, I realize that I don't live in Delaware so really it is not my business anyway. When it gets right down to it the people of Delaware are the ones who will make the choice...but that does not mean I don't have a right to my opinion.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the only difference between Olbermann and Maddow and Kos and some of their counterparts in the world of rightie pundits is their politics...the personalities and tactics are much the same from time to time.

Apparently, making a hit-and-run post over at HA, and then running back to AoS is your style.  OK.  I'll follow you over and repost here.

For a guy with a supposed law degree, you've got some serious reading comprehension issues.

The article isnÂ’t talking about voicing opinions, LI is referring to this:

To that end, they regurgitate every snippet of gossip and every tape from the 1990s without context or reflection, much less waiting until the OÂ’Donnell campaign has a chance to respond.

Will every Maher snippet be replayed around the right-wing blogosphere, accompanied by another round of “I-told-you-she-was-unelectable” recriminations? If so, why? Because you actually think a guy who gets even fewer viewers than Chris Matthews, clipping selectively edited decade old snippets, is newsworthy?

Recall that Maher is the guy who thinks that the American voters are too stupid to be entrusted with the vote, and now heÂ’s out to prove it.

And, not to burst your bubble, but: “you decided to take on bigger blogs in the ‘sphere?”

Get over yourself. YouÂ’re all small potatoes -- even if you do all tweet back and forth, and occasionally even get a response from someone famous.

(I realize that you just made that comment over at HA to make a supposed point about "how does it feel to have your motives questioned?" or some such, but, actually, when people keep up with the "see-I-told-you-she-can't-win" crap, while still maintaining that "she's our candidate, so let's all act like it," then motives deserve to be questioned.)

Are you insane?! Most of us would get right behind Castle just like we got right behind McCain even though he sucked balls, so please stop tossing around this BS strawman that those of us backing the only candidate we have would have dumped...the only candidate we would have had, just so we could act like a bunch of petulant children that think putting a lunatic, tax-hiking, Marxist in office over a RINO would even be on the radar for 95% of us.

I like to think that Team Castle would have, by now, realized that COONS is the enemy, not OD, and that we should perhaps think about taking him apart instead of the only bloody candidate we have.

But no, being 'right' (yet to be seen) is more important than actually winning because, ya know, you guys have ethics and we don't...

I did not say you did not have ethics. It is just that after having been told a couple of thousand times that it would be better to have Coons the Democrat than Castle the RINO in there, I kind of got the impression that RINO hunting was more important than winning.

and no, I am not insane. As for getting behind O'Donnell, fine, I would rather see the Republican win...that does not mean that I don't have some reservations about her.

Yes, some did. Others did not. Some like myself wanted O'Donnell but voted for Castle, so as to avoid the scrutiny that she is getting, that most of the in crowd doesn't get. The fact remains that she's the candidate, blogs and posters who could be helping the cause are fighting each other, and dead-enders are flailing around for lifelines and candidates are in need of money and labor. Get it together people.

Oh, sorry - had a Blazing Saddles moment.

But yes: the primaries are OVER.  Nobody has a time machine that would let us all go back and change the results, so the only choice available to us now is to support the current crop of Republican candidates or watch the Democrats retain dominion over our lives.  I'll support Kirk and O'Donnell in equal measure at this point, because the goal right now is to get as many Senators with the R by their names as possible.  On November 3rd, we can restart the war over who to nominate for 2012;  until then, focus on defeating the Democrats.

75 We don't have the time or energy to waste ourselves on this stupid shit anymore. If we have a blowout in the Senate races, BOTH sides end up pointing to a victory- for the establishment, they have a majority of 55-45 in the Senate (again if the blowout scenario happened). for the true conservatives, they have a base of DeMinters- O'Donnell, Toomey, Johnson, Angle, Buck, Raese and DioGuardi. Conservatives also have some less-than-perfect but party loyal moderates(but not RINOS): Rossi, Fiorina, Kirk, Coats, that guy in ND, Boozeman, McMahon. ALL of them are running on and will win with a conservative message of less spending and focusing on pro-business job growth. The few who toyed with trying to run the "moderate in the general" method, like Kirk, suffered in polling and went to the right to win and maintain support. The fundamental dynamic of the election is a HARD SHIFT to the right, even by the most moderate of the potential candidates. WINNING should please the party crowd, winning with more conservatives should please the true-bloods.

I donated to O'Donnell as did my wife. Both of us are independents.

Did O'Donnell's make some stupid comments when she was young? Yes.  But who hasn't?

Frankly, she could she say she practices witchcraft now, and independents wouldn't care as long as she votes against Mr. Marxist in the WH.

Will her stupid comments from her younger days make a difference in my small business?  No.  But her votes will help me and other businesses and individuals in this country.  This is not a governorship, this is a senate seat.

She opposes cap n tax, DeathCare, and will oppose the Marxist in the WH as well as DE, and that is all that matters to independents.

Ignore Bill Maher, people of DE won't care what this millionaire scumbag has to say.

I thought the primary was over and here you are still smacking Castle around.

I supported Castle, because he voted against Obamacare, he voted against the stimulus, he voted for the tax cuts and he had the best chance of winning for the Republicans.

I did not feel comfortable with O'Donnell because of some of the strange things she has said and done, I had the feeling that there was more bad out there and I just did not trust her. Sorry. I can not help that. And the fact that anyone who asks about any of those things was shouted down and yelled at accused of all sorts of crap just for being curious did not help.

But like I said, I am not from Delaware, so it is not up to me anyway.

86 Mon Cher Gabriel,

Plots and conspiracies against all true conservatives are multiplying at an alarming rate. Scarcely a week goes by without another explosion. This is hardly surprising, however. Ever since the foolish People became content with breaking up the conspiracies by RINOs instead of purging every one of them from the Party!Â… I am tired of repeating it, but as long as the conspirators remain in office and on the web, the conspiracies will not end! By constantly hatching new plots against the Tea Party, they will eventually succeed in destroying it!  Even today these aristocratic conspirators are working to overthrow the Revolution. They do this by hiring reactionaries from the old regime, by enlisting the services of bloggers and by corrupting the poor through bribing armies of informers, RINOs, and pundits online.

Vee have tolerated this for too long!  Christie, Brown, and that dastardly Fox News shall not save you.  Vive le peuple!  Vous shall not defeat la révolution!

My problem with Castle v. O' Donnell is that there have been several bloggers, republican establishment figures and commenters telling me I didn't have a choice. Either back Castle or you're a loser.

I didn't back either one of them until now but if I were living in Deleware I would have done the exact opposite of what the people telling me I didn't have a choice wanted me to do.

In the future said bloggers/establishment figures better find a better reason for me to back their candidate other than "you don't have a choice".

Unity? I don't know. Complete obliviousness I think you could count on. If Castle had won no one would give a shit anymore so why post on it? We would have no stories about his campaign expenses and what he said 10 years ago because nobody would care. They would move onto Murky and her write in campaign.

O'Donnell is news, fine, nobody expects no coverage of this stuff but just taking it and running with it the way it's been handed off by Bill Maher like a baton in a relay race is a little much. Maybe some of it is lingering animosity, maybe some of it is just plain laziness. I don't know. But I do know these are blogs which claim to be right wing. Is it too much to ask that these stories at least give our candidates the benefit of the doubt? The entire explanatory portion of Drew's post amounts to "It's old" He then goes on to give the impression OD may have canceled her appearance on the Sunday shows because of this when the story about it makes clear that isn't true. He finishes with a rehash of the canard by Ace that we should vet or candidates better when nobody gave OD a snow ball's chance in hell of beating Castle. Why would anyone have vetted her? She was nobody's first choice. She was many people's only real choice, to them anyway. The DE GOP basically stacked the deck with  Castle and now we are moaning that we should check the player's better when OD was the only person dumb enough to play with a stacked deck and still managed to win? Please.

So it isn't any surprise that Boston sucks, and that the "working class" areas are especially noxious.  Like any slum, it is as much a state of mind as it is a zip code, and the smartest thing that anyone there can do is leave.

Look, there were 2 candidates. Castle was really not a republican but he caucused with republicans. O'Donnell is not ideal and was supported by the bitter clingers that all the elite hate. The people spoke. However, instead of falling into line, these knuckleheads that love "strategy" threw themselves down on the floor and started screaming and running her down. In response, the people who didn't want the dem, said "STFU, you're hurting the nominee". The screamers screamed louder. Eventually their fit subsided because they couldn't get what they wanted without looking like total douchebags and pissing off the bitter clingers that they need to win anything. They are now running down the bitter clingers for noticing.

I could give a rat's ass but I do think that those of you who have problems with the bitter clingers and their lack of elite strategy should give it a rest. Here's the deal, you have to have the bitter clingers to win, that's why McCain didn't. The bitter clingers had better learn a little about strategy too. In the end the bitter clingers are more important than the independents.

People that are not politically saavy don't grasp that chairmanships, speaker chairs, etc matter. They do but not at the expense of the whole movement.

109 Why some blogs are waging this war I don't know....Posted by: Blue Hen at September 19, 2010 03:36 PM

It's a "war" because the Big-Time Bloggers are playing war games on their computers, not worrying about reality.

It's simple: hard-core professional bloggers speak only to each other. Jonah Goldberg writes to other bloggers on NRO, and they get into these involved little inside-baseball "discussions;" "Poppin' Fresh" writes to and for other bloggers he likes, Reihl, Patterico and the rest do likewise. I don't think a single worthless one of them would recognize the real world if it walked up and kicked 'em in the nougats. They're a bunch of inbred, myopic whiners, much like the pasty-faced little creeps who were always picked on in third grade.

To them, it's all about nuance and process. They feel like Cool Kids if they can analyze a given issue or candidate 'til it rolls over and dies from sheer boredom.

Unfortunately, one of the things that gets lost along the way is a discussion of honest questions about candidates and ideas. Anyone who dares question the current favorite is instantly some kind of deformed cretin. We end up with mindless rah-rah support and slavering hatred. No middle ground.

For the most part, this is the best place to discuss politics I know of. Except when ace is deep into Tepid Air linkage, that is.
