— Ace Keep beating that chicken.
"Plainclothes beat Zahra Rahnavard by baton when she tried to attend the revolution Day rally in Tehran," Mousavi's website Kalemeh reported. "She was rescued by Mousavi's supporters."
More protests as Iran's theocracy celebrates its 30th blood-drenched birthday:

They went from one extreme to the other, and they could just go back to the other extreme.
Even if they throw off this pack of nuts, will they ever really realize modern political freedom?
I hope so, but it's hard to say. When they do eventually have their civil war, will nukes be used? I think so. This government is based on hatred and martyrdom.
We need to bomb them. I don't see what Obama has to lose. bomb Natanz and their silkworm bearing vessels and whatever refineries they have left. Bomb their pipelines to China and Russia.
Call their bluff. They can sell China all the oil they want if they just stop building nukes.

Look for AGreece to be doing the same thing within 3 months. Then a few other European countries.

The world will be imploding soon. We may not make it to the 2012 elections so all that hatin on SP will be for nothing.

The Straits of Hormuz is the gateway for 40% of the world's oil. Japan gets 70% of their oil from the area. If we were to attack Iran, oil would shoot directly towards $500 per barrel and good number of countries would drop back into recession. You may find that an acceptable temporary result but you can't in any honesty believe that there wouldn't be any costs.

As we know, the only time he thinks it's ok to mess in another countries affairs, is when it is Israel. He will probably lead the charge for sanctions against Israel. He will remind us all of how well his dialog with Iran was working and Israel just messed it all up. He will blame the Joooooooooos!

Not necessarily.
WaPo Opinion piece Aug. 2008
"So Ahmadinejad has launched an energy-independence program designed to shift Iran's transportation system from gasoline to natural gas, which Iran has plenty of. "If we can change our automobiles' fuel from gasoline to [natural] gas during the next three-four years," he said last July, "we won't need gasoline anymore." His plan includes a mandate for domestic automakers to make "dual-fuel" cars that can run on both gasoline and natural gas, a crash program to convert used vehicles to run on natural gas and a program to convert Iranian gas stations to serve both kinds of fuel. According to the International Association of Natural Gas Vehicles, more than 100 conversion centers have been built throughout the country: Iranians can drive in with their gasoline-only cars, pay a subsidized fee equivalent to $50 and collect their newly dual-fuelled cars several hours later. Ahmadinejad's plan, which has been largely ignored by the West, means that within five years or so, Iran could be virtually immune to international sanctions."
Posted by: Iskandar at February 11, 2010 12:18 PM (/o58C)
Last I heard, this refinery ain't producing much, and they import most of their gasoline. This won't work unless there's a blockade to go along. And that is an act of war, so that ain't happening anytime soon.

This raises a question: What should be some US foreign policy goals in the near future? Forget "Mideast peace", won't happen in our lifetimes.
I can think of four:
1. Regime Change in Iran. Aiding and abetting, covertly and overtly, any internal opposition. (But is there an Iranian "Solidarity"?)
2. Toppling the thugocracy in North Korea and reunification of that nation, a la Germany (but would Red China thwart our every move?)
3. Toppling the bandito Chavez in Venezuela, and generally checking the Left in Latin America (Neo-Contras? Pirate broadcasts beamed from Trinidad and the Antilles?)
4. Toppling the goon regime in Cuba at last. (Waiting for the Castros to kick? Or hastening the process?)

Hey, I kinda think this fear is overstated, but I do think there would be severe costs to stopping Iran.
and those costs would have been far less if we had dealt with this years ago and they will be far more if we deal with this in a few years.
We don't have the option of never dealing with Iran and incurring some of the energy problems, though. That's not really one of the choices.
The liberals actually were ready to imprach Bush if he stopped Iran. They went crazy promising that Iran had no nuke weapons program. The CIA actually put America at risk playing politics. I don't blame bush for this, but it would have been much better if he had dealt with Iran's nuke program.
Obama isn't going to, because it will be bad for the economy and his election chances. So I'm wrong to say there's no downside to not passing this off. But in the long run, those costs are with us no matter what. We CAN control that body of water if we want to, btw. And oil won't go to $500 a barrel.

Yeah, they have some alternative energy for vehicles. They still badly need fuel. And if they were to attempt to blow up shipping and cut of energy trade they would have a much harder time getting gasoline or other things.
Iran is economically very, very precarious right now. That's why they have this huge show and want us to attack them. And they will keep escalating until they actually nuke someone at some point.
If America were drilling, building nuke plants, etc, we would be better equipped to deal with what is inevitable from Iran. But we aren't and won't be in time.
Let's take our licks and deal with Iran. Obama would benefit, in the long run, from dealing with Iran. his diplomatic efforts would have far greater weight. He's already got his peace prize, so his legacy with hippies is assured.
I'm not talking invasion. I'm talking surgical strike. Hell, go asymmetric and use car bombs and stealth. Deny you even did it.

The Oil & Gas Journal (5/5/08) published an analysis of the Iranian oil industry that begins: “The Iranian oil and gas industry approaches its 100th anniversary bloated, corrupt, and nearly bankrupt, managing four times the employees but two thirds of the oil production it had before the Islamic Revolution of 1978-79.”
snip
Events in Iran since the Revolution are an eery echo of what has happened in Venezuela since the advent of Chavez. Skilled workers and foreign capital and technology have fled. Corruption has become rampant along with incompetence. Production of over 6 mb/d fell to below 3 mb/d after the Revolution and is currently about 3.8 mb/d.
