— Gabriel Malor Molly Norris, the cartoonist who first suggested "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" to counter Muslim death threats, has been called out for death by Imam Anwar al-Awlaki.
In "Inspire," an English language Al Qaeda terrorist mag, Awlaki damns Norris and eight others for "blasphemous caricatures" of the Prophet Muhammed. The other cartoonists, authors and journalists in Awlaki's crosshairs are Swedish, Dutch and British citizens.
The 67-page terror rag is seen by terrorism experts as a bald new attempt to reach and recruit Muslim youth in the West.
"The medicine prescribed by the Messenger of Allah is the execution of those involved," writes Awlaki, 39, a Las Cruces, N.M.-born American citizen.
Norris, herself, attempted to back away from the cartoon idea after it got international attention. She was "freaked" and, apparently, with reason. She gets to spend the rest of her life looking over her shoulder for barbaric thugs.

Norris could use this to her advantage. She should serialize this development in cartoon format. For instance, she could run a series of cartoons depicting what she does to thwart the Islamist Jihad against her lowly self. Or she could put a burka on the teapot that was Mohammed and call it one of Mohammed's many wives.
Or she could caricaturize herself as the avenging angel anti-Jihadist, this has so much potential for her to capitalize on it.

Question; is that Messenger of Allah of whom he speaks, is that the guy who married his six year old cousin? Guided by the words of Allah? The same guy who prescribed death to anyone who wouldn't voluntarily convert to the religion that propounds just about every vile, corrupt, perverted, depraved, wickedness of humanity as a reward in the afterlife and as a charateristic of the 'messenger'?
That guy?
Just curious, because if that guy was alive today, he'd be in prison... pretty much anywhere in the world.

Ever notice how 'death' is pretty much the standard punishment from these "free thinking" types.
You already know that if it is a new day, they are going to have something new to be offended about. And with that offense - the "death" sentence.

Muslims condemn ALL depictions of Mo, not just the negative ones, right? So the mapplethorpe comparison isn't valid.
Don't kids draw sketches of Jesus in pretty much every Bible class in every church on every Sunday....? They used to. Or did they stop, due to the Christian death threats......? Hah.
Posted by: giggles at July 12, 2010 06:23 AM (dOOBu)
37 Hate to say it, but if everybody drew Jesus one day, you would get some wacko Christianist doing the exact same thing.
No; the Muslims don't like it if you draw Jesus either. Or Moses, or even Lot. They're prophets in Islam too.
Muslims take it personally if you insult a specifically Muslim figure; but sometimes they make threats against Jesus caricaturists as well. Generally this is accompanied with a press statement about how, unlike those weak so-called Christians, Muslims are protecting the honour of all the prophets blah blah citation of Q. 3:84.

The media always gives the idolatry reasoning behind the cartoon jihad. In reality, they base their jihad on a hadith which says "He who insults a prophet, kill him." Muslims carried signs to make that clear, but the media performed admirably in hiding that fact, as ususal. There is a general prohibition on art in Islam, applying to any depiction of the human form. That's why Islamic art always looks like a pattern on boxer shorts or a tablecloth.
So to be clear, insulting Muhammed is punishable by death and Islam bans all art which depicts humans. So a cartoon of Muhammed is doubly bad, but it has nothing to do with idolatry.
Posted by: Beagle at July 12, 2010 06:32 AM (sOtz/)
Muslims are okay with Piss Christ because there's a cross involved, btw. Whoever was on that cross (Islamically) wasn't Jesus. (Sura 4, this time). There's a debate in Islam about whether the crucified figure was just a divine illusion or if God swapped Jesus with Judas (as punishment) or with Simon of Cyrene (taking one for the team).
Breaking crosses used to be an Islamic specialty. So, Serrano gets a pass.
If Serrano had done a picture with Jesus getting banged in the ass, then the Muslims would have had his head by now. But Serrano knew what he was doing.

I'm trying to have compassion for Norris, I understand living with a death threat will be very difficult and scary. Especially since somehow over the last ten years Seattle has pretty much exploded with Muslims, mostly because we opened our arms to the "poor Somalis" and let them settle here with absolutely no questions asked. So, it isn't too farfetched to think that someone might try to follow through on this particular fatwa.
But, my compassion for her is tempered by the fact that she refused to stand with her convictions and it didn't do her any good anyway. Now I am sure her fellow liberals (Dan Savage especially) will portray her as some brave soul about all of this and that to my mind isn't fair to all of the truly brave men and women who have stood up to Islam over the years and are continuing to stand up to Islam, no matter the cost to their own lives.

What they want, what they need so badly, is to show the world how powerful they are. They go first against the weakest targets they can find because they are very insecure about their power.
Islam has always appealed to the desperate and vengeful, much as Christianity appeals to the meek and self sacrificing.
She painted a bulls-eye on her head, not when she initially broached the topic, but when she freaked out before anyone else. Whoever bends their knee first will be the one that goes down.
that's not to say she deserves this. She's but a normal person who got scared of the psychos and was unable to hold the line on our human rights. She's no hero and I don't like her, but she doesn't deserve to pay these butchers.
The correct response is to go into hiding, I guess. She probably will face actual attempts on her life. Let's hope she makes public comments that condemn what's being done to her and show bravery.

Mr (John O.) Brennan also said: "The president's strategy is absolutely clear about the threat we face. Our enemy is not terrorism because terrorism is but a tactic. Our enemy is not terror because terror is a state of mind and, as Americans, we refuse to live in fear. Nor do we describe our enemy as jihadists or Islamists because jihad is holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam meaning to purify oneself of one's community."
