Awww: Team Obama Thinks Being President Is Hard
— DrewM

Remember the whole "Office of The President Elect" thing? I joked that that was the office Obama really wanted, lots of meetings, the chance to give lots of fun speeches to adoring crowds, plenty of time for waffles but no real responsibilities.

Turns out, I was right.

Almost a year and half on the job and Team Obama is pretty bummed that being President means having to deal with actual problems. And the worst part? You don't get to pick what happens or when.

“All you can do is smile at the absurdity of these things piling up,” said someone who spends much of the day with Obama. Interviews with top White House advisers revealed little smiling in the past 10 days — but a sense that, in the aftermath of it all, they avoided two potential P.R. disasters and emerged with a clear sense of the argument Obama wants to take to voters over the next four months.

The advisers provided a behind-the-scene look at how Obama handled the dramas — and explained how all of this will fit into coming campaign. There is a tendency in Washington, and certainly in journalism, to draw big meaning from big events — and many are already claiming Obama has vindicated the power of his presidency with his latest acts.

But privately, Obama advisers talk of being prisoners to uncontrollable events and deeply uncertain about how all of this will play out. Yes, he showed decisiveness in firing McChrystal. But the White House is as uncertain as ever about whether the war can be won. Yes, he stared down BP and made sure they will pay at least $20 billion to clean up its mess. But the oil still gushes, with no end in sight for what one aide calls a “rolling disaster.” Yes, he will likely soon sign the most sweeping regulation of Wall Street since the Great Depression. But it won’t create jobs or end financial mischief.

...“If you take a wide-lens view of the domestic and international accomplishments, he has brought America back,” Emanuel said. “We have righted the ship on the crises we inherited, and laid a new foundation for long-term economic competitiveness.”

Yet, the landscape remains befuddling: an angry country, a stubborn economy, and a pair of wars where victory canÂ’t be defined, perhaps much less achieved.

As Obama might say, it's unprecedented that a President actually has to deal with crisis not of his own choosing. Except it is so obviously...not.

This article really plays up a couple of absolutely annoying things about Obama and the people he surrounds himself with.

They really think they are special, that everything that happens to them is newer, bigger and more important than anything that has ever come before. A quick glance at a history book will not only show that every other President has had to deal with unexpected problems beyond their control but many have had to deal with far more dangerous and intractable problems.

The tone of this article also demonstrates the 'poor us' mentality of Obama and his team. What's with all the problems and decisions? More than a third of the guy's term is over and he still whining on a near daily basis about the nature of the job. Of course, that's when he takes a break from whining about the 'unprecedented' nature of all the problems he inherited.

You'd think the smartest group of politicians ever to grace American, nay the world, would have considered the words of former British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. When asked what the greatest challenge statesmen face he replied, "Events, my dear boy, events".

As always, Obama seems to think it would have or should have been different for Him.

7 The Obamatrons and other Democrats really feel they're smarter than everyone else, and that Bush and his team really were stupid.  Problems of the economy, war, foreign relations and social justice were supposed to be much easier to manage once the "smart" team came into office.

Oops.  Guess not.  These guys are so smart they're making every problem worse, despite their paid PR staff in the Democrat Controlled Media.

In the last week or two, Roger L. Simon had a brief post up about how Obama may have a nervous breakdown or resign since Presidentin' is hard.  IIRC, the gist of the post was that Simon had not previously thought that was the case but was beginning to come around to that point of view.

Apparenetly they are so myopic that they think that the only thing that matters is "showing decisiveness."   The REASON McCrystal had to be fired is that a high-ranking military officer and his staff revealed how much they old the civilians of the administration in contempt.  Not exactly a PR win for Obama.

And as far as the BP escrow fund, the people of the Gulf would much rather some attention be placed on keeping the beaches protected,   but of course he is NOT doing that.   If it doesn't involve lawyers and/or endless speeches and meetings,  he is totally uninterested.   That escrow fund doesn't save one pelican or dolphin.

81 The problem with Obama is twofold:
(1) Obama's not smart enough.
(2) Nobody's smart enough.

(1) The "intellectual" circles in which Obama operates are now so diluted with stupid ideas and political orthodoxy that all one needs to be praised for one's intellect is to have a pretentious way of speaking and all of the bien-pensant of the times.  That is, "good thoughts".  This is now so de rigueur in the non-scientific (and sometimes in science as well) academy that they don't see it.

(2) Socialism operates on a number of assumptions.  First, socialism is a means, not an end, but it always assumes that the overlords have the same goals that you do.  You soon find out that they don't and that even if the goals are nominally the same, the overlords want to take their cut.

Socialism also assumes that the world can be ordered and the reason it hasn't is simply that a sufficiently intellectual person has not been placed in control.  Nobody's that smart.  Nobody has that much information.  What makes it worse is when you get people who think they are that smart but are dumber than average.  You get the insanity of trying the same thing over and over again and never getting a different result.

We are watching a whole class of children growing up before our eyes.

82 Haven't heard a word from my lib sister recently.

On the upside, a few of my husband's loony lib family members have actually come to realize that Sir Golfsalot is an empty suit.  And their feelings are hurt and stuff.

I still hate them for voting for the douchebag and putting the rest of us through hell.

83 They really think they are special, that everything that happens to them is newer, bigger and more important than anything that has ever come before. A quick glance at a history book will not only show that every other President has had to deal with unexpected problems beyond their control but many have had to deal with far more dangerous and intractable problems.

I guess those African study and Alinsky classes didn't go over much actual AMERICAN history.

87 If you've seen videos of Barry golfing you'll see that golfing is difficult for him too. Come to think of it so is throwing a baseball and saying something if isn't on the teleprompter.

89 Wow, they got a bunker mentality even when most of the press is for them.  Does not say good things when Blago's rent-a-Senator trial gets real fun.  Or those Mexican-Hezbollah gangs start blowing up parts of Arizona.  Then I expect the Obama Admin to clutch at their blanket, suck their thumbs, and for Samantha Powers to invoke the dread awesomeness of Hillaryzilla.

90 Fuck team Obama.

Not only have they bankrupted America, but their holding her out for anyone to kick as they walk by.

"Hey Iran, check this shit out!  I bet you've always wanted us to fuck Israel in ass!  We got yo back, sun!"

Hey Russia!  Screw Poland!  You can invade them first after you've strengthened what that numb scull Bush called the "axis of evil"...  What a putz  ha haa!"

"Oh SNAP!  check out Honduras and their attempt to enforce their laws.  We gotsta STOP that shit right there."

"Harvard Police are Stupid"

"BP is making us look bad"

"That General can't insult us!  He's fired!"

"Wait, what do you mean WIN a war?"

"We'd have more jobs available if our economy wasn't so stubbornly racist"

Ok   I rambled but I am just so SICK AND TIRED of this PRETEND administration.

Here's another classic bratty Obama moment people quickly forget:  Remember when he revealed to the world we knew about Iran's new, underground uranium enrichment facilities in Qom?  Just for that momentary "gotcha" moment?

A momentary "gotcha" was worth revealing that intel.  Why not just say, "Hey, Iran, we know about your secret program.  Why not start a new one elsewhere, okay?"

92 “We have righted the ship on the crises we inherited, and laid a new foundation for long-term economic competitiveness.”

If I am interpreting the Rahmster's comments correctly, Obama and his minions can no longer blame their troubles on anyone but themselves.  He specifically says that they have the stuff they inherited straightened out.  They now own all future fuck-ups.

Obama got BP to put $20 Billion in a fund which everyone knows will go to politically connected.  The people wanted him to stop the oil gushing out, or at least keep it from harming the coast and wildlife.

Obama fired a general because that general questioned him publically.  The people wanted him to fire him for losing the war.

Obama is pushing a wall street reform bill which everyone knows will stifle innovation and entrench the established blue bloods.  The people wanted him to punish the offenders and get the market moving again.

Obama pushed a trillion dollar stimulous bill which everyone knows went to democrat base bakers.  The people wanted him to get the economy moving again.

Everything Obama has done has been in response to his inner, expanionist, liberal, progressive, governmental controll desiring compass.  No one likes what he's doing.  God willing we'll be able to reverse the damage as he wrecks the America we know and love with Europe-lite.

God, these people are straight up delusional.

They really think they are special, that everything that happens to them is newer, bigger and more important than anything that has ever come before.

Sadly, most people believe history starts the day they where born. Thus why every generation believes that it invented sex, marriage and babies.

97 I think Rahmbo's wide-lens has some serious rose-coloring. Not one of the supposed 'victories,' from the economy to the world loving us now, has any serious basis in fact. The economic numbers are still sucking, with potential for even more recession, and the G20 telling him to sit in the corner and shut up about more spending is hardly an international accomplishment. And the serious FAIL in the Gulf regarding skimmers is bordering on criminal. He cant plug the damn hole, but he could have reduced if not eliminated the oil from getting to the shore by calling every skimmer in our inventory, as well as the Dutch, Saudi, et al.

98 I don't believe he ever considered it being a difficult job when he ran.  I believe it was sold to him--by the people who backed him with their money--as a four year party.  This is why he gets so pissy when he is asked to do actual work.  I also suspect one reason he's spending more and more time on the golf course lately is to detach himself from reality as much as possible.  He is not only a sociopath, he is sliding toward flat-out insane.

Yes, he will likely soon sign the most sweeping regulation of Wall Street since the Great Depression. But it wonÂ’t create jobs or end financial mischief.

Then why did JPMs stock get such a juicy bounce the morning after the FinReg was done?  Because its impotent. The banks own congress and Obama.  What a F-ing joke.

The truth is that Obama is a lazy sod.  This is why he spends so much time giving speeches.  Standing there reading a script trying to impersonate MLK is a self-indulgent hobby of his, something he probably does for fun at night after doing bong hits.  It's not work, more like singing in the shower or playing air guitar.  Actually doing something productive and useful is anathema to his being.

"We have righted the ship on the crises we inherited,"

And what is the deal with all the nautical metaphors with this crowd?.  We have charted a course, we have righted the ship, we are steering the currents....
