Baldilocks: Racism And Its Uses (For The Left)
— Ace

Part II of her long examination of racism -- and also "racism" -- in America, and the deliberate creation of ill will between the races to forward leftist ends.

Very hard hitting -- read the whole thing. The essays she links to are important too.

That Leftist politicians and shapers of the mainstream media content are labeling the Tea Party Movement as racist is a fortuitous example (for them) of how to use the indoctrination which they have implemented. Oh, they know that the Tea party movement isn’t actually racist in its foundation, principles or goals. They do, however, know this: in the mind of the black on-looker who sees the Movement’s mostly white makeup and who does not recognize that he/she has been indoctrinated with an incomplete view of American history or that his anger/vengeance is being purposely inflamed, all the Leftist conditioning will spring up at the first flinging of the epithet ‘racist.’

As a result, whites who know that their opposition to the policies of the Obama Administration and the Democrat-controlled Legislative Branch of government is totally based on principle are even further angered. The Left uses this conditioning and the anger of being unjustly accused to paint the Movement as anti-black, shaping it in their own image as the fruit of the Racial Discord tree which they have planted and so diligently have fed and watered.

White and all other Americans—some who are keen observers of the history of Leftism, of Statism and who understand how and why this country was founded; others who merely want to provide for their families and live as free as possible--are easily able to visualize the path on which this country has its footing and are justifiably angry with those in our government who are purposely leading the United States of America toward tyranny. This is not “white” anger; this is American anger.

The tactics educated into both sets of the American populace are designed to do two things: 1) dis-empower both to the point of believing that their fellow citizens are their enemies, and 2) inflame negative and violent emotions to the point at which actual violence will take place. Fear, anger, and--the progenitor of the two—covetousness; the Left’s long-stoked Race War cannot begin without these.

6 I think the perfect capper is that Shirley Sherrod essentially ran a slave plantation that exploited blacks. I think the racism charge has run it's course. Anyone who gets worried about being labeled one is foolish. The American people are just fed up with the whole issue. Besides they voted for Obama so they can't be racist and their white guilt has already been assuaged. Obama may not be post-racial but the public is.

9 Similar tactics used against black conservatives.  You are not a real black unless you lockstep with the dems.  You are a house boy, Oreo cookie, uncle tom..etc.  Another words, if your black, you are never to think for yourself, you are to remain on the Democrat Plantation and do and think as you're told.  I wish more blacks would wake the hell up and see the truth.  They have and are being played like a cheap fiddle.

Baldilocks is the shit.

One of the things the Left is trying to provoke is that one comment.  You know how in a sea of signs, they'll find the one that can be most provocative, or they always air the interview of that one dumb sumbitch?

They are just aching to hear that word.  Just aching.  SO much so that they had to make shit up when the CBC members were making their walk to the Capitol building.

Fact is, they know we can't guard against it.  Some fuckweasel that couldn't beat Basil Marceaux at tic-tac-toe WILL use that word.  They're just waiting for that one example caught on film.  And we can't completely guard against it.

Stacked decks are that way.

The white person who feels unproductive anger at blacks as a group is in just as manipulated as the black person who feels this way toward all whites whether either is justified or not.  Why? Because blanket anger toward group for things which an individual of any group cannot change—such as skin color or race--leads to the Vicious Circle of un-washable guilt and anger that I've already described and it gets the Left what it wants—the goal.

Leftists seek to divide groups and stir up anger and, ultimately, violence--so that a leftist-controlled government can come in and crack down on all freedoms in the name of order and set into overdrive their well-laid plans to fundamentally transform the United States of America into the Socialist Utopia of Karl Marx's vision.

41 I went back and read both Part 1 and Part 2. Excellent essay Balidilocks.

I would add one thing to think about for inclusion in the essay regarding the prevalence of those mandatory diversity lectures and training in the fortune 500 companies.

Most of us who had been around for a long time recognized those lectures and training for what they were. They were there to first to provide evidence of "sincerity" in equal opportunity and second to provide a job for a minority lecturer. Both were there at the recommendations of the legal department to assure that in the even of a Jessie Jackson/NAACP extortion civil suit the legal department would have ample ammunition to fight the suit. Indeed, the second reason also helped meet the hiring quotas (unofficial of course).

It was very hard to get qualified minorities in the field I worked in mainly because most do not take the required courses.

But again, these actions reflect back to government action that has made it so easy to instigate a civil suit in this area. The EEOC will even do it for you so it will not cost you a dime.

And like that unfortunate incidence in CT you can see that in the event you do every work up the documentation and evidence to fire a minority, odds are there will be some post firing action. Fortunately they are usually of a legal nature.

42 An excellent essay. The part about white guilt is dead on. Not that today's whites necessarily feel guilt over past wrongs ... but the feeling they get that anything they say, think, or do will be labeled racist. Racism accusers know that most people don't want to be associated with racism in any form--both because of societal views and because of moral leanings. They expect people to shrink away instead of allowing themselves to be dragged further into the mud. Fortunately, claims of racism are becoming so ludicrous, so numbered and so widespread that itÂ’s losing a little of its sting and not keeping as many people under thumb as the left has planned.

44 Baldilocks has hit the nail on the head; the left are trying to prepare the field to their liking, assuming that they will inevitably win the battle given that it's been shaped as they desired.  On this, the leftists are dad wrong.  Even if society balkanized completely and ended up playing nothing but tribal rivalries between the groups, the chances that the left wins that battle are slim to none.  However, like the other Hussein did in Kuwait, the left plays scorched-earth in their field preparations.  If they don't win the battle, they have pretty much insured that all will die in the process.  If the left can't have America, no one can.

It is very difficult to undo or reverse this process (but vote!, as I've been told to say) once it gains momentum, and given that much of the effort to tribalize America (the natural state for Democracies, as the Europeans have, that our Founders explicitly rejected) has become ingrained in our law and judicial rulings, the field of battle is going to end up being that way.  This wouldn't be a foregone conclusion, except that The Precedent (and, thus, his useful idiot junta) see fomenting racial animus as a goal even divorced from promoting any actual policies, and they have been pushing it so long and hard that we have gone past the point of no return on that (but vote!, vote!, vote!, anyway).

49 In a much more coherent way, what Baldilocks says is a lot like what Glenn Beck says.  The left is trying to incite violence based on a race war.  The odd part, to a lot of white people, is that I think most of us had gotten over any feelings of race a long time ago.  If we did or did not vote for Obama, the reason was not his color.  So essays like Baldilocks are important and necessary, because if the behavior of the left has stirred up any questions, they can be discussed.  For example, when the New Black Panther story came out, I (and everyone I know) realized that they were a fringe group, small and unimportant.  We knew that all Black people did not feel that way.  The shocking part of the story was the Eric Holder, DofJ part.  The shocking part  was that now Justice was based on the color of the skin.

Excellent post Ms. Baldilocks -- fighting this will be an uphill battle; it is so entrenched, and the opposition is relentless.  I don't think it will ever be won -- it's just too easy a ploy to use in the pursuit of power.  People will always have to be vigilant, even if it's beaten back.

It is, to use religious terms, the eternal struggle against good and evil -- no human can ever completely conquer that one, not even in themselves much less society.

However, I think it comes down to another truth: just because final victory may never be achieved does not mean that the fight is/was not worth it (even though it looks completely hopeless).  I think we all owe it to ourselves, our country, our children to at least try (knowing we will fall short and "sin" -- both individually and as a society).

I think Americans, to be geeky and steal a concept from Tolkein, are very capable of fighting "the long defeat"...because they understand the concept of an ideal, and they understand that ultimately no mere human can attain it (but are better for the attempt).  Our founders certainly understood that -- it was their great gift to us.

63 I recall many years ago seeing three lily-white teenage boys wearing pro-football jerseys of black players, Rice, Erwin, and Swan.   I was a student when Tennessee awarded its first football scholarship to a black Lester McClain, and a graduate later in the early seventies when Condredge Holloway became the starting quarterback. Yeah there was a lot of racial slurs and bandied about.  Back then, a white boy wearing a jersey of a black player would have been treated very badly.

Does sports somehow trump racism?  Where is the racial prejudice when a university can sell out an arena when ten black basketball players are the starters.  I do not see black and white - I see Orange and White.

My only fear is that some on the left will push the meme of Tea Partiers being racist too far.   There is a blogger that is trying to start a movement to go to Tea Party events carrying Confederate Flags for the sole purpose of burning them in front of people hoping to start trouble.   If it's not legal in that locale to burn them, they want to just have as many there as possible, so these idgits can video it as proof that the Tea Party is racist at it's core.   For some reason, they seem to think that the Tea Partiers are going to get violent trying to stop them from burning that flag.

It won't work with TPs, but one of these dumbasses is going to go too far one day, I'm afraid.   Those of you going to any events for the TP or Glenn Beck, please be on the lookout.

76 v. havel

The post-totalitarian system touches people at every step, but it does so with its ideological gloves on. This is why life in the system is so thoroughly permeated with hypocrisy and lies: government by bureaucracy is called popular government; the working class is enslaved in the name of the working class; the complete degradation of the individual is presented as his ultimate liberation; depriving people of information is called making it available; the use of power to manipulate is called the public control of power, and the arbitrary abuse of power is called observing the legal code; the repression of culture is called its development; the expansion of imperial influence is presented as support for the oppressed; the lack of free expression becomes the highest form of freedom; farcical elections become the highest form of democracy; banning independent thought becomes the most scientific of world views; military occupation becomes fraternal assistance. Because the regime is captive to its own lies, it must falsify everything. It falsifies the past. It falsifies the present, and it falsifies the future. It falsifies statistics. It pretends not to possess an omnipotent and unprincipled police apparatus. It pretends to respect human rights. It pretends to persecute no one. It pretends to fear nothing. It pretends to pretend nothing.

{10}Individuals need not believe all these mystifications, but they must behave as though they did, or they must at least tolerate them in silence, or get along well with those who work with them. For this reason, however, they must live within a lie. They need not accept the lie. It is enough for them to have accepted their life with it and in it. For by this very fact, individuals confirm the system, fulfill the system, make the system, are the system.

I caught part of last nights episode of Real Housewives of DC. One (white) chick gets hit with the race card by a black housewife, because she stated she does not like Tyra Banks, and later says she doesn't care for Obama.

Merely not liking a person, should they be black, makes one a racist in the popular, current usage of the term.

This is one small example of what has made the term absolutely meaningless.

Sad, huh?

The question I have:  Is the possibility of increased racism (the real kind) that may result from the efforts of the left to play the race card intentional?  Do they actively want more racism?

It's obvious the left wants blacks to vote as a bloc, and to do that they're quite happy to sow racial discord by labelling the right as inherently racist.  I suggest that these efforts will inevitably lead to more, not less racism among whites.  Is such a backlash a desired outcome?

One can only be cowed for so long before resentment leads to anger.  The subject of race keeps getting brought up (I wish it wouldn't), and whites are largely told they can't participate in the discussion unless they take the leftist position.

I'm pretty certain that I'm not the only one who at times is reluctant to so much as engage in coversation with a black person out of concern that even the most innocuous word or action might be misconstrued as racist; it's easier at times just to avoid taking that risk.  Even when one does, the percieved need to walk on eggshells only furthers the notion that they are "the other".

Wounds don't heal by continually opening them up- they only get worse.

83  In my own, short sighted opinion "yes" -- if you look at what happened in the evolution of most totalitarian states, they first start pandering to elements that they consider on the fringe of society.  It's their foothold to gaining power.  However, once they gain power those groups are usually quite persecuted.

A reading of the rise of  both kinds of socialism, fascism, even a history of a certain political party in this country seems to point most definitely to that conclusion.

86 Good on her!

Always thought that "national conversation on race" was insipid bullshit.

It's funny to hear someone outside the herd, watch and wonder at our behavior.

I think that there is an issue needing to be addressed though.

Why are the transparently, race-baiting tactics of the Left so effective?

I would submit that it's something cultural.

Being American entails a certain sensitivity to questions of fairness, right and wrong, wondering what is just.

It's simply what we do, all the time, consciously, subconsciously, explicitly and tacitly.

We are all so vulnerable right there and can so easily be manipulated to false ends.

But I don't think that it's a bad thing, overall.

I think that it is kind of amazing, how persistent and pervasive this germ is.

Other peoples, in other lands, in different times, never suffered this "affliction" of worrying about who may or may not be aggrieved.

I suspect that the vast bulk of human experience on this planet has been rather more Hobbesian than not.

We are space aliens!

To think that these are our sources of controversy!

89  Yeah, well I'm a "white" person who would be posting it (and I am, once the third installment comes out) -- so I run the risk of being called a race panderer (the worst sort of racist, no?), and by implication Baldi would be my pet "Aunt Jemima".  At some point it's probably a risk that needs to be taken, no?  If even one person maybe stops, reads, and considers it (and beyond all wishing, passes it on) then was it worth it?

Or we can continue to walk on eggshells..  Sometimes a wound does need to be opened up in order to clean it out and get it to heal properly -- it will always leave a scar, but allowing it to fester unresolved is worse.

I remember seeing quite a while ago on a Tavis Smiley panel that was important enough to be put on CSPAN, Lani Guinier, and she was speaking to a black audience, forcefully spitting out that Justice Thomas might have black skin but he sure isn't black. The audience approved, the panel, of course, approved, Tavis, approved...

91 American is founded on an ideal (or set of ideals) -- that's the difference (between us and other countries imho), and that's the cause of all the problems.  In a sense, the thing that makes us such a wonderful country is also the thing that we are most neurotic, to the point of self destruction.

Due to human nature, none of us individually (and certainly as a group, a society, a nation) can ever live up to the ideals our country was founded upon, because we're imperfect humans living in an imperfect world.  We'll always have problems living up to those ideals; we'll always have a certain amount of neurosis over the fact that we can't live up to them.  But our founders knew that -- they also knew that it was the only way we could keep the experiment going; that in at least trying to live up to the ideal this country was founded upon we'd be better people for it (and our country a better country than anything the world has ever seen before).  There are a lot of pitfalls following that course (we're seeing them front and center now); it isn't easy and ultimately we will fail to reach the perfect goal (that's why being a true American is one of the hardest things I think a person can do). But it's worth it.

For those of a religious nature, I would say that our founders set us upon the course, as a nation, of personal quest for salvation (with the attendant fall from grace, confession, penance, absolution cycle which will never resolve itself) -- and put it on a secular plane so it was available to everyone (it isn't just bible thumpers that work through the idea of "living right" after all).

It's kind of weird reading his books, I find.

I think that he will be an important philosopher someday (if there is a someday where we value philosophers again. Up to question at this juncture. IMHO).

They are pretty easy on the eyes and you just kind of swallow up a whole lot of important premises, conclusions and facts without even noticing them!

Freaks me out a bit, how persuasive I find him.

118 I'm so tired of talking about racism. The word is meaningless to me. My daughter just finished doing a newspaper story interviewing people in the company in Connecticut where some guy went berserk and killed eight people. He was emotionally disturbed and happened to be black, so the companies CEO had to issue a statement that his employees were not racist. Innocent people went to work and got killed for no rationale reason, and the people in the company have to go into PC mode. Why can't people just let them grieve the loss of co-workers? Ridiculous. Btw, I'm white, my daughter is black and a graduate from Howard University. Every once in a blue moon we talk about race, and I tease her about her being my reparation. But for the most part we talk about important stuff. Baseball and the Patriots, and making beer.

111 Really?  "a republic madam...if you can keep it"

I think the founders realized that human nature and the American experiment would always be at loggerheads from time to time -- because people might like the concept, but were too easily tempted to fall into the alternatives (because they are human and fallible).

The system they set up requires a lot of personal responsiblity, from everyone, all the time -- with responsiblity comes a lot of soul searching, a lot of being ever vigilant, on an individual level even.  That sort of thing can cause a great deal of tension within a person -- and a great deal of guilt if you fail to live up to it (that is, if you value the thing and really love it).  I think they set the system up, knowing that we would often fall far short (which leads to the more practical aspects of the Constitution as a safeguard for those times), and with the knowledge that if we still aspired to what was written there, that we would from time to time come back to it, like prodigal children, to move forward.

That's a tough row to hoe -- so maybe we should learn to excuse ourselves when we become entangled in these kerfluffles -- we were supposed to...so we could find the way through it.

Are the Dems and the media trying to create a race war of sorts? I hate to say that, and I am not saying they are ,but from the "march through the protestors" with the "so called spitting and racial name calling", to generally calling tea partiers racist here and there with Tingles doing a documentary on it, to the possible setup attempt on Breitbart-Beck-Fox News with the Sherrod tape that blew up in their face because the White House acted so quickly, I wonder.

Is it possible the dems want and were responsible for the Rangel and Watters trials? Anybody find that thing suspicious? Two African American Icons on trial at the exact same time right before an election in which blacks are not motivated? Hmmmm.

Maybe I am too conspiratorial, but do you think it is possible they sent Michelle, their most popular figure to a posh Hotel in Spain to goad and race bait conservatives to critique her? Or what about the very odd touching argument involving the very very white lady and Whoopee. I think both are very very democratic and it could have all been a charade, just like the crashing of the White House party could have been a distraction for the media at the appex of the Health care debate. Just saying....

And I won't even mention how odd one very recent major event has been, because it would be too controversial. Lets just say that people need to keep their eyes open about this possibilty, be careful not to take the bait. And for goodness sakes, bring your video cams to all tea parties. AS to Shirley Sherrod: She stated that she received the call for her resignation at 11:00 AM while driving back to work from a NAACP meeting where she gave a speech.

Now I ask you. What is a government employee doing giving speeches at a NAACP meeting on the tax payers dime. Was she being paid or did she apply for time off without salary.  Was she driving a government car. Did she charge the fuel and lodging on her government credit card. Her food? How many times has she done this in the past?

Why aren't Tea Party members afforded the same privileges?

She has violated federal regulations regarding personal use of the governments time, property and money. She should be fired and not made into some type of misjudged employee.

If a government employee can attend an organization dedicated to the advancement of Black people then would it be fair to allow government employees to attend organizations dedicated to the advancement of White people, or browns, or yellows, or reds? All on the taxpayers dime and using government vehicles to travel to and from these meetings.

After all, isn't it equality we are seeking? Nothing equal here.
