— Gabriel Malor Updated and Bump: Okay, I sent invites to everyone who emailed me. I'm about to get on the road, so if you email me now be patient; I'll check again tonight to see that everyone gets the right info.
Oh, by the way, Los Angeles people, the San Fran crowd is WAY easier to get together. What's up with that?
Original Post:
Alright, I'm going to be in San Francisco on Monday evening and several people expressed an interest in getting something together.
I was thinking Jupiter or Beckett's in Berkeley. I realize it's a weeknight, so what I need from you if you're interested is an email saying:
(1) that you're interested, duhurr; and
(2) what time is best for you (from when until when).
My email address is gabriel dot malor at gmail.
After I hear from folks, I'll send an email with the time and how to find us. Email addys will be kept strictly confidential, at least until I sell them to David Axelrod.

I was thinking more along the lines of Mitchell Brothers in San Francisco. And pack light, they have a bowl of rubbers at the front door.
And F Berkeley. Try Slanted Door in San Fran. You homos can share plates.

Would that I could. My wife and I have toyed with the idea of going to Seattle for a couple years now as an anniversary trip, but the combination of cost (compared with Amtrak anywhere up and down the east coast) and my wife's pathological fear of flying, I'm not sure when that'd ever happen.

Why Berkeley? I'm on the peninsula south of SF, but would come into the city for a moron meetup.

That is true for the entire city of San Franciso. There should be point levels. Like 10 points for a hobo just sitting there, 20 points for a moving hobo pushing a cart, and 50 points for a hobo while he is taking a dump on the sidewalk.

You shoulda been there. Math, as far as the eye can see.

Some of you morons are asking why Berkeley, why the east bay, why not San Franciso, etc. etc. etc.
Two reasons.
1. Gabe is staying in Oakland*. So meeting in the East Bay is easier.
2. Why Jupiter or Beckets? Because he e-mailed me asking for a list of places to meet up at. I was on a break from work, so I had about one minute to come up with some ideas.
You all can probably come up with a hundred better places than what I did. But I came up with the best I could under the circumstances.
Look at it this way. An average plan executed expeditiously and violently is better than the perfect plan executed hesitantly and weakly.
Be violent and bold my fellow morons. Flap those flippers and claim yon tapioca pudding cup as your prize.
*Or as we natives like to call it, "Oaktown, mothafucka!!!" *Blam! Blam!*

Posted by: TravisMetzger at January 16, 2010 09:18 PM (zAjAN)
And, TravisMetzger, we got that -- most of the elsewhere posts have been "more in sorrow than in anger" about the whole "pretend it's cool" East Bay scene, when any average Silicon Valley bar has drunks scrawling concepts on wet coasters that produce more ROI than any thousand patchouli-scented hemp-wearing deadhead East-Bay stoners will ever produce -- even with several cycles on the karmic wheel and their eventual recycling as compost....
I hope you guys have tons o' fun. Lucky bastards.

This might be seen as mere hyperbole, but is actually reasonably accurate.
In 1989, when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit, a bunch of the radio stations were knocked off the air. When they came back, they reported that the majority of the population in SF had "taken shelter" in local watering holes.

Imagine how much more ROI they'd get in a state that didn't constitutionally hate capitalism. But seriously, the Bay Area's a blast to visit. You can get some amazing food and beer at a lot of places, and plenty of free-range hobos. Gabe'll have a great time.

It is very challenging to get to West LA from the eastern side of the county (on a weekday) and we don't have the same public transportation system they have. I also think that flex hours are more common in the Bay Area, particularly with all of the IT companies, so people can set their own schedules and deal with the traffic better.
If there was a meet up in Pasadena, you'd probably get some new folks.

Ragnar the Viking needs to suit up and get his butt out on the field. The Vikings defense is starting to make the Cowboys look like a professional football team.

San Francisco is a smaller geographical area than LA.
San Francisco Bay Area has better public transit. It is easy for someone to get from, say, Dublin or Fremont California to downtown SF by simply hopping on BART or someone from San Jose, Mountain View, Palo Alto, etc, by hopping on CalTrain.
