BCS Championship Thread
— Ace

I feel like such a wussy. Didn't even know it was on.

Hey, look: I just only watch the NFL, sports-wise, and I think I'm done with them, too.

Not Really Related... Mike Ditka, wearing no pants, reams a guy out.

Thanks to Dave at Garfield Ridge.

Posted by: Guy Fleegman (rdb) at January 07, 2010 04:44 PM (gvR0H)

16 Pretty smart to set off all those fireworks before the game so they can play the first quarter in smoke.  Also pretty smart to fake punt from your own 20.

It can be a tenuous connection. I've been a vikings fan since I picked up a football card of Tommy Mason (in purple pants) with Paul Flatley in the background. I decided to be an Alabama fan because I was born in the Fort (then Camp) Rucker infirmary.

139 Since I was born, raised, and still live in Philly, I have no interest in college football. The annual Penn-Harvard scrum just doesn't do it for me. Penn State is probably the default team around here, followed by Notre Dame (lots of Catholics, Irish and otherwise).  I always spent my New Year's Day wearing bad makeup and a dress, staggering up Broad St. in the Mummers parade, so I never, ever watched a bowl game. We have the Eagles to give us our annual dose of agita.

But damn, that picture nearly made me change the channel.

304 I'm thinking the receivers aren't trying as hard because they (1) don't trust him & (2) are spoiled by having Colt McCoy. Jordan Shipley is used to getting the ball on nearly every play, & Colt's great at getting it to him.

TX needs to play regardless of how they feel. Colt isn't going to be there forever, they need to get used to it. When the kid throws, try to catch it. Give him a chance.

Tainted championship game, unquestionably.  But hell will rain down tomorrow on Mack Brown.  Colt was obviously hurt before this game.  No way the hit he took on the first series could have knocked anyone out.

Mack knew Colt was damaged, didn't tell anyone.  Didn't give the Fresh back-up the snaps he needed during the last three weeks.  You'll start hearing it tomorrow.

In the NFL, if you don't have a decent back-up QB, you deserve to lose.  And big schools like Texas should do the same.  Not like they can't recruit well enough.  Sorry, but the Colts lost because they relied on one player too much.  It is a team sport after all.  But I really don't care about this particular game, no one in my family played for either school, and we have 13 former college players, 9 different schools.  Makes family get-togethers interesting.  LOL

I suggest you  enjoy watching the other players do their job.  They deserve the attention.  Without a front line to protect him, a QB would spend a whole lot more time on the injured list.  And if a running back didn't have someone to block for him he would still be at the line of scrimmage.  JMO.  And now I'm done here for the night.  Enjoy the game.

Easy on the Texicans. My dad is from there and my younger brother, many cousins, aunts and uncles are from there. If you felt that way, they probably held a similar opinion about you. My experience is that they are friendly, giving, big-hearted folks. Only place I've ever been to that has roads with shoulders as wide as the driving lane and when you drive up behind one of them, instead of having to pass in the on-coming lane, they will drive on the shoulder to let you pass and give a friendly wave as you drive by. "Drive Friendly" say their road signs.

459 Drat, I'm getting so involved in this game that I'm getting confused.

Alabama should also win on skill, not because they got the game handed to them. Let them have a clean win, since it most likely will be a win.

that's the sucky part about this championship win, every time Bama says "hey we're the defending champs", someone will say back "thanks to a 1st quarter injury", is it fair? I think it is, but even if you don't think it is, every time this championship is brought up that will be the reply just as Pat fans talking about their dynasty will have to deal w/ "hey they cheated to win those thanks to spygate though"

Colt said after the game that he felt fine, except that he couldnt feel his arm.

At halftime, reports said that Colt's people had decided to pull him out of the game. The specific reason cited for this was his money making ability in the NFL draft. That was a cited reason, by Colt's people.

So, you tell me: is it about a mysterious injury, or is it about the money?

in a perfect world, yes

I get it that people claim Boise would get crushed by an SEC team but then why so scared to put them in the title game? they're undefeated almost every year and are 2-0 in BCS bowls, what gives? if they have the balls the BCS will put them in a title game next time or keep looking like pussies

672 I get it that people claim Boise would get crushed by an SEC team but then why so scared to put them in the title game?

They lack the strength of schedule factor to get in the big show.  The SEC has the advantage in that any SEC team that wins out will almost certainly be in the Championship while conversely, SEC teams are almost guaranteed to have a loss.

Boise played one ranked team this year, #16 Oregon.  People say its because they are being ducked but I have no idea if that true or not.  If you have a tough conference why go hard on your non-conference games but I always thought that money drives scheduling.  They're best hope is if the WAC toughens up as a whole.

675 And the SEC goes 6-4 in bowl this year which is good for us.  Often we're under .500 but then, even our bottom-feeders make it to bowls so losses aren't that surprising.

Not "ashamed", but I do NOT take it as an unquestionable win.  It was a "win" for TX, but it left me "disappointed".  Not settled.  Who's best?  Even tho TX has won that match up, 4 of the 5 last yrs, that TX victory was "tainted".

I don't feel "ashamed" unless I'm a "fan" of a team that has won under less than ideal conditions, AND then brag about how great we were - we won.

dude check my last comments I said that my Gators deserved the ass whipping we got, again another epic fail from a loudmouth fan who can't bother to read my last comments, but at least you beat us w/ our starting QB, you didn't do that w/ Texas, you got lucky and now we'll never know if you would have beat Texas w/ McCoy

684 BCS flattered SEC this year by giving them the cupcake undefeateds -- in real matchups they didn't do so hot.

I have no idea what this sentence is saying.

685 As a Florida alum at kickoff I wanted Alabama to crush Texas.

Unfortunately for Alabama when McCoy went out of the game it was Alabama that was getting owned.

By the time the refs got involved I was leaning towards Texas.

Until I was reminded that, unlike all other NCAA football games, the Big-12 championship game is 60:01 minutes long.

The whole thing is now one big ugly asterisk.

Sure YRM, when most of your posts reek of bitterness. The only "taint" around here is the rancid smell of Gator meat.

Dude, he was injured on the fifth play from scrimmage, your projecting backwards in time.

688 Greg McElroy never had to leave the game. The Alabama junior never had to leave his team in the hands of an untested backup. But it turns out that Texas' Colt McCoy wasn't the only injured quarterback at the Rose Bowl on Thursday night. "I cracked my ribs in the third quarter against Florida," McElroy said outside the locker room. "Two of them -- the ninth and the 10th. Left side. It's bad. I got it numbed up before the game and it was killing me at halftime Looks like both teams had injured QB's. One team had a running game to turn to, the other didn't.

689 Just back from the game- heartbreaking but fans on both sides were great. Texas fans in particular stayed till the bitter end and sung their team off the field with great pride. Plus I met KARL ROVE!!!!
