— Slublog The video is not embeddable as far as I can tell, but at the end of this clip when Biden hugs Obama, the Vice President offers up his own pithy commentary on the importance of the day.
Somehow, I suspect this will get a lot less attention than George W. Bush's caught on mike moment when he gave his opinion of NYT reporter Adam Clymer.
Update - Thanks to DrewM, here's the embedded video:
I know I should be outrageously outraged by this, but itÂ’s not as though the event was all that dignified to begin with. It had all the solemnity of a junior high school pep rally.

Not ironically and not romantically, I just think it's great that there's someone so honest in public life. Jack might correct me but I get the sense Biden is Biden. There's no pretense, no public/private disconnect.
Who would intentionally create this public persona?
He has no business being VP, he should have topped out as a political science or law professor (and his class would have been fun. I bet you could disagree with him and still get an A and go for a drink afterward).
For good or ill, what you see is what you get.

14 Which is worse? The house party, or the ensuing defenses and accolades that are just now starting among the sheeple who support the scumbags who did this to us?
I thought I hated the former worse -- but can reason that they are what they are, and I didn't expect much more than this from them. I find myself more irritated with the average American who is celebrating and defending all of this -- for they show themselves to truly be deaf, blind, and stupid sheep who would gladly become serfs with just the promise of being taken care of deferred down the road. It's very depressing to see fellow Americans reduced to being jackals -- I would like to think better of my countrymen.
And yes, Biden is a colossal dunce and dunderhead shit stain -- but at least I can laugh at him; something I find I can't do with the others -- so compared to the rest, his stupidity is almost like fresh air.

And this is why, in the system of government the founders created, there are many thinks the federal government cannot do, no matter who holds office. Most notably, the government taking over health care a la Obamacare.
The problem is that our system requires either self restraint on the part of elected officials to follow the Constitution, or a well educated populace willing to remove miscreants for violating Constitutional restraints.
We certainly don't have the former, and the latter I guess we shall see...

Two Systems for healthcare, two types of cost incentives:

1. Bankrupt health insurers so that there is only one option, government single-payer.
2. Use the single payer to damage private healthcare so badly that there is only one option, government-run healthcare.
3. Use the excuse "Because the government pays for all of your healthcare", it can control all aspects of your life because everything that you do can impact healthcare costs. They will control what you eat, how you play, where you travel, where you live, where you work, how many children you have etc. In other words, total government control of your life. (oh yeah, warning, that's a link to "thinkprogress")
"Yesterday as the House passed historic health care reform legislation, groups of Tea Party activists were still amassed on Capitol Hill protesting the bill. When word reached them that they had lost their battle, ... Reps. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) and Steve King (R-IA) then went out and spoke to the protesters, with King floating the possibility of secession (even though he said they should “hope” it doesn’t come to that):
'KING: I just came down here so I could say to you, God bless you. Â… You are the awesome American people. [...]
If I could start a country with a bunch of people, theyÂ’d be the folks who were standing with us the last few days. LetÂ’s hope we donÂ’t have to do that! LetÂ’s beat that other side to a pulp! LetÂ’s take them out. LetÂ’s chase them down. ThereÂ’s going to be a reckoning!'"
So they invent an accusation that's a total non-sequitur, then they bleat on it and add the crazy.

Durham, N.C. — Uninsured Triangle residents said Monday that they eagerly await the overhaul of the nation's health care system.
"It's just going to be like Christmas," said DeCarlo Flythe, who lost health coverage for his family when he was laid off almost three years ago. "It's going to be great. You know, no worries (about) the bills. We are going to go ahead and pay our co-pay and be alright."

Pharmacist's Assistant: The nearest in our network is about two hours drive away.
Me:...so when do you expect to get in my prescription?
Pharmacist's Assistant: When do we...?
Pharmacist: Right now, I'd say the end of April.

Not ironically and not romantically, I just think it's great that there's someone so honest in public life. Jack might correct me but I get the sense Biden is Biden. There's no pretense, no public/private disconnect.
Really? Just fucking really??
Biden quote:
It’s easy to forget “just how horrible things were back in January,” Biden said, according to a pool report. “This was an economy built on a bubble. The rules were being made by the cowboys on Wall Street.”
Biden family business:
A son and a brother of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) are accused in two lawsuits of defrauding a former business partner and an investor of millions of dollars in a hedge fund deal that went sour, court records show.
The legal actions have been playing out in New York State Supreme Court since 2007, and they focus on Hunter and James BidenÂ’s involvement in Paradigm Companies LLC, a hedge fund group. Hunter Biden, a Washington lobbyist, briefly served as president of the firm

#160 Kratos, I can not remember who predicted it (I still think it was P.J O'Rourke) but someone once said "democracy works till 51% of the populas realize they can have everything they want and have the other 49% pay for it." I am afraid we have hit that point.
Right, I agree with you. However, socialism only works until it runs out of other people's money (Maggie Thatcher, I think). When the US goes, so does all the other welfare states. But the finanical chaos won't be the worst thing, methinks. The worst thing is what'll happen when our enemies think we're weak enough to strike with impunity. Iran comes to mind, but also places like China, where somebody just published a paper about how to take out America's power supply.

I'm not as pessimistic that people won't notice before the election, though. Most annual enrollment periods begin starting in September. Very few deep into November. Generally, rate increases are communicated well before annual enrollment. People will know what the price tag is before they start paying for it the following January.

I read alot, watch the news etc. and while I knew this bill as a whole stunk to high heaven I did not know many of the details, as did none of us. They will come out in drips and drabs. If you knew this detail, kudos to you. I didn't. Or if I did hear about it, it probably got lost in all the other crappy stuff I've been dealing with lately.

Mitch McConnell gets it. And thank heavens the republicans held fast.
He [McConnell]scoffs at the notion that Republicans could have forged a meaningful compromise with Democrats: "They would have given us 5 percent of the substance and we would have given them the patina of bi-partisanship. It would have been foolish in the extreme. It would not have been a substantially better product, and the politics" would have been a disaster. In general, he says, "This is the kind of thing that happens when liberals are given too many seats."

In the tense hours Sunday leading up to the House vote on a historic healthcare bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took time to call the former president of Notre Dame, Father Theodore Hesburgh.
The House Democrats' leader was not seeking spiritual guidance. What she wanted was Hesburgh to help lock up the vote of Rep. Joe Donnelly, a Democrat from South Bend, Ind., who was wavering over the abortion issue.
Donnelly ultimately pressed the "yes" button late Sunday night.
