— Dave in Texas Roundtable today with Jake Tapper on the 'now imperative to the narrative' oil disaster.
You can move it up to 3:40 to hear Maher's claim, that Brazil "got off oil" in the last 30 years.
I've worked in Brazil, through the 90s, actually up till 2006. They were kinda living on oil Bill. They still are. Just like the rest of the nations with growing economies (or trying to grow again).
Got. Off. Oil.
Will challenges this goofy assertion around 6:20 by asking "are you wearing blue jeans and also what the hell are you blathering about regarding Brazil and oil again?"
Maher: "I uh, believe they did, I believe they had a program in the 70s to use sugar cane to produce ethanol...blah blah I don't know what the hell I'm talking about"
He couldn't say "fuck". Kinda messes up his delivery in a room with adults and also Katrina vanden Heuvel and Al Sharpton.
This is what passes for a panel of informed media experts on ABC.
I saw this earlier today but wiped it from my mind until Rosetta reminded me about it.

Okay, lets just humor Bill Mars here for a moment and lets just say they did get off oil. If thats the case, the last time I checked they found one of the biggest reserves in the world right off the coast in their waters not too long ago and the Chinese came a courtin'.
Does that mean they're gonna stop drilling for it and selling it too?
Yea, I didnt think so.

Second thought: if I could throw out my television a second time, this would be a reason. But I would have to buy one again to do that, and that would not make sense.
I was actually considering buying a television last night after contemplating that I was completely oblivious of a terror incident in my own city until reading Ace of Spades (you are my outside connection!).
Now I see this.
Yeah, I'll be putting off that purchase for a while.

Failed sports reporter turned MSNBC libtard pundit: Keith Olbermann
Failed comedians and actors turned HBO and Comedy Central libtard hacks: Bill Maher and John Stewart

Just a little crazier than you think, from his Wiki, which you know he wrote:
Maher is a board member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and has expressed his distaste for the pharmaceutical and health care industries in general, on the grounds that they make their money out of curing people who are made sick by consuming unhealthy food that society urges upon the public. He also maintains that mass consumption of high-fructose corn syrup is a contributor to the American obesity epidemic

Petrobras...Google it Bill. Then check the World factbook (Brazil the 7th largest oil consuming nation). 12th largest oil producer, and about to increase that due to the recent enormous oil field discoveries off the Brazilian coast...dangerous, deep water off-shore fields.
Brazil is, however, the second largest producer of ethanal...so Bill has a point. Oh wait...they are second to...the evil United States.
What Bill was trying to refer to is that Brazil has a 30 year old ethanol fuel program that lefties consider a success in that college coffee house liberal, know-it-all because it sounds good and evokes nice feelings sort of way, which is as far as Bill ever understands anything. This means that they have, over the last 30 years, mandated that all light vehicles must be flex-fuel...these days with between 20-25% sugar-cane ethanol/the rest gasoline. Why did they do this? Because they have a frickin' ton of land and a history of sugar cane farming from the 1500's, so it's what they do and do well. It also results in nationalistic forced mandates and all that entails, but Bill doesn't care about that. He also apparently doesn't care about the resultant deforestation of that Amazony-rain forest thingy over there, or use of agricultural land to produce sugar cane for fuel instead of food (top environmentalists have called biofuels a "crime against humanity" for their causation of a rise in food costs), or the massive ammount of water and fertilizer and pesticides and field-burns used to grow this sugar-cane. Sugar-cane ethanol is a far more efficient ethanol than our corn-based ethanol, and therefore cheaper to produce. However, the flex-fuel vehicles there get lower mileage/gallon due to the decrease in energy contained in each gallon of fuel. Their gas has to be 25% cheaper than ours to reach the break even point. As with most nationalistic mandates, subsidies for ethanol or heavy taxes against pure gasoline have been used to make the deal "worth it". And not every country is fortunate enough to be able to grow sugar cane...4 of our states can (Florida, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Texas). Finally, the poor of Brazil often work as cane-cutters on the massive plantations, and this line of work is replete with hazardous working conditions and reports of slavery and deaths due to overwork.
The man looks like a practice cadaver at a 3rd rate undertaker school.

Of course Maher is a complete fool. Put him in a room with even semi-lucid people and his ignorance shines.
But, just for argument's sake, let's say that Brazil (as dysfunctional a place as I have ever visited, btw) HAD gotten off of oil, and replaced it with sugar-cane based ethanol.
Anyone want to do the math as to how much RAIN FOREST would have to be slashed and burned to grow THAT MUCH sugar cane? Is this Maher's idea of "green?" Defoliating an entire rain forest to grow sugar cane?
As I said, he really is a complete fool. The Fool, fully realized.
